Good morning, boneheads!
The ledge is getting crowded after 5 games already. During a rebuild, no less. Didn’t think it was going to be any different, one of many reasons I love this place. 😀

Both those guys would be gone already if it was up to me and we’d have a solid nhl vet 200ft centre in his upper 20’s or so on this roster to help the 3 young centres along.
SN
What’s with all these weird stats you keep throwing out?
Ok BDL so I guess we are back to trading 3/4 of the team after five games. Makes sense. Then people wonder why Carp laughs at everyone for saying they won’t tolerate a rebuild lol
James said sucks, like, about 8 times
It’s not about McLeod, James. It’s about Buchnevich. And when they bench the next guy and play McLeod for him, it won’t be about McLeod, it will be about the guy they benched.
McLeod defnitely not a boost…has he even won a fight yet?…why bother. Also would love Anders Lee on the Rangers
Exactly Wicky. Just like BDL said Quinn needs guys that can play his way. It takes time to figure out who can and can’t. My opinion is that Hayes and Zibanejad won’t be able to. And both will find their way out of here.
“I’ll take Jap anus relations for $200”
Well I guess we are f then, BDL : D
That’s what a rebuild is! You figure out who you are going forward with, and you jettison the rest. How many of these guys on the current roster do you think are actually going to be here when they become good?
Lmao give me 25 mins and I’ll say it another 50, E3
James said f
Toughest guys don’t win every fight, but they never back down from the next one. True toughness.
James G, two minute minor, 5 minute major, 10 minute misconduct….potty mouth.
Some of these guys may be incapable of being good under Quinn, BDL. I’m not blind to that fact. I see the same thing you see out if Buchnevich. The only difference is I’m rooting for him to figure it out.
If he can’t then yeah maybe he’s going to figure it out on another team. Just like Hayes and others
It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of your pickup on 5th and 84th.
I’m going to appeal to Bettman, E3
Kooz – I’m looking for a 12 room place on the UES. $800/month. Know anything?
Bettman – “jjjjjjjames GGGGGGG: AAAApeal DDDDDENIED”
AV learning of Buchnevich getting scratched
https://images.gr-assets.com/hostedimages/1380396731ra/765030.gif
Buch does not like small rinks and can’t or won’t adjust. And the beat goes on.
Not rooting against him. Just being honest about what I have seen this year under Quinn, and last year under AV.
$800 a month, you can pretty much get anything you want anywhere in Manhattan these days.
Good to know. I’m hearing NYC real estate is rock bottom. Looking to purchase some yuge buildings.
When Q starts a Presser by scratching and digging at his wedgie, look out.
Most buildings have valet pickup truck service included. Synthetic oil, Everready plugs.
I don’t think anyone is making an opinion on these guys after 5 games into the season.
With the exception of howden, every other guy on this roster has had Nhl regular season experience (obviously to varying degrees) and at least two nhl training camps.
The important things, character and competitive nature, should be well known by now.
Just because a player isn’t good on one team doesn’t mean he won’t excel on another.
Change of scenery/system can work with some players.
I find it amusing as hell that fans that say they are ok with a rebuild start complaining when others suggest trading a quarter of the roster.
I know for a fact that people have different opinions of what a rebuild is, but I find it very funny that trading 4-6 guys off a roster would seem extreme or “crazy” in any sort of rebuild/retool.
In fact, that should probably be a minimum number if the coach you have chosen to go forward with has a different style of play and system than their predecessor, rebuild or not.
You have to have guys that work in the new guys system and style of play he wants or you are just treading water,
Fortunately the rangers made plenty of…uh-oh
They didn’t make a bunch of changes!
Wholly crap, as of right now they are treading water!
It isn’t a rebuild as of right now?! Shocking?!!!!!
Treading water till the next purge.
Wick as far as I’m concerned trades are part of a rebuild and a lot of these guys will not be here at the deadline.
The part that I disagree with is the idea of “get them all out of here right now”. That’s not how a rebuild works you don’t implement a new coaching staff and a new system and then five games in go “welp I’ve seen enough. Not gonna figure it out here.”
Previous camps and previously us coaches are irrelevant. The old regime asked different things of these guys. Clean slate should be clean slate despite the eye test from all of us “professional fans”
Bdl
Yep, then that goes right into the draft and next summer’s free agency binge by the rangers and the restock/retool is over and next season they begin the playoff run push all over again.
Should probably bring up the fact that guys like Chytil and Buchnevich aka the “skill guys”are the ones who have the potential to actually provide some offense. Something the veteran players on this team most likely won’t be able to do. You want Quinn to build his team but you don’t want a repeat of the Torts era where you’re relying on the Callahans and Dubinskys for 50 point seasons if you’re gonna have a prayer. Successful teams have a balance.
If the opportunity presents itself James, you make the move right now. The Ducks have injury problems upfront. If the called about Zucc, and made a respectable offer, you do it. Same with Hayes. No reason to wait if you have a partner now.
Reality is many of these forwards. would be solid pros playing with top 6 talent; Spoon with Bs, Names with Bolts, Belesky with Avs (I keed) and probably Butch as well. This team needs drivers, not passengers. Big hole has been and will continue to be this season the middle of the ice, i.e. pivots.
.
Good news; Howa Doin’ looks like a gamer so far; Lisa is kicking arse in Hoford chewing on his mouthpiece, ready to come back up to MSG and Don Cheadle has skills; so help is on the way, just going to be a couple of seasons.
.
VERY happy they did not sign Hazed and Confused for any extended time.
I’m not sure how much of a free agency splash they can make Wick.
The karlsson sweepstakes don’t have much of a ufa consolation prize.
Yes, they can sign Panarin (and I hope they do) but then what?
Pavelski probably won’t get to free agency. Duchene ? Simmonds? Eberle?
Top six talent is what we lack the most SN.
James
It should have been done prior to now. Which has been my point all along.
I’ve never said they should do them all in one day. I do stand by my point of 6 or 7 of the 9 guys I’ve listed should be gone by the deadline and some of those should have been dealt before now.
If trading is part of a rebuild, every team is “rebuilding”.
Which, in a salary cap era, I believe they all are on a constant basis. Some just do it much better than others.
It’s why I find it so goddamn funny at how over the top some here get about a supposed “rebuild/retool/restock”.
Should be two minutes for chewing mouthpiece. Disgusting.
Maybe Ottawa will to deal Stone for Hayes come January
The core of the next team is,
Kravtsov, Chytil,Andersson, Howden, Miller, Hajek, Lindgren, Nils, and Shestorkin. Plus this years first rounder. Possible pieces,
Gettinger, Gropp (doubtful), Lindqvist, Meskanen, Pionk, Georgiaev, and Crawley. Probably one or two guys I’m forgetting.
I forgot Skjei. They have committed to him, so he’s a big part of the core. I guess Zibanejad too. And who’s the Dman they drafted this year, was in camp, and did well? American kid.
Can’t wait to see what if any suspension Matheson gets.
All I know is if there were clutching and grabbing, Peterson never gets a concussion
the lack of any top picks from 13-16 drafts along with misses in the ’09 – ’12 drafts in 2nd round when those players should be contributing puts undue burden on the mid round picks like Butch.
If you look at just 1st/2nd Round picks not a lot there until ’17.:
’09; 1- Krieder, 2 – Werek
’10; 1- McIlwath, 2 – Thomas
’11; 1- JT Miller, 2 – Fogarty
’12; 1 – Shea, 2 – Boo Nieves
’13; 1 – n/a, 2 – N/A, 3 – Butch, DuClair, Tambellini
’14; 1 – n/a, 2 – Halverson, 3 – Iverson
’15; 1 – n/a; 2 – Gropp
’16; 1 – n/a, 2 – na/, 3 – Day
Wick that wasn’t directed at you when I said people want them all gone now. You and i have talked about this at length at this point.
I guess I just can’t or won’t write some of these guys off while counting the days til they’re traded.
The veterans are an exception as most of them are either untradeable or couldn’t bring back a respectable return at last year’s deadline.
Those are the guys that are causing them to “tread water”
Solid point, SN. This “rebuild” would look a little prettier had there been talent coming down the pipeline
How in the heck do they take Halverson in R2 with Henk and Tambot here at the time. My lord.
Hayes and Zibanajad will be fine… 25 goal scorers in their prime should be able to produce and figure out any new system …have to see if that production results in keeping them or moving them
And as bad as the offensive situation is, the defense is worse. If they plan to honor the contracts of three washed up vets and allow them to block guys like Lindgren Hajek it eventually Rykov then the improvements will have a ceiling no matter what they do at forward
Bdl
Exactly. It doesn’t matter if it’s 2 games in or 60 games into the season. If you get a chance to move any of these guys that need to go, you do it.
Not saying JT Miller is/was a first line player, but would have loved to have seen him with another coach, particularly this one. Problem is players like JT and Haze are now $5M/year guys and with the Cap only gradually going up creates the dreaded squeeze.
Bdl
Keane?
I was a big JT Miller guy. He would be a miserable person right now going through this. Miserable!
Yes! That him Wicky. He a guy who could also be part of this.
I’ll ask you guys this, what’s worse..,
Blocking a young guy for a season of Nhl time and experience because you can only get a 3rd round pick for a guy instead of a 2nd rounder
Or taking the 3rd instead of the 2nd?
Way down inside……woman……you ….need me
I don’t think there is a single prohibitive to a trade contract on this roster except for staal.
Lundqvist is technically a second one, but he’s supposedly staying no matter what so I didn’t include him.
we can hypothesize all we want but Gorton has already stated that he’s not going to field an all under 20 team with no veterans in the mix
Bdl in a hypothetical situation if someone called about Zucc or whoever I’m sure Gorton would listen. We as fans make those situations sound so significant but gms are always talking to each other throughout the season.
Sounds like hopes and wishes five games in
Smith and Shattenkirk are both moveable at the deadline Wick. Hopefully they’re moved. Staal is the LD pitentill blocking a prospect though
Last night saw a site projecting total points in seasons and NYR was last with 73.5 – ouch! Last in league.
‘Way down, down by the docks of the city.. ‘
Rangers might not go deep but our sexy sexy boys will make the playoffs. Book it.
Blind and dirty…..asked me for a dime. A dime for a cup of coffee…
Quinn is not likely to get “his guys” here. They’re already here, and even if he has a say in the next draft or two, those guys will be way down the road. He has no NHL trading experience at all, so Gorton is not likely to lean on him there.
He’s got a young team, and it’s his job to convince them to play the way he wants, and that way had better reflect how best their skill sets overlap with his ideal system. Gorton didn’t hire him to field requests about who he’d rather have than who he has now. He was hired for his teaching skills, and so far so good if you ask me. Maybe he convinces Gorton to get him a former player like a Grzelcyk or a Rodrigues, but he won’t be getting–hope I’m wrong–Eichel or Tkachuk or McAvoy.
BDL
have to wait until closer to deadline to trade the rental guys. We wants picks or youth and not dead money contracts from the other team. Once we get near the deadline the pro rated part of Zucc, Hayes and McQuaid will make them much easier to trade.
The rebuild is still just that with the moves we did a year and a few months ago and the various trades we made in March. And not all were expiring contracts. Stepan, Miller and McD to name 3 had term or were restricted in the case of Miller.
We are hamstrung by some big contracts in goal and on the blueline. Including Girardi’s buyout money we have $ 20 million tied up on 3 spots of the blueline with Staal, Smith and Shatty and that covers only 3 of 8 defensive spots. Add in Henrik’s 8.5 and there’s not a lot of room to play in the ufa market. We’re probably going to be heavily in on the bread man but I don’t see much we can do this summer in the ufa, huge contracts wise.
Maybe we buy out 1 of the big d contracts but that would save 2 million or less/year for couple of years while creating more dead space in outer years.
BobbyO
Oh man, I sure as hell hope he doesn’t plan on an all under 20 team.
That would be more than bad!
Bwahahahaha
James
I think smith is also blocking on the left side…where the majority of our young d depth is.
Damn you guys are really manic today!
We will never be rebuilt until we get some “A” players on this team. We don’t have any… But I’m patient, I’ve waited since 2004 for Sather to drop dead.
“The core of the next team is,
Kravtsov, Chytil,Andersson, Howden, Miller, Hajek, Lindgren, Nils, and Shestorkin. Plus this years first rounder.”
Its worth saying that if all goes according to plan, this year’s first rounder will be the best player on that list.
299 bottles of beer on the wall,
299 bottles of beer!
SN – So if we finish with the worst overall record…we should be prepared to get the 3rd pick in the draft. Because the hockey gods hate the Rangers AND the Senators.
Leonidas would be proud!
Geez relax boys. Go peep the last comment in the thread before the last ‘go time’ post.
Rangers are trying to keep fans aboard with the process. I think chytil’s going down. I think all this is the precursor to it. When Quinn says he needs to get chytil more time one way or another. That means if I can’t give him enough ice in situations I think he’ll be able to happen, im gonna send him down to play. I think unless his next 3-4 games are really strong, he goes down before he plays his 10th game of the year
Probably a goner by plane taking off for West Coast swing in a week.
Some of these Vets are a bad influence on the yootes. When one of these is fingered, he must be jettisoned soon, one way or another.
Everyone leaving work now and they don’t want to play hockey words on their free time. 🙂
So long as every player gets their turn on the healthy scratch train, I’m fine with it being Buch this time.
The only factor to me is if he was dogging it in practice. Obviously I can’t see how the guys practice.
Only X factor
Coos
Exactly. Happy to waste “company” time, but not their own!
😉
eddie – just came across a TriBeCa penthouse, 14 rooms, 12 baths, indoor pool, 24 hour free limo service, movie theater in building, $550 per month.
Sather = Hamstrung!
Was just catching up on today’s comments. So from what I’m hearing it’s doom, gloom, gloom, doom, woulda, coulda, shoulda, argh, yada ,yada, blah, blah…got it! 😉
Kooz – I’m offering $400. Expecting to settle at $475. Thanks for the tip. It’s still more than I think it’s worth but that’s me….
Kooz said fingered
Dan – I’m not gloom and doom. I’m predicting we squeeze in a wild card….
The mix of forwards on this team will get us to playoff elimination sometime in February.
This is a total rebuild. Any other term for it is bull spit.
Quinn may never see a playoff game during his stewardship.
E3, I’m predicting a cup win this year!! 😉
In all seriousness I’m wondering if Quinn is simply seeing what he has to work with. It’s only 5 games. We’ve seen several times him sitting various guys already and mixing line combos. Although on the other hand it would be strange if he does sit buch for mcloud.
Other thanHank, he has not much to work with, Dan.
Other than the rookies this cotton candy crew is basically the left overs of a highly successful failed cup run! See what I did there?
Brian Heyman
@bheyman99
David Quinn on Filip Chytil’s move from 4th line C to top 9 LW: “I think it’ll help his development.” Chytil said he has played there in international play and the Czech League and is “comfortable.” #rangers #nyr #NHL
David Quinn said a decision on whether to sit Pavel Buchnevich against Colorado will be made tomorrow. But Buchnevich rotated with the fourth line today. Quinn said he’s looking for “consistent effort.”
Brian Heyman
@bheyman99
David Quinn said D Neal Pionk will return to the lineup tomorrow night after being scratched for the last two games.
Hank’s window is closed. The shutters are nailed shut, the screens are pulled down, the shade is drawn, the inside is boarded up, the curtains are pulled together, all the lights are off, the room is empty, half the floor is missing and Sather is asleep on the couch.
True papa.
Slatsko hahaha!!
Dan – Rangers in 6 over the Preds.
Captain Avery (signed after announcing his comeback) come get the Stanley Cup!!!
Rangers 5
Avs 0
Gwg Dennis Weaver
Hank will have more assists this year than GMEN have wins. 1-15. GGGGGGGMEN
I’ll drink to that E3 seunf how uou aready have 🤤
Hank’s window is really really wide. Don’t be neggy – pozy pozy pozy.
Let’s try that again “I’ll drink to that E3 seeing how you aready have 🤤”
St Pete – Cheers
St Pete – and in the end, the love you make is equal to the love…..you take….
Their lack of defensive forwards is quite noticeable with the who plays top of the box in the pk.
.
DQ wants to see Butch with more effort, hmmm…how do you say ‘head case’ in Russian?
Effit is a must if you hope to win
The Sens sure reached taking that Tkachuk kid. Should have taken Jesus Wahlstrom instead. How’s Casey Gretzky doing?
Tkachuk has bust written all over him………would love to see someone write an article following up on each draft pick with a “where are they now?” kind of slant….
I have to apologize because I’ve been going about this all wrong. The reality of the situation is if we could just swing some deals to get ride of Hayes Zibanejad Staal Fast Smith Shatty Buchnevich Zucc Chytil Pionk Kreider Spooner Namestnikov and Hank we’ll be right back in this thing!
Tkachuk getting new parts for his head last night.
That’s the most interesting concussion protocol I’ve ever witnessed Booby
James,
You don’t seem to doing so well with this whole rebuild thing. There is a bunch more losing coming this way, and quite a few more trades before the winning starts again. Expect a draft pick or two to bust, and one or two to surprise. Some UFAs will sign. History tells us that most of them will not be worth it, but it only takes one to change things quickly. Sit back and enjoy the ride getting there. It will be bumpy.
8th in Metro – where is Eric?
Detroit v NYR will be a race to the bottom on the EC and the Red Wings maybe worse. Original 6!
.
Sens still have Duschene, Stone and Ryan; picked up Tierney and DeMelo in Karlsson deal in addition to R1 draftee Man-child Tkachuk.
Leading scorer D-man, Chabot, was taken 18 in ’15 R1; 21 yo. Their other young Dman,Lajoie, was taken in R5 of ’16; 20 yo.
.
When you draft well, easy to bring up new talent. NYR has ‘Off the Boardie’ Gordie.
SN,
The Sens are finding reasons to play the young players. Right now, the Rangers are finding reasons not to play the young guys.
Sens wish they didn’t have Ryan! They are not in good shape as an organization and fast forward to next year when their “best” forward is likely Tkachuk and Colorado has Hughes!
Pete – they have young talent which they play and draft well. They have some bad contracts, but so does every team. Their Defense right now has a collective Cap hit of $6.15M with Ceci on IR.
Funny how Habs were another team that was falling off a cliff and somehow was able to trade for 2 young pivots; Domi and Druin, both 23 yo, along with another young center, 18 yo ’18 R1 #3 pick Kotkaniemi.
If we can’t enjoy the rebuild we may as well laugh at Shampoo Boy…
https://www.instagram.com/p/BoxHQ9AAoF9/?utm_source=ig_share_sheet&igshid=er63t8z4vhl0
You have to be willing to do some stuff SN. You can’t GM scared, and sometimes you have to make tough decisions about your young NHL players. I don’t know if Domi is a better player than Galchenyuk, but the Habs realized going forward with Galchenyuk was not something they wanted to do. They gambled on talent with Druin.
Shampoo boys contract was the beginning of the fall
1-4 record.
Hey Quinn and Gorton. If you wont play Tony D with a 1-4 record over Staal, Shatty, Smith or McQuade, get rid of him or resign.
Staal is not one of the kids who can be expected to improve and learn as he goes along. Many boneheads are finally ready to admit what was obvious for seasons.
Bdl well said at 9:10. As for me I’m doing just fine with the rebuild. Trust me. What Irks me isn’t the idea of losing games or dealing players at some point. I just don’t think theres much patience or rational approach by some of the team’s fan base
Boy, Mr injury bug sure is buzzing around the NHL early this season. Every time I look there’s another notable player that’s out for months.
If that bug makes it into NYC we may see more than just Lias up with the big club
Bring back Glass and The Undertaker and kick some azz while the kids learn.
@Slatsko: I thought Sather was in the room to help Hank count his greenbacks?
It would be an interesting exercise (and time consuming) to take each active roster + IR at game 40 and count how many players were 1sts, 2nds, etc.
Are other team’s boards as bipolar/manic as RR2? Is the ice really greener on the other side?
Mr Injury Bug hopefully provides an opportunity to move some vets off the back line.
When is Gorton calling Dubas for Nylander?
Who are you willing to give up, BobbyO?
Skjej and Ziba
LOL
Center and defensemen both cost controlled
So I’m on Chincoteague island catching up with my mom for a day and I just saw the us coast guard playing deck hockey on their tennis courts. Reminds me of being a kid
SN, don’t know about Ottowa’s young D but don’t think they have a ton of forward talent coming up and they like lose Duchene and stone this offseaosn unless they overpay. I wouldn’t change places with them that’s for sure.
i don’t think that would be nearly enough. Just because Gorton decided to pay Skjei as if he was one doesn’t mean he is one. and Zibanejad….
Zibanejad has an interesting range of view around here. It ranges from “injury prone trash” to “pp specialist” to top center if we are talking about a trade.
Ottawa should clean house from the front office on up and salvage what they can before it’s too late.
Find a way to keep Duchene, pay Stone, trade Anderson to a contender and play Tkachuk wisely and things aren’t as bleak as they will be with the current management at the helm
Can the Rangers get Carey back after the housecleaning? Can never have too many governors.
If we do manage to trade for nylander maybe straka’s kid and…well Jagr himself will want to come here and recreate some magic. Does Peter Sykora have any children playing hockey? Marek Malik?
Toronto is in win now mode that needs to improve defense..plus they are going to be in cap hell after paying Matthews and Mariner plus Teveres..:cost controlled contracts for young players may be attractive to them
Sorry, PetR*
I reach a point in my career when I finally realized I could no longer do my job to the high standard required in my profession. I stepped back to a long look and decided to retire. It wasn’t about the money or blocking someone else from filling my extremely talented shoes. I just didn’t have anymore and I was doing more harm than good.
WAKE UP STAAL!
NEW POST
rre 11:44 – Sign Huey Long and Jim McGreevey.
McGreevey would be a queer signing.
I’m thinking after tonight we will be 1-5!
