Time to play hockey?

Published by

Good morning, boneheads!

I would say yes, it’s time to play hockey. You know It when you see the Athletic posting articles like this. Fortnite? Realy?

Meantime, it looks like we are getting closer. A couple of articles from the Post describing what it may look like, click here and here. The decision may be made as early as today.

UPDATE: Click here to read Carp’s new article.

“I feel like if you’re doing the 24-team thing, it basically gives a team a chance that had no chance of making it, which if you play 82 there’s maybe 6, 8% chance that the team in 12th place (in the conference) makes it,” Carolina player representative Jordan Martinook said Wednesday, more than 24 hours before the executive board meeting. “Nobody’s ever seen this before, but at the end of the day, the Stanley Cup Playoffs are 16 teams, seven games a series.”

Yeah ok. All those teams in the East were within 3 pts with at least 12 games left. Stop crying.

Martinook wants no part of playing the Rangers. Carolina’s record against the Rangers is terrible and the Rangers would have been out. I do think that Montreal and Chicago being in are both huge reaches. That appears to be a revenue decision. I would have been fine with 20 teams or just 16 and the Rangers in the lottery. But the NHL and the players need as much hockey related revenue as possible given what they have lost, and will continue to lose with no fans in attendance.

James is it possible to wash N95s and how? I found another on the seat of my tractor today. Unfortunately it got pretty filthy over the winter.

  21. Norm Merton Avatar

Why wash it, beezle? Probably has some good stuff in there to help you rebuild your gut flora.

  22. James G Avatar

Beez, ILB would have the better answer on that. Ours get sent out and sterilized but once it’s done they rarely seal/fit as well. They say leave it on your dashboard and let the sun “sterilize” it but I feel like these are the same people who used to be telling women to do headstands after sex to get pregnant.

  24. ilb2001 Avatar

Don’t wash it, Beezle. Clean manually what you see. N95 masks aren’t approved for any type of decontamination and reuse. Some attempts were made ( ultraviolet irradiation etc. ), but the results were just OK and it was an attempt to overcome our shortages. Washing it with plain water and soap, for example, reduces its filtration efficiency from 95% to 45%, making it useless.

Woman, 40 something, in supermarket no mask. ‘Did you see the sign on door? Everyone needs to wear one inside.’ “I can’t for personal reasons” ‘Then you should leave the store, for personal reasons of course!’

This is a family owned place. If, for some reason, you medically can’t wear a mask and asked them to fill an order for pickup they would do it. Not running to be Sheriff of the Mask Police but someone needs to call these people out and at least make them feel uncomfortable. Damn things fog my glasses and I put up with them while shopping.

  27. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

Ilb – Isn’t the virus toast on pretty much all surfaces after 48-72 hours? The one N95 I’ve been using for shopping is in good shape and I generally do not go out in public places where it would be necessary every day (even in olden times) so I figured reuse no problem. Be nice if I can clean the other up to switch off too.

The Pats have not made their division opponents look like chumps. Those organizations have done that to themselves with perpetual instability and poor ownership, front office and coaching. The Pats couldn’t make the three teams be so poorly run, and they couldn’t prevent them from drafting and developing or acquiring an all-pro QB. They have merely been beneficiaries.

Other than that. I’m not giving any bulletin board or motivational material for any other team.

It’s time to get in shape boys.
Overall, this tournament and the eventual cup winner will always have an asterisk. But that won’t matter one bit in the fans memory for the team who makes a run. Make a long run and the team and the guys on it have etched themselves in the memories of Ranger fans for a long long time. Once in a lifetime situation. Everyone’s cold, No ones in the flow. Find a way to come together and play playoff hockey and who knows how far that’ll take you this summer

So all they have done is agree on a format – which Tampa and Carolina voted against. Lots of hurdles to get over before they play games. It’s not clear where they will play yet. US has waived 14 day quarantine period for foreign players coming into the US. Canada will have to do they sames unless Canadian team players report directly to a US hub city. Maybe there will be games by July 4th.
MLB has a protocol for games which is several pages long. It includes provision for spacing players during games (that won’t work on a hockey bench), no showers, no food spreads after games, no lineup card exchange etc. I assume the NHL will have to develop something similar and the NHLPA will have to agree to it. MLB will play in home ballparks and it doesn’t look like they’re sequestering the home players. Lots of moving parts still to be developed.

The only thing the owners/leagues/pols care about regarding the Fans is using sports as a means to distract us from what’s going on or to keep people content in areas they want to use this situation as an opportunity to social-condition you to a new norm.

I keep readin the world will never be the same and cocos-19 will never be here forever.

    Folks that is social -conditioning.

It’s become obvious they are using the virus situation and people’s own willing to have stayed home before we knew how serious or not serious this thing as the vehicle to try social-conditioning The country into a new norm.

It’s not gonna work. They won’t even get the percentages they’ve predicted to actual a new norm to accept it. You guys are dumbzzzes thinking the world is full of idiots. That was, is, and will always be your eventual undoing.

MLB seems to assume they can play games and maintain social distancing. They even talk about having multiple clubhouses for each team so that they can spread out. I’m not sure that is realistic, but, it is very unlikely for contact sports like hockey. They need to plan for player to player transmision and plan to isolate them. Maybe they just go on IR for 2 weeks. Everyone may need have to a medical evaluation. Do diabetics participate? DQ has hemophilia. Is he in? Obesity is not a issue among the players but may be among staff. If Ken Hitchcock was still coaching he might be better off staying away from the rinks at his girth and age. Player who have had cancer treatment (Brian Boyle, Phil Kessel) need to be evaluated. Are AHL player available if the rosters get depleted even if their contracts have expired after July 1. Lots of stuff to settle before they hit the ice. This gets more real to me when they publish locations and schedules.

Social conditioning is a good thing. It’s society’s way of selectively weeding out characteristics that do not contribute to a healthy, productive and safe society by making those characteristics less likely to be passed on through generations.

If CoVID-19 is going to socially condition people to something, it’s that so many people from vulnerable communities are so close to devastation, both medical and financial, that society may not be able to continue functioning effectively if we don’t try alleviate the disparity.
