Last night at MSG, the Rangers lost to another team with ‘ucks’ in their name. It is sometimes hard to wonder if the NYR actually give a ‘uck’. This was a bad one – and not just because Vancouver has the lowest P% in the league. But if there is one positive, the NYR moved up the draft board standings to #10.
Your Vancouver scoring, brought to you by Tim Horton’s or some other friendly Canadian outfit:
1st/ E. Kane (6) at 01:46 Boser (8), Pettersson (4) assisted
2nd/ L. Ohgren (1) at 03:24 Karlsson (6) assisted
3rd/ C. Garland (7) at 16:52, SHG/EN Hronek (15) assisted.
In better news, expect a mix of sun and clouds but breezy across the north east today.
Game summary below:

The Rangers next game is away vs the St. Louis Blues, Thursday evening 18 December at 20:00 EST. Telecast by MSG and FDSNMW.

Beez – uck is the word of the day- prior to this game they were top the bottom third of the league with lots of teams struggling now, most of the usual suspects. Losing to the teams below you only reinforces the fact that this team is not a playoff contender right now and closer to a top 5 pick than a wild card entry
The tone of the game was set by the linesman’s pick; not sure I have ever seen that one a play with so much open ice; just strange and more bad juju
Zbag is back in his shell as Uncle Sully (urged on by Dreary) made sure to smack him in the nose with a newspaper and prevent him playing against his two former fellow captains.
Good news;
Laba is a 200 ft playing 2 way center who is only going to get better.
Robertson may be their 2nd best Offensive Dman after Fox; kid can skate and get his shot off to the net.
Bad news: too long to write…
Two of my favorite teams are NY Rangers and NY Giants. It goes without saying that it has been difficult watching both for a while. Last night I watched most of the game and was particularly interested in keeping a close eye on Lafrenier. I watched him on almost every shift and as all of you have said there is a whole lot of nothing there. I do not remember in all of my years of watching this team seeing a player that just went from being pretty good to crap so fast. The only guy who comes even close is Don Murdoch; and his problem was his love of NYC nightlife in the 80’s.
Beside’s Laffy problems the rest of this team is almost unwatchable. The only way to make a change is the fans have to stop going to the Garden and also the GM has to go. I really don’t think those things will happen. Too bad. We deserve better.
Apparently this is the Valley Kat quote:
Valley was the only thing good last night
That was AV, right? Must be an old quote ๐คฃ
Did not watch the game and don’t plan are watching to many the rest of the season. I knew this team sucked after watching them for the 1st few weeks. This team is awful and have no top talent. The rangers should be sellers even if there in a borderline playoff which I doubt they will be. There is no immediate fix so sell and get as much assets as possible. The only players in my opinion worth keeping for the forwards are Cuylle and Laba and obviously on defense Gavrikov and schneider, everybody else if you can get assets for should be dealt either at the deadline or in the off season. The problem is I don’t trust drury so he should be fired and bring in a competent GM. I know being a ranger fan this is a pipe dream but that’s the only way unless you want to watch mediocrity for a long time.
GGMM actually had a pretty critical game review today. If you’re getting GGMM ticked off things must be pretty putrid!
I forgot, robertson on defense I would keep also.
โItโs my 10th season now,โ Zibanejad said in his first interview since. โI know what the challenges are and whatnot, but an unfortunate situation. I got stuck. We got stuck behind an accident. Iโm just hoping everyone in that accident was fine. Rules are rules and I was late. Thereโs not much else to say honestly. Thatโs the reasoning why I was late.โ
Someone needs to offer a 1st rd pick for too 6 sherry
Otherwise uncle Mike wonโt part ways
Robertson been a bit of a surprise but still think need to see at end of season how it looks with the bigger sample size.
I don’t know what to say about Vaakanainen. What was the point of getting him? As to Morrow – I’m not really seeing it with him, at least not yet. I’d send him down and get him some serious minutes in Hartford.
I did not watch last nights game but it appears that Zbag is sulking again. He sould be the 1st one jettisoned I’m sick of his nonsense but it doesn’t surprise me he is a soft lame cry baby of a hockey player.
So I guess my list of keepers
For sure: Cuylle, Laba, Carrick, Schneider, Gavrikov
Probably: Trocheck (hoping he slides to 3C), Borgen, Robertson
Why not if nothing better: Edstrom, Rempe, Soucy
We are stuck with Igor, as moody and inconsistent as he is, though end of day most nights its not him losing the game as much as him not winning it.
Likewise Miller, Mika and for another year Fox, unless he waives – which I think he might do if asked nicely. I actually think Mika would waive for a move to a legit contender. Maybe an injury opens up that door?
If they moved Fox (and hopefully got back a decent center) you could have:
Gavrikov/Schneider
Soucy/Robertson
third pair…one of Morrow/Vaaka9n and one new.
I did not mention Igor for obvious reasons. That contract plus he is a goalie you would not be able to trade him so where stuck with a over paid overrated goalie. I don’t have a problem keeping Carrick, he has been a good ranger and soldier for the money he makes he is a keeper.
Not a rempe fan, to me he is a glorified AHL goon who can’t skate, can’t fight and has no offensive ability, useless, just taking up a roster spot.
Uncle Sully has never been stuck on the Van Wyk
I also know Miller isn’t going anywhere with his age and contract where stuck with him.
Gound Hog Day at MSG. SSDD
Drury is architect of this mess
Although Iโd actually laugh if he got to fire another coach
This is what a real #1OA pick looks like:
Yup. Can no longer just blame a coach
This is a GM / president mess
Laba
Cuylle
Gavrikov
Schneider
Morrow
Robertson
Really the only players worth keeping that are on the Varsity.
Morrow – TBD; if able to get rid of Fox contract, keep as less capable PP1 QB, but noticed he can’t really skate well. Decent lateral movement but no second gear.
Not morrow Eli
Morrow also still having some trouble with think speed and decision making. But, work in progress. Hoping he develops quite a bit more
I still find it hard to believe that Fox is the only defenseman in the system capable of gracing the PP1 unit according to our coaches
Donโt blame them for trying out the 5 fwd. but enough already. It doesnโt work
Or do they not want Schneider manning the pp cause if he succeeds than his contract demands will be higher?
Beez on a roll. Like ham and cheese.
Trochek is center with term and some jam ..they should be listening to offers
How many points does Schneider get through from the point? Does he take slap shots? Robertson or Morrow make more sense on PP
Soucy will have value at deadline also
If Mika would have waived he would have been traded last year. Probably instead of a certain injured veteran. And now that he’s still on the team after seeing how happy his other buds are out of town, I expect it is still out of Drury’s hands much though we may wish otherwise. Mika, Miller, Igor, Drury, Sully all here to stay! Probably Foxyclean too though doubtful that move was considered either
I remember watching Robertson in some Hartford games the past few seasons and thinking he wasn’t going to be anything more than an AHL Dman. I love when he is on the ice. He has improved greatly.
Too much dead weight on the team now.
Also I think Quick, while still fairly good, is in his final season.
And I am agreeing now with those who say Rempe isn’t anything special anymore. He used to bring speed and hitting, now he does nothing. Like Raddysh.
Soucy won’t get much as a deadline rental. His play has been OK enough that a two year deal at $3-3.5 would fit and keep stability on the back end.
Schneider has a fairly good shot but does not use it enough. He’s also shown the ability to rotate down low when the opportunity presents itself. The only reason I see not to give him a try at point is to keep him and Gavrikov ready to go at the end of the PP. Of course, that might not be an issue if PP#1 only took half the time instead of 90% of the 2 mins. File under stale Bread.
Ham and beez on a roll with jam. It must be lunchtime.
Rempe, Edstrom even Carrick are 4th liners. Last thing to focus on. Kind of like focusing on what wax to use on your car while it is sitting on blocks without an engine or tranny.
wwpd – agree on Quick, last year. Even if a kid backup isn’t quite as good initially, you need to get younger there too.
That was Calhob but I agree on Quick too!
Perreault the new shiny toys type up
So is Othmann the old shiny toy
Berard and chemelar sent down
If Quick’s daughter, Beri, married Bruce Lee, she’d be Beri Quick Lee and go from being an adjective to being an adverbial phrase.
Soucy will get at least a 3rd rounder
A later 3rd rd than we gave up since weโll be closer to a second rd
Maybe Perrault can lift the puck during..show them how to finish and give Othman a stretch of games already
Weโll see ..teams overpay for physical DMen at deadline โฆand this draft is deeper

Ugh!
Soucy Q should get Norris consideration for being +8 on this dumpster fire
Agree that this will be Quik’s last season. I think he can still play, but why would he want to stay?
Players I would keep: Gavrikov, Fox, Schneider, Cuylle, Laba, Robertson. Defense really hasn’t been the problem, it’s the top 6 forwards.
Maybe Keep unless they get good offer: Trochek, Soucy, Borgen, Morrow (AHL to develop), Bedard(AHL to develop).
Players I would waive, if I can’t find a trade partner: Panarin, Laffy, Zbad, Miller, Igor, Sherry, – These are the real problems on the team. Unfortunately, most are fully protected from trades or waivers, but you can still threaten to permanently bench them, until they agree to waive NMC. If I was Ranger GM, this team would be all young Wolfpack players playing, thus insuring full tank mode to optimize draft capital.
If I was Sully, all the forwards would be having contest in practice to shoot bar down. If they don’t hit the inside top cross bar, they do suicides from goal line to goal line. They need to learn how to shoot top shelf against goalies.
Mkh
Canโt have fans paying high end nhl prices
To see the Wolfpack
Mkh nice vibes, Bread and Buston can be gone, though can’t waive JT until 2027, Mika until 2029, and Eyegor until infinity.
Oh sorry Mika until a week before the trade deadline in 2030, which is already the last year of his contract. so, humbug.
I may not be a nhl or even ahl-quality GM but I know a quagmire when I see one.
The funny thing if they won the last 2 games they would be in playoff position because the East is full clusterfugg, notwithstanding extra games played
there is no reason this team should not be in playoff position… no reasonable explanation why they can score on the road but not at home….other than that they are mentally soft …especially their top forwards
I always use P%. Right now the line is 0.578 or 95 pts which is fairly normal. Rangers need to be 0.627 rest of way to get that
the Rangers are next to last place in the conference in P% – not even bubble worthy!
Mentally soft? More like physically soft. JTM is the only hitter in the top 6, donโt count Troโs bumps. They are mostly dancers out there with Laughy doing figure 8s.
Lava has made Tro expendable. I know he is a little try hard who plays โtoughโ except he really doesnโt and has hands of stone. Him on PP1 is egregious.
Trocheck incredibly overrated by the fan base. Also a big part in what happened last year. Donโt ask me how I know, I just do.
I know heโs been a little quiet and coming up short in the goal scoring, but Conor Sheary is getting ready to go on a goal scoring binge. Donโt let his 1 goal in the last 20 months fool you. Uncle Mike has all the confidence that he will come through.
I wish I had something to add. I just haven’t been excited for the past 2 years. I don’t even enjoy Maloney and Albert, they put me to sleep.
SN…don’t disagree with them being physically soft but that doesn’t explain why they can score on road but not at home.. I think they should consider Tro trade because he’s 32 and a center that will have value but that probably means slow/Miller and soft/Meeka in the middle with Laba
But they do lead the league in hits according to NHL. Gotta love that stat.
Asking for a friend. When do they stop with the 5 forwards on PP;when Fox comes back?
Another road game where 3rd and 4th lines will most likely score and goalie will keep it close. New kids on the block tonight. OK
Will they ever make No.13 a healthy scratch for a few games? He is less then useless.
Almost forgot. LGR
I would think leading the league in hits usually means you don’t have the puck.
After the holidays Drury should start moving people. Knicks got their participation trophy in Vegas. Dolan won’t notice what he is doing. K
Agree on trades, sooner the better
Have been a Trocheck fan but agree that it may be time to recoup something for him
Never liked him on PP
Great on faceoffs but heโs not being utilized as much for those depending on which dot now that miller here
The magic he had with bread seems to have dried up
Trocheck looking more like a higher paid brodude at this point
More often than not Drury has always waited to long to make the necessary moves.
Trocheck starting to look like Jim Croce. Don’t mess around with Jim any longer. He’s served his purpose. Useful for his time.. (and he’s not the only one).
Whose “brain” child is this 5fwd power play with ๐ making “creative” plays along the blue line? At this point they should be more focused on defending against SHGs than trying to score on the power play.
Wild how things change.
You can make book on Dreary making some quick, radical and effective changes in his Pizza business were he to be confronted with serious competition and was losing business.
Adam Fox is on the ice for #NYR morning skate in a red non-contact jersey
If they had only asked EV first!
Mollie with some news:
Better
But still with Sheary the human Turnover
Where is bread on those pp lines??
No Bread on PP?
Is Mollie drinking or Sully?
Maybe bread took off the morning skate for maintenance or something and morrow is the placeholder getting reps
Panarin sick.
Flu going through whole squad would be the next chapter in this mess of as season .. the linesmen that checked Robertson the other night for the Canuck goal probably had it and started spread
You would think they would encourage these guys to get seasonal flu shots….
Mollie suggesting that Mothman will be on 4th with Carrick and Rempe.
couple people at work have bad flu…and had flu shots
Not only should LaFailure not be on the 1st PP, he shouldn’t even be close to playing on the first line. What is quite evident is that there is absolutely no facet of his game (none, zilcho) that is impactful, at all, even when he somehow magically gets a star. Bench him!
This team would obviously be lost without Conor Sheary. He is the heart and soul of the clown show.
Flu shots help you fight it
Not necessarily prevent it
The youth go to die on the 4th line. Nothing changes.would expect nothing less.
I haven’t had a flu shot since 2020. Haven’t had the flu yet. Before that every year I got the shot I got the flu.
Sullivan on Perreault:
“We just want to see where his game is at, and we’re trying to put him in a position to succeed. The last time that we called him up, we put him in the top six with our top players [Zibanejad and Miller]. The challenge with that is, is you’re playing against opponent’s top players also. You’re getting the top defense pair, you’re playing against some of the harder players to play against when you’re in that situation. It’s a little bit of a double edged sword from that standpoint. We’re excited about Gabe’s game and where it can go. We also recognize that this is a process in allowing a young player to get there…We don’t want young players like Gabe to get overwhelmed.”
Mothmann:
“Slowly started to crawl my way out of it. You know, it happens with pro hockey. I guess, the last I don’t know 2-3 weeks, it’s kind of been trending upwards. It’s alway a positive sign. That’s kind of relaying to my game right now. I feel like I’ve been playing pretty good hockey in Hartford and getting good feedback from the top of the organization down to the bottom.”
Who’s the ‘bottom’? I want his name and I want it NOW!
Scruffy
OK – I’ve made the effort to write a Go Time. Will the Rangers make an effort to show up for the game? 19:50, be there!
Minx I started getting sick much less often after I started wearing a hat in the winter time. Keeps the follicly challenged warm you know!
