It’s Go Time!

The Rangers lost in the shootout to the Jets yesterday afternoon, 3-2. The two Ranger goals were scored by Kartye (6), assisted by JT Miller (26) at 00:41 of the second period and later, at 14:03, Zibanejad (30) on the PP, Fox (32) and Miller (27) with assists. Garand looked pretty good in his first NHL start through regulation and the OT, stopping 35 of 37 SOG. Needs a little work on the shootout but definitely would like to get him a few more games before the season is done.

The Rangers play Ottawa tonight at 19:00 EDT at MSG, telecast by MSG, NHLN, Prime and RDS.

Today the NYR hope to entertain their fans with a Sunday matinee against the visiting Winnipeg Jets. The teams have near idential last ten’s of 5-3-2 WPG and 5-4-1 NYR. Overall, Winnipeg has managed to avoid four more losses than the Rangers by grabbing Bettman points. And yet, Winnipeg is still in the hunt for WC2 in the Western conference, trailing Nashville by five points with 13 to go.

Quick is a little banged up so the Rangers called up..finally… Garand (0-0-0, NaN, NaN) from Hartford and he will get his first NHL start today against Comrie (11-9-1, 2.96 GAA, 0.895 SV%). Beyond that, some line shuffling by Sullivan (see below) with Brodzinski and Mackey staying in.

The refs today are Carter Sandlak (241 GP) and Kelly Sutherland (1667 GP).

On this date in history: In 2014, Henrik Lundqvist recorded his 50th career shutout to pass Giacomin for most in NYR history.

    Well GGMM was busy:

Sullivan on how Tye Kartye has fit in:

“I think Tye’s played great for us. He’s a great kid, first and foremost. He brings great energy to the rink. He loves hockey. He loves to be on the ice. He loves to practice. He’s enthusiastic, and I think that energy is contagious. He can really skate. The one thing that jumps out to me is his puck pursuit game, the offensive zone, just hunting pucks and hunting down defensemen and taking their time and space away. I think he creates opportunity for him and his linemates when he does it. And he’s a pretty conscientious guy defensively. He has a good stick. He’s willing to block shots…I think he’s been a welcomed addition to our lineup.”

Sullivan on Drew Fortescue: “I would envision him playing some games here moving forward and we’re excited to work with him.”

  77. St Pete Avatar

Miller’s presence on the team will do to Perraults progress what Panarins did to Lafreniere. Perrault needs top PP minutes. As long as our fabulous captain is around that will not happen. Although if Vermont is traded over the summer it may be a moot point. Observation, Perrault looks out of gas he needs to get stronger for 26/27.

Does it really make sense for Fortesque to play this season? Why burn a year of his eligibility? Why destroy his confidence and ruin his development right away, can’t they wait until next season to do that?

Agree with you guys our goalie looked pretty good. Too bad on shoot outs though. He must have felt like crap after those two goals. As much as I would like to see Miller sit his playing might help us lose games and get a better draft choice. Perrault is going to have to be patient. His chance on PP will come when Miller gets hurt year after year. Cannot see what our GM see’s in him that all of us don’t. Oh well. Play on.

The goalie situation in the organization is a bit of a mess. Martin played both games over the weekend and a save % of 77%. They didn’t use Tung in either game.
Minnesota fired its hockey coach. Maybe Potulny will get that job and they can try someone else in Hartford. Morrow had a good offensive weekend. 1G-3A and was only -1 in two 6-3 losses. So far cap space is all they have gotten out of the KAM trade.

Minx – that would be overall. In purely NYR history, he is currently #7 at 656. Ratelle is #3 at 817 seems possible (162 to break). #2 Leetch at 981 not so much. Fox recently moved into #19 with 406. Also, for comparison, Messier had 691 pts in 698 games over his 10 years (250 G, 441 A)

    Add: JT Miller 8 seasons, 429 games: 99 G, 149 A 248 total at #63 is not much at all ahead of LaCoast 450 GP 112 G 128 A 240 total for #67. Note that Trocheck in 301G over 4 seasons is tied with JT, 88 G 160 A.

Vince is useful for posting praccy and lines a little quicker than GGMM usually does. Caught this one just now:

Sullivan acknowledged that “a big part” of his reasoning for continuing to scratch Iorio is that Borgen and Schneider haven’t been comfortable shifting to the left side. That’s created a blockade on the right that’s made it difficult to fit Iorio in.

“For guys that are not accustomed to it, sometimes it can be a struggle to adjust to that offside. Our observation has been that it hasn’t put those guys in the best position (to succeed). So that does lend to (Iorio being out), with respect to lineup decisions and things of that nature.”

    #NYR Quote Vince Z. Mercogliano @vzmercogliano 39m
Looks like Brodzinski and Iorio will be the scratches tonight, so Pärssinen is likely slotting back in after being scratched the last five games. #NYR
