Good morning, boneheads!
One of my favorite quotes on Veterans Day:
“This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave.”- Elmer Davis.
It’s easy to forget while dealing with daily routines that one of the main reasons we even have an opportunity to deal with our routines is because someone was, and is, brave enough to put their lives on the line, so we can have what we have. That, by the way, includes enjoying hockey, among many other trivial things.
Thank you everyone who served and still serving! That incudes a few of our own, as you all know. Our hockey helmets off to you, guys!

Thanks ilb it was my honor to serve! And a salute to all my fellow Bonehead Vets!
Thank you to all who served!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Never was so much owed by so many to so few
A big THANK YOU to all veterans. You guys are the BEST!
A special prayer for all those who did not come home and their families. My uncle was killed in the Philippines
during world war 2 and my grandmother never recovered. The debt of gratitude we owe all of our vets is something we should not take for granted.
THANK YOU
Salute to all the vets, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice and continuing to bring troops home and ‘ending the endless’ wars.
yesterday the marine corps celebrated 246 years of service.
we owe a huge gratitude to all branches of military.
Well said Ilb! Thank you to all who served and thank you especially to all of you chucklefaces that did…you guys rock.
Just wanted to touch on team toughness and lack of response to our goalie getting run into.
For a very long time this has been the norm on the Rangers. I understand that after Tom Wilson and Ryan Reaves coming here we thought our problem was fixed but I guess not.
As I said next two game will be interesting.
In an interview I saw someplace Strome says that the Ranger in general and Reaves in particular YELLED at Duclair. If he thinks this is the proper response then this team is in sorrier shape then we all thought. I YELLED at the tv countless times and that has about the same intimidation factor as what our boys have done. Last but not least. Rangers vs Devils,Islanders and Washington Ryan Reaves had better fight someone;anyone.
I wish to take a moment to honor all of our heroic veterans, especially my late father who served in the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War and participated in the Battle of Choisin Reservoir where they were surrounded by the Chinese and had to execute a break out in sub zero weather. Rest in peace dad…you and your compatriots were heroes.
Reaves challenges; no takers so far. Smart, in that sense. When he goes, he won’t gift a PP, he’ll take you with him.
Great post Ilb. Love the quote.
My grandfather was one of the greatest influences in my life, I often wonder what kind of a relationship I would have had with my mothers father. He is buried in 🇧🇪 Belgium on a hill that over looks a beautiful valley. I visited a few years ago and learned all about the battle that cost him his life, I have his 2 Purple Hearts and his silver star, and a flag on the mantle. Next to his picture of when he was 26. Great Carp number, if only we stopped aging.
Happy Veterans Day to all that have served and are still serving. Be Blessed.
Thank you to all who have and those who continue to serve.
Well said ILB. My visit to Colleville sur Mer, the American cemetery on the hill above Omaha Beach was one of the most emotional moments of my life. My heart is filled with thankfulness and admiration for all of our veterans and their families.
I echo the sentiments of those about. Thank you to all Veterans! (My father a Vietnam vet included)

What gives with the athletic?. When carp announced his retirement he and other staff over there mentioned another hire yet to be announced to help the beat. Still no sign of anyone besides staple who’s pulling double duty.
So much for a subscription level service
I guess id rather pay for Vince M
I remember when I visited that cemetery in Normandy and was unexpectedly overcome with emotion. As you view the sea of markers for those very young persons who gave what Loncoln called the “last full measure of devotion” you can’t help but be moved by their sacrifice.
indeed thanks to all you vets
Very sad that Steve Somers will be signing off of WFAN. Always enjoyed his evening shows if I happened to be in the car. Nice guy and never a d.b. to callers like Francesa.
Old Ranger …. my memory was finding HENRI-CHAPELLE AMERICAN CEMETERY AND MEMORIAL in Belgium. Two serviceman work there and once they found out my Grandfather was buried there. They dropped what they were doing and helped me find his cross. Then took the time to tell me what happened on Oct 11, 1944. Just a surreal experience.
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.
Here’s to all the Veterans that have fought for our country, and for the one’s that didn’t make it home.
Wick, these “chuckle faces who served”includes you.
Thanks Wick.
Any story you would like to share?
Wow Sens have 9 team members in covid protocol. You would have to call up half your farm team to play.

They don’t retire his # v. Rangers – low class org
The Good One…
Losing the Smooz will be a hole in late night radio though admittedly don’t listen much these days. Somers was a unabashed NYR fan and great Azzdancer troll, playing the clips of NYR goals v ‘the Potato Farmers’ from out west. Ha. What? Ha!
Me here, you there…
Radio show after NYR v Derbils Game 7, 1994.
SN – pure gold. Thanks for finding and sharing.
Ilb
I’m well aware 😉

I keep most of those stories to myself. The ones id be willing to share aren’t really blog appropriate.
Oilers Power Play is at 46% That’s unreal. Blues is second in the league at 33%, Buch helping make a difference.
Clearly the Blues won the trade here.
Rangers at 18%. Puts them at 16th in the league.
Sioux
Agreed on the trade. Still I think at this point the Rangers (Drury) expected more out of Krakko and Lafreniere.
Blues win the trade?
Butch: 9GP 3-2-5 (1 PP point) 6 Hits @ $5.75M
Blais: 12 GP: 0-4-4 (O pp) 32 Hits @ $1.5M
maybe being facetious but Buch has been mediocre for Blues so far in general, 3g, 2a (with 1 goal on pp)
great minds SN
My bad , Rangers also get a 2nd round pick in 2022. And you have to consider the $ saved. Still a chance to be a good trade.
Can’t take this 5 day off stretch
Brutal!
Thanks to all who served and for being more brave than I could ever imagine being. Thankful every day that I was lucky enough to be born in the greatest country in the world. Maybe we’re not perfect, but there’s no other place I’d rather be.
One of the greatest stories I heard was when my wife’s grandfather told us about storming Normandy, and how he earned his Bronze Star and Purple Heart. P
Thank you Veterans for your service.
My Dad was a Green Beret who did two tours in Vietnam. He didn’t speak much about that time in his life,(and I tried to pry a lot more out of him before I resigned myself to the fact he didn’t want to go there), but his service was a huge part of who he was, right-up until the day he lost his battle with cancer in 2019.
Truly appreciate all the sacrifices each of you made for all of us.
Derbils shutting out Azzdancers with Ryan Graves on first pair.
What NYR do with the bag of pucks they got for him from Avs?
Thanks Gorts!
Grimaldi on waivers. We could use a goal scorer.
Devils one point behind the Rangers now.
The Metro division looks tough already. If course it’s early, but in spite of their record almost every team is playing better than the Rangers.
only team with more road games than Rangers so far is Isles
NYR Record v 2021 Playoff Teams:
4-1-1 (H: 1-0), (A: 3-1-1)
NYR Record v 2022 Playoff Teams if season ended today:
3-3-1 (H: 1-1), (A: 2-2-1)
Crazy Schedule – only 3 of next 8 are home then finish out year with 9 of 15 at Home.
2021 (H/A): 16/19
My mistake the Rangers are playing lights out.
Can Igor play back to back after 5 days off. I expect them to be flat after the layoff. Hopefully they surprise me. If Chytil doesn’t play tomorrow he got a bigger head shot than they are admitting.
Negative is the new positive. Winning is the new losing.
Two separate 4 game road trips to start the season. Zibanejad and Panarin with slow starts. Strome misses 4 games. And they have the record they have? Not bad at all to me.
Still rather be winning while they work out the issues. Don’t think anyone expects them to win the Cup if they can’t complete passes, top players don’t produce, kids look like kids, and get doubled up on shots. But, better to win while figuring it out.
BDL was thinking that Ilb should try to get you a press pass for MSG
Was that the Buffalo killer in goal for Derbils?
Watched parts of Derbils-Azzdancer game; Derbs have a very fast team, not very physical and PK Slewfoot is not on top pair so is not getting lit up like he normally does.
Azzes looked like they were at the of a month long road trip. Once they get behind; very hard to come back with that roster.
Canes and Craps are the top teams to worry about then Azzes followed by any one of NYR, Pitts, Filthy and possibly BJs but I doubt it long term.
Only 2 of first 13 games in division, unlike last season not a lot of division games relative to past seasons.
For the 2021–22 season the NHL regular season formula was adjusted to account for the addition of the Seattle Kraken. Each team plays either three or four games against the other teams in its division (a total of 26 games) as well as playing all non-divisional teams in their own conference thrice (24 games). The remaining games of the season are inter-conference play (32 games), allowing every team in the league to play every other team twice. The schedule is structured so that every NHL team plays in every arena at least once per season.
Think NHL really needs to look into adopting something like what NFL does with a rotating out of conference schedule. That would cut the out of conference down to 16 games, balance can then be allocated to divisional games.
5 consecutive days off Mid November. Change our name to the Pleasantville Fire Department Rangers and tap the keg.
I’m telling you, the Rangers have worked on all of their issues during the week off, and are going to come back to play like SC champions!
Sounds like Kinkaid has played well in Hartford. I’m not hearing anything, but could we see a call up this weekend?
Everything is fine.
If you ignore problems and bury your head in the sand, do said problems even exist!
Our boys have one of the sexiest records in the metro…. Ignore the stats! They can TOTALLY sustain this.
Sustain what? Teams evolve over the course of a season. The important thing right now is that they are getting points while they figure things out. You want to be negative for the sake of being negative, enjoy.
Craig likes rain!!
Is the bye week over yet? 😉
Dark clouds and foreboding skies in forecast. Stock up on wine and cheese for the weekend. Get ready for a Sunday Brunch of blame for Dreary and GG.
There are structural problems related to Meeka and Bread that cannot be rectified IMHO. Both are very good at unsettled situations; Bread with his passing and Meeka with his shot on the fly. That does not lead to extended possession in the Ozone so NYR will rarely win the game on the statsheet but must convert their opportunities and limit the Grade A chances in Dzone.
.
Puts a lot of onus on bottom 6 to grind out possessions in Ozone to counter the top 6 penchant for short possessions.
.
Curious what GG will do to address as late career player’s are not going to change their games; must deploy personnel around them to limit the downside of their games. Put Meeka on the wing and it solves a lot of problems save for the fact they only have one top 6 center then…
Yup.
That’s it.
I love being negative for the sake of being negative….
Or, you know, I don’t live in fantasyland and I’m a realist.
But hey, tomato… tomato….
For the record, I’m not a fan of rain, unless it’s a good thunderstorm. Hope that isn’t too “negative” for you….
Fore-check, charge the net relentlessly and get back on D.
coos
Way too complicated!
Einstein astounded ivory tower theoretic physicists by thinking like a child.
How about these geniuses stop trying to paint a Picasso every single time they get in the O-Zone and instead put the puck on net and look for rebounds…. Ya think that might have something to do with the whole “being outshot” problem?
I think we see an honest effort tomorrow, (a full 60 minutes plus whatever skills competition is required), and if Shestyerkin or anyone else gets pushed around, we see white jerseys come flying- in and defend eachother.
This is a nice interview. This Shesterkin kid seems very bright, and affable:
https://nypost.com/2021/11/12/igor-shesterkin-talks-everything-rangers-henrik-lundqvist-nyc/
Flyers placed Kubel on waivers ….some beef to consider ?
Torts on McDavid
Pack won last night. Barron had two, and Jones one. Schneider had an assist, his 4th.
C3
Send that clip to Bananajad?
32 Thoughts Podcast this week is titled “32 Goalies.” Elliot Friedman isn’t there and Marek speaks with a goalie guru. Shestyerkin is the first goalie they focus on and he spends several minutes just on Igor. Says,(I’m paraphrasing), he’s playing well enough to be in the mix to win the Vezina but the Rangers aren’t playing well enough to support that. Compares and contrasts with guys like Demko and Lehner.
Lots of technical stuff, but still interesting episode for hockey junkies.
Igor may wear down as the season goes along if he get shelled every night like he has so far. And he may get hurt if everyone is allowed to crash the net without any pushback.
The Rangers are tougher to play against just ask Igor?
Igor/Eye-gore
5th – goals saved above expected
3rd – expected goals against
10th – saves expected against unblocked shots (goalies w/ > 2 games)
9th – saves % above expected
The big issue is Boy George is the exact opposite in the stats.
the crashing the net is partially due to having 3 defenders that weigh less than 200 lbs on your starting D. Love Lindgren’s willingness and toughness, but question his ability to play in and around the crease in the playoffs.
These guys are getting pushed around now, wait until the Spring when some of you will break all your pearls with all the clutching going on…
Chytil is still hurt? Really?? But he had two points in his breakout game recently. Face it, the kid is a wuss. Can’t stay on the ice because he doesn’t understand how the game is really played. 200 ft, inside out.
.
Who was harping on Danault’s ‘slow start’ a couple of weeks ago and the supposed overpayment.

No worries you forget we can always recall McKegg?
SN I worry more about Miller and Trouba keeping people out of the crease consistently than Lindgren or even Fox. Trouba likes to throw some big hits on the boards and all but I’ve seen way too many opponents behind him in the crease area unopposed.
Right now with all the issues this clown show has the biggest of them all is Kappo Krakko’s inability to score. And from what I have seen that isn’t going to change. I still have some hope for Lafreniere. I’m just chalking it up to more Ranger bad luck. Can’t blame management for either pick.
This is what they need to bring to MSG to gently usher in the age of Rollerball! Armored Combat
That Igor interview is a little perplexing at times, and not just the part about never having NY pizza. If Hank was his role model, why would he not talk with him as much as possible given the chance?
“And another big difference was that the space in front of the goal is usually a lot more crowded in the NHL, and there’s just a lot more contact with the goalie. And at first, I kinda didn’t really like that, but now I’m kind of comfortable with it, that’s just how the game works. ”
Igor, learn from your elders!
Both Othman, and Cuylle doing what was expected of them this season. Veirling looks to be heating up. Korzac really playing well, and Grubbe must be fun to watch. 11 points, 31 PIMs.
Bdl
Good news maybe just maybe those picks may turn out to be just what we need.
Next wave will be fun; homegrown talent the brunch crowd will recoil watching.
Still need a 3c and possibly a guy like Reilly Smith on the right side.
By the time they arrive Kreider and Bread will be winding down. The window never opened.
Starting next year with Wild Will and possibly Schneider the Handyman .
they can only afford the real reilly smith for this year, but not going forward unless both their 2c and 3C are making peanuts
kakko may have no points Eli, but still think Laf has looked worse overall. can only hope they turn it around this year (or next or next…)

Actually only meant to share the Rangers Tweet,(not that guy’s response), but whether he’s healthy or on the IR, Chytil is not the answer.
Pete-agree that a center should be the priority over a wing.
Pete don’t disagree that Lafreniere has looked worse nevertheless both are a big let-down IMHO.
Chytil belongs on the wing on another team!
The rebuild 1st rd forwards
