Who told ILB to go on vacation this time of year? Sheesh. Again apologies for the poor performance in his absence. Big afternoon game win today. Looks like every bonehead’s favorite center is heating up. Or did Tampa just play that poorly? 🙂
If there were any team in the league that should be used to the hangover champagne can give you it’s the Lightning. So that can’t be the excuse!
When Staple has a review I’ll add it.

If you look at the ice time, the writing is on the wall for Chytil. Support him, hate him, remain hopeful because of his age but odds are he has very little time left in NY. At least in a full time role. Gauthier the same.
And since it’s taking 3 years to find a center, they’re probably holding on to Strome. So that’s going to make some of you vomit for some reason too…
Can’t see them shedding both guys right now. This roster is kind of a mess depth wise.
Strome is a fine player, and an excellent #2C.
You think Chytil goes before deadline, James?
I thought that perhaps they were grooming Barron to be 3c by getting him as much playing time as they could in Hartford but their putting him on the taxi squad and not using him lately may give the lie to that theory. Are they maybe souring on our Cornellian?
Miller plays well and nary a comment. A meh game and the damning comments proliferate. He’s so young with tremendous upside. I’m glad he’s a Ranger.
Miller has been good 2 games in a row.
JD gushed over him, as did Maloney on TV today.
Olga. M. Dud you see hawks are having a contest whete you have a Blackhawks pen pal and you could win 2 tickets to a game
Olga. M. Did you see hawks are having a contest where you have a Blackhawks pen pal and you could win 2 tickets to a game
I don’t see Drury doing anything very soon. The plan was to shoot for the playoffs this year and they are on target for that. If they continue to pile up points and look like a real contender at the deadline maybe he makes a move. If they fall back to the pack he won’t do something drastic just to insure they get in.
I think Strome should especially because of his chemistry with panarin. I think chyyil will go he just seems invisible a lot. Maybe Gauthier could become a center he had those 2 great assists a couple months ago maybe csn do more consistently
Jpg’s sis- no I didn’t. Just turned on the tube. Hawks losing as usual…
Making the playoffs was the goal this year, but after the bubble debacle, (injuries or not), and the success they’ve had in the first half, I would hope they don’t get swept or completely outclassed the way they were in the play-in round vs. Carolina. Kids got to at least begin to learn about what it takes to win playoff games. Drury isn’t going all in, but he’ll be a buyer.
Not even going to respond to the Miller Romantics. Suffice to say that unlike his partner, he’s never retaliated against because he’s never seriously involved. He is a happy wanderer, never in proper position and once he finally gets there, he’s either too late or does nada, touches no one. I suggest that his admirers either rally for him to be experimented at wing or get yourselves , along with SalmonJoe, an in depth eye exam.
Impressive team win today. Looks like they put on their big boy pants today. Lots of contributions on the defensive side with many blocked shots by forwards and Defense. Igor and ZBad really stepped up. I was not optimistic with Panarin out, but they got it done. Would be nice to see Oilers go 0-3 for their NY-NJ visit. I also thought Jones and Lundqvist handled themselves OK today, though having the last change helped with that.
Like many others, I do not see Chityl or Gauthier being part of this team next year. The only question is when they get traded, deadline or draft? Unfortunately, I don’t think Drury will get much for either of them. Chityl may get you a second round pick and Gauthier maybe a 4th or 5th round pick. I don’t remember if either is a RFA at the end of the year, if so, you will get even less for them. I was glad neither of them saw much ice time today. I would like to see if Baron and Gettinger could do a better job.
Drury really needs to work on upgrading the scouting staff, they miss way too often in the draft. Certainly a disappointment to miss with the Anderson, Kravtsov & Chityl picks. As for Kakko and Laf the jury is still out, however, they get a pass on those picks, as every other GM would have taken those players at the same draft position.
I’d like to see Miller a bit more assertive physically.
Maloney spun that Miller compliments Trouba’s game nicely. I need to watch live to really see that.
Scottsdale,
I think he’s the forward they will move in a deal. Not sure what his value is but I can assure you it’s more than Gauthier’s and Goat is the other placeholder as of now.
Seems like if they’re going to make a move for a center it’s probably going to involve a R1 and a good defensive prospect which I can live with as long as it isn’t just a rental.
BW, I think the organization is grooming him but also trying to make the playoffs. GG most likely doesn’t think he’s ready right now and McKegg is better suited for 4th line minutes.
The hypocrisy comes into play because the taxi squad situation just sucks.
Thanks to the NHL and their policy on covid it’s necessary again and therefore they need to have guys who can play NHL minutes ready to go.
Coos, who Miller is is not what he will be. And fyi, I am not a romantic but I am patient. You might want to try it sometime.
I have to say I like where they are right now. Middle of the “good pack” is fine by me. I don’t think they need the pressure of being first in the metro and we’re all pretty tired of them hanging around nipping at the heels of the teams that are in playoff spots but struggling a bit.
If they could add some depth I like their chances in a 4-5 match up or even a 3-6 quarter final match
I respect the many different opinions here and consider most of you very knowledgable fans, who often bring up things I do not think of. With that said, I think we are all happy with the overall play of the Rangers, even with some roster flaws and we expect them to make the playoffs this year. I am curious of how many of you think it is worth mortgaging the prospect depth for a rental who will be an UFA at the end of the season? IMHO I think that would be a mistake at this point, but I am curious on what many of you think. I am of the opinion you trade for rentals when you have a legitimate chance to win a cup and I don’t think the rangers are close to that. Thoughts?
Pure rentals no thanks.
Not giving up a package that could potentially bring in a player with term who could genuinely help beyond this spring for a guy who will play 20 games and go sign a mega contract somewhere.
That’s fine for a team like Colorado who are looking for a “final piece” to get to the promised land. The Rangers aren’t quite there yet.
If it’s a player with a little bit of term? Sure. If it’s a a player on an expiring deal that Drury plans on locking up to a new deal? I’m fine with that too.
If they trade for Reilly Smith -which they probably will- people will flip because he’s a “rental” but he’s one player that they will certainly give a new contract to. A Gallant guy.
Ideally, an RFA who can plug into the 3C spot and be a legitimate 3C is what I’d want to see. But we’ve been waiting a while for that now.
They have a lot of cap space this season to add that disappears with Fox deal and Stromeo contract hit the books. While last season was a bit of a lark with the division realignment, the Habs went from pretender to Cup Finalist. Bring in some vets to show the yutes what is required in postseason would be smart, if nothing else for depth.
Are we worried about Flip Flop or Goat Boy getting their feelings hurt? Does anyone here think Nils and Jones are ready for playoff hockey?
Two RWs, 3C, bottom pair D, etc etc
James – ha! Time will tell.
Are they back to 1-8, 2-7, and so on this playoffs?
Heave Ho – sorry to hear that you are a patient.
Shaggy seems to thrive when Panarin is absent from the lineup. While I of course I want him to succeed I find that troubling.
Goat Boy as far as I am concerned is now officially Rico Fato 2.0……sadly.
Chytil is right there with him…so disappointing.
I for one hope they do not trade Jones. Players with his offensive ability do not grow on trees.
Coos, I’m equally sorry to learn that you’re snarky with a dull edge ☹️
Good morning, Boneheads!
Pretty solid win yesterday, let’s not minimize it. It was over by the end of period one, as it turned out, because they played very solid defensive game the rest of the way. Plus Shesterkin outplayed “the best goalie in the league”‘, as per Joe. No Panarin, Rooney, Lindgren and Nemeth.
The PP was very effective with Panarin as well, obviously, so his absence can not explain Zibanejad’s success yesterday. They need to figure out how to make the second unit more effective.
Much is said about Panarin-Strome chemistry, but how about Zibanejad-Kreider? That’s why I’d be careful separating them if Gallant thinks about moving Kreider to the third line. Lafreniere was very good yesterday, but is he really ready to take over one of the top two L wing positions? I don’t think so.
To answer MKH’s question. I wouldn’t mortgage the future for UFA rentals, but not going for it would be a mistake. You have one of the better goalies in the league, a Norris trophy winner, and a game breaker. You never know what could happen. This proverbial window may open any time and close unexpectedly for any team at any point. Especially with Covid and flat salary Cap. They have plenty of cap space this year ( will get worse next season ) and enough assets to use and still keep most of the prospect pool intact.
As currently built, I think they are a one and done team. But with the right moves, they are much closer to contending than most think. I’m not talking big moves. A couple of smart rentals Wouk do do the trick.
As far as the Nils/Jones paring goes, it will never work for any length of time. TB was changing on the fly to get their top line out against them. Other team will follow. To small, to one dimensional.
James don’t see how they could keep Smith next year…unless he is their new 2C or he is taking a massive paycut.
Mika is far more comfortable playing the left side wall on the pp tho, which is where Panarin has slotted most of the year. agree with many here that they should split up the pp units, moving strome to second and keeping Laf or Kakko on top unit
Drury is gonna make some moves at least for some depth forwards…and Rangers are gonna make some noise
Wait..Kreider is not going to be the 3rd line LW? He really should be doing more with that new contract and all.
bwahahahahahahahahahaha
and keep faith with GG….young players may be much better come playoff time
SN, Kreider and kakko have to be 3rd liners!! 😜
New first line
Chytil centering Kreider and Mika on the right
That will get him going and raise his trade value. 😉
I’m not discounting the back to back wins they were glorious. But what I enjoyed tremendously was watching the winning lighting. They really do believe they are the initialed ones!
Bobby – 100%, molding this roster in to a resilient team. Sum of the parts.
MSG had a segment speaking to Gord Murphy coaching up the players in practice and then speaking to giving them space to apply during games
Goodrow showing his ex-mates what they are missing, that pass to Stromeo was very good.
I have a question and it is hockey related if it offends anyone just delete it, or delete me.
If Russia invades the Ukraine and the US gets involved how do the Russians in the NHL react?
The Rangers are a definite threat
With Igor Shesterkin in net.
Goodrow play on the Stromeo goal was great SN… created turnover in neutral zone drew Dman to boards and hit trailer for goal …textbook
Edgy with a dull Snark… 🙂
coos.. you only have 10-12 more years of Miller time!
bobbyo
I’m a Rum guy myself never cared much Miller or Bud?
St.Pete the Russia question is an intriguing one. Perhaps they may be ordered to return to Russia.
With all the chaos the world feeds us on a daily basis it is a good thing to have hockey as a distraction for a few hours a week.
It is an interesting question with an obvious unknown outcome.
Lindgren and Rooney have cleared Covid protocol.
Notice how they run (or try to run) Lindgren. He pisses them off. Miller’s like an old Staal – uber friendly and operates his shuffleboard franchise from the third row,
Come on Coos …Miller is a much better and faster skater than Staal
You’d have to imagine Georgiev is in tonight…..
Well, if we’re going to make some noise, our backup is going to need to win a few for us…. so, in Georgie we trust (I think).
Otherwise, this team is finally a “team” and it’s a lot of fun to watch.
I’d still like to see them hold the blue line a little better rather than packing it in, but they’re making progress.
Exciting times to be a Rangers fan.
My 2022 super bowl prediction:
Gmen 31
KC 28
Mike Glennon : 34/37 587 yds passing 4 TDs
Rangers 5
Earlers 0
GwG : Mika Mouse in the house, ain’t no louse, I don’t joust, from the couch, sometimes slouch, never a grouch
Boyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
James E3 Joyce
E3,
It was all Eli’s fault.
Coos, why do you think Miller played nearly 27 mins. yesterday (about two and a half mins more than Trouba) in that 4-0 victory against the defending SC champs and still one of the very best teams in the entire league? According to you, GG and the rest of his staff clearly have no idea what they’re doing.
Bulldog – there goes the judge (I hope). Worst coach in Gmen history
Rangers’ first half MVP is the flip flop – dangerous Don Cheadle. Without his three goals, they’d be near the bottom of the standings
Miller is getting better. Still a rough Shift every Gabe mmmmmmmmmmm game but he’ll be good in a few years – real good. I wish Reavo would spend time instilling some meanest into the lad….
Meanness ^^^
Russian goalies dominate NHL. Love it.
Coos, I’ll propose some possible answers to my question. You can use one of mine if you’re struggling to come up with a believable answer:
* Rangers showcasing Miller for a possible trade hoping to get a 4th or 5th rounder.
* Team needed plenty of video footage of Miller demonstrating everything wrong w/ their defense in that 4-0 victory. GG probably running that video session right now as I write this.
* GG needed to totally exhaust Miller for tonight’s game so he’ll play so poorly that they can send him down to Hartford tomorrow and he’ll pass through waivers w/o getting claimed.
* Rangers trying to piss off Trouba and Fox so that they demand Miller gets traded asap.
I’m going to say that everything about Miller that’s posted here is true. He’s shown flashes of incredible goodness and badness (like someone said earlier on the same shift at times). Still young and will improve, but to “teach” toughness and physicality. It’s either in your nature or it isn’t.
Coos, just to be clear, I’m not saying Miller is Norris material now and doesn’t need to improve. But the kid is young, big, skates really well and plays against top opposing lines. He has tremendous upside! And our coach, who knows a thing or two about playing and coaching has him paired w/ one of our top defenders. Do you really want to lose this kid and watch him possibly turn into a monster when he’s MAN sized in 2-3 years? Do you think Trouba was crushing players like he is now his first couple of seasons? Give the kid a break! He’s playing against the best players in the world and he’s only 22.
I give up, as I did with Staal. I shall concentrate elsewhere until y’all awaken to the errors of your ways on your own.
Just a question:
But now that carp has left the athletic why are we linking their articles?
Guy gave his eye for us with the way he played and battled early in his career. Only to have it said about him that he was always soft from the beginning.
24 games away from 1,000
Eye before e except after see
staal had a promising career derailed by injuries…mistake was giving him a new contract after all the injuries. No ill will, but glad he’s gone
