Rangers-2, Flyers-5

Good morning, boneheads!

Carp is talking a lot about adversity this morning.

This loss was not unexpected. Three games in four nights, arrived from Montreal late. Good team, with a very good goaltender. Even then, they played well at the beginning. No doubt, though, Kreider injury affected their play. This is very big. We can talk all we want about them being mentally tough, being together as a team. And I do want to see how they respond as a team. This loss last night hasn’t changed their outlook for this season. Kreider injury may. They are not deep enough to replace a first line winger with his abilities, and with his impact in the locker room. Very few teams can.

No, I am not suggesting they will nose dive. Playoffs are still very realistic. But now they will have to do rely on their will more than on their skill. Do they have it?

Well, we talked about their play not being the best despite the continued winning streak. It was pretty obvious that when they lost one it was going to be ugly.

They’ve had a tremendous run without major injuries and as Carp said, they held it together through the Zibanejad injury early on.

This hurts because the left side is just about the worst spot for them to try to fill a hole. I love Lemieux but I don’t think going from 4LW to 1 is smart. I also don’t think Gauthier is very comfortable on the left from what he’s said.
Quinn is going to have to push the right buttons here.

Maybe Panarin is cool with playing 40 minutes a game?

A big thank you to all of yous guys for providing a distraction with good hockey convo as well as words of encouragement this past week. It was a rough one but happy to say we received nothing but good news and relief yesterday… until I heard that thud off of Kreider’s skate of course.
But for real- thank you, chuckleheads.

I’m trying lil Pepe on this wing for starters. He was playing higher up in the lineup before he broke his hand. Think he has the skill-set to complement Mika/buch and that he’s been dying for an opportunity to play higher up.

That’s why we have him. To be he’s the classic can play anywhere and do what he does. But that he’s also a guy that can fill in and do the dirty work for the top dogs.

I also what to see what he does with the chance. We might be really surprised.

Everyone needs to step up their games: be smarter, better decisions, keep it simple. Step up your games in ways that are in your control. Focus and work

McKegg goes into the lineup short term. If they fall out of it, Kravtsov comes up? They only have two call ups left, and they want Hajek back because Smith is not very good, so they have to be smart about the other call up.

Watched the dvr’d game late because of all the grandbaby stuff going on. A loss was bound to happen too bad it was against the philth. Wow we finally get the goalie, he gets injured, Kreider signs he gets injured, bad luck for sure? But the Minx is not giving up I believe in this team they will find a way

additionally I want to keep buch with Mika and hope buch really steps his game up with Kreids being out. You risk losing Buchy confidence and prudction by dropping him in the lineup bc he’s rusty.

Instead you tap him on the back and tell him hes gonna be the guy to pick up the slack for Kreids and you give him the chance to step up.

Lenny-Mika-buch is the simplest way to keep the lines and chemistry intact

  10. jpp Avatar
    jpp

Drop buch and let’s say he goes into one of his funks and suddenly your basically down Kreider and buch

Hajek up. It allows the rangers to dress 7 d and smith can rotate taking lemmy’s 4th line wing and d shifts with trouba.

Give lemmy and buch the opportunity to step up and give the team a real boost and keep the rest of the lineup the same

The other option to call up. would be Lettieri. I know he’s a 4A player (baseball reference), but maybe you call him up and put him in a position to score goals. Meaning not on the 4th line.

Coach made a great point 8-4-1 without Zibanejad. Losing Kreider out for season (at least until playoffs) is a bummer, but this is a nice opportunity for other players to play larger roles in big games.

Now we get to see what the team would’ve looked like had Kreider been traded away.

  14. SN Avatar

Filthy found a goalie; NYR had good ‘looks’ but no cigar on many of them. Tomorrow will be interesting for as much as the 3 in 4 on the road formula, it is being followed by first home game after a road trip danger zone. Throw in a noon start (noon? WTAF!) and hope they come out firing on all cylinders.
    .
Mika (-4) without Kreider last night (but Butch at ‘0’). Watching in bar while eating so hard to follow lines. Funny to say it, but Kreider has become much more responsible in 3 zones; less likely to try to make the big hit and take himself out of the play (See: Lemieux, B) and also staying out of the box relative to prior seasons. That he got hurt blocking a shot is slightly ironic but follows the same reasoning.
    .
Love to keep 4th line in tact as it is the only semblance of a bottom 6 checking line on this team. But Gotye may be answer to play with Bread and move Fast to Mika’s line w/ Butch moving to LW. Need to se what you got with these guys. Wish Gettinger had more speed, as they need more checkers and board play, less dancers (Crapsoft)

Great news James. All the best to you and your family. Is a fractured foot really an 8 week injury? Someone on TV said that last night. They were not going to run the table for the season. The Kreider injury complicates things. Staal and Zibenajad had particularly poor games last night, and Georgiev played well despite giving up 5.

  19. Old Ranger Fan Avatar

Big Game tomorrow. If they lose it could easily turn into a 4 game losing streak with the last two Cup winners coming to town. Good teams play through injuries. We will find out what they have. Their style of play still allows them to be consistently out chanced and they need superb goaltending to be competitive. They never dominate territorially so that goaltending is an afterthought. But that will not change this season. They were particularly bad with careless giveaways last night. That should be fixable. Fast was their best player last night. That shouldn’t be. And Smitty is regressing to the norm. They need to play .500 against the playoff bound teams to get in and it has to start tomorrow. YOU GOTTA BELIEVE!

Tyson “Kreider-Haul” Jost with two last night. One of the many annoyances of the Bad Karma night for the Rangers. Hayes, AV, Kreider, ugh. Just one night, though, flight path still intact. They’ve done the heavy lifting and have earned the right to back in virtue of other teams sucking wind, but they need to right the ship quickly.

  23. jpp Avatar

    Norm,

That’s why I think you don’t want to blow up the lines in response to the Kreider injury.

Just keep it rolling. They’ll be alright. They were gonna lose eventually. Good they lost, now the pressure of trying to keep it going without a loss is gone. Kreider got injured, it sucks, it happens. Keep playing hockey for the right reasons and the right way. And you’ll give Kreider the chance to come back and you’ll be adding a fresh Kreider a month down the road.

  29. Norm Merton Avatar

Agreed. They don’t have great forward depth, but they have one elite line and enough players to rotate through the Z. line to see what works on a particular night, McKegg and his speed included–I’d like to see Kravtsov up even if he’s not likely to be a difference maker. A lot of pressure on Fox and DeAngelo to keep the offense going, but I doubt they’ll notice it. And a lot of pressure on Buchnevich, who I suspect *will* notice it.

We greet each other at the 1st Tee and I immediately notice Dan is wearing a Winnipeg Jets Cap!!!! (I’m wearing my Ranger Cap). As we start to play the round, I learn the Gents are Winnipeg residents who winter in Naples.
Around the 3rd Tee Box, I say to Dan, “By the way, Thanks for the Trouba trade”
He responds, “We couldn’t be more happy to have Pionk in place of Trouba. Trouba lost the playoffs for us last year.” He then proceeded to describe a particular turnover Trouba made from behind the Winnipeg net that lead to the team’s elimination in the first round against St Louis. My hope for Trouba is they find someone to pair him with next year who’s a Fox type, and that they give him new marching orders: Stay at Home. He’s nothing special offensively other than his big shot, so leave it at that. He’s a good hitter who needs to focus on that and his defensive positioning and decision-making. I don’t know if he lost speed coming from the Jets, but he sure doesn’t have much now. This year was not the target year, anyway, so some transitional growing pains, who cares. Needs to step up to D1. Has to, because untradeable at his salary.

Hopefully lil Pepe doesn’t need the memo telling him if he’s playing with Mika/buch that his game changes. It’s no longer about creating chaos and havoc on the ice, it’s about driving the net, having your stick on the ice, chasing pucks down in the corner, quickly getting the puck to the other guys and not holding on to the puck unless it’s in the corner, and getting in front of the net and making it difficult for the goalie/D

And i think he can do all those things. His role changes, it’s not about shenanigans about being a PITA. It’s about consistently taking your shift and being the guy who makes himself the glue holding that lines effectiveness while Kreids heals

I can guess what kind of reception Hayes would get if the MSG crowd were the same as this crowd :), but I wonder if any fans will give him a hand or if the organization will do anything–he was a good player for some good NYR teams. I read that his parents, both cancer survivors, and his sibs will be in attendance.

You’re right James It’s Hart they have to solve. I think at this point in the rebuild even with Panarin and Zibanejad the philth is just an all around better and more experienced team. It pains me to say it though! Maybe just maybe today they will prove me wrong?

  152. jpp Avatar

    Want to beat hart?

The answer is simple as the same with every goalie. Drive the net, don’t take stupid easy shots that that huge goalie equipment swallows up. Go for deflection, karams off other players, pucks that hit a guy in front and create ‘rebound’ chances.

2 games against the flyers and I haven’t seen the rangers get in his business. Make it chaotic in front of him. He has had easy games against us so far.

    Change that today

    Let’s go boys

The reality of it is Philly has been building since the Rangers were competing for the Cup. And they’re a little bit ahead of where the Rangers are in year 3 of the Re-tool.
I’m not impressed by any stretch of the imagination.
They let Hextall and company keep Hart in the AHL so Brian Elliott could be their number one last year. You think we have management problems? Lol

  154. tommyG Avatar

looking at the remaining schedule for the jackets, Canes, rangers, Panthers and Islanders, I would say the Islanders have the easiest out of the four, Panthers 3rd easiest, Jackets, Canes and rangers remaining schedule is comparable to playing good teams. It will probably go down to the wire for the rangers getting the 2nd wild card spot to make the playoffs unless the rangers revert back to the way they played the 1st half of the season.

I hope even if tom Brady decides to go back to the pats. That he still announces it Lebron style. I mean this is what you wanted? To cash in on the media storm from your ‘free agency tour’. So don’t disappoint everyone feverishly watching and give ‘us’ our climax (even if you just played the entire country to click click click and make yourself an extra 10 million)

Want to know my problem with Brady and every other guy in his position (whether it be another sport, musician, actor)

With the platforms these top guys have in this day and age. And what they get glorified as. Alpha males, most well-known men in the world, the supremely athletically/physically gifted, etc etc etc

Is that they don’t do anything for the Effen world. I’m not talking little charities and that. I’m talking being a pillar of justice and calling and standing for what’s right and wrong in the world.

Instead Brady’s a playboy and trophy wife for a supermodel whos famous bc dudes played 5on1 hockey to and women develop eating disorders to try to be more like.

I can’t stand what he doesn’t stand for.
I’ll leave it at one post about it

Tommy I had looked at that and agree isles have the easiest schedule.
Rangers need to get to around the 96 point mark. Should be good enough to stay ahead of BJs and a Carolina team that doesn’t have either of their goalies at the moment..
