In other news, the Rangers signed their 2021 4th round pick, Brody Lamb, to an ELC. More info about his Gopher career here
The NYR continue their fascination with the number six, again beating their opponent with six goals to, in this case, three by Winnipeg. And speaking of three, this is the first three game win streak for the team since late November (also the longest of the season). Lafreniere continues to be hot by putting himself in the right place at the right time to make plays on the puck and score goals. Will it continue against better competition? 🤷♂️ Don’t expect the coach to break up that top line of Perreault/Zibanejad/Lafreniere anytime soon.
Fox (5), assisted by Zibanejad (35), started the scoring at 01:08 of the first after Winnipeg took a penalty at 00:59. And that was it for the first period which saw a total of three shots for the NYR and six for WPG. Zzzz.
The second period was a bit more entertaining. Rosen (4) tied the game at 02:21, putting a wrist shot from in front between Borgen and Vaakanainen who may have been screening Shesterkin. Lafreniere (19) would put the Rangers back on top with a tip-in of a Borgen (7) shot at 07:36, Perreault (10) with the secondary. Finally, Connor (29) tied it again for Winnipeg with a nasty wrist shot at 17:49. 2-2 after two.
In an unfathomable change, the Rangers scored another very early goal, this time by recent pickup Kartye (5) at 01:15 of the third, a tip of a Robertson (9) shot. Schneider (12) credited with the secondary. Fighting for the playoffs, WPG came right back with a goal by Vilardi (25) at 04:19, open for a backhander right in front of Shesterkin (while Cuylle watched). Tied at three, this is the point NYR teams earlier in the season would have found a way to fold.
Instead, three unanswered goals. Perreault (7) at 06:57, another tip-in, this time of a Schneider (13) shot with Lafreniere (25) getting the secondary assist. Recently off a very long IR sting, Edstrom (3) put a slapper from the high slot past Hellebuyck at 11:08 to add to the lead – Trocheck (32) and Sheary (9) with the assists. And last but not least, Laba (8) with the ENG at 19:09, a reward for some hard work, assisted by Kartye (9) and Trocheck (33). Final score NYR 6 WPG 3.
