I reach a point in my career when I finally realized I could no longer do my job to the high standard required in my profession. I stepped back to a long look and decided to retire. It wasn’t about the money or blocking someone else from filling my extremely talented shoes. I just didn’t have anymore and I was doing more harm than good.

I think Toronto would have interest in Skjei, but I doubt they would have interest in Zibanejad. They are pretty set down the middle. Maybe Skjei, and Buchnevich?
Maybe BDL thought Zibanejad more value as a young center and proven commodity …zibanajad had 7 more goals than Nylander last year in less games

Agree with the Toronto in win now mode due to upcoming cap issues. Not just with forwards but their d as well.

I’m just giving some grief to the “full rebuild” crowd. Gorton has used that term less than he’s used retool or rebuild on the fly and it amuses me greatly. They act like this is a long draw out 5 year process or something.
I think if the opportunity for Gorton to acquire nhl experienced talent in the right deal (be it free agency or trade) and for this organization to add what is needed to be all in for playoffs (especially with hank still here), he’ll do it in a heart beat whether it’s tomorrow or next summer.
That’s the beauty of him never saying with consistency what the organizational course is and the “letter” allowing the public flexibility to deviate without fan backlash.
The situation is fluid and will continue to be.
Well, for his sake, Gorton can’t use Rebuild because he helped build it. Not sure what you call a perennial playoff team and Cup Contender that will go through multiple years of suckitude prior to getting back to that level.
Some people use rebuild, like DQ does, because he wasn’t here and others use retool, like Gorton, because he has been here the whole time.

The reality is this is not going to be a fast turnaround, what Boston did is comparing apples and hand grenades with the situation of this current roster. Hope it goes quicker, but don’t think it will. This season will be bottom.

Signing Shatty and Smith was a hope for a retool but the brass has fugged up assessing their back line which is ultimately what lead them to this mess; trading picks or acquiring PP specialists, signing incumbents to stupid untradeable deals.

The seasons ticket holders I know could care less about the letter. People who have the discretionary bucks, which there are many in this town, will continue to shell it out to see NYR in the lower bowls. They may look to get rid of secondary games or even not attend, particularly if things go south after the new year.

In the upper sections, the annual price increases will squeeze those fans and it will be felt next season more than this one as some believe that watching Zucc and Henk live is worth $180/ticket bu tunable to get rid of their tix on the secondary market will be unwilling to shell out for a full season.

To note, seats are being sold on Groupon now for a 35% discount for ‘secondary’ November games; that started 2 weeks ago.
