Rangers 3, Devils 2 OT

The Rangers got two points! The Rangers got two points!

Did the Devils take a win against the struggling Rangers for granted? Perhaps a little bit but by the third period they had ample time to wake up and did not. So cheers for perhaps the most complete game played by this team in many weeks. Months even.

After dangerously spotting the Devils the first two penalties of the game, the Rangers drew one of their own at the 12:00 mark of the first period and wasted no time taking advantage, Fox sending a shot from up high that got through all traffic and into the net. Fox (2) took the shot after getting the puck of the faceoff win by Trocheck (15). 1-0 NYR and the same at period end, shots NJD 11 NYR 8.

The Rangers opened the bad period by giving up a goal at 04:03, a tip-in by J. Hughes (16). Though Zibanejad was stationed in front to cover for the defenders, he made no move to push Hughes out of the crease. Pesce (6) and Palat (9) with assists.

It would remain tied for a short while until Bratt (15) put one past Shesterkin that he definitely would like back and unfortunately as been a somewhat regular give up. Bratt skated in from center ice down the left side, Schneider in front of him taking away any drive to the net, and let one go from the dot. Shesterkin saw it the entire way but… 2-1 NJD at 08:28 , J. Hughes (34) and Hamilton (22) with assists, if dubiously so in Hamilton’s case.

Unlike so many previous games, the Rangers would answer back when they were awarded a power play late in the period. With not much time left on the PP, Fox (31) at the point sent the puck to Zibanejad (18), up high, who boomed one center net. Though the shot did not score, it rebounded directly to Panarin (17) in the circle, who on one knee beat, Markstrom. Game tied 2-2 at the end of the bad period.

In an equally unusual event, the Rangers did not completely turtle in the third in an effort to get the Bettman point in the bank. Though there was no scoring, they continued to play a reasonably tight defensive game while still putting shots on net when in the Devils end, 12 shots to the Devils 6 in the period. But it was going to OT…

Did your OT bingo card have a game winning goal by Sam Carrick? I hope someone got a good line out of Vegas because SamIAm scored the winner at 02:48 of OT. Carrick poked the puck off of Hughes as he was driving to the Ranger net, the puck going to Smith who broke out of the zone with Carrick on his left side in a 2 on 1. As Smith neared the net he dished off to the trailing Carrick who buried the puck, 3-2 NYR OT Final. Prior to the game last night, Carrick had a career 0:36 OT TOI.

The Rangers will travel to play the Vegas Golden Knights Saturday at 22:00 EST. MSG and SCRIPPS have the game.

A bit late, sorry! Had to shovel and take a call. But it is sunny and +20F! And barely and wind!

Important win for this team, been playing the right way coming out of the break. Lavi shortened the bench knowing the stakes.

Sam Fuggin Carrick. This guy. This f’n guy is the man. Straight ahead Sam has a solid game and doesn’t suffer fools gladly. New Fav Ranger.

Derbils have been in a rut, but who cares. Will Borden with a nice hit on Oscar Meyer who went skulking to bench.

Kudos to Carrick, but 9 points all season and 62 lifetime for a 33 year old center ain’t exactly Cherries Delight.

Best effort/performance in months. Aside from a brain cramp or two, Bananajad seems to be awakening from his Ibiza hangover. Same could be said for Laffy Taffy and Smitty. Miller still sucks, and Rempe played like a hybrid between a traffic cone and a timid little boy who just got a talking to. Let’s see what this team can do on a tough road trip.

Miller has been better since Borgen pairing. Still eating minutes despite the brain farts

He is playing around 20 minutes a game. You still have to replace those minutes if they move him

Carrick also 58.7% on faceoffs. Perfect 4th line center.

I haven’t been able to watch, but it seems like they’ve been playing better the last two weeks, even in games they haven’t won. Hopefully past rock bottom.

at 32 this is only Carrick’s second time in the NHL he is likely to dress the entire season, and his first contract making $1M/ year. maybe explains why he’s seemed to stay motivated while a lot of these other, younger “veterans” fell off

Carrick has been exactly what a 4th liner should be. I can’t believe he was on the ice in OT, but he was having a very good game. So I’m glad he got rewarded. Although if I were to buy a jersey (I won’t because they are too expensive) it would be a Coolio one. He is my current favorite Ranger.

rempe will hopefully find a middle ground between dangerous plays/suspensions and what we saw last night. To be effective he needs to be more physical.

Beezle great analysis as usual. I know I that I keep on saying this but the Rangers need to use their speed/talent by dictating the play not watching. Speed, puck control. Hard checking in neutral ice. Why can’t Fox take more shots from up high. Rangers play their best when they stop watching and dictate the play. Best game of the year so far. Shesterken is still not at his best and Rempe may not be permanent. He’ll.never be a top six player

Still waiting to hear Rempe suspended 16 games for giving a dangerous, mean look at the ref last night.

Ironic that ex-goon Parros lectures and fines Rempe.

i thought Rempe was Timid and not as effective as he was before, i would imagine he is rusty . I think if he plays more he will get better just not sure where he ends up, Career wise at his best. They seem to win more when he plays then when he doesn’t and they seem to play harder as well. He definitely gets in front of the net, if only there were more shots generated when he did that. Did I see Trocheck in front of the net on one of the PP’s?

I think its great for Carrick. He plays the way the game should be played, a bit of a throwback. I like it . Im glad he was on during OT maybe Lavy will wake up and realize that changing things up can lead to positives.

Great job Beezle as always . Thank you and CCCP for all that you guys do here

Have to admit I was shocked when they won. I was expecting a blowout. Good to see Carrick with the winner.

Though I have found myself rooting for them to lose over the last few weeks, as I think a rebuild is in their best long term interests, I just can’t root for them to lose to the Devils or Islanders. I hate both those teams.

Berard definitely provides a spark. Young kid could use some trips down to develop with important minutes.

too bad they never did that to develop Kaako

I’m happy to see Groulx get a look. He has put up decent numbers and there isn’t another C in Hartford who is worth calling up right now. Slot him in for Johnny for a game. I assume Lavy will ice the same team minus Rempe in Vegas and Jimmy V goes back in.

  28. Beezle Avatar

Think VC may be sitting a few games, seems odd to have re-called Rempe just to sit him a game later when you knew the Chytil situation. Likewise a bit surprised Berard sent back down.

Beezle, I don’t think Berard being sent down, has anything to do with Berard. I think it has to do with the Chytil situation, and that Brodzinski stinks.

“My phone — I put my phone right here [on the shelf behind me]. I took off my elbow pads, I turned around, and it fell in [my pants],” said Dynyak, via translation. “I didn’t even feel it.  [It was] like putting a cigarette behind your ear and you forget about it after a while. It came out and I didn’t realize what was going on at first.”

“This is a very funny situation – maybe a little embarassing. It will be a new meme. A fine from the league? I don’t know, I hope the league will take pity on me. It was an accident; I didn’t do it on purpose.”

Howden, chased out of town by the Chytilmaniacs. They are almost as bad as the Swifties. Not surprising he turned in to a very good role player.

If groulx replace BroDude and Vesey for Rempe then who is replacing Berard? The only other spare winger is the sulking assistant captain on IR

  37. Mike rogers Avatar
    Mike rogers

Beezle, I don’t know who is replacing who. I’m just telling you why I think they did what they did. For some reason they are afraid to lose Brodzinski on waivers. I doubt anyone would claim him, and is someone does, who cares.

  38. wwpd Avatar
    wwpd

Unfortunately NYR never seem to want to retain their younger role players long enough that they would emerge (or not) preferring to return to the scrap heap most years to fill the bottom positions. Hopefully this is changing with some guys like Edstrom being effective in their spots and can sign them to reasonable medium term contracts.

Moving howden made room for goodrow. Same day transactions I believe. Meanwhile that was 4 seasons ago!

  39. wwpd Avatar
    wwpd

Anyway decision making about whom to sent packing has been mixed, but maybe not terrible. A bunch of these guys like lemieux, Gauthier, Blais, Blackwell are out of the league or doing not much more than their replacements. Howden may be the standout if this isn’t just a fluke season.

Gorton pulling up yutes too early or not giving them time at all in Hartford to try and show draft value

Re Zibanejad/ Miller. Sometimes the best trade is not to make it. He has picked up his game substantially. Re Kam/ Jones. Keep Jones; Lav is really screwing him. We could get a decent return on a trade. Kam will never change; we’re all sick watching him make mistakes

  44. Loneranger Avatar
    Loneranger

Mike Rogers wrong. Brodzinski will be picked up immediately by some other team. We should care. He’s an all purpose fill in player that does what he needs to do. Plays wing, center & he’s fast.

Brodude would be picked up by someone. He’s a role player. Not too many mistakes, goal here and there. Wing or center. Including last season, has been in 76 games, 9G 15A 24 pts +0 11:00 ATOI. 50.5 FO%. For the money they pay him, that’s fine. Hopefully one of these kids from Hartford can be here next year instead.
