Announcement #1: Matt Rempe
New York Rangers President and General Manager Chris Drury announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Matt Rempe on a two-year contract extension.
Rempe, 22, led the team in hits per 60 minutes (19.64) and his 19.64 hits per 60 were the sixth-most in the NHL among players who skated in at least 40 games. In addition, he established career-highs in goals (3), assists (5) and points (8) this season, and finished with a plus-seven rating in 42 games.
Terms are believed to be $975,000 per season.

They need to clarify K Miller situation before moving Jones ..not much LH D depth
Think Miller is going West either Preds or Utah
those who watched the playoffs know that jones has no business being there
Seravalli: Mentioned in today’s news that new CBA will have more stringent contracts for players. Here’s one:
Signing bonus money will now be limited to 60% ceiling.
Example: If AAV on deal is $10m, max SB in any one year is $6m. It used to be everything minus league minimum salary was eligible for SB. Players can still get more in SB now, but anything beyond 60% will be subject to buyout calculation.

Why oh why couldn’t this have been in place before the most recent Pizzaboy contracts?
Neither does the DJ
Florida Panthers have acquired goalie Daniil Tarasov from the Columbus Blue Jackets
Did he belong in 21/22?
or chytil
btw i could care less about mika
Chytil is in Vancouver
yes he’s vancouvers problem now
The DJ knows playoffs are for men
Beezle,
That was not directed at you. Apologies if you felt that way. I’ve seen the jones stuff in many places. Makes zero sense. If Jones, or Brodzinski for that matter, are regulars in the lineup, might as well start planning for next years lottery.
Beezle I just about agree with you on most things but not Jones. He was never given the complete opportunity
An opportunity to do what exactly. What does he bring to the table?
Mika has a wonderful singing voice! Very small notes however. Wink wink nod nod!
Jones needs to play in Virginia. The Green, Green Grass of Home. He’s Tom Jones’s son. It’s Not Unusual.
What’s New, Pussycat?
Any particular reason Jones, of all the disgruntled group that whined about its lineup placement, should be overlooked by Drury’s locker room adjustments to remain part of the team? I thinks it’s only a matter of time.
Hilarious!!!! Jones, another small, soft defensemen, not going to get much, if anything at all. Wake me up when k miller is gone. If he is still on team when the regular season starts I’m done.
Eyyyy who’s ready to give Gavrikov a max deal of 7 years x 8mil AAV to an almost 30 year old? Let’s have another Trouba situation…just, you know.. minus the toughness! Woohoo!
The Rangers have no business doling out untenable contracts this off season. It always blows up in their faces.
Rich,
Just embrace the suck.
This roster management screams of 1998-2004: Can’t draft for sh-t, try to solve all problems in free agency, but without grabbing up the right free agents.
7x8M for another big but low-hitting dman? Where do I sign up?
I will say it again until I’m even bluer in the face. Drury is clueless! And Mika’s little satchel is empty.
If Rangers lose Cuylle to Isles on an offer sheet, I will lose it. It will be terrible to lose him, but absolutely unacceptable to lose him to Isles. Isles future is already looking much better than the Rangers, so losing Cuylle to them would be devastating.
Can’t we wait a week and see what he does before whining?
How does the islanders future look better? Because of an 18 year old defensemen, who missed 2/3 of the season injured? They are still old and slow. Probably trading their best player.
offer sheets can be matched
Carey – IMO Isles have a brighter future as they have three top prospects coming in Eiserman, Ritchie and probably Schaefer with the 1OA pick. Rangers have Perrault and not much else to speak of. Isles also have some moveable pieces, unlike the Rangers who have too many players with NMC/NTC contracts. Isles also have a top goalie who doesn’t cost 11 million per season. Last but certainly not least, they don’t have Drury running the show, so that alone puts them way ahead of the Rangers.
Even rookie GMs 2 weeks on the job are smarter than Drury ..LOL
Np reason to watch tonight unless you want to know who the Pens pick at #12. The Rangers prospects camp squad should be pretty thin too. It is going to be a dreary Summer for Ranger fans.
Can somebody please explain to me how our completely inept jackass of a GM hasn’t done a damn thing over the past week to improve our team via trade? And how the f-ck has Cuylle not been locked up yet? This franchise matches our GM’s personality- dead.
cullye could be waiting for an offer sheet which we could match
Hello. I’ve been awaiting ‘moderation’ since 4 PM yesterday.
What did you call Kandre Coos?
Coos consider yourself moderated.
Thinki Drury will wait and see if this center McQueen is available somewhere in top 10
Before trying to move Kandre
BobbyO,
I think you’re overthinking it.
He hasn’t moved K’AhhGodAnotherTurnover because his return value is what it should be- a 2nd or 3rd rounder and an AHL “project.”
If someone offer sheets him it’s a 1st and a 3rd so I would guess he could get a number 1 in a trade may have to sweeten it to get a higher pick
If he gets a. Offer sheet it’s a first and a third so
I think he could get a 1st in a trade
Offer Sheet AAV Compensation Due
Under $1,544,424 None
$1,544,424 to $2,340,037 3rd Round Pick
$2,340,038 to $4,680,076 2nd Round Pick
$4,680,077 to $7,020,113 1st and 2nd Round Picks
$7,020,114 to $9,360,153 1st, 2nd and 3rd Round Picks
$9,360,154 to $11,700,192 Two 1sts, One 2nd, One 3rd Round Pick
Over $11,700,193 Four 1st Round Picks
By that logic, Drury could have kept the #12 pick and tried to move up much more cheaply and if it came to pass, move KAM for a pick next season, again, easier.
What do jed ortmeyer, tanner glass, and Marc Staal do in their roles? What players have they been developing?
Staying in Toronto
4 years $4.38 aav for Tavares
$4,680,077 to $7,020,113 1st and 2nd Round Picks
puck pedia is saying its a 1 and 3
Kodak developing.
Nice that Gorton can now dress Suzuki and Dobson in Montreal after passing over both of them to draft Lisa and Kravtsov in New York
“IMO Isles have a brighter future as they have three top prospects coming in…”
Ah yes, I’m hearing The Fixx – Built For The Future.
montreal just gave isles huge gift. 2 first rd picks for dobson which also clears a lot of cap room for isles. makes me want to throw up
Question. Does Drury know the draft is tonight?
As I said yesterday, Isles future looking brighter. I hate that team!!! I expect them to have a second pick in top 5-7. All this while Drury is asleep at the wheel and will be lucky to get a second or third rounder for KAM. Drury is the king of selling low.
I never thought I would miss the 🦔
Yet “JD and the Nut Shots” gave this jackass an extension. I honestly didn’t think it was possible for this franchise to zap more hope than it had last season along with the dark years of 98-04, but alas… captain little league has done it again. I’m fed up with this garbage franchise. We’ll never be or beat the FL Panthers because those at the top have no f-cking clue how to run a hockey team. They sure do know how to run it into the ground, however.
If he kept the 12 to move up he wouldn’t have a 1st next season,…and if you don’t think Kandre is worth a first now …why next year ?
Someone get Craig a beer …or 6
Alex, just copied from your earlier link. I don’t think offersheets are coming for KAM or Cuylle
Twitterverse: Hearing CBJ trading for Charlie Coyle from Colorado
In this corner, BitterRangerFan. Foaming at the mouth..or is that really expensive cheap beer?
In the opposite corner, Drury’sAgent. Note the villainous use of hot oil and pizza dough!
Oh.. Forgot to mention. Buttman is also pushing 84 game season again w/ 2 less pre-season so that they can add 2 divisional games.
Again, absolutely deaf when it comes to knowning what fans do/don’t want. Nobody wants a longer regular season. Most are ambivalent, at best, about the interconference games. To me the better idea is to use the same approach as the NFL and play only one division from the other conf each season using the balance for games within a team’s own division.
Cap is going up so he wants a reward
Just for officialdom:
Noah Dobson is being traded to Montreal and signing an 8x$9.5M extension with the Canadiens
beezle
on the off chance we try to do an offer sheet (example knies) it would matter whether it’s 1st and 3rd or 1st and 2nd since currently we don’t have a 2nd next year
i’d rather we keep schedule virtually the same meaning all teams come in. many of the western teams i can get for cheaper prices than divisional games. and i generally have no interest in games vs isles or devs never mind they’re priced higher. then again after my record of 3-10 last year and the kreider trade my interest is quite diminished. so how many i go to will be questionable.
i guess my favorites of those on team now are the goalies, schneider, trocheck, maybe jt miller and laffy. and cullye.
Amazing how bad that Lisa pick was. Seven All Stars from the first round, three after #7. But hey, we got Vaakanainen! (#18)
Alex – I meant I don’t think any of the Ranger roster will get offer sheets. As to what Drury does 🤷♂️
Drury is doing jack sh-t. He got a new coach, and he jettisoned Kreider. We’re still stuck with the rest of the lazy, all-in-my-feelings overpaid giant va*inas. They’re essentially running it back, but with a new coaching staff. Yeah, that’ll do it, Drury. Great job, Captain Schmuck. And yes, someone get me a beer or 6.
more garbage 2nd or 3rd rd picks by rangers
I have lost all hope for the future of this carnival organization.
st pete
and this one will last a lifetime
We’ve become the NY Jets version of the NFL. One dumb decision after another year-after-year.
What would be the equivalent to the butt-fumble?
NHL*
Alex…..that lifetime is getting really long.
rich
i’ve seen the only ranger cup i’ll ever see
rich
i just hope i won’t see any more isles cups. that’s what i fear and that would force me to block some isles people and stop following hockey.
Relax! Drury’s got this- Get ready for Gavrikov- 8×9.5! Let’s do this.
I’m just here for the Black Hawks.
How does Florida afford all these contracts!!!
Bennett 8x8m he’ll be 37 the final year
“And the crowd with a ‘Let’s Go Rangers’ chant.”
Too much Bettman for me so far…
I remember Bill Chadwick having too many Schaefers up in the booth.
With all these high draft picks I think it’s time for Chicago to start rising up from the bottom of the NHL.
Watching the interview. This islander number 1 pick is a very nice kid.
Tough hand dealt losing his mom to cancer.
Very composed for 17yo
Drury masterclass, sorry… masterass.
So now the flyers have our pick. It will be interesting to see who they pick with the rangers #12. Not that it really matters, Rangers probably would have selected Hugh Jessiman’s kid brother.
NYR 1st traded for a third time to Philthy
Tainted pick, cursed by the Rangers
Is Gritty making the selection?
Carter Bear should have gone to the Bruins.
This was the year to give up the pick
This draft is weird. A lot of these top picks have red flags (back injury or partial Achilles tear)
The “big board” numbers they admitted anything g after the top 10 is a total crap shoot in this draft and the teams will draft what they feel is a need.
Rather than years past when I’ve heard “best pick available”. No one here really knows or has a strong opinion of what that is.
Lots of news, mostly CBA
-Pat Brisson, agent for Sidney Crosby, told me just now in text message that speculation about Crosby leaving Penguins are “baseless rumors.”
-new CBA provision: training camps shortened from 21 to 13 days (18 for rookies). With one day off during the first week. Again, starting in 26-27 season.
-Ducks are bringing newly selected Roger McQueen to Disneyland tonight in a helicopter. Like, right now.
-on salary retention in trades, a second retention on the same contract can only happen 75 regular season days later. So it essentially nixes double retention with a third team involved as part of same overall deal.
-Teams will only receive LTIR amount equal to prior season’s Average League Salary (e.g. this year was something like ~$3.8m), unless player is definitely out for entirety of playoffs. Playoff salary cap will consist of 20 players in lineup. Rosters can be shuffled game to game
-Neck guards will be mandatory for all new players entering in 2026-27 and beyond. Players with one game played prior to 2026-27 will be grandfathered in and not mandatory.
-minimum salary will steadily increase from $775,000 this season to $1 million in 2029-30 season.
– new draftee signing rules: Drafted at age 18, teams will hold rights to that player until the fourth June 1 after Draft. Drafted age 19, teams will hold rights until third June 1 after Draft. If in NCAA at expiration, rights extended until 30 days after notifying NHL they are no longer playing in college
Now back to you, Jane!
The NHL tried too hard to put on a big-production spectacle. The whole thing feels pretty cringy. The simplest approach is often the best one.
JBytes Uncle Larry’s comment was: A reminder that the NHL actually voted to do this to itself.
The Bennett contract is hefty but keep in mind one thing: it is all salary. I just ran the buyout calculator on it – if they want, they can buy out the last three seasons and carry dead cap of 2.7m the next six – probably not such a horrible thing in light of expectations of where the cap will be by then. Had Dreary done the deal, it would have been $7M bonus, $1M salary and no buyout possible
Never heard one of our picks say anything even remotely close to this:
Best adjective to describe our beloved blueskirts: stale.
Its official – I’m not buying Schaefer beer anymore, even when I’m having more than one.
That’s enough to earn Shaefer a beatdown in the first Ranger-Isles exhibition game.
Islanders crushed the draft first round. Should we revisit the brightness of the respective futures?
The best part of not having 1st rounder is not watching this
Isles 3 picks
Pens 3 picks
Flyers 2 picks
Rangers? Not even a participation trophy.
Nestrasil for the Hawks.
Sounds like a sorely needed medication… good for what ails them.
Totally agree jbytes
Cringy is the word I said to my kid when she started watching halfway through
Every Single response predictably the same when the player “meets” the brass
Unbelievable Incredible Thank You
Best thing was when a couple players and parents were in or near tears. Can’t fake those. Real emotion during the biggest moments of their lives
Super cringe was when bucc asked Schaefer what he misses most about his mom. Caught him off guard and he had to re ask. But he doubled down and carried on with class.
ESPN doing their thing with 4 of the 6 personalities being ladies which even had my daughter asking what’s the deal with that.
She goes “maybe I can do that gig”. I said yeh, when they ask what’s credentials you have you can say you watched a lot of hockey with your dad. 😂
beezle
they’re also lowering years a guy can sign for. from 8 (7 if to another team); to 7 (6 if another team)
this to encourage guys to stay with team that drafted them
Isles and Pens with three firsts and Rangers 0. Not good for the future. They can’t both whiff like the Bruins did a few years ago.
So Dreary it seems didn’t even try to trade his way into the 1st round. It really seems like this 🤡has thrown in the White towel for the immediate future. I see dark times ahead. It makes me wonder what the Miller trade was about. That trade was a year too late. It may have been consequential at the 2024 deadline. The only consequence of doing it last season was losing the 1st round pick. Business as usual at MSG. To quote the great St Pete….”I’m broken.”
We can’t fault Matthew Schaefer for being envious so early. Without the Rangers, his little franchise would have the same relevance as NYCFC.
Next season is not looking pretty.
“ESPN doing their thing with 4 of the 6 personalities being ladies…”
I’m surprised Sportsnet didn’t pull a similar stunt. I believe they had two doing interviews, not “analysis”. They do have their token lady analyst [Jennifer something] on Hockey Night, however.
I can’t wait until next seasons first round draft. I can see it now, Rangers will be in 8th-10th place near the deadline, so Drury will go all in at the deadline and trade the 2026 first round pick for a 35 year old, “has been”, on an expiring contract. They will proceed to choke the rest of the season away and their trade partner will reap a top 5 pick in a deep draft.
Alex 18:25 post – Couldn’t agree more.
Tonights draft really hurt. Watching the Islanders land three top players while Knowing the Rangers wasted numerous first round picks over the last 7-8 years by drafting garbage is truly painful.. That is why the Rangers future will be filled with failure.
It’s hopeless!
Mister Sandman, bring me a dream.
Gotta give the Islanders credit. They’ve stayed relevant for an extended time after the Covid bubble playoffs, and now have an incredibly bright future ahead without really tanking or bottom feeding.
Whoever had first round picks or my lord multiple picks is great and smart and dark days are ahead for Rangers…instead of worrying about the Isles worry about the Habs ….they just got a top pairing DMan and their powerplay is now lethal
I don’t like the words ‘incredible’ or ‘unbelievable.’ Sue me.
Some time this afternoon they finally make a pick. I think they literally phone it in.
The Islanders had an empty cubard. Before last night they had maybe two decent prospects. They are a long, long way from building anything of substance. Last night was a start. I liked the two Dmen. The forward is incredibly overrated.
Philly, and the Bs did well. Martone was a great pick, and when they go back and look at this draft in 5 years, Hagens is going to be the best player in it.
Hmmm isn’t the Hedgehog VP Hockey Ops in Montreal?
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/canadiens-active-but-wont-do-anything-thats-stupid-in-limited-trade-market/
Looking at the 1st round, other than Hagens, seems like they had to run out of Canadians for the US to get a shot
Olga I think there is a long list of warnings and disclaimers with that player along the lines of ‘do not take with NTC, see your doctor immediately if paid large signing bonuses…’
ORF – assuming they don’t trade it away, #43 and later #70 and 89. More after that in the triple digits.
From the “You get what you wish for” department
If that Bennett contract is mostly bonus does the make repeat Cup winner Zito an idiot now? 😁
I wonder if Dreary will start doing things just for the sake of doing things. Does this guy have a plan? Right now the Ranger organization looks like a puzzle that has scattered pieces that will never fit.
Official: Calgary Kevin Bahl to a six-year contract worth an AAV of $5.35 million!
Yikes – did they change the Bennett contract in puckpedia overnight? Originally it was all salary but now only $1M? I swear I was not drinking last night!
What’s cap hit?
I was drinking last night.
I take comfort that Drury hasn’t already made moves just to make them.
Malcolm Spence LW #43 pick
In case you thought left wings just grow on trees, we got another
And another trade:
Trade call is done.
John Gibson to Detroit for Petr Mrazek plus 2nd Rd pick in ’26 and a 4th Rd pick in ’27.
No salary retention.
Centers being drafted. I guess the Rangers have no need of them. Dumbest organization on earth. 🤡Drury.
Ugh. 6ft 156lb defenseman artem gonchar nephew of sergei
Undersized transitional defenseman. PP and passing.
Low physicality
Wtf 🤬?
The Russian version of Nils Lundqvist?
Malcom Spence. Teamates at Erie with isles Schaefer
Rangers with gonchar immediately followed by devils and peg each taking a center
Do we never ever want to draft a center?
At 156 pounds gonchar is the lightest player taken in the first three rounds by 15 lbs at least.
maybe the lightest player that will be drafted this year
Sure, throw him back on defense
I’m sure the lachuck brothers will be very intimidated in front of the net
Schmidt at stars 5ft 8 Cole Caufield light RW has offensive rating of 95 iq of 90 and physicality of 60
Gonchar physicality rating is 50
Other ratings about 70
Did Drury owe sergei a free pizza and decided this was close enough!
Defensman physicality of 50!!!!!
Rangers are incredibly unbelievable at drafting
nice hair
Barnhill is a big guy
KAM, LaCoast, and 2026’s #1 for Tom Brady Kookchuck
This one? Even if you added 25 lbs he’d still be undersized
Gonchar is not pretty
Apparently Drury was smitten with Les Habs Hutson – 5’9 162lbs 6G 60A in 82 games.
Hutson had 40 hits! Lol. But at least he had 123 blocks.
No photo yet. #111
Mikkel Eriksen, Örebro HK J20
Mikkel Eriksen may not be as flashy as some other European forwards, but he plays the type of responsible, hard-working game that coaches love. He plays with pace and is relentless on the forecheck. He’s always active and makes simple but effective decisions in the offensive zone.
Eriksen posted 43 points in 40 games this season for Örebro’s J20 squad, showing he can produce while playing a structured game. His motor is one of his best assets. He’s not going to carry a line offensively, but he’s a great complementary piece with the potential to fit on a third line down the road.
E3 – ‘incredibly unbelievable…’ LOL.
Elsewhere –
Joel Hofer won’t be subject to offer sheets after signing a two-year contract extension worth $6.8 million ($3.4 million AAV).
Eriksen solid pick it seems.
Tonight or tomorrow there will be a new post to summarize all the picks in one place. And a bucket for the many tears sure to fall 🤣
Size of barn hill is what we need. Only pick I hate so far is gonchar
Scouts say Spence can be a factor when he’s on his game. Good.
They imply he floats and disappears the rest of the time. Not Good.
Think the Barnhill pick is the best of the lot
‘Many a tear has to fall..
But it’s all…
In the Game…’
Mikkel Eriksen from Norway. The 5’11, 187 lb center
Very flattering photo!
Gosh. Klippenstein would’ve been a wayyyy better pick than gonchar!!!! Dang nabbit
Mikkel Eriksen (C, L, 5’11”, 187, Farjestad BK J20, 09/13/2007)
Another write-up. He’s young so could still get to 6’0 200/5
https://neutralzone.com/nhl-scouting-reports/j20-nationell-mikkel-eriksen/
Talk of a Marner sign and trade w/ Vegas involving Nic Roy
Is Drury’s agent filling in making pizzas today?
Eriksen sounds like a sam Bennett type player
That would be a nice win for the franchise. Will see in 5 to 7 years
I think I saw Barnhill in an Andrew Wyeth painting.
I saw that Spence is playing at Michigan next year. New Junior rules let CHL guys do that now.
Barnhill is in the USHL so he is probably trying to get to the NCAA. He could be 6 years away from an NHL camp. His draft stock may have gone up a bit. One report ranked him as a late round pick, but most of the services listed him about where he got drafted +/- a few picks.
Gonchar??
Rangers had good luck with one small guy from Norway. Maybe Eriksen works out.
Per the espn central scouting guy
Zeb Lindgren projected to be picked around 74th
6’1” 198 defensive defensment 69th % physicality
Getting at 139 is good value
Barnhill slated to go to Northeastern. He’s a few years away. Maybe he learns to use his size by then.
Zeb not related to Ryan or Charlie.
Spence fell a bit. He had been projected as late 1st round.
I fear we will be stuck with Shuffleboard Miller!
KAM may bring back more value at deadline? Maybe get him under a reasonable bridge contract first ?
See if he can raise his value first half of season or maybe proves that he’s a keeper? Just spit balling
What the rangers really need to do is pass more
🥁 ba dum dum
Passmore 82nd in physicality. ESPN guys say he’s an old school bruiser. Big boy. I like the pick
Funny how the highlights of defensman all show their random goals even though that’s not their game. I want to see some hits and some takeaways!
We need Carey to breakdown our picks in a guest post!
Farhammer 6’1” two way defensman with great edges. Can lay the body and has decent point production
We want the cup we want the cup 🤣
Passmore guaranteed power play shifts
Tank for Gavin McKenna!
Let’s bring on Hugh Jessiman. I think he finally developed!
Zeb is dead baby, zeb is dead
Hmm… I wonder what Boneheads were saying about K’Andre Miller on his draft day. 💭
JBytes – ask and you’ll be rewarded!
Here is just one gem (and I’m not trying to pick on him but it is funny considering Hughes has done pretty well for himself)
So here are the relevant posts, including the horror of Kravtsov
I think the most important thing to do is use my still live draft comparitor to see how bad our 2018 was compared to everyone else, especially the Icelanders!
https://beezle-v2.github.io/#
What a joke; the entire NHL Draft was the Gary Bettman variety show. Very interesting Gertude, Conner Mac David spent sometime with the Otters. Isles Schaefer’s teammates were Carry Terrence & Spence. Terrence was captain & Spence asst. Captain. Based on our past draft screwups I really think we did quite well.
Noah Dobson grew 1″ and 23lbs since his draft…I guess that means our little Russian hobbit might make 170 one day
Other than Dobson NYI had nothing. Other than KAM, NYR had nothing. NYI did pretty well in that trade and Dobson certainly got himself a home run. KAM? Let’s see!
He won’t trade Kandre now unless he locks up Gavrikov
Brooks saying that it looks like Cuylle will be offer-sheeted. I reaaaaally want to deliver a punch to Drury’s throat should that materialize. This guy is f-cking clueless.
I’m not liking the idea of Gavrikov. Let someone else give an 8yr overpay to a 30yr old defender. He had *50* hits in 82 games the past season. Wouldn’t want to damage any of those 220lbs of his!
There is a new post scheduled with the draft results for 12:01 AM, 9:01 PM E3/Norm time.
50 US players drafted but only 6 from US high schools…?
Haha… thanks, Beezle! I needed the laugh. Seeing all the Miller endorsements, I now understand why some old Boneheads went into exile.
Someone did hit the nail on the head, though.
Rangers Report 2.0
Mon 25 Jun 2018 12:25
Here’s my hot take: Miller is going to be a bust as a defenseman.
