Good morning, boneheads!
We wake up every morning with a full calendar of things to do. Some important, some urgent. Some just plain silly. We enjoy some, we hate some. Daily routine. Let’s not forget that it’s all possible because of some brave, selfless people, who spent large parts of their lives making sure we can safely go about our daily routine. We are honored to have some of them on our blog, and we are honored they are a part of our small family. Thank you for all you have done for us and our loved ones!
Happy Veterans Day!

If that’s how you guys feel, then he’s in the only spot for him. 4th line, and he’s gonna have to play himself into forcing Quinn to throw the 4th line out more. He’s not gonna supplant howden, and he’s not capable of 1/2c. There’s not even room to switch him to W to get him top 9 minutes. If you don’t want to move him, 4th line is where he can play
The 95 team may have been a more talented team than the 94 team. Added Verbeek, and Zibanejad, I mean Nedved. Lost Tikkanen.
Lines, eh?
Panarin Zibane Buchnevich
Kreider Chytil Kakko
Lemieux Strome Fast
Andersson Howden Smith
Interesting way to showcase Andersson. By limiting his ice time. Or are they showcasing Howden? 🙂
I do not think they have made a decision to give up on Andersson. I also do no think his ceiling is a 4th line center.
Sounds like Zibanejad is out for the rest of this week.
There are, for whatever the coaches reasons, at least three centers ahead of Lisa at this time. If Chytil does not regress or somebody else get hurt, the best Lisa is looking at is battling Howden for 3c. As it seems more likely that there will be movement on the wings (Kreider? Fast? Buch? Strome?) I would put him over there sooner than later. If something opens up he has a chance to move up.
Not even 4″ of snow when you factor in early morning inversion sleet and yet the town plow managed to knock the door off my mailbox. Said door nowhere to be found. Argggg!
Doodie,
Just further proves my point. Are we close to a Cup right now? Or just deciding that we have too much depth for our 21 year old 1st round pick to establish a role here? Unnecessary trade talk re: Lias IMO.
Jpp. My argument is he SHOULD supplant Howden
I’m not clamoring for top 6
And maybe 4th line is fine. But the times he gets staples to bench need to end and he shouldn’t be scratched for Kegger ever
ILB good point about the showcase aspect. I’m pretty sure gorton doesn’t have him on the trade block but I’ve been wrong before.
Cregg, I’m with you 100% I keep saying it’s a long season and there are a lot of moving parts. We don’t know what will happen with Kreider, Strome, Chytil, Lias, Howden, Zibanejad’s health etc.
As long as they have all of this settled by January when they finally play the Islanders……
Strome theory: “He’s a point per game player as the 1C but really if you bump him down to the third line and switch him to the RW he’s not going to give you much. But that’s where I feel he best fits….”
WHA?
Oh and BY THE WAY, BDL. I caught that before…I just choose not to acknowledge it.
ps- would have been nice to see what that 95 team could have done with a full 82 games…
pps- would have also have been nice to see what that 96 team could have done if Smith didn’t foolishly dismantle it at the deadline.
ppps- I’m hungry
Did I break the blog or am I BANJing?
Neither, JamesG. You just like talking to yourself 🙂
I was scheduling the Go Time post….
Going back top Abdersson. I’m yet to understand what this season’s main goal is. Is it a must win ( meaning make the playoffs ), or is it a season when they want to see their youngsters to progress? Ideally, both, I know. But shouldn’t they have more emphasis on the latter? Give Andersson more responsibilities, if he can’t do it, send him to Hartford. It looks like it’e a much better environment there this year. No, I don’t mean the city, Coos 🙂
I hadn’t noticed, ILB. Even I don’t listen to what I have to say!
Let’s not pretend like Strome has scored a ton of points without Panarin. Panarin elevates his linemates.
Strome didn’t have panerin last year though
He wasn’t anywhere near a point per game player, either.
I still can’t believe how darn good Panerin is. I really had no idea he was this good of a player. I take back any reservation I typed last year when discussing the FA frenzy. I was concerned about his size but that has been a non issue. He is so dang shifty and gifted on his skates to avoid the big Defenders trying to hit him when in a puck race. It’s like impossible to teach the things he does.
Strome prior to Mika: 8 games, 2 goals, 4 assists, 6 pts
Boston game: 2 assists, one definitely with Panerin on ice, 2 pts.
After Mika injury: 6 games, 3 goals, 5 assists, 8 pts
Without going back to look to see who was on ice on each score, I’d say the jury is still out on that one?
As to 2018/19 – his 0.52 ppg was 6th on the team and looking at the scoring sheets he was out there a lot of the likes of Howden(0.35ppg), Chytil(0.31ppg), Vessey(0.43ppg), Names2Long(0.40ppg), Buch(0.59ppg) and some Kreider(0.66ppg) too.
Beezle, how much of that is at even strength vs the PP?
Ilb – I’m all for giving Lisa more responsibilities (for awhile) but where? Other than swapping with Howden where would you put him? And how are you getting him more minutes (ie, who loses minutes)?
RR2, I’ll leave that excercise to you – but does it matter in the end? Are you going to rip up guys like Cindy or Ovi because they get a lot of points on PP?
No, not at all. But everyone on the PP is getting to eat because Panarin is there.
Also, Cindy? Give me a break.
Well done beeze. That took some digging.
Kreider, Kakko and Buch have more PP TOI than Strome, yet Strome has the most PP pts of the four. He clearly doesn’t understand he sucks.
Emrick tonight. ‘Oooooooooh, he paddlewaffles it into the corner…’
If you read Panarin story it’s pretty obvious everything he’s got is a hard work overcoming obstacles, mostly financial. If you think hockey is expensive here, you can only imagine what it costs in Siberia. Especially “subsidized “ by a grandpa from a small village. Had to overcome being overlooked by the NHL because of small size. Talent was always there, but his hard work got him to where he is now. Still working hard, $11+M salary isn’t going to change that. This is all he knows.
Kravtsov, on the other hand. Well to do family. Tremendous talent. Good size. Yeah, I’m concerned.
Unsustainable
That’s what you are
Unsustainable
Tho’ near or far
Like a Corsi stat that clings to me
How the thought of you does things to me
Never before
Has someone been more…
Unsustainable
In every way
And forever more
That’s how you’ll stay
In those first 8 games, one of those points came with Panarin on the ice, though Panarin did not figure into it.
Boston game were both with Panarin. Mika left that game after the first. His first 1:08 as the new center for Panarin were the 2 goals to start the second period that sent that game careening into a ditch. One of his two points in that game is the only point since being paired with Panarin where Strome has a point that did not also involve a point for Panarin.
So, the real breakdown is 8 games without Panarin, 5 points without Panarin, 1 point with Panarin.
7 games with Panarin, 10 points, all with Panarin on ice, 1 point where Panarin was not also getting a point.
He was scoring above what I was expecting without Panarin, but Panarin is why his totals have exploded recently.
Beez, I’ve always said he’s an OK PP player. My beef has always been 5 on 5.
So let’s trade away one of the centers that has good chemistry with bres dman. Cause you know, Mika will never be hurt or anything.
Breadman
cregg, Panarin will have chemistry with whoever you put as his center. There has yet to be a center in the league that he has not clicked with. It’s why I advocated all summer for not putting him with Zibanejad.
IM telling you the coaches beef with andersson is he is not seeing and playing the game fast enough. He is too diliberate with what he does, and he works/wills himself so hard but he can’t process what’s going on around him, and it leads to disjointed play between him and his linemates, him missing assignments.
That’s why howden plays over him, bc for all that he hasn’t begun to do or do enough, he has a really good sense of what’s going on with the puck and the players, where play is headed, he’s just a lot more aware and able to play the game at a higher pace than andersson.
I’m not saying his ceiling is 4C, I’m saying that’s where the minutes are for him up here.
Just so we are clear. When Strome scores it’s because of Panarin. When he scores on the PP it’s because Panarin and whoever else is out there with him. But when he doesn’t score as often or he’s out there 5 on 5 and the other team scores against us it’s because he sucks and doesn’t have any true value. GOT IT!
I think someone else might have said it. The rangers were trying to rush andersson and chytil bc they were the 1st face of the soon to be rebuild letter. (Look, i wanted them too also, I want new young blood like calmly,Dubi, G, step, mcd were back in the day)
But andersson should have stayed in Sweden like henriksson did this year. I honestly still think andersson is a season (maybe half season if you zero him in as a certain row) away from being able to show what he’ll really be. I still see a player who’s a year away. The preseason fooled us bc we hadn’t seen hockey in a bunch of months and chytil was nervous about losing his spot
Panarin is on his 3rd team, this is his fifth year in the league. Consistent PPG player, including in NY ( 18 in 15 ). By the way, I’m surprised nobody is talking about Panarin for Saad trade much. Talk about highway robbery.
ILB, I’m sure it’s the biggest blemish on Bowman’s resume as far as Chicago fans are concerned. Especially because the leadership core of that Hawks team basically lobbied to him for Saad’s return (as well as Sharp’s).
Just to add on Strome- you can’t use the “well anyone who plays with Panarin would do well” thing because quite frankly it doesn’t always work out that way. Not taking anything away from Panarin he’s been amazing. But most fans celebrate chemistry. They don’t use it to justify getting rid of a player.
In fact I’m pretty sure another version of this argument over the summer went something like “well let’s pump the brakes on Panarin because you know he played with Kane and then he played with Cam Atkinson so you know….”
What is Andersson supposed to be doing exactly? He plays with the likes of Brendan Smith and Jesper Fast. Not exactly offensive catalysts. Should he be making them better? Scoring at will?
I’m going to go out on a limb and say most wouldn’t be gushing over Mittelstadt if he were here either.
James G — excellent!
