The Rangers travel across the country to try to knock off the NHL leading Vegas Golden Knights and their leading goal scorer, former NYR Brett Howden (15G). A win tonight could signal the worst of the season may be past, or at least that it may not get any worse.
NYR enter 4-5-1 of their last ten, most recently with the OT win over the NJD. Vegas comes in 8-2-0, most recently dropping one to the NYI. Vegas has a definite edge on the PP but is surprisingly mediocre on the PK. As expected, Vegas has the edge in GF and GA.
Line-up wise: Shesterkin is in goal tonight for the NYR. Kreider and Chytil remain out with UBIs. Berard was sent packing to Hartford and Groulx called up to be road Prucha’d. Vesey is playing back in. Sounds like Edstrom will move up to be left wing on the third line and VC slotting in to the left on the fourth line. Rempe will continue on the fourth line and Brodzinski will center the third line. Early reports have Samsonov in net for the VGK (2.65 GAA, 0.907 SV%) though there really is little difference statistically if Hill were to get the nod.
Your fine NHL officials tonight are Blandina (262 GP) and Furlatt (1501 GP). Neither seem eager to whistle but when they do, Blandina likes to ticket the hosts.
Keys to a Ranger victory today: Defense, defense, defense and don’t let Vegas fly through the neutral zone.

Carrick as 3C gives them a traditional top 6/bottom 6 that has been absent in the ‘top 9’ approach since AV. Chytil at center brings speed and offensive focus but lacking D which puts pressure on the back line. No mistake D corps has looked better in his absence along with the steady play of 2 newcomers and w Lindy emerging half way thru season, he actually hit someone hard yesterday. Does that happened w/out Rempe in lineup? Discuss amongst yourselves.
they do seem to play better IMO. Rempe got the puck out of the Ranger zone and got an assist on the game winner. Then Lavy plays them maybe 1 more shift. Why not play the hot hand? I think its Lavy that has to go. The 2 game winning streak were won by the 4th line. Its frustrating to watch Lavy not play them more often…
Otherwise , that gsme was exciting to watch. Had a playoff feel to it. Not sure the Rangers are built for 16 or even 4 games like that as currently constructed . Vegas just kept hitting them hard. I hope there are several more moves that can get them to that Level.
