The NYR have acquired a 3rd-round pick and a 6th-round pick (via CHI) from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Sam Carrick.
The Rangers won a home game in regulation last night at MSG, the first since November 24, 2025 (it just seems longer because of Thanksgiving break!).
As is to be expected, the Rangers spotted the other team a first two minutes goal, tonight at the very fresh 00:13 mark of the game to Maccelli (12). It took another six minutes but Cuylle (14) was able to tie it by tipping in a hard Schneider (10) shot from near the point. 1-1 after one.
Like the first, the second period would see a goal for each team, first by Toronto’s Cowan (8) at 05:27. Gavrikov (11), who never realized he could score goals before coming to NY, tied it again at 07:29 with a PPG, assisted by Raddysh (7) and Brodzinski (7). 2-2 after two.
And then the leaves all dropped off the tree giving the NYR forwards clear sight of the opposition goal. Lafreniere (14) tipped in a Zebanejad (30) from the high slot at 05:38. This was followed by youngster Chmelar (1) unassisted after picking up an errant Toronto pass at the NYR blue line and beating the Toronto defenders back to put a wrist shot past Woll. Zibanejad (25) would add to his bounce back season totals with a sweet one timer from just above the goal line below the dot, Lafreniere (22) and Fox (25) with assists. Finally, Cuylle (15) would get his second of the night with an ENG, Lafreniere (23) and Zibanejad (31) credited with assists. Final: 6-2 NYR.
Notes: Trocheck and Carrick were both bubble wrapped prior to the start of the game.
Game summary below:

The next game is Saturday, 7 March at 15:00 EST against the NJ Derbils in NJ. Telecast by ABC.

Good morning. The Rangers won…that’s unique.
Good luck to Sam..gamer !
That’s a good return for Carrick who will retired before the Rangers are good again. I thought the 3rd would be all they would get. I’m concerned that youthful enthusiasm and the return of Igor and Fox will move them out of the top ten in drafting order. They need to complete the tank to get into the top 5- preferably 3. They will screw up any pick that isn’t obvious.
Maybe they’ll get lucky!
wwpd
No they won’t.
So is Rempe the 4C next year?
Carlson to Anaheim I thought was an interesting one.
Stanley (and schenn) to Sabres for not a second round and meh 🫤 prospects was a steal
This seems to be a particularly slow Trade deadline. Wonder why?
Bobby Brink from PHI to MIN for David Jiricek
Alex Nedeljkovic is staying in San Jose 2x$3M
Friedman: NYR have indicated they are prepared to keep Vincent Trocheck if they don’t get what they feel they need. Told teams, they are not trading him just for the sake of making a trade.
Translation: they know Drury will hit the bid
(Only) not not
It is smart to not just give away Trocheck for reasons we’ve all said.
What can I say. Just when you think Drury has hit the rock bottom with his inept actions and destructive actions, you’ll be astonished again to see him break it through…
Kaplan: The Wild are trading for Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno, where he can play with his brother Marcus per sources.
This is Chicago doing their captain a solid to chase a Cup. No retention (Blackhawks don’t have retention spots left)
Wild bringing in forwards does that mean Yurov coming to NY?
New York has the devil, filth, and flames nect 3 games. That will probably put them at 62 pts. Might as well trade the 1st rd pick.
Bobbyo
Probably not!
Dreary furiously chewing crayons while smoking cigars just like his 2 mentors
JT Miller as Captain of the NYR culture club is as about as bat sheet crazy as it gets. The US Olympic team was referring to him as the grim reaper for his dour personality.
We be fukked.
LeBrun: The Kings have traded Corey Perry to the Tampa Bay Lightning for a 2nd RD pick
I’ll be headed out boarding for a bit so if there is news, please post if nobody else has yet!
Did they get Drury to trade our heroes for ghosts?
It’s okay, everyone- we’ll get to do this at the draft again, and rest assured, Drury will fuk it up then too. Is anyone shocked that he’s the only one who can’t seem to make a trade getting the assets that he should? Every other team will get the going price, but our asshat of a GM is incapable of closing out deals.
Never hire a boy to do a man’s job.
Can anyone recall a case when someone was bubble wrapped and not traded? This is like a Wilmer Flores thing.
Dreary playing 1D checkers
Jbytes
Maybe some Hot ashes for Trees
A clueless clown running the show. Like Minx I fully expect disappointment by the end of the deadline.
looks like isles will get schenn from stl
isles gm so much better than ours
Aiden Thompson era has begun. Remember where you were when you heard about this trade.
Drury is such a piece of sh-t. How is he STILL an NHL GM!!!! The only trades he makes are complete garbage, and the one time he had the asset, he blew it like the incompetent fuk he is!
no word yet on: Momentum has built for NYI & STL to complete a Brayden Schenn trade.
Elmer Soderblom from DET to PIT for a 2026 3rd
Mathieu Joseph, whose contract with STL was terminated today, signs with LA for one year at a pro-rated $900K
Nik Deslauriers to Carolina
Kraken captain Jordan Eberle is signing a 2 x $5.5M extension in Seattle
Corey Perry to Tampa Bay from LA for 2nd rounder
Bobby McMann to Seattle
Justin Faulk goes to Detroit for 1st and 3rd
LeBrun wiht details on this one:
Bobby McMann to Seattle for 2nd ’27 and a 4th in ’26
So Trocheck is awkwardly back in the lineup tomorrow?
Stromeo!
Ryan Strome from Anaheim to Calgary 7th RD pick ’27
Drury zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Forgot to set alarm!!
Sorry, I missed this one I think
#NYR are sending Derrick Pouliot to Chicago in exchange for 24-year-old center prospect Aidan Thompson
Trocheck is unmoved
Nick Kypreos @RealKyper Leafs trade McMann to Seattle @MapleLeafs getting a 2nd pick 2027 and a 4th 2026
he still has the asset …the ones that will be questioned are Carolina or Wild if they dont make a run
Nicely played, corporal clegg.
emily kaplan says trocheck 2 more years
she’s wrong. 3 more years
Quite the re-tool by Drury. WE WANT THE CUP, WE WANT THE CUP!!!! All the Rangers problems are apparently solved with a prospect for Panarin and a 3rd and 6th for Carrick.
At least he didn’t trade the 1st rounders he has. He will probably trade them on draft day.
Beezle
What was the purpose of the letter? Asking for a friend.
I had this idea that they would have four #1s and a couple of prospects after the deadline. All they have is Mr. Greenjeans. The $ucking will continue
Elliotte Friedman: Brayden Schenn from St Louis for Jonathan Drouin, 2026 1st (Colorado), a 3rd and Marcus Gidlof.
got 3rd in bread deal and 3rd in soucy deal
If Dreary couldn’t get what he wanted for Trocheck today I think it unlikely that he will over the summer though one can’t discount other GM’s getting drunk.
Well at least the Rangers will be good at face-offs. Who will be heading back to the Poodlepack with Trocheck back at 2C?
Kampf to Washington for a 6th
Drury didn’t sell low …you guys would have killed him for that too …sounds like a guy who isnt worried about losing his job
I hate this organization.
Maybe the best 2 way center available at the deadline and Butt Stupid loses again. We are truly cursed as fans.
Is Drury preparing to write a new letter on how the rebuild is on hold because his hands were tied.
OReilly and Stamkos staying put as well?
Look on the bright side …Sheary is still here
He made some calls. He took some calls. VT has to really feel wanted now. As soon as anyone ups the ante he’s gone.
They don’t have to send anyone down. After the deadline there in no roster limit-only the cap which they have room under. They can dress any 20 they want.
Guerin comment https://x.com/vzmercogliano/status/2030016405626663213?s=61
Btw- Sather looked like he was 100 years old last night! Man- even good ol’ stogiepuss was a better GM then our current socially awkward schmuck of a GM.
othmann to flames for battaglia
Seravalli: #Flames brought in Brennan Othmann from #NYR in exchange for Jacob Battaglia.
drafted 3 years later so would be waiver exempt. othmann would be subject to waivers next year
Battaglia:
Height 6.01 — Weight 202 [185 cm/92 kg]
Drafted by Calgary Flames
round 2 #62 overall 2024 NHL Entry Draft
turns 20 on 3/17
Most recent: Flint Firebirds 22 GP 12G 4A
Otter:
Height 6.00 — Weight 192 [183 cm/87 kg]
Drafted by New York Rangers
round 1 #16 overall 2021 NHL Entry Draft
Nazem Kadri back to the Colorado Avalanche
The New York Islanders announced today that the club has signed forward Jean-Gabriel Pageau to a three-year contract at $4.85M per
Tanner Pearson to Buffalo for a 7th rnd pick.
If LA makes the playoffs the third rounder for Laughton becomes a second
Think he is still a little shell shocked 🤣
Vancouver trades Reichel to Boston for a 6th RD pick
per peter baugh battaglia has been playing center for flint
LeBrun: Kadri (20 percent retained) and a 4th RD pick ’27 to Colorado for a conditional 1st, 2nd, Oluasson and Curran
Friedman says the first is 2028 but does not say if conditional
and from Seravalli: Conditional 2nd in 2027 one of MIN/COL
we play calgary next week. not sure if othmann will be in ahl or nhl
Jacob Battaglia is a high-IQ, offensive-minded winger whose game is defined by a “cerebral” approach and elite puck protection. While his skating remains a significant developmental hurdle, his vision and dual-threat scoring ability (accurate shot and creative passing) have made him a top OHL producer.
Elite Prospects
Core Strengths
Hockey Sense & Intelligence: His primary driver; he possesses a high-level sense of timing and positioning, frequently finding open ice and exploiting defensive holes.
Puck Protection & Cycle Play: At 6’1″ and ~203 lbs, he uses his frame and elite puck control to excel in small areas and along the boards. He is noted for working the cycle as well as any forward in the OHL.
Dual-Threat Offense: He is a deceptive playmaker with an 80% pass accuracy rating, utilizing various passing lanes (seam, bank, slip). His shot is heavy and accurate, effective at beating goaltenders from distance.
Work Ethic & Motor: Described as having a “relentless” motor, he is a consistent battler who rarely takes a shift off and thrives as a net-front presence.
(All About The Jersey)
Key Weaknesses
Skating Mechanics: This is his most significant “red flag”. His stride is described as “rough,” “clumsy,” and “inefficient” due to an upright posture and limited flexion.
Pace & Explosiveness: While his top speed is sufficient for the OHL, a lack of acceleration and separation speed can leave him trailing the play.
Defensive Engagement: Like many high-scoring junior wingers, he can occasionally “watch” plays defensively rather than staying fully engaged, though his positioning often mitigates this.
Professional Outlook
NHL Comparable: Often compared to Jason Robertson due to the combination of high-end hockey IQ, puck skills, and size paired with noted skating deficiencies.
Projected Role: Scouts generally view him as a potential middle-six winger. If his skating improves to NHL standards, he could become a top-six contributor and power-play specialist; otherwise, he projects as a depth scorer who can tire out defenders on the cycle
Jacob Battaglia, who?
GGMM making a crib sheet for youse guys
Minx – if they are getting someone younger than Otter how good could he be? Mothmann showed very little at the NHL level and only a now and then AHL flash. Wish him the best but under no illusions this new kid is going to make it better.
Battaglia looks to be centering Aspinall’s line in Flint. Aspinall is at 83 pts.(29-54) in 58 games.
Battaglia will be waiver eligible and Othmann is out of options next year. They might have lost him for nothing after camp.
Battaglia turns 20 on Paddy’s day so he should be in Hartford next year. Otter hasn’t paned out. Maybe a change of scenery will help.
no relation to hurricanes legend bates battaglia?
For those apoplectic if Drury is not trading trocheck today,
Why?
Beezle
Well as of now can we say the retool was successful. That is quite a haul!
Just a genuine question I’m not trying to be sarcastic, why the urgency to trade at the deadline a guy who still has 3 years of term. He’s not walking out the door for no compensation in july.
I hate to say it but I miss the 🦔.
Are we having fun yet?
Did Tro backstabbing personality play into him not being moved??
IMHO Trocheck’s value was probably at its highest with the Olympics and all. I expect Drury to be forced to take even less over the summer or next deadline than he would have received at this deadline. Next year will be worse than this year, so Trocheck’s numbers likely to go down without Bread.
The only way out of this dark pit is fire Drury and find a shrewd GM. Dolan will never sell the Rangers.
Trocheck sealed his own fate by limiting the teams he would go to. No chance for a cup for you VT. What a pitiful core we are stuck with.
You cant trade Trocheck and not get a potential 1 or 2c back
My nightmare scenario at the draft….our top first round pick for Austin Matthews.
It’s ok. so Drury didn’t Trade Trocheck. Sometimes the best deal you make is no deal at all. Why should Drury take less. I think he did the right thing. We have a lot of prospects that may turn out better than we thought. We’ll be fine; Lets just figure a way to get rid of Miller; man that was a bad move. Hate to say it but Drury did the right thing.
Jacob not related to Bates. Bates is American and Jacob is a Canadian.
Brisson is back in Hartford tonight and has 2 goals as The Pack leads Bridgeport 6-0 in the 3rd.
Battaglia, a thinking man’s thinking man with plenty of thoughts
Ranger fans are stuck in a rats maze with no way out! We can’t even smell the cheese.
Dreary not going to let this ruin his Lent.
Reviewing the grand haul from all the moves going back to Jan1 1025 and what do we have?
Received:
JT Miller, Will Borgen, Scott Morrow, picks, prospects and a letter
Traded:
Bread,Trouba, Kreider, Kakko, Miller, Soucy, Carrick, Reilly Smith, Ryan Lindgren, Chytl, Othmann
Didn’t Trade: Tro
To quote the famous philosopher DJ Khaled; “Congratulations, you played yourself”
2 bad leaders, who quit on the team last year, had 6 points combined for the playoff bound Ducks last nights.
Any franchise that trades 4 Captains in succession has a leadership problem, but it’s not in the locker room
SN
That is Brilliant!
JTM will be another Captain who will be moved. He doesn’t seem to have the temperament for the job. He still seems to be a troubled person. As his ability to contribute on the ice declines he may not deal well with it. I don’t know why Drury fixated on acquiring him.
I was for the Miller trade. Having said that, the reason Drury was fixated on Miller was because of Miller’s relationship with the weasel.
Why is JT Miller troubled?
Seems fitting that the horoscopes are beneath the NYR coverage in the Post today.
raddysh father passed
saw the lightning post
JT Miller I – a talented player who played the body, had good vision and hands along with amazing on the dot; questions always buzzing around about his attitude coupled by dubious outlet passes leading to prime A scoring chances against.
JT Milller II – same as above but more limited 3 Dzone coverage, lazy penalties not as much scoring, a dour sourpuss personality and names Captain !?!?!??
JT Miller II only cost a 1st and an Italian
I think Sullivan has said this a few times this season?
“Well, where we are, I think, is obvious. We’re going to try to continue to win games. We’re going to try to continue to find out about our group. We’re going to continue to try to move the needle and get better every day. We’ll push these guys every day. We’re going to try to win the game right in front of us. We’ll learn through the experiences along the way, but that will be the approach.”
On Trocheck:
“He’s been terrific. He’s such a good pro. He’s a great person, he’s a great leader, and he’s a terrific hockey player. I think he’s done a really good job under difficult circumstances, just trying to navigate through it. I always use the word compartmentalize it and try to go out and play when the puck drops, and that’s when he’s at his best. I think, moving forward, there’s a lot of unknowns. And so, right now, Troch is a New York Ranger, and we’re thrilled to have him.”
Boneheads Just what we’ve been waiting for: the Rangers vs derbies at 3 pm. And at 7 pm on Flo Hockey our prospects will play each other.
Flint Aspinall # 76 84 pts
Battaglia # 86 just got from Calgary
Windsor. Greentree # 77. 61 pts I know it’s OHL Hockey but these guys are good
It’s streamed on Flo Hockey
