The Rangers have a double problem. As in getting doubled up. Second game in a row they have given up twice as many goals as they have scored, this time against Columbus on the road. In fact, this was a pure double as the scoring line was NYR 1 CBJ 2 for each of the three periods. Also continuing is the NYR fascination with the numeral 6 as in six of their last ten games have seen the NYR score six (3x) and their opponent six (3x). And four of those scores? You got it, 6-3. Maybe play 063 boxed on Sunday?
The most painful part of the loss last night for the viewing fan was…the timing of the scoring, which kept it to a one goal game for almost the entire first two periods and through 06:12 of the third. Even so, there really was nothing on the ice that made one think the Rangers were going to win this game other than perhaps sheer puck luck.
NYR scoring was by Trocheck (15), an unassisted shorty at 05:41 of the first. Zibanejad (29) continued his hot streak, scoring at 04:44 of the second, assisted by Lafreniere (27) and Perreault (13). Their final score came on the PP, Lafreniere (20) with Fox (31) and Zibanejad (37) credited with the assists. Once again the Rangers had a lack of shots on goal in two periods, just eight in the first and only five in the third. A reported 19 giveaways did not help the effort either.
Game summary below:
