Wild looked off their game from first drop. Way too many turnovers, many unforced. Then they get back into the game just to implode again. Not that Vegas didn’t play a good hard game but think the Wild did themselves in as much as Vegas did.
For the stat boys, Barkov was -8 in that Tampa series. Not impressive.
All for the refs calling less in the playoffs, but this year feels different. Roy and Reaves cheap shots were suspendable offenses IMO. Roy with a predatory hit from behind on Brodin who never returned, most-likely concussed. Play-on. Reaves got 2 minutes for cross checking Suter from behind sending his forehead into the post. Suter was down for awhile. Guessing he was concussed as well, but he didn’t leave the game. The Wild scored on that PP, but Suter was never the same. FWIW, I was rooting for the Wild, but I’m not a Wild fan.
Have fun watching the Islanders beat Vegas in the Finals if this is the way they’re going to call it. They’re both good teams. Are they the best two teams in the league? Maybe.

There was a time in the not too distant past where it was taboo to score too closely into a empty net (I seem to remember one dust up with varada from the sabres and Todd Harvey from the rangers in particular about it) and if you did, you would take a bit of abuse for it.

Didn’t want to share this until he left. But at the traverse city tourney in 2019, fox, Kakko, kravtsov. I’d pass and sit/stand all the front office guys at the beginning/end of every period. I’d say hello to each people once at first and then give a nod or fist pump. And at the beginning of a period, I’m standing looking to see where I’m gonna sit, and bobrov is like 7 feet away, and we make eye contact and I nod at him, and he abruptly looks away and then very obviously tries not to look my way.
I basically waited for him to look at me, held the bird up and nodded at him again and then went and took a seat in the bleachers

I went to a Ranger game several years ago in one of the corporates boxes and Slats was in the corridor outside of the box chatting with some people during parts of the game. He seemed pretty warm and open and we may have exchanged pleasantries as I passed by. I’m not at all surprised he was approachable.
I grew up on the West Side near the Old Garden and Rod Gilbert, Jean Ratelle and a couple of the other Rangers of that era used to buy meat in a butcher shop in the neighborhood. We always had fun kidding with them when they came by. As I recall Ratelle wore horned rim glasses away from the ice and looked borderline nerdy with them on.

What good is your analytics department doing when your goals are coming from Jason spezza or jake muzzin.
If that’s not an indictment on analytics driven decisions what is.
Analytics and players with strong analytics is supposed to be able determine using these numbers who will create offense on this odds based concept.

Again your getting your goals from spezza who is not analytics find and from muzzin a guy brought in for his Stanley cup experience and two way game.
I like dubas for the fact he’s obviously eats and breaths hockey and his love and passion for the game got him where he is. You can say I’ve been hating on him all these years. No in my own ways, I’ve been trying to highlight what’s he’s missing that’s costing him in his dream opportunity.
I mean that kids first NHL job is with his childhood team. It’s his dream job.
Yeah this most likely will be the cutting his teeth portion of his career and he’s end up winning somewhere else after Learning some lessons. But Kyle, you don’t win in the playoffs unless you are built to win in the playoffs. And to win in the playoffs, you need horses on the backend who can eat up minutes and keep teams from the high danger areas. You absolutely need 2, and you control the game that much more if you have 3 defenders or more that can handle the role.

There is a expensive play that might allow them to take advantage of a flat cap and players taking 3 year deals or less that will allow them to become UFA again at a time the cap goes up.
And I brought it up with Taylor hall. You sign hall to a 3 year deal at 5 mil per and than trade him to a cup contender he’s willing to sign with and retain 50% of it. Obtaining team gets hall for 2.5m a year for 3 seasons.
Well transfer that Seth Jones right now, or merzelkins or to Zach werenski a year from now. The BJs sign Seth Jones to a 3 year deal at 10m and than trade him to the highest suitor he’s willing to sign with, retaining 50% and the obtaining team gets Jones for 3 seasons at 5m per.
Giving a cup contender a chance to add Jones for 3 years at 5m per, there are some desperate teams out there, that need him and could never afford his full cap hit.
How much would a team be willing to pay to get him at that price. How many cup contenders or teams Jones wants to go to can afford his cap hit if he wants to make big bucks? Working with the BJs on this could get Jones on his price and getting market value.
Jones is probably in a position where he’s gonna have to choice between a real cup contender and an extra 5-10-20 million on the deal (depending on length)

Wick, think Eichel’s deal is too long and the Sabres owner too cheap to retain salary for 5 seasons. Also it would mean he’d want an even higher return, which isn’t gonna happen until he gets a clean bill of health, which essentially can’t happen this offseason. Any trade this offseason will be at depressed value, but keeping him carries risk of further contaminating the locker room and that he doesn’t get healthier or even he gets worse.
Think Strome would stay on a reasonable raise, but term would be the big negotiated point. My guess is Mika only signs this offseason if it’s for the 8-9m/yr range. May also be looking to see if Barkov signs a new deal in florida because if he does Mika could be even more willing to risk going to UFA
If Drury signs Zibanejad long term for 8 mil. he better get a beast on his RW?

Strange enough, but I watch Bruins – Isles games exactly as emotionally as I watch Rangers game, no less – that’s how much I want Fishes to be eliminated. Besides, can’t help myself, but I like the way Boston plays.
In 1994, the Rangers won the cup for the first time in 54 years. At that time, the Leafs hadn’t won the cup in 27 years.
Now, in 2001, it’s been 54 years since the Leafs won the cup and 27 years since the Rangers won.
Let’s just hope that if the Leafs find a way to win tonight and go on to win the cup, that we don’t have to wait another 27 years for the Rangers to win!
