It’s Go Time!

MSG Blue lights

The Rangers return home to MSG for a tilt tonight against Les Habs. This will be an interesting game for the team – they laid a very big egg last game against Chicago and erased a lot of good feelings. Can they get their mojo back along with some positive cheers at MSG?

They’ll have their work cut out for them. Montreal is not a pushover anymore and enter this game 6-4-0 of their last ten compared to NYR 5-3-2. Granted, a few of those wins were S/O wins and some of the Ranger loses were in OT but Les Habs are a quick and feisty team, including the #5 PP unit.

Expected in goal tonight are Shesterkin (12-10-3, 2.48 GAA, 0.912 SV%) and Fowler (1-0-0, 2.00 GAA, 0.947 SV%). Fowler was recalled from Laval on Tuesday and beat PIT 4-2 with 36 saves. Montreal has a long list of injuries: Kirby Dach (broken foot), Alex Newhook (broken ankle), Kaiden Guhle (lower body), Patrik Laine (lower body) but continue in next man up mode.

The Rangers have a few lineup changes tonight. Brodzinski and Morrow are both Prucha’d, meaning Raddysh back in on the fourth line and Vaakanainen on the third pair. Rempe is getting closer to action, full participation in praccy on Friday and skated this morning.

The refs tonight are Kyle Rehman (1113 GP) and Corey Syvret (406 GP). Both call it down the middle.

Keys to a Ranger victory: Don’t get in the box, Montreal has too good a PP.

On this date in history: In 1992, the Rangers beat the Canadiens, 10-5, at MSG. This was the first time the NYR scored double-digit goals against Montreal since joining the NHL in 1926, a span of 535.

Speculative NYR lineup:

I wasn’t joking about Shasty – he became a liability for this team at the moment of signing this tremendous contract, which prohibited to esquire some of desperately needed bona fide players when they were potentially availably on the market. Now his game, besides some random splashes of excellence is quite mediocre and far from consistence and reliability and as such, could be done by any much less heralded and expensive goalie.

Craig – 95% of the players in the NHL are better than Frenchie. Laffy is an AHL player who gets to play in the NHL only because he was a 1OA pick. Remember when Bobby Rousseau played for Rangers. Very fast and they had hin quarterback the powerplay;which he was very good at. Big difference between 72 and 79 Rangers was 72 team was GAG line’s team and 79 had Esposito imprint on it. Also 72 goalies were much better then JD.
Have watched games on film from 79 and cannot believe how JD got us as far as he did.
One thing you guys who were not there have to remember is how great our opponent’s were in both series. Always remember Capt Dave talking about how many Canadiens he played against in 79 wound up in Hall of Fame. Also 72 Bruins had some very good players who were not named Orr. That being said thank God for Richter,Leetch Messier and the rest of the 94 team who made a dream come through for a lot of us who were lucky enough to have been there.
Like most of you I have not much faith in this group. Only new ownership will change and I do not see that happening for a while. Oh well. At least we have Monday night to look forward to. What is the over and under for how many goals Kreider will score. I hope he gets at least 2 and we still win the game.
