Rangers 2, PuddyCats 3

The Rangers were in Sunshine Florida for a tilt against the Panthers last night in what was announced to be Jonathan Quick’s final NHL game. Unfortunately, Quick and the Rangers were unable to get the win and push him to 411 regular season victories to add to his 49 post season wins.

The Rangers were down 2-0 midway through the first period, goals given up to Reinhardt (7) and Samoskevich (12) at 09:35 and 11:31. The Samoskevich goal was an unfortunate breakaway off a blocked Schneider shot (who almost but not quite got back in time). However, Rangers woke up a bit with Robertson (6) wristing a shot through traffic at 15:19 for a goal, Laba (15) with the assist. 2-1 FLA after one period of play.

The only goal of the second period was by Perreault (11), who once again put himself in the correct spot at the right moment to deflect a blocker rebound of a Fox (44) shot; Lafreniere (32) also credited with a secondary assist. Two all after two!

The Rangers did push in the third in an attempt to get another goal for Quick, putting up 13 shots in the period, equal to the first two periods combined, to Florida’s four. Reinhardt (8) would spoil the show again for Quick at 18:10 and the Rangers unable to do much of anything 6-5. So it would end, FLA 3 NYR 2 and the curtain closed on Jonathan Quick’s hall of fame career.

In NHL news last night – the Filth won in the shootout to secure third in the Metro division while simultaneously ending WAS, DET and CBJ seasons. This sets up a first round all-Pennsyltucky matchup between the Pens and the Flyers.

The Western conference playoff teams are decided but the seeding is not – three teams have two games remaining so should be some exciting hockey the next few nights out there. Calgary has two games remaining – a win in either would lock up the #3 spot in the upcoming draft for the Rangers.

Game summary below:

And thus we reach the final game of the regular and 25/26 NHL season for the NY Rangers, Wednesday 15 April at 19:00 EDT against the TBL in Tampa.

Think Samoskevich is RFA and would be good target for Rangers…he could move into top 6 role and Cats are up against cap.

Think Dorofeyev is a better target, for the same reason, but I can’t wait to get behind going after Samoscevch.

It’s ironic that I live in St Pete and will be unable to view the Ranger game due to blackout restrictions. Of course I could go to the game but I have prior commitments.

Pit-Filth. The only consolation is one is sure to go out in the first round.

Did the Rangers even interview Muse or was Drury locked on to Sully immediately?

  10. St Pete Avatar

When are we going get it Drury is butt stupid! I have been saying it forever! I was pleading for Muse, and I’m just the Minx!

Is Muse a better coach than Sullivan because he made the playoffs …Sullivan has 2 cups and a gold medal

BobbyO and Carey, are you suggesting offer sheeting Dorofeyev and/or Samoskevich? It looks like they have to go above $4.7m and can only go up to $7m (or, I suppose, between $1.5 and $2.3) given the absence of their 2nd round pick next year if I understand the rules properly. Do you think that does it for Dorofeyev (I suspect it does for Samoskevich)? If they can pull something like that off, they should be able to backfill some of the lost early round picks in ’27 through trading Schneider and/or Trocheck et al. (and might modify what they seek to get for them). Interesting.

I think they go after one BW –as noted they can secure more picks if they move Trocheck and/or Schneider. has to be an RFA where team is up against cap

You’re assuming once again I suggested something I didn’t. I said I wanted Muse as the next coach. not another coach from the good old boys club. Sullivan won 2 cups with the 2 best centers on the same team in the past 20 years. He won gold because of an amazing effort and some puck luck from Hellebuyck. Do I think Muse is a better coach than Sully? I do not know. The pens are in, last year they were out.

Until proven otherwise, you are correct. I just happen to think it’s time to weaponize their cap space, and resources.

I think Minx has a valid point. Drury was so locked on Sullivan he didn’t consider any alternatives, certainly nothing of note in the press. Also seemed the hire had as much to do about Drury’s personal relationship with Sully as his long ago cup wins (with the elite trifecta in their prime).

Sully and his beantown brethren were in Dreary’s sights from the beginning. Mission accomplished with a championship this season; for Team USA that is.

For what it’s worth I think the Rangers during this off season should trade the tradeable…those that should be traded…and stay away from FA’s and RFA offer sheets. Can they please just try developing their own talent and make some good selections in the upcoming draft? Please!!!!

Haha well the Avalanche had already clinched the President’s Trophy and played their entire roster against the flames tonight. Makar skated 25:35. Who knows what the Bolts will do 😁

JT Miller gave Mike Sullivan the line of the night as the Rangers bench sat through a 7-1 pounding and Tom Wilson came looking for noise.

Per Ray Ferraro, Wilson barked toward the New York bench late in the third period: “Who’s chirping?”
Miller stood up and ended it in one shot. “It’s 7-1. Nobody’s chirping anybody.” That line landed because it cut through the whole mess. The game was gone, the bench knew it, and Miller didn’t bother dressing it up.

Ruebenstien did not watch Barnhill plat at all. I won’t go in to the whole thing. The one glaring mistake made in the article is saying Barnhill did not play special teams. Barnhill was a regular on the PK.

They will want to “finish strong” and go into the playoffs “on a positive”. They’ll want to establish that winning [ahem] “culture” early.

Should the Rangers be worried about EJ Emery signing? Why or why not?

E.J. Emery (first round): Stock Down
Emery remains one of the biggest question marks in the Rangers’ system because the tools are there, but the results still aren’t.

Mika had a great season from Nov onward. Was the real leader of the team while JTM was MIA on and off the ice. Special props for elevating Laffy and Purro’s games in last stretch. Plays in all situation; point per game on a bad team.

contract is more movable if they want to; I would as he will not be wearing a blue sweater when this team is ready to make noise in second season again.

which results not there – if drafted as a stay at home dman is he not successfully defending well at the ncaa level? that would indeed be a worry – is he supposed to developed better playing at ND for his junior year, or ?

Mika honors are well deserved this season

Hopefully he learned how to prepare in the offseason and will continue his newly found stellar play after disappointing the year prior

Post Olympics this team has me much more hopeful moving forward

    Chemlar such a pleasant surprise.
Puck protection, board play, hands for a big man, effort and some finish

He’s still developing too! He hasn’t yet peaked and I can definitely see him as a solid 3rd line winger

We aren’t as far away as our record would indicate

    Healthy Shesty and fox

Solid d corps. Need to add a left D unless we think Fortescue ready full time next year

Need to add a speedy hard nosed winger and center-man

I like Sykora but he’s probably AHL bound on a good team

  48. BobbyO Avatar
    BobbyO

some hope but top 6 still needs work. Hopefully top 2 pick/stud and another forward via trade/RFA/UFA

  49. Corporal Clegg Avatar
    Corporal Clegg

Do you think Greentree is gonna push for a roster spot next year? Or need AHL at least first half of season?

  50. Corporal Clegg Avatar
    Corporal Clegg

Need to replace Sheary that is for sure even though he’s been playing well lately. We need more from someone taking his minutes

Perrault Mika Laffy line I don’t think you want to break that up. It’s been impressive

No AHL time yet…guessing he would start next season in Hartford…like Gabe

Replace Sheary Brodude and probably Sykora

If you do anything with right D maybe upgrade Borgen or trade him for a decent Left D and see what Oreo can do on the right (I liked what I saw so far from him)

    Get rid of Vak9

Not sure about the future of Morrow. He has the skill set but his decision making may never be NHL caliber so gotta plan to have other depth
