Read Carp’s article with his inside scoop on what transpired yesterday that led to the organization cutting their ties with DeAngelo, most likely. It was not this incident itself, but it sounds like it was the last straw. Yes, on the surface it sounds like they’re losing him for nothing. But apparently they’ve tried to find a dance partner to take him for some time to no avail. And now, after what’s been happening for some time and culminated in his altercation with a teammate, not cutting ties with him would send an awful message to this team.
My opinion is he is done. He will go to Hartford for the rest of this season with NY saving $1.075M of cap space, and they will buy him out after during this summer. His buyout is a no-brainer since they will save ( my calculations) over $4.41M next year and it will cost them only $883K of cap space a year after. Remember, his buyout will come at 1/3 value since he younger than 26.

I guess with all the brouhaha surrounding the Beverly-Boy George incident, nobody wants to read about the Flyers bleeding shots and puck possession. Lol
Carp said that DeAngelo was well liked by most if not all of his teammates, and that the players were very upset about this and about his dismissal. His terrible start to the season also contributed to this outcome. Carp reiterated that they have tried to trade him since the end of last season with no takers. What is next? Carp says he will not play for the Rangers again. He is sure that they have explored all options including sending him home, a buyout and also other options (contract termination). The Rangers had confronted him repeatedly about his social media musings, and he was on a very short leash.
Again, I feel bad for TonyD and the Rangers. I liked him here.

I feel for TonyD too. I can understand why he was hurt if he was hurt by the numbers game hockey wise, and fans willing to jettison him after being such a fun important part of the team last year.
Yet if he’s hurt or upset and isn’t/wasn’t able to just tune it out, enjoy the game and his teammates, and instead was a pulsing out of tune energy around the team.
Quinn is obviously neck deep coaching and figuring out what to do with the other 22 guys, and without someone actually needing to resort to a I’ll physically put you in line, nobody in that locker room was able to look tony in the eye, and say eat a snickers and start pulling in the same direction, enough.
And JD took control of the situation the one way he knew he could, he removed him from the room.
Have a problem with then trying to trade him since the end of last season with no takers ……understand history here but a right handed defenseman that can run a powerplay and move the puck…young and not gonna break the bank..they coundn’t get anything for that? And if that is truly case why sign for him for 2 years versus arbitation/1 year deal. Doesnt add up

Between Quinn, Gorton, JD and even Dolan, (who doesn’t usually get involved in the Rangers but may have on this one), I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a couple different opinions about what to do with ADA this off season. Standing-pat, without bringing in more leadership, and giving him the 2 year $4.8 AAV prior to arbitration proved to be the wrong call.
Bobby, I don’t know. You can make the same argument with Tony that you can with Strome. So Strome’s numbers last year get laughed off because he played with Panarin right?
Not saying Tony doesn’t have more offensive skill but to be fair he scored 53 points and 19 of them were on the PP which was going wild on everyone thanks to Panarin’s career year.
No takers? I’m skeptical too. But no one willing to part with anything of value for him? I believe it. Especially when you consider his contract demands, the affect the pandemic had on the league and this season having been so up in the air.
Mind you, Gorton didn’t sign him to a five year deal and he certainly wasn’t looking at the situation saying to himself “I’m fed up with this kid and one more blunder on his part I’ll waive him!”…
Before we completely and totally side with Georgie, note that he’s been very vocal about his opinion re: rampant racism, and other criticisms of the USA. So what we have here are two opinionated loudmouths who can’t get along. Happens every day in any workplace in the world.

AA just imagine if it were any of the other top 5 scoring D men from last season (Carlson, Josi, Hedman, Hughes).

The organization gambled that D’Angers play would continue on a fairly high level offensively and that the worst of his maturity problems were behind them. At the time they probably thought the risk/reward was pretty good and they would be able to move him at the deadline or next summer for a good return as other teams would think ok, he’s past the baby stuff.
JJ could have been a good D partner by playing last game, causing a regulation loss and preventing all of this from happening.

The whole thing with 77 is unfortunate. Every little thing has smowballed into a giant avalance.
The boy is a good player….you can’t offense and he’s good there. He brings some nastiness as well…or at least he did until Quinn clipped his wings. On the verge I fear of being wasted talent.
Maybe Quinn could have just put 77 and Boy George on time out? Send them to their rooms without supper?

Rich in my heart of hearts I think it looks ridiculous because we don’t know everything. I believe Quinn when he says it wasn’t this one incident that led to the waiving him.
At the end of the day it sucks to lose someone who was such a big contributor to the offense. But if they get more physical and defend better while having less distractions among the players then maybe it’s for the best. We’ll have to wait and see.
This Beverly-Boy George situation presents a challenge to the team as a group. Let’s see what they do with it.

Don La Greca on the Michael Kay show just said that the rumors about issues with Tony D and K’Andre Miller are all false. The keeping the puck thing is false and Kreider punching him is false. It was between Tony and Georgie and it was Georgie who went at Tony D physically after Tony D was yelling at him about the goal. La Greca also said that the puck from Kandre’s first goal is being put in a case by Rangers training staff as we speak. One would assume that LaGreca has reliable sources.

Spoke with DeAngelo’s agent, Pat Brisson. He says he and Rangers GM Jeff Gorton are talking with clubs with trade interest in DeAngelo. Brisson is confident they will get something done in the near future. In the meantime, DeAngelo will remain at home awaiting a deal.

Any thoughts of trying to terminate DeAngelo’s contract?
Gorton: “No. We’re not talking about that. We’re talking about finding him another place to play and letting him move on with his career and wishing him the best of luck.”
Ilb can work the exact numbers, but I don’t think a max retained contract deal works for NYR.

I just want to apologize to you guys, TonyD, K’andre, and the rest of the rangers guys for even speculating and throwing out my observation from intros into the ring on our platform (even though i pray/hope that weasel Herman has his own fan blog JD was referring too)
I’ve been going all last week and trying to ground after that and impulsively when i read ILB’s post referencing the email he got. I quickly threw it out there and then this morning noticed I got a lot of comments like yeah right and so I got sucked into feeling like I needed to prove what I was talking about.
I wish I personally didn’t even involve myself in any speculating but I did quickly and then spent more time explaining myself. I apologize for having to do that after bringing it up in the 1st place
And TonyD. Eye on the prize man. Set yourself up with a nice role and D partner and PP time; and earn that contract. And just enjoy the NHL life. Don’t let social media have any space in your head anymore. You can live like a king without ever having to acknowledge social media again.
Oh and I plan on chirping you quite a bit over the years live at games, so make sure your in the position to shove it down my throat on the ice. Good luck where ever you land bud.
