Rangers 2, Columbus 1 (SO)

The Rangers endured a squeaker last night over the Blue Jackets, winning in OT/SO on JT Miller’s nasty snap shot. Initially, it looked like the Rangers might put up another four or more goals, they were getting that many chances while at the same time keeping CBJ in check. But it took until 05:42 of the second for the NYR to break through with a PPG goal by Zibanejad (6) putting in his own rebound from the doorstep. CBJ would return the favor 10 minutes later at 15:20 when Voronkov (7) woute tie the game at one with a PPG. And that was it for regulation scoring. Notable in the game was a fight between Carrick and Olivier just after the goal. Olivier had been taking some liberties with NYR players and Carrick stepped up to change the momentum…never mind going against one of the league tough guys. Sam I Am held his own quite well!

Scoring details below:

The Rangers return home for a Sunday evening match against the Red Wings at 19:00 EST, MSG, FDSNDET and NHLN with coverage.

Watched the 1st 2 periods. I gotta say, carrick is one tough dude because the guy he fought is probably best fighter in the league and carrick went toe to toe and held his own until he the right to the jaw. Oliver is the same guy who lit up and rearranged rempe’s face. Good pickup by drury.

That was a great game to watch. Felt like a playoff game. Carrick has solid brass onions. I thought he was winning that fight until that last right dropped him. Absolutely held his own.
Overall Intensity from the team was there. No idea what they were doing in overtime. They just kept gaining and then leaving the offensive zone. If anyone knows what thats about please share.
Not a big fan of 23 but he made some serious plays. 13 was more engaged. This team didn’t get pushed around like has happened in previous years. Really enjoyed watching this game. Could this finally be coming together ???

This team is built to win now with average age of 30. 28-32 is prime age for prime years. Drury is going to go all in which means if rangers don’t win the cup there is going to be down years ahead.

Noah Labubu plays the game the right way and also may be the fastest skater on this team.

Fox made some good plays keeping puck in on PP. And yes, Carrick a rare signing that contributes and was not just a rental. I won’t be fully sold on Borg until we get to the spring.

Repost-I always seem to make the last Go time post.

Sheary should be displaced by a forward from the Wolfpack but Othmann and Berard are still goalless and have done very little to merit a callup. The draft picks moved for deadline rentals have depleted the prospect pool. They have to hope for low to mid round picks to pan out. Laba may work out and Roobroeck and BMB seem to be their best prospects in Hartford now. These guys have middle six ceilings. As the top six age there are no replacements in sight. Drury needs a full slate of picks and a couple of good drafts to turn the future around.

Drury has 2 number ones he can move one if they are in mix at deadline and still have one for future

We need to stop Moving R1 for 2 -3 month rentals; teams who make those moves have a solid top 6 that just need a playoff edge and not concerned about moving pick 28-32; NYR is not in that camp.

Great goal by JTM; do we cheer him when he peg legs it on the Back check or to the bench for a change every shift. Frustrating example from ‘the captain’;.

Not sure who the play by is but absolutely solid job. None of Kenny’s nasally delivery which can sound more like Charlie Browns teacher.

Dave M was about to criticize a call or lack there of last night and said he want to respond like he was on the radio and not TV.
All the evidence you need for how the announcer commentary is restricted from above; either MSG, the league or both. Thou must not criticize incompetence.

Laffy in the middle of a scrum where he is initially knocked on his arse and then face washed with little response; needs to grow a pair.

A quick Wolfpack weekend summary. They lost in 4-3 OT-again- on Friday night against Rochester. They took a 3-1 lead in the first, allowed a late PP goal to tie it and lost in OT. Hillman, Blidh(nice assist by BO) and Chmelar the scorers. They had a 2 on 1 in OT they didn’t convert and the Amerks converted on their 2-1 beating Boyko on the short side.
Lat night they lost 5-2 to Laval. They came back from a 2-0 deficit in the 3rd. Roobroeck ripped a PP one timer to tie it. They then gave up 2 PPGs and and ENG. BO was in the box for one of the PPGs. He and Berard have still not scored and take a lot of penalties. Boyko and Garand look similar to me and their numbers align. Each gave up 4 over the weekend. Boyko is a big guy which is the current trend. He’s younger so maybe his game with improve. No Spencer Martin sighting yet.
Chmelar may be auditioning to replace Rempe. He had another fight last night. It was with F. Xhekaj who got 2-5-10. I assume it was after a legal hit. He does ok with the fisticuffs and has better hockey skills that Rempe.
Fix-Wolansky is moving up among their scorers. He’s been a 60-70 point guy in the AHL for several years so he should put up numbers. He’s also 25 and has been in the league for 5 years. He had a few short stays with the Jackets and couldn’t stick. Seems to be like Marchand(a little PITA)-just with much less skill.

NYR have a tough road trip coming up. Unfortunately, the way genius Bettman made the schedule, we will need to wait until Saturnalia is over and Xmas week has started to find out the true nature of this team as that is the first extended home stretch w/ games against NSH, WSH, NYI, CAR, WAS – before we all go down to EV’s place to watch the outdoor game (rumor he even has a ledge that can be rented for a small premium)

I suspect this latest win streak is just to draw CraigW back in so they can again crush is spirits by going on a four game losing streak 🤣 Hopefully not but just being realistic, they are probably going to drop three or four of the next eight.

I guess we should expect that Borg may miss a few games?

Beezle, totally agree, it’s early yet, let’s see where this team is at in February and how there playing before I’m convinced this team is worth mortgaging more of the future.

bubble teams trading their R1s for playoff help is just mental. should be a firing offense by every team owner.

I guess I better put the plow on the truck. Glad I got the snows on last week!

Upslope snow, tough travel for some later Sunday. Roads deteriorate near the mountains Sunday evening, 1 to 2 feet of snow for summits by Monday

CraigW – please many more forecasts like this one this winter, OK?
