Let’s be frank as a beat writer. You either want a genius, an easy to get along with coach, or you want there to be upheaval every 3-4 seasons to create a new cycle.
And the last thing they want is to have to deal with a stubborn coach for a second time who they might have thrown overboard the ship along with the players.
Carp and Brooks just don’t want to have to face Torts everyday again.
It’s very simple where they are coming from.
And yes, Alex what is up, with posting just two sets of numbers. Like what even the heck. How’s anyone even supposed to tell what your referring to, so why post it without a reference.

Know what I hate? Watching my team suck. Know what I like? Seeing my team leave it all out on the ice win or lose.
The guy that can make that happen can coach my team.
Tired of seeing the team outplayed, the coach outcoached and the media chiming in about what a good guy the coach is despite not being a good coach because he smiles and chats pleasantly after every loss and doesn’t mind idiotic questions.
Maybe if they had something better than “Does this loss hurt? Do you worry about momentum going forward? Do you think you should have played so-and-so more?” some of these coaches wouldn’t answer stupidity with stupidity.

The next head coach of the Rangers is going to be a retread. That much we know. He’s going to be a guy who had some success, and has warts. He’s going to be a lot better coach than Quinn. So no matter who it is, it’s going to be an upgrade.
Not sure why I’m saying this but I am actually quite alright with John Tortorella as the next Ranger coach. I am just not sure Zibanejad would be 🤔

Torts: this course is part of the required first-year JD curriculum. It considers issues involved in determining whether the law should require a person to compensate for harm intentionally or unintentionally caused.

Match up with Trotz? The guy who won nothing until stumbling on to a loaded Caps team? Didn’t even make it to the second round until 2010, didn’t even win a series after the first round until that cup year? Really? If Trotz had been NYR coach anytime prior to the Caps cup win the boneheads would have had his head on a platter year after year. “Not the guy to get us to the next level”
Sullivan? Norm would have had three cups with that team at that time. Sully’s genius seems to have been very short lived. But it is nice to win the lotto.
Cassidy has a short record and well, yeah Bos was 5-3 against NYR this season. Have heard it said we had a horrible coach so maybe Cassidy isn’t a strategic genius?
Laviolette is the only one with a claim and though in the hockey-distant past, at least he won one cup, lost two and lost two conference finals among the many first round losses. However the interesting thing with him is the complete failures to take very good teams back to the finals (in fact better teams) resulting in his getting caned three seasons after.

The reality of it is if you are in the post season on a regular basis you’re probably losing a lot of the time.
This isn’t the nfl. 16 playoff wins in one year takes more than solid coaching.
Now if you’re Bruce Boudreau finding ways to let your team implode in dramatic fashion that’s different.
