James there has been some discussion implying lafreniere is not as good as advertised. I’ve taken the stance that Lafreniere’s play has been severely hampered by being forced to play with Chytil.
There are players whom actually elevate the play of their line mates, and there are those who hinder their linemates. Chytil is of the latter type.

AA, I think Laffy just falls into that tricky category of better then the bottom six but not quite better then current top six.
Kreider deciding to have a career year on Zika’s left and Panarin being Panarin kind of sets it in stone for now. But yeah obviously if he played somewhere in full time top six the numbers would be higher.
You just get the “fans” that insist that he’s a number 1 pick and it means that he should be a fifty goal scorer instantly while making his linemates play amazingly as well.
Anyone that knows the difference between a puck and their anus can see he’s good and only getting better. It’s just not good enough for the people that have their own reasons to be critical. Ie- wanted a different player in the draft, always need something to gripe about etc etc

Oilers lulled them into a track meet for a while. They need to score on some of those chances. This shouldn’t be close. They will need more goals because they won’t keep McDavid and Draisaitl off the board all night.
akbar, at this point don’t think chytil should be a center for us. if he was in arizona or buffalo id let him learn the position in the top 6, but he has been miscast as a 3C his whole time here. That’s more on two different GMs and two different coaches than Chytil. So if they are gonna keep him in the lineup it should be on the wing, but that means Drury actually needs to do his job and get a real 3C.
and i’m glad Laf has put up some points tnte and hope he gets on a roll and more importantly the coach keeps him top 6 even when Panarin is back. Want the kid to succeed
Problem is, unlike Jack Hughes, barring injury there really isn’t room on the top 6 for Lafreniere. Best scenario is he replaces KREIDER at some point in a few years.

I can’t help but feel to myself that my dad somehow has a hand in all of this.
It’s just been really enjoyable season. 11-12, 14-15. 21-22.
Everyone should enjoy this season. Bc from next season on, fans and players alike are already gonna be waiting for the playoffs to gauge and see if they can take the next step. The regular season starts feeling like an ends to get to the beginning.

Oilers were better when they played the Rangers in Edmonton. They only had 12 hits in a game they trailed most of the way.
Missed the game tonight so I just finished watching it on espn+ On Demand. I think Lafreniere looks better playing with an unsustainable cast off #2C? Kreider is a beast unleashed by GG and the DJ looks more engaged, what’s up with that? I noticed one moment in the 3rd where Reaves was barreling in on McDavid in the corner and McDavid avoided him like the plague and gave up the puck. Nice to see our boys shaken up the elites?

The Edmonton post game mcdavid said he missed playing with strome…I’m speculating he meant having him in the room, I didn’t think they were linemates there.
I think at points strome played with him some but strome was struggling out there and bounced around
But I could be wrong.
Laffy with second star. You can see him really growing before our eyes. Confidence helps him make quicker decisions and he looks faster.
His physical element sets him apart too
Also. Kaako I noticed win possession and be a lot to handle in the corner along the wall extending the PP1 zone time. Didn’t shirk away from some rough stuff too.

Sam mentioned GG talking to Chytil after he made a bad decision and turned it over at the blue line. No drama involved. Apparently you don’t have to be a former college to relate to young players. It’s good when the coach is not doing OJT.
He was also supportive of Georgie. He said they told him when he took the job that he would have 2 great goalies and that’s what he has. Who knows? Maybe a professional coach could have defused the TDA situation without giving him away for nothing.

Just gonna say this about the oilers and Holland
There are 2 schools of thought
1) Holland came in and everyone knew and expected he had to make big moves to change the complexion of the roster.
2) bc of that common belief/knowledge. He was gonna pay a premium and his only other option was to go the long route and get his roster infusion and his trade pieces by treading water a few years for draft picks.
It was stupid. He didn’t want to accept reality so he said I’m gonna build slow.
Hate to say it bc I’ve liked Holland. But his desire to not seem weak or be taken advantage of cost him years of mcdavid/Draisaitl becoming used to this and nearing a point they are ready to ask out
Holland’s 1st order of business should have been to bring in the very best goalie available. Whatever it took,
he should have traded for Marc Andre fleury, the summer after Vegas traded for and signed Lehner for the 5 year deal.
That was his missed move
