Kappanen got hurt last night.
Letierri scored 3 goals last night. Future Ranger, Jack Studnicka also scored 3 goals last night. Joey Keane had 1.
I had chicken for dinner. I wore navy blue under armour sweatpants to bed….I saw a land scaping truck on the highway while driving to work…my coffee cup is 3/4 of the way full…I’m listening to an audiobook by Dean Koontz….
BDL- any other meaningless tid bits we can throw at people for the day? lol
I love how ESPN is always late to the NHL party…article today: “IS LUNDQVIST STILL THE NUMBER 1?”…..Still pretty impressive for a sports reporting site that probably thinks Callahan is still the captain of the team….
And speaking of articles, Brooks has a fun one today. Even uses the term “narrative” to give a secret shout out to his favorite Rangers blog 🙂
I’m trying here James. Ilb did not give us much to work with this morning.
I agree with Brooks on one thing. Unless there is a contract in place, the UFAs will be gone by February 24th. That may include McKegg, who may be attractive to someone as a depth forward in April. Fast has no movement clauses in his contract, ditto McKegg. Kreider has a modified NTC with 11 no trade teams.
I’ll post my numbers tomorrow. It’s going to be very difficult to re-sign everyone, but not impossible. Brooks’ buyout/move to AHL numbers are correct.
In return the Rangers get.
A late first, a third, a sixth, and a so so prospect. Sign me up!😒
They can’t practice until Thursday. Any news on Panarin?
The way I see it the rangers are years away from competing and will have to do a better job of drafting going forward. There not going to get much out of any trade they make. It will be picks and mediocre prospects.
Actually BDL your mentioning of Keane is perfect segue into a point I wanted to make about the Brooks article.
If they are in fact looking at things in the way he suggests, then you have to consider that there really isn’t a replacement for Kreider in the immediate future while you’ve got Keane and Nils….fwiw…
Fast has no movement clauses in his contract……Of course he does…
You have to be realistic what you can get for a player.
Let me be more specific. Let’s pretend the Rangers are in the playoffs at the moment, and Kreider is available. Would you give up Chytil, or Kravtsov, or Miller for Kreider as a rental? I wouldn’t. Would you give up any of them if he agrees on a $7Mx7 contract extension right away? Debatable, but I wouldn’t.
No, JamesG, he doesn’t. Bad wording by me.
Most interesting poll result
How could the goalie whisperer garner a vote in the 5/6 range?
Thought for sure he’d be 9/10 for 100%
Thank god that grader wasn’t one of my college professors
I gave Benny a 10. No other score for me
I’ve been making that point about DeAngelo since the summer. Fox, Nils, and Keane make DeAngelo expendable.
Fast does not have any no movement clauses. He has NO movement clauses.
Benoit Allaire actually averaged 9 out of 10. Whoever ranked him at 5 must be the islanders fan 🙂
Columbus may actually be willing to trade Josh Anderson according to the Athletic. What do you give up for a guy who scored 27 goals last year and has 4 points this season?
I suppose you have to take into consideration that he played last season with the best player now on the Rangers’ roster.
Anyone that gives Allaire less than a ten is either a doom and gloomer or an idiot. Sorry.
BDL I haven’t read anything youve posted here in years. But that’s a strong point about Fox, Keane and Nils 🙂
How in the playoffs are they, ilb. If they are just fighting to make the playoffs, then no, I don’t trade any of the guys you mentioned for him. But if they are a cup contender, yes, all but Chytil would be available for Kreider.
We stopped the nickname thread for this?!
😉
How did glass get a 5? I thought everything was his fault?
BDl- I wouldn’t be so fast on DeAngelo. His numbers are great, but his FA status is attractive in terms of keeping him. He isn’t eligible for UFA status until after 2022-2023 season. If you bridge him for two years with reasonable numbers, you have some time to see how Nils or Keane are progressing. If either of them is ready, DeAngelo is a very attractive trading piece to someone looking for an offensive D-man with some RFA years left on his contract.
Ilb,
Carp has a good article on Morgan Barron today. In case you want to link it here.
It’s the reasonable numbers thing that’s the problem, Ilb. Will his numbers be reasonable. Everybody here seems to think between 4/5. That’s to rich for me. Especially for a one year guy.
You can’t give up everyone on the roster on hopes for the current/future prospects. Only a relatively small percentage will ever play a meaningful number of NHL games in their professional careers.
Ilb, spot on with Beverly. Keep him till his replacement is ready at least. Bridge, 2 yrs is what he’d get at arbitration anyway
I’d offer $3.25M per year for 2 year bridge. Arbitration would get him higher numbers, but it’s only one year deal. Back to square on for him. What if his numbers go down? What if he gets hurt? There ways to deal with it.
On the results… (they post the average at the bottom of each)
Jimmy D carries over a lot of his NY Bricks baggage. Personally I gave him a 6, agree with Wicky he’s been hands off and willing to pay up when needed to.
Ruff definitely a bow-wow. For me it was most about his failure to get SkjeL back on track. A lot of hate for the professional scouts though I gave that group a 6 as I think for the most part our pro-level pickups have been ok. Euro and amateur scouts no love from me. Been way too many misses.
Simon, if DeAngelo elects for arbitration, Gorton will be the one to determine whether it’s a 1 or 2 year deal.
Ilb – what do you think the odds of D’Anger getting an offer sheet?
Below average, Beezle.
Beezle,
Very true. There will be more guys that don’t make than do. But that does not mean you should ignore the organization’s strengths and weaknesses. D prospects are a strength. And giving a one year success big money when you have possible controllable replacements near by is not an easy move to make. I’d rather expand Fox’s role, and have faith that one of Nils, or Keane hits, than give DeAngelo big money and years.
in reference to Brooks where was the narrative in which Rangers trade strategies based on being a playoff contender
An offer sheet for DeAngelo would be great for the Rangers. It would have to be a big one for them not to match, and if it was, the compensation would be to great to pass up.
I thought the pro scouts have a decent job, the amateur ones…yeesh
Anyone read that Vince guy’s article today?
Have done…sorry
You don’t add with the idea of making the playoffs this year, you add with the idea of making the playoffs next year. You don’t trade for rentals. You trade for young veteran controllable players.
Trying to follow this line: if you’re in the playoffs you don’t trade Chytil to get Kreider (at 7×7), but if you aren’t in it and might be next season, you keep him at 7×7 and trade away [ ] to get it done? Not agreeing or disagreeing but do I have that right? (Same for Kravtsov, Miller)
for the record, I gave Allaire a 10 😊.
I’ll try to answer what I think you were asking Norm. They were two different things. One in which Kreider was on another team and the rangers were looking to add him. And one speaking of this current ranger team. In the first one, the Rangers are cup contenders. I would be will to trade any of the top prospects, minus Chytil, in order to add Kreider and go for it. In the second scenario, I am looking to add to the current teams nucleus. I don’t want to sell off anything that is not nailed down. That guarantees at least one more season of no playoffs. I’m conceding that there will be no playoffs this season, but I’m not looking to concede next season as well. So yes, sign Kreider, and add to him with the idea of making the playoffs starting next season.
Don’t think anyone posted these comments from Athletic NHL player poll, question on ‘who is dirtiest player’, won by Marchand:
What’s reasonable have to do with anything? People around here have been saying for months that regardless of what’s reasonable there HAS to be cap casualties. I was just going by their guidelines….
It is my feeling that trading away Kreider for futures waived the white flag for next year as well. It also takes Zibanejad one season closer to UFA, and Panarin another year older. I see the question raised as to what would you pay Zibanejad to keep him locked up long term. Well if I’m Zibanejad, do I want to sign up for a perpetual rebuild? If I’m Panarin, don’t I want some help?
I feel that this next month leading up to the deadline is a defining month for Gorton and JD. There are some very difficult decisions that need to be made. Aside from Kreider, you have Strome and DeAngelo. Those two can be pushed to the summer, but those decisions are going to need to be made. Then you have Buchnevich and Skjei. I think Buchnevich has played his way out of future plans, and I’m still undecided on Skjei, though leaning towards I’ve seen enough.
No comprende. What are all the Groups?
“Any news on Panarin?”
Panarin’s eating octopus salad in Mexico looking all healthy and sht…
https://i.ibb.co/fGtsxWf/FB-IMG-1580226108385.jpg
OK – assume they trade THE for picks/prospects. Perhaps they have eyes on another UFA? Would you want any of these guys and at what cost? Table here
Twerp. Too frail. He’ll never make it.
I am actually surprised with the Dolan grading. I thought he would get 9s and 10s. He stays out of the way and lets the Rangers brass do whatever they want (as far as I know).
And that’s the cycle we’ve spoken about them needing to break, BDL. Where do you draw the line as it pertains to signing and extending your own guys? Can easily become Ottawa if you’re not committing to guys because they’re 27-28 and want long term deals.
Zibanejad- is he a guy they don’t know if they’ll extend? Maybe it seems premature but organizations need to take it under consideration. Kreider is his LW. They have terrific chemistry. You take that away and take a couple steps back and what message does that send? What’s it do to Panarin’s motivation?
So then you part with Zibanejad…then what? someone else will be 27-28 years old at that point. trade them too? for futures?
In a sense, that’s saying ‘we don’t want to commit to these guys as they get older’ and yet you signed Panarin to an expensive long term deal with the faith that he’s going to be productive by the time the team is ready? I don’t know how that’s smart business.
Dolan text to JD: “John, are we making Playoffs or no? Request immediate answer. Have to order or cancel 10o,000 lbs. Roast Beef by Feb 1, latest.
Beezle,
Looking at that list, Kreider is going to get paid!
Beez
that’s why I’ve been saying there isn’t any help coming via free agency. We can talk hidden treasure prospects and offer sheets for RFAs until we are blue in the face but it isn’t realistic.
You gonna pay 30 y/0 Hoffman the same contract as Kreider would get? How about Dadanov? Or are we making Lemieux LW2 and bringing in MacArthur or Vesey?
Before the this season started you could have said, don’t worry about losing Kreider, Kravtsov will replace him. Now?
Thanks, bdl. Follow-up, what player(s) do you put in the brackets: “you keep Kreider at 7×7 and trade away [____] to get it done.” In the other scenario–you are in the playoffs–what Ranger equivalents do you give up to get him?
I’m assuming, by the way, that next season has make-playoffs/lose-in-first-round as its goal. Anything above that would be a Cup run, no?
To me it’s not about “your own guys”, it is about ROI. Can you find someone at less of a cap hit that does similar things on the ice that allows you to then put extra dollars towards guys that are harder to replace and roster holes to be filled (yeah, I said it).
Rangers made thier FA splash last year….. only ones could see them inquiring about depending on price would be Clifford, Watson, Kassian and Boyle big bodies for bottom 6 roles
BDL I’m sure you’re referring to the production but the physical edge and the actual hole as it pertains to the LW position is just as much of an issue if not more so than the points.
Wick
be that as it may, you can go on and on forever in a cycle of showing older guys the door for less expensive options.
That’s what I was referring to when I said ‘pay your own guys’ A team that’s constantly turning over their roster- especially in the top 6- is usually spinning it’s wheels.
They can replace some of what Kreider does with a small skill guy or they can opt for a bottom 6 guy like a Lemieux who does a few of the things that he does also. Where I get sour is the concept of trading Kreider for a young Kreider. As if guys like that or top 6 players in in general grow on trees.
Bobby,
Kassian is close to an extension, Boyle is a guy they could have had this year for under a million. I think Watson would be a solid bottom six addition. I don’t expect much as far as acquisitions this summer.
Once you get to the Playoffs, if you have a goalie playing totally out of his head, just about any team can end up in the finals.
Guys that aren’t special that can be replaced on ice for less (in theory, I understand there are no move clauses etc)….Buchnevich, SkjeL, Fast, hank, smith, staal…these are all guys that on ice can be replaced with lower cap hits without significant, if any, drop off.
Zibanejad, panarin, Lemieux, Georgiev, igor, fox lindgren are all difficult if not impossible to replace on ice vs their cap hit (ie a replacement will probably cost more to give same results)
Strome and Beverly are the tricky ones, and depending on which Kreider possibly him (which is exactly part of the problem with what to do with Kreider)
A thing about Zibanejad, the other day it came up about if he wanted panarin money folks would pay it…I’m 100% out on him at that price, no way imo does he double his salary or more. He’s an $8-$9 mil per guy at the most to me.
James
You’re talking to the wrong guy about treading water, I’m been saying that for a long time as you are aware.
My point is it doesn’t have to be our own guys, as long as you have quality nhl players in spots they should be in. I could literally care less if they’re home grown or not.
I understand it’s a big IF here, but, to my ROI post above, if you can replace Kreider with a similarly physical forward that can put up similar numbers for less, I’m all over it.
It’s why I have a “cap” on the Kreider aav.
Do you trade a bit more physicality for a few less goals?
Do you trade less physicality for a few more goals?
To me the answer to those questions are in the make up of the rest of the team.
Those guys all fit the type I think Gorton is looking for… Boyle may be revisited due to evolving center depth and struggles of Anderson /Howden .
Norm, I think progress is generally the hope. Right now things are very similar to last season at this time.
So for me, I would consider a wild card spot and one round to be progress.
Consider:
2006 team. Swept by the Devils.
2007 lost in the Semi’s in 6 games came real close to going 7 or winning.
Made the post season the next couple of years, guys got experience, made a big coaching change, the following year missed and then went on to the Conf Final runs, SCF etc.
Norm,
I think the obvious answers are Buchnevich, and Skjei. You could also attempt to trade Smith by adding a sweetener. Say Smith, and Reunnan, for a 6th rounder. More difficult of a decision would be to move on from Strome and/or DeAngelo.
The second part of your question. I would give up one of Nils, Miller, or Kravtsov, plus a second. Would not add a first if I’m giving up one of my top prospects.
Side note…did you guys see keane’s fastest skater time in the AHL All-Star game was faster than Kreider’s inthe Nhl game?
Treading water!!
Wick I think you absolutely sacrifice some skill for the sake of some physicality. But in my opinion you do it by moving a Skjei or Buchnevich. That kind of trade is more of a roster adjustment whereas a Kreider trade is a set back.
I give up a first to clear a full cap hit of a more significant $$$ amount (smith and above) as long as its lottery protected.
There has to be a reason though to do it as in adding or keeping a significant piece, I don’t do it just for the sake of the space alone.
Is it grossly simplifying things to say: keep Kreider if you’re going for it all next season, think about trading him if that’s two years out?
I gotcha Wick. But just so I’m clear. “Pay your own”= guys currently on your roster. The leaders. the guys that understand what the organization is, know the coaches, know the system, have an established role and a bit of a resume. That’s all I was referring to.
Removing those guy and bringing in new faces isn’t always the best strategy year after year. Treading water or not.
James
Yes,skill on this roster is fine and if you add the krapsoft skill to it, even better. They need more physicality up front and d awareness on the back end.
I guess with Kreider I feel like you can add guys with more consistent physicality without a lot of goal drop off. I’m all for signing Kreider, just don’t think he’s worth the numbers some folks are throwing around.
Norm,
I don’t agree with that thought process.
You keep Kreider if you believe he is part of the build. You trade Kreider if you don’t feel like he is part of the solution.
Don’t think so, Norm. But I don’t share the majority POV as I am not particularly worried about a decline in Kreider at 12:01am on his 30th bday…I think that he can be part of a plan in 3-5 years same as Panarin and others.
I just approved Beezle’s post at 10:35. Had to clean it up a bit
Wick with Anderson actually being made available I think he’s a great fit. If you could subtract Buchnevich from the top 9 and add Anderson I think his production goes up and his physicality is a nice upgrade. That’s what you’d hope for anyhow.
Plus knowing he has produced along side Panarin and seeing as how Strome-Panarin need a RW who can work the boards and shoot the puck I’d say it’s got to be tempting.
As far as Buchnevich goes, he is a nice player, but is there anything he does that you can’t do without?
“Panarin’s eating octopus salad in Mexico looking all healthy ….”
That’s good news? He’s gonna end up at NYP with food poisoning and IV fluids upon arrival.
HAHA..Bezzle.
Everyone knows you gotta go to Greece to get the octopus, ILB.
You keep Kreider if you believe he is part of the build and the price is reasonable. If its not the build is impacted and less funds are available to address other weaknesses.
Kevin Hayes’ production is pretty much on par with what he’s done in NY, and that is less than 50 points per season. Plus, he is having his worst +/- season. Just imagine what we would say if he was signed by Gorton to a $7.14Mx7 contract. Forget Kreider, we would be looking to dump more players next year.
I would love to keep kreider but looking at the big picture concerning the salary cap it isn’t worth 7×7. Out with the old, in with new, rebuild continues.
My point is, they need to sit down and look at Kreider situation similarly. Without having any emotional attachment to a player. He is unlikely to bring more than he is bringing to this team at the moment. Does he bring enough to warranty $7Mx7 contract? When I say enough, that should include not only his production, but also his speed, net presence, and physicality. What is he worth to them as a mentor to their youngsters. I believe the answer is yes, he’s worth it. But, admittedly, I think I do have a bit of an emotional attachment. Kevin Hayes? Not so much.
I think current Kreider is worth what Lee signed. This time last year I did not think current Hayes brought enough to justify the kind of deal he wanted. Some said he should get paid based on what he would eventually do. Some suggested in the right position he would be a 60 point guy consistently. I didn’t feel that was the case and so far I’m 100% right in that assessment.
Kreider is a consistent 50 point guy with a lot of attributes aside from his production. I think he’s worth it and I think he will maintain his worth for at least 5 years if not a full 7.
Ilb
Exactly…vibin’
What did lee sign for? What is evander Kane’s contract?
I don’t know if Lee is worth what he’s signed for. Barzal will cost them big bucks next season.
$7M for 7 both
Oy hoping this furniture delivery truck can make it up my road.. propane dude said it was kinda sketchy. Counting on the new couch for Stuporbowl viewing 🙂
I thin the next couple of months may tell us whether we are in a rebuild on a water treading mode.
BTW if the timer was legit Keane has impressive speed because Kreider’s time was in the pack at the NHL skills competition.
ILB- also want to mention about Hayes- this is usually the time of year that he will inevitably wind up nursing a LBI and his production will plateau. My guess is he will finis the year with about 46 points.
It’s a good debate if you’re talking pure production though, considering that Kreider will probably finish with about the same.
Ilb
Thanks
7×7 is over priced for lee imo
It’s good for kane, and I don’t think Kreider gives you want kane does on the ice. I don’t think Kreider is worth what kane is.
I don’t want to get rid of Kreider but I don’t want to overpay him either due to other areas of need and upcoming contracts.
I have a cap limit with what to pay Kreider to keep him.
Kreider’s production doesn’t always end up on the score sheet. Net presence, how many goals were scored with him in front of the goalie. But! Can someone else do it?
BDL – maybe a better way to think about Zib’s future contract (and perhaps THE too) is.. what % of the cap are you willing to give to him (initially)? That gets around the issue of wtf the cap will be in two seasons as well as market for centers.
I don’t care about the term, I Cate about the cap hit
I Cate and I care
What the number, Wicky?
Ilb – I think you can also say – can any of Kreider’s positives (say net front) be picked up by another player, not necessarily his replacement.
Ilb
Exactly and exactly, it’s not always about his stat line and it’s also 100% about can someone do it with similar production for less to address other areas.
Ilb
Low 6s…6.5 at max.
Kreider 303 points in 508 games
Kane 445 in 697
Lee 287 in 484.
Kane had those years early in his career where he was injured often and had behavioral issues of some sort that got him traded out of ‘Peg otherwise his numbers would probably be higher.
At the end of the day the production is pretty equal when you consider the number of games played. I don’t see why Kreider would be worth any less than those two guys regardless of which has the physical edge or drops the gloves. That stuff means more to fans than the actual GMs..Fair market value is fair market value..
Both players, James, are very durable.
Norm, you’re right but Hayes has /had a slight pattern of lower body issues mid year that seemed to coincide with a drop off in production. Not a dramatic one but a drop off nevertheless.
Kreider as we all know goes hot and cold throughout the year every year. It really is a good debate.
This new guy from LoHud is working with the Cap number for next season as a $82.5M. That’s his estimation. Respectfully disagree. It went up by $2M last year because they were very sensitive about the issue with escrow while debating the contract extension. It was still a $2.5% increase. Next season most of the front loaded contracts will be winding down before the Seattle expansion. I wouldn’t be surprised if they use full 5% escalator, but I used $3.5M increase in my estimation.
Beezle to go a step further in the point you just made, are you willing to have x amount tied up in your top six if it consists of Panarin, Zibanejad, Strome, Kreider and the two others that fill in that top 6.
If you give Kreider 7×7 and let’s say for the sake of convo that Zibanejad takes 8.5 that’s already 26.5 million tied up in 3 of your top 6. Some teams have had to get crafty to manage that % of cap space tied up in it’s top players. Whether it’s now or a few years down the road the Rangers are going to have to deal with that issue. That was decided the moment they gave Panarin his contract.
Kreider’s durability should be helped by his decreasing hits/60 as he ages (not that the stat is all that reliable, just that it’s decreasing). Hayes, weirdly, is on the rise in that category.
I watched the Caps-Habs game last night. Caps were without Ovechkin ( 1 game suspension for skipping the AS festivities, ugh…) and they were out of synch early. Won 4-2. Window is still wide open.
In a scenario where they do not trade Georgiev, at what point would the Rangers have to bring up another goalie to play in order to have that goalie eligible to be left unprotected in the expansion draft?
ok, we have 3 days before they play. i have my numbers tomorrow, if that thread gets too long, we will play a CBA Quiz to widen your horizons 🙂 That should keep us alive through Friday.
Ilb
He also did it at 83.5 mil in the article…he adjusted his numbers for that on the fly.
Out of sink! Love it. Out of sink, onto ice. (please, no offense, it just came out funny)
James
As I said, I think lee is overpaid. I think kane does more on ice than either Kreider or lee.
Subsequently I think kane is the standard at 7×7 (again with Kreider I don’t care about term and I think the rangers can use that to their advantage). With lee being overpaid at that price point Kreider would be too for me.
Just my opinion of course.
JamesG, Shesterkin will be exempt, they will protect Georgiev. Any AHL goalie under contract for 2021-22 ( or a RFA with QO in place ) will do. There is no NHL games requirement for a goalie.
Norm, what are you talking about? 🙂
Just the typo/autocorrect “in sync” becoming “in sink”. Humorous to English nerds like me.
Oops, never mynde.
LOL, If Kreider doesn’t sign for 500k less than Kane, Wicky is going to lose sleep over the next 6-7 years.
Pretty funny exercise
I’ll send wicky sleeping tea from Ukraine.
I liked this. NHL execs evalutate fan trade proposals
https://theathletic.com/1560427/2020/01/28/who-says-no-nhl-executives-evaluate-your-trade-proposals/
I know these guys are all professionals, but how does Zibanejad react when Kreidsdale is traded. Does it effect his on ice performance, asking for a friend?
James
Oh yeah, that’s it sooo terrible. 🙄
Please forgive me for giving an honest opinion that you don’t agree with.
By all means resort to petty sarcasm to compensate for lack of a simple “good point maybe so” or the like.
Follow this post up now with a post of your own playing off your sarcastic post and making it sound like your the sarcasm victim or someone else besides you initiated
😘
Sorry, I forgot….lol
I’ve listened to about half a dozen pods since the ASG and everyone of them dogging the metro division and the lack of personality and “good” players represented.
Do they not understand the rangers might be trying to trade Kreider and they’re killing his value?
By good, I assume they mean star players
According to Wicky I’m worth 500k less than him too apparently!
And if C3 gives you that Tea my best advice is decline his offer to put honey in it…people keep winding up knocked up every time that stuff is around.
Also Wick- when you actually make a good point, I’ll say “good point.
Just admit you like Kane more because he’s more physical
🙂
(s)
“lol”
“haha”
No surprise that execs might study fan trades. It is, after all, the entertainment business.
6. The New York Rangers send goalie Alexandar Georgiev and a third-round pick to Toronto for Kasperi Kapanen and a second-round pick
– @JustLouG
As James Mirtle has reported, the Maple Leafs have inquired about Georgiev. He makes a ton of sense for them. But if you’re trading Kapanen, you might want to get a defenseman back instead of a backup goalie.
Exec: “Toronto says no. I don’t know why people think the Rangers are going to get a massive windfall for Georgiev. He has mediocre numbers, a mediocre record, and having three goalies erodes any leverage they have.”
Mediocre numbers?! Mediocre record?! HA! They obviously didn’t read this blog! Georgiev is the greatest and we will only trade him for someone like Nylander no less! 🙂
LOL, James… honey power!
James
Ha, I don’t like kane more than Kreider.
I think kane does more impactful things on the ice than Kreider does and subsequently I would pay kane more than Kreider. Sorry if logic bothers you there.
Feel free to continue to misinterpret though.
Lol, you’re adorable.
LOL, C3.
Oh, and I forgot…called it!
I thought it was petty sarcasm. Now it’s misinterpretation? Now you just sound like Norm and BDL. ; )
CK is getting 7×7 the Rangers may just not be the team to give it to him. But don’t worry, I know a doctor that can write you a script for ambien when it happens!
That’s funny, I thought you sounded like norm as well, just completely incapable of saying hey, that’s a solid point of view whether you agree with it or not .
Instead choosing to be antagonistic and petty sarcasm.
It’s fine though, as I stated earlier it’s predictable your 2:12 was undoubtedly coming.
James – I would allocate as below. () based on 83.5 cap. Personally I look at them as having 2/3 of two first lines and would prefer to play those two lines a little bit more and skip the traditional third line, replacing with two fourths – perhaps one a little bit better or just a different role than the other. I think that works out well for developing the kids, two kids and one vet for guidance/know how.
Goalies: no more than 9%, though near term could be as low as 7%. (7.5M )
Forwards: 59% (49.3)
line 1a: 24% (20.0M)
line 1b: 22% (18.4M)
line 4a: 8% (6.7M)
line 4b: 5% (4.2M)
Defense: 32% (26.7)
pair 1: 18% (15.0M)
pair 2: 10% (8.4M)
pair 3 : 4% (3.3M)
Never at fault and can’t stand retorts in any way.
I hope your Kreider gets signed by the rangers for $56 mil over 7 years.

Hilarious, I had one of those same number charts like you the other day.
My numbers were a bit different than yours but great work.
I rated Dolan zero because “not interfering” is not the same as “don’t give a sh1t”. I want an owner who wants to win a Cup, like Mike Illich, or Rocky Wirtz , and then goes after it. Dolan just wants to make money selling overpriced beer and sammiches…
I gave Stogypuss a zero because it’s the lowest score there is.
Olga, you mean Puppers and sandos, right?
Beez
Are you basing that off of the success of the better teams in the league or just off of what you think is smart cap allocation? Just curious.
Wicky – too many fans get caught up in $X for player Y. First figure out how you want to distribute the dollars between fowards, defense and goal, then between lines and pairs. Once you have that you can put a much more realistic (hopefully) number on what you can pay people. Oviously not set in stone, but straying too far gets you in trouble down the road, kind of like how much we put into goalies the past 6 years.
James – just my view of what would work well for the NYR over the next three or four years. As the kids mature and hopefully are ready to move up line wise, you’ll naturally shift into a more traditional 1/2/3/4th line breakout as the very cheap kids become just cheap/good value and push out some of the high priced talent at the top now.
Beezle
100%. I had identical numbers on the goalies as you. Our forward lines were a bit different, d was closer.
Is it that time of the month or something? You guys bicker too much…
Cccp
Lol
Cccp
We’re not bickering, do we need to add you to the text message group?
New couch in the house! Delivery guy said they just made it up the hill. And sadly, I was the only customer to tip them today. Guess I’m just old school.
Attention, class, to sound like Norm not only do you have to lie instead of disagreeing, you must also do so in such a way as to make the person who has the correct opinion feel so belittled as to explode in a fit of gaslighting. Further, you must use arcane constructions such as “as to explode” to make sure it appears that you know everything there is to know. To achieve proper pomposity, some alliteration never hurts. Yes, you are allowed to admit you don’t know anything about prospects or cap rules, say, but first you must make sure nobody is looking, else you be accused of not knowing everything after all. To maintain the appearance of know-it-all-ism is no easy task, my children–I’d say more but I’m late for my Mensa meeting, of which I am Supreme Commander. Oh, yeah, and use “whom” properly–that’ll get ’em.
My ex-wife had Mensa meetings every month.
Carcillo…😃
Beezle
I actually had my 4th line making more than my 3rd by a bit.
Notice now that I’ve outed C3 about his baby making Ukrainian honey he’s checking to see who is on their period.
Talk about conspiracies!
Lmao, James! 😎
I have a checklist ovah heah!
Checklist…lmao
Czechlist?
Czechleast?
Beezle
Not sure that it matters but here’s the numbers I had from the other day (I based mine on 83 mil cap).
Forward lines
1-23 mil
2-14 mil
3-6 mil
4-8 mil
51 mil
Defence
1-13 mil
2-7 mil
3-4 mil
24 mil
Goalers
8 mil
83 mil total
Beezle
Did you post earlier you had Jesper Fast delivered to your house?
😉
Stick tap to orr…where ever he is.
Wicky they are pretty close – you give a little more to forwards than I do and yours is slightly more traditionally balanced. I just look at Breadman/Strome, THE/Zib and say if we had two decent RW then we have 1a and 1b for a few years at least. It might be a little bit light on those two lines, but if you get goal down to 7% its most of the way there.
Wick, what makes you think the Cap will only go up by $1.5M next season? It went up by $2M last year and everyone was up in arms.
Wicky thanks, I’m going to call it ‘The Legend’
Beezle
Yeah. Nice work on yours. I look at forwards at top 3, middle 6, bottom 3, but I want the bottom 3 to be impact, not left overs or scrubs.
My D is similar, more of a top 4 and bottom pair.
Goalers are clearly a good spot to save $$$$ imo.
In my numbers 13th forward is figured in 4th line and 7th D is figured in 3rd pair.
Ilb
Ive seen a few 82.5 for next season and some 83.5 so I picked the middle.
I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s 85 but I’m erring on the low side.
Beezle
Bwahahahaha!
I’m here for you 😉
I got to name James dog too so I’m honoured!
Take it as a + or – but as of now the only young’n that could potentially cost them significantly to keep is Adam Fox. Kakko Howden and Chytil have a long way to go before their salary becomes significant enough to make the cap hit complicated.
BS commercial with young child saying: ‘it felt like an elephant on my chest…’ Get real with the phony cynical adult heart-tugging.
Love that 1952 rotary phone.
$82.5M would mean the league had no increase in revenue from last year. I doubt that. And this is without even talking about using the escalator.
Ilb
I’m just using the lower numbers I saw because it allows for a little wiggle room opposed to me overestimating and having to go back and reconfigure everything
James
Agree
A few late reporting districts have pulled Dolan’s average down to 4, that or Olga is voting again lol
FYI, besides the US, there were responses from Canada, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, UK
Coos I used that phone when I want to leave the Matrix after taking a few blue pills 🙂
I used the escalator at Lord&Taylor just last week.
Like Alice when she’s ten feet tall?
🐇
Coos broke the blog
Every time I see talk of Strome it says “how much of that is due to skating with Panarin?” Do they forget he did similar with no Breadman last year?
I think he’s a keeper, and there’s no debate for me. Same with Lemieux.
I think the rest comes down to almost a straight choice between Kreider and De Angelo. Georgiev and Fast are gone.
I’m sure there is a way to keep them all but that would require hometown discounts on each one and I don’t see that happening.
The closer we get to the deadline the further we get from Kreider!
I see Brooks saw my post of Kreider to the Coyotes to team up with Opie the Victim!
