The Rangers lost in OT to Columbus last night at the Garden after spotting the visitors a 4-0 lead through two periods.
1st period goals by Fantilli (16) and Marchenko (21) PPG got Columbus to an early 2-0 lead before they added two more in the 2nd period, Monahan (11) SHG and Olivier (9).
The Rangers had their own second period goal disallowed when a JT Miller PPG was taken off the board because of goaltender interference by Lafreniere.
Down 4-0, the Rangers scored two in the opening minute of the third – Gavrikov (10) and Perreault (4) to cut the lead to 4-2. Borgen (4) would make it 4-3 at 12:52 before Perreault (5) would get his second on the night to tie the game 4-4 at 15:14.
Marchenko (22) had the game winner for Columbus at 01:04 of the OT. Final 5-4 CBJ.
Notes: Perreault is the first Rangers player 20 or younger to have a three-point period since Kovalev did it on Dec. 26, 1993 and the first Rangers rookie to post three points in the third period since Amonte on Feb. 14, 1992.
Game summary below:

The next game is Thursday, 5 March at 19:00 PM EST against the Toronto Maple Leaves at MSG. Telecast by MSG and TSN4.

Beez should get MacDonald award for his efforts this season.
Purro had himself a period that seemed like it was ready to happen. Always making the smart play with puck and good positioning away from puck, obv physical limitations so needs to use grey matter to make plays but still a pup so time will tell. Needs to up the amount of creatine on his wheaties this summer.
Last game for Trocheck… Is he getting bubble wrapped until Friday?
If Trochek plays Thursday, it’s a fire able offense.
I’m picking Carolina, for Trochek. Wings 2, Wild 3.
“The next game is Thursday, 5 March at 19:00 PM EST.”
@Beezle
AM/PM is not required with military time.
I’m picking Wild if Yurov is coming back instead of Stramel. Don’t see any center from Canes or Wings that moves the needle unless he targets a Dman and moves Schneider for a young center from a western team
BRuins could use Fox and they have high value prospects
Detroit has some interesting forward prospects. I like Nygard.
I keep seeing that Yurov is off limits in a Trochek trade.
Saw that also Carey but i think he needs to hold firm… not sure Stramel projects to a 1 or 2C unless he’s getting additional assets picks. Wild are going for it
And how do you move Trocheck and/or Schneider this deadline without getting a 1 or 2c prospect… they are already depleted at center and Miller and Meeka should be on the wings at some point.
I agree that Yurov needs to be part of the trade. I also agree that the center position needs to be addressed. Not sure there is a 1C out there to be had. Maybe Kaspar, or Bystedt are 2Cs.
I think Wes McCauley should retire or move to linesman
Unless Drury drafts or trades for a world beater I think you can expect 1C Mika the foreseeable future
Somebody getting rid of a 1C prospect for an outside chance at the Cup is lunacy. Then again, the Sabres traded Eichel, OReilly and Rheinhart who were already bonfide top line players
Good thing only have 7 more seasons of Shesty as the highest paid goalie. He looked great last night, nothing to see here…
If Drury doesn’t get the right return and makes holds Trocheck ….he’s still gonna take a beating from the media… and here
JT on IR.
The difference with Trocheck is 3 more years of cost controlled contract if you think what he brings is an important piece of a Cup team in the next few seasons (I would argue yes it is) then a team should be willing to part with high end prospect
The problem is Drury is like an 8 year old who will give up anything for a tootsie roll pop.
Parsnips and Chemlaele are on the Greyhound from Hartford.
Done more research on JT. He & Peterson on the Canucks couldn’t stand each other & it caused team problems in the clubhouse. Many advised that he didn’t have the temperament to be a decent captain. He’s a problem. Early on someone said that he would do every thing to be on the Olympic team and once the medal was won within a week or so he would be placed on the injured reserve list. He’s not what he’s supposed to be. He should be traded & Drury and Sullivan should be fires. John Davidson & Messier as coach & MG.
Mean GM
Messier? Never happen.
That’s okay though only 4 more years on Miller contract. does a last place team need a good leader 😁
This is parsnips last chance to impress sully.
Will be interesting down the stretch trying to see who can make themselves noticed
Chemalar looked pretty good last time up. Size and strength.
The youthful enthusiasm may make teams annoyed they have to play against us at least.
What surprised me most about our D is that Borgen doesn’t look as good as he did last year when he earned his contract extension. Can’t put my finger on it. For whatever reason he’s less aggressive physically. Last year he was playing with much more confidence. Seemed like a bargain at 5mil.
Hope he gets back to that level of play
Borgen only makes $4.1M but agree that he has not looked as good this season. That Schneider was moved to first pair is indicative of coach view of Borgen.
He’s ok for what he is and you aren’t going to do that much better at that price point – everyone will have swings like this which are inexplicable. He was third pair before coming to NY for a reason.
The Wild traded for 6’6′ center McCarron of Preds. I would imagine they are now out on Trocheck, as McCarron is a PK guy that is good in the face-off dot. Wild gave up a 2028 2nd round pick. I guess they didn’t want to give up any of their good prospects.
I can’t wait to see the underwhelming return Drury gets for Trocheck now.
Mkh
Get used to disappointment. Every GM knows who Drury is. Now if only Dolan did.
McCarron has zero to do with Trocheck.
McCarron a nice pick up and big body but a 4th liner …not a Trocheck
and if McCarron can fetch a 2nd rounder so could Carrick
Derbils and Rangers proving you need more than centers to win in this league. Hughes missing games again but what about their other young emerging stars. Hughes has played only one full complement of games in the last 4 seasons and that was 4 seasons ago w 78 games.
Price of a young center, though it sounds like this is falling through?
“The alleged proposed package from the Sabres for Robert Thomas includes Owen Power, Konsta Helenius, and potentially Jack Quinn
Thomas WOULD be willing to waive his no-trade clause to go to Buffalo.”
That’s a good dela for Thomas. I assume they have offered the same package for Trocheck or Buffalo is on his no trade list.
I’ve had enough of Miller. What a pain in the ass. Someone had advised that he would pull this crap. REALLY GREAT CAPTAIN MATERIAL
Maybe just maybe it’s why they got rid of JT in the first place.
before you hang him, JT did get hit in the head with a slap shot last game
BobbyO
Miller planned getting hit in the head, so he could sit out after the Olympics.
Pitchforks are being sharpened for tomorrow Carey
What will be the useless return for Trocheck?
Original 6 funeral tomorrow night
Myers to Dallas.
Stars will be nasty once again in playoffs
Thomas is 26 with a contract through age 31. Trocheck is 32 with a contract through 35, so it’s not exactly apples to apples though
Spicy pork now a panther!
Trocheck probably gets traded to the pens for a Mario Lemieux rookie card.
PierreVLeBrun: Details: Tyler Myers to Dallas for a 2nd Rd pick in ’27 and a 4th RD pick in ’29. Plus Vancouver is retaining 50 percent on remainder of Myers contract which makes him a $1.5-million player this year and next.
frank_seravalli: Kiefer Sherwood’s new deal with #sjsharks is 5 years x $5.75 million. It includes signing bonus for the first four years and trade protection. Massive, life-changing deal for Sherwood, who in 2022-23 was playing in the AHL. Takes him through age 36.
The UFA market for RD really changed in last 24 hours for Dallas with Murphy moving to #LetsGoOilers and #SeaKraken keeping Oleksiak.
Borgen have no NTC/NMC?
borgen has no trade and beyond this year m no trade
not sure how many teams on these clauses
year 2 (not sure which yr is year 2) 15 team no trade
year 3 10 team no trade
year 4 6 team no trade
Zero hope for this team until Little League Champ Pizza Boy is shown the door.
Sad to say,but we all agree on our GM.
Would trocheck be more valuable to a Cup competitor in a off-season trade when they have more ability to structure around the cap hit? It seems like the deadline deals are usually trying to squeeze rentals in with prorated cap and retention because top teams are otherwise closed to maxed out.
Drury and Sullivan still trying to make the playoffs only 19 pts out of 2WC.
Really hope the parako trade goes through fo the Sabres
Rooting for Ruff
🐶
Three 2nd-round picks in the same trade is wild
The Calgary Flames traded defenseman MacKenzie Weegar to the Utah Mammoth for blue-liner Olli Maatta, forward prospect Jonathan Castagna, and three 2026 second-round picks, the teams announced.
The second-rounders were originally owned by Utah, the New York Rangers, and the Ottawa Senators.
As Pierre would say, “Ooooleee Maataaa”
I had no idea Olli Määttä was still in the league playing.
a team getting a ranger pick in 2nd rd in 2026 is close to a 1st rd pick
Just tuned in to the Islander game. Wow, Shanon Hogan lost a chunk of weight. That’s what we need between periods,
Excuse the pun, a female.
Boneheads. Notwithstanding our waiting We do have a lot to look forward to: Prospects Greentree with Windsor OHl, Aspinall with Flint OHL &. Lamb & Spence. They are in addition to those in the Hartford & those we’re going to from the Trochec.trade. Hang in there. Still don’t want Miller on this team.
Does Drury know that the trade deadline is Friday at 3:00? Maybe Dolan should wake him up from his nap before he misses the deadline.
Mkh
Drury knows. The problem is all the other GM’s know he can be fleeced. So Drury’s only recourse in deadline trades is to yield and settle for the best lowball offer.
Nashville fire sale. Nothing big but they basically took whatever someone willing to pay.
Drury sather and Dolan plotting how to get Stamkos
Prolly for Trocheck and 2026 1st round pick.
After all. His name is Stamkos!
Drury should trade someone now and take less ..just so this place is happy
“Don’t worry be happy.”
Drury should probably wait for the off-season if there isn’t anything suitable on offer. Solid player good effort right attitude in a bowl contract and term. There’s no rush.
In a bowl? Reasonable.
wwpd
I am OK with that. I just hope he doesn’t move Sheary. It may open a slot for a youngster.
Sheary is the core Drury talks about when he needs to explain to Dolan who he’s” retooling “around
Sheary – Miller – Johnny B
Next seasons top line
Without looking, guess the only 2 forwards with over 20 games played with a positive +/-
Washington Capitals @Capitals 17m
NEWS | The Washington Capitals have acquired a second-round pick in the 2029 NHL Draft, a third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft (originally from San Jose) and goaltender Jesper Vikman from the Vegas Golden Knights for forward Nic Dowd.
Seravalli: Can take Corey Perry off the Trade Targets 🎯 board, he’s informed #LAKings he wants to stay. They will talk contract extension after the deadline.
#GoKingsGo unlikely to buy or sell.
Per GGMM: Adam Edström has been activated off IR, per NHL media site. A good indication that he will return to the lineup tonight vs. Maple Leafs.
Parayko refused to accept trade to Sabres.
Hope he never makes the playoffs again
Dreary trading hot oil slice for salad slice after too much pasta in Milano
Player makes money in season, salary checks stop when reg season ends and playoffs begin. now has to play for peanuts as owners rake in prime gate receipts and TV money. Hmmmm

Say you’re a certain player from Russia. Maybe you didn’t grow up thinking much about the NHL or the Stanley Cup. Now you’re in the NHL in your 30s. Playoff style of play doesn’t really suit you all that much. You already got paid for the season. In your heart of hearts, do you care about winning the Cup at that point?
Most Russians I’ve met are intrinsically competitive people. Especially those darn chess players.
#mnwild have acquired D Jeff Perry from #TimeToHunt in exchange for a 7th round pick.
The #SJSharks have acquired defenseman Jett Woo from Vancouver in exchange for defenseman Jack Thompson.
@DarrenDreger: #LAKings are sending Warren Foegele to #GoSensGo pending trade call. LA is getting a pick in return and the two teams are also swapping picks.
The blowup continues –
Seravalli: Dallas are sending a 3rd round pick to Nashville in exchange for Michael Bunting.
@MollieeWalkerr says:
“Hearing Vincent Trocheck and Sam Carrick will not play tonight for #NYR vs. Maple Leafs. Roster management.”
