Only saw the highlights. No opinion on game.
Saw a lot of angst about the Lemieux trade. I’m not bothered they traded him. I would have chosen a few guys before him to jettison, before Lemieux. Just creating a roster spot for Kravtsov. Who by the way, is now going on three weeks since he last played. Soon they will send him to Hartford to get games, and shortly after that he will board a plane heading for Russia. Only the Rangers can get a player mid season, who has players 40 plus games already, and have him get rusty watching games. I know, I know, he needs to learn the system. Sheeesh.
he seemed to be shooting too much this season in the KHL, BDL. Gotta get that out of his system, by learning Q’s “system”!
moving Lemeuix gives us more cap and roster flexibility this year and next, so all for it.
I see two problems with trading Lemieux and only one really matters.
1. They lose an element that’s already very limited on this roster aside from Lindgren.
And
2. It makes the Kevin Hayes trade look that much worse to those obsessed w Hayes.

If you are not going to take the shackles off of Lemieux and let him be a true pest, there is no point in having him. As fracas the Hayes trade goes, who cares!
the narrative that Quinn was holding Lemeuix back in some way seems more of an excuse for Lemeuix’s poor play this year than anything else. I mean i’m sure Q, like any coach, told him not to take cheap shots like last season that would get him suspended, but that’s about it.
Not a coincidence that he is now on his 4th organization at the age of 25 and my guess is, the Kings won’t be his last
Agreed BDL but let’s face it, as far as “being tougher to play against” this is a step backwards.
Lemieux played a flawed game but you know what? So does Smith and so did Johnson and McLeod and Haley and Glass etc. Lemieux doesn’t play in this league to score goals or make pretty plays.
And this is to get Kravtsov into the lineup. Not exactly a physical player. In fact I’m anticipating a lot of the same as you mentioned. 4th line. No trust, harness the player and give him a seat in the press box if he makes a defensive mistake or tries to use his natural abilities.
Pete- again, if they think the best thing to do is eliminate the elements Lemieux brings and add Kravtsov as a bottom six player and then go out this offseason and add Eichel and then add nils and Zach Jones to the roster then I hope that the fans who get excited for it value the PP and regular season stats more than they do a Championship because this team will not be going very far.

My point is if you want the most effective Lemieux, the coach needs to look the other way at whatever antics he is up too. Tom Wilson is a POS, but a very effective POS. Every coach he’s had has looked the other way. You live with the consequences. If as a coach you are not willing to, then there is no point in having that kind of player.
Agreed w BDL and I think the same goes for ADa, Gauthier and the same will go for Kravtsov all in different ways.
Each player is unique. You can’t just make them fall in line by going against their instincts and prohibiting the things the do well.
Besides….It’s not like there is a system that they play that everyone needs to commit to.
All I know is today they are even less harder to play against…..Geerston should be up …they shouldn’t wait until they get manhandled…which could happen today

Rangers have turned in to a s$$t show. This team as constructed is not a playoff team. I have a bad feeling I’m not going to like the direction this team is going. Lets see what Gorton does from this point on until start of next season.

LeMew was one of the few forecheckers the team had and one of a select few that threw the body…..hands of stone offensively but you need guys like him on the 4th line….much better option than howdy doody…

The saddest part is that some will just celebrate this because “Lemieux sucks and can’t play hockey”
Meanwhile they turn a blind eye to the fact that the organization is saying one thing and doing the other.
Consider that if and when they trade Georgie, they will have parted ways with the three RFAs they focused on re-signing this past offseason while trying to trade away Strome who is the only one that worked out and having to shop the discount aisle instead of getting some legit bottom six help.
Also keep in mind that while this opens a roster spot it doesn’t necessarily open up a position for Kravtzov who plays the right.
This will give DiGi /Howden a regular spot and possibly allow Barron to come up.

Probably….but bringing in Digiseppe instead of Geerston against Washington is highly questionable
Lemieux isn’t half the player Wilson is. He has 7 goals this year despite the suspension and has a couple of 20 goal seasons. He’s also 6-4 and 220. I wish Goat Boy would turn into Wilson but it aint goin’ to happen. It doesn’t seem to be in his makeup. His penalties would be more tolerable if they were aggressive plays rather than careless stick fouls.
Pepe Jr.’s performance went downhill during his time with the Rangers. He is overpaid for a 4th liner in today’s flat cap NHL and he was headed either to Seattle or walking after next season. The Jets won that trade. It’s time to move on.

Not every Ranger can be the very best in the league at what they do. It’s just not realistic to think that way

This has far less to with kratsov then them not thinking lemeuix and his cap hit is good value on the 4th line going forward. So they found a way to get a not horrible return for a player they didn’t want going forward, simple as that. later this season or next you will have barron in the bottom 6 and hopefully we find someone else effective there too (internally or externally).
And you can use Wilson as an example, but he is the exception not the norm because he is both a dirty POS and can also play middle 6. That wasn’t lemeuix this year (beyond being a lesser POS) and wasn’t likely ever going to be so here or elsewhere.
