Rangers 6, Turboprops 3

In other news, the Rangers signed their 2021 4th round pick, Brody Lamb, to an ELC. More info about his Gopher career here

The NYR continue their fascination with the number six, again beating their opponent with six goals to, in this case, three by Winnipeg. And speaking of three, this is the first three game win streak for the team since late November (also the longest of the season). Lafreniere continues to be hot by putting himself in the right place at the right time to make plays on the puck and score goals. Will it continue against better competition? 🤷‍♂️ Don’t expect the coach to break up that top line of Perreault/Zibanejad/Lafreniere anytime soon.

Fox (5), assisted by Zibanejad (35), started the scoring at 01:08 of the first after Winnipeg took a penalty at 00:59. And that was it for the first period which saw a total of three shots for the NYR and six for WPG. Zzzz.

The second period was a bit more entertaining. Rosen (4) tied the game at 02:21, putting a wrist shot from in front between Borgen and Vaakanainen who may have been screening Shesterkin. Lafreniere (19) would put the Rangers back on top with a tip-in of a Borgen (7) shot at 07:36, Perreault (10) with the secondary. Finally, Connor (29) tied it again for Winnipeg with a nasty wrist shot at 17:49. 2-2 after two.

In an unfathomable change, the Rangers scored another very early goal, this time by recent pickup Kartye (5) at 01:15 of the third, a tip of a Robertson (9) shot. Schneider (12) credited with the secondary. Fighting for the playoffs, WPG came right back with a goal by Vilardi (25) at 04:19, open for a backhander right in front of Shesterkin (while Cuylle watched). Tied at three, this is the point NYR teams earlier in the season would have found a way to fold.

Instead, three unanswered goals. Perreault (7) at 06:57, another tip-in, this time of a Schneider (13) shot with Lafreniere (25) getting the secondary assist. Recently off a very long IR sting, Edstrom (3) put a slapper from the high slot past Hellebuyck at 11:08 to add to the lead – Trocheck (32) and Sheary (9) with the assists. And last but not least, Laba (8) with the ENG at 19:09, a reward for some hard work, assisted by Kartye (9) and Trocheck (33). Final score NYR 6 WPG 3.

Game summary below:

The Rangers continue this short road trip with a game against the Wild in Minnesota on Saturday 14 March. Note the unusual 18:00 EDT start, telecast by MSG, FSDNNO and FSDNWIX.

NYR have gone from sleep is the word to tip-in is the word. Very clear change in play style since the stale bread was given away.

Also of note – another game where Schneider led TOI at 22:25 followed by partner Robertson 21:22. Fox/Gavrikov 21:11/19:32. Not sure how much of this is better confidence in the 4/29 pair vs just trying to keep Fox around 20 minutes.

This level of play is not NHL playoffs, sorry to be wet blanket. Look at the Bolts-Sabres game if you want to second season intensity. Doesn’t mean the goals don’t count and the wins feel good.

I told you they would win.

It’s easy to point out the difference in play and point fingers towards the Sidewinder who is no longer on the team.

I am guessing top teams will just focus on shutting done 13 93 94.

Coincidence or fact. Without Miller and Panarian in the lineup, they are winning.
Watching this team the last week is entertaining and I will take it for whatever reason. Like I said earlier it is nice to see smiles on their faces when they are winning.

At least all the teams competing in the tankathon won last night. They are slipping into the top 10 picks rather than top 5. It will make a big difference.

Let’s see what they look like against the top tier teams.

As we have learned the hard lessons of the unimportance of draft position. The irony of Laffy’s emergence leading this is next level.

The fact is their top tier goalie and Dman returned from injury and Foxy has PP on fire

Check me on this but… Shesterkin 40 of 62 games and Fox 38. Did the team miss the playoffs because they were out a few weeks (again, just like the year before and the one before that and…)

They are playing like a team finally

Hope quick gets a few more wins as well this season. That shutout he had was exciting and well deserved.

With the losing any of us were souring on Fox and his footspeed and body language.

But there is no denying how important and talented he is.

If we can finish this season on a positive note and head into offseason with some confidence, that may be more important than lottery balls.

not many games left against top teams. Wild tonight and then no other playoff teams during March. bubble teams like the BJs and Kings and hated (?) rival-for-last-in-the-East NJ will be their toughest tests until they face Habs Sabres Stars and Lightning all in august.

    Gudas is such a POS

    Can’t believe he’s a captain.

Always hated him. He is so dirty yet rarely answers for it.

Trouba hits clean but has to answer way more often ?

Sullivan got the tanking message. JT back in PP 1 in place of Perreault.

  27. U St Pete Eli Avatar

I hate this team. Sullivan is an azz hat. Taken Perreault off PP 1 is sucking up to vets and pissing on Perreaults confidence and recent positive growth. Somebody tell me I’m wrong?

Shameful decision. It’s obvious why they do such a poor job developing the young players. Retread coaches make retread decisions.

The Capt, a vet and one of the best players on team returns from injury and the coach puts him back where he was playing. No problem with that.

Leafs tank by shelving their captain for the season. Rangers tank bely reactivatimg theirs.

I don’t think they have a choice in shelving him. Significant MCL sprain on MRI.

The choice was made for them.

Ultimately they will lose more games now and gudas indirectly punishes the rangers draft position 🫤

As the #4 seed draft team, likelihood of rising to #1 or #2 in the lottery is around the same as falling to #6.

Odds of rising to #1 or #2: ~19% combined (roughly 1 in 5)
Odds of falling to #6: ~20.8% (also roughly 1 in 5)

Mostly likely outcome 45% is fall to #5.

May the Schwartz be with us!

They are projecting Rangers to choose RHD several places… they seem to have more depth on right side than left though now and future. No mention of centers… Malhotra ?

  37. wwpd Avatar
    wwpd

I’ve mentioned Malhotra 😉 if they really go on a run they could fall to Roobroeck territory

  38. wwpd Avatar

Oh with the Stars pick they may already be in Roobroeck territory

Heard Drury read the team the riot act. He said he doesn’t need the pressure of a 1OA or 2OA pick, he already screwed two of those up. He wants to them much further back in the draft, where there is less expectations and pressure.

Manny Malhotra’s son. You got to be kidding me. You know your getting very old when the team you root for is thinking of drafting the son of a player who might have been good;(how many years ago?) and the team screwed up his development.
God I am getting to old for this sh**.
