Gorton will probably get two 3rds in 2028 and 2029, two 7ths in 2030 and 2031 and a 40 year old prospect from Africa for Hate.
*Hayes
Gravy, it doesn’t really matter with the scouting staff the Rangers have. They couldn’t screw up more of they worked at it. Which they obviously don’t.
Didn’t the Zucc haters wanted him moved in December for a 5th rounder?
I guess that I don’t know what people expected for Zucc. Did someone think they would get a 2nd and Milo Heiskenen for him? Now you root for Dallas. Both those picks could turn into first rounders. Not likely, of course. They can always sign him in the Summer.
The never-happening conditions must’ve been for retaining salary.
Tym, you know dang well that neither of those conditions will come to pass. They’ll be lucky to make the playoffs this year.
And the 3rd rounder is for 2020.
Big Z little u double c arello. Oslo does Dallas.
People knocking the trade, please tell us what the return should have been.
And obviously no one is giving Gorton what he wants for Haze or it wouldn’t be at the wire.
All along most felt that Zucc was going to go for a second, and a B level prospect. They got the second, and instead of a B level prospect they took an extra pick.
Gorton. Sucks. What’s next? Hayes for a 5th rounder and a B level prospect? Turn off the lights on Broadway. Our future looks like crap.

@HockeyStatMiner
Rangers now retaining Spooner and Zuccarello. This means NYR can only retain salary with one more (max) traded contract between now and July 1st. Re: trading Hayes or McQuaid, and/or and June 2019 draft weekend trades.
I’ve got a lot of concerns about Hajek and some about Andersson, but I don’t see how you can say Gorton sucks because of this deal? BTW, Dallas is in 1st place. They could sneak into the WCF.
Never thought Topo would get a big haul but this is a little disappointing given the Bran Boyle trade.
True worth of the greatest Ranger ever has finally been revealed. Not shocking but still a little upsetting.
Zucc is a legitimate 2nd liner, borderline 1st liner. I don’t see why Gorton couldn’t get one 1st liner.
1st rounder*
When Dallas wins 2 rounds and Zucc resigns there Gorton will be a genius for getting two 1st r.p.’s for Zucc.
I fail to understand what more anyone expected to get for Zucc. They got a 2ns rounder and instead of another contract, they took a pick. Did someone think they were going to get a player off the Dallas roster as well? As for Duclair…………Columbus was selling low after Torts wrecked him earlier in the week. Dzingel is younger. I really think most of the online angst is because people liked Zucc, not because of what he returned.
TYM- I agree. Also, let’s remember the comments after we picked Kravtsov. The knee-jerk reaction is Gorton and OTB Gordie suck.
Age doesn’t really matter since both Zucc and Dzingel are rentals.
I would’ve liked to have gotten a player like Hintz, plus a 2nd. All in all – I trust Gorton and Co know the market better than we do. It is what it is. All the rumors of us getting an R1 and good prospect just lead to disappointment.
The Duke can’t find a permanent home. Tells you something.
Zookie won’t sign in Dallas. Way too far from Oslo.
I thought two guaranteed 2nds would have been fair considering the other trades made.

GOod point on kravtzov pick Tom ..lot of same hysteria
I’d take a 7th round prospect from any other team in the league over a 3rd round pick from the Rangers’ scouting staff.
The only good thing about this trade is it’s highly possible that the Stars could wind up being a lottery team….
We are doomed to root not for ourselves, but for Tampa and Dallas thanx to our front office machinations. That’s what it comes down to. Pathetic.
Not much use for Hobbits these days. I guess a 2nd and a 3rd is about it.
Well, I’d have to imagine Hayes nets a better return. I think.
Bwahahahaha
Dallas to Gorton, Feb 28th: ‘We’re sending him back by return mail. You said he was 5’8.
Wow…people talking like kravtsov is a sure thing.
That amuses me greatly.
Kravtsov was a better pick than wahlstrom but let’s not get carried away with a player that hasn’t played an nhl or even AHL game yet.
Hayes will go for two conditional 1st round picks. If Hayes plays at least 5 more games this season for them then the first one turns into a 4th rounder and if hayes gets at least one assist them the other one turns into a 7th rounder. Plus the aforementioned 40 year old prospect from Africa.
As far as the zucc trade…return seems about right imo.
You always want more but realistically seems appropriate.
It’s curious to me that no bodies came back. I wonder if we see a few “little” deals involving players by the deadline Monday.
If we don’t, we know to expect free agency to give us at least 3 players.
I could tell by Hazie’s subtly dismissive attitude towards his father on ‘Beginnings’ that he would never have the gumption and verve to live up to his billing.
Hayes will bag a 1st and B prospect nothing more hopefully nothing less.
Not many sure things Wicky but lot of folks overreacted like Kravtsov was not a first rounder or they never heard of him
I think someone needs to put that shayna chick in some sort of watch…she’s posting zucc video after video on twitter
My guess is a lot of casual fans hadn’t heard a lot about him since he played in Russia.
He was a projected first rounder…is this place for casual fans?
Are we rebuilding or still tearing down the old structure?
Dallas adds Lovejoy and Zucc. Hopefully, they keep adding.
So much for driving up his value. Odds are neither pick turns into a first rounder. Rangers will replace him with a UFA this summer regardless of Kravtsov’s progress or lack of
Just got home from crazy work week. A lot of miles. Had a feeling I’d get home to a lot of stuff starting to go down.
Everyone suggested Gorton move some guys early to be smart and not be forced to juggle 3 or 4 deals at once. Dallas obviously wanted him most. And although they are only picks and not a near NHL ready player (most likely), it says the rangers didn’t like the stars available prospects, and that they still felt this deal had the best chance of really panning out.
Shrewd move to send him to Dallas. Rangers have incentive for Tampa to win the cup, trading Zucc to an eastern conference just strengthens tampa’s Opponents, instead he sends him to Dallas with WCF stipulations and a resign. Gorton probably has an inkling that Dallas will try hard to resign Zucc bc they have been trying to trade for him for at least a year and half. Ranger fans now have a vested interest in both brackets.
I’ll pen a see you later, maybe? post to Zuccy tomorrow, but honestly and I am younger, but I’d say Zucc is a top 15 ranger of all-time. Just based on the success the team had in his time, his production, skill, creativity and competitiveness. I mean again honestly, name 15 rangers since 1990 who have given the rangers a better tenure of service than Zucc has
Dallas is done. Nill has said as much. They have no cap room left. So Hayes is next up…….although Pittsburgh lost 2 defensemen tonight so they become a possible destination for McQuaid. I think Zucc is back in a Blueshirt next season.
They are also only 1 point into the playoffs and could miss, and have an aging roster with highly paid players. Their window is about to close in the next couple years also.
And last thing, if Kreider will sign for 5 yrs at 6.5mil, a team would have to offer a player just as or nearly as valuable for that period of time. Seriously if Kreider will sign for that, Boston would have to give me McAvoy+ or Nashville fabbro/tolvanen/1st or Winnipeg roslovic/niku/lemeuix.
Boston should do it, he’d Resign. Otherwise just sign Kreider ourselves and the Bs will never get a chance. Make the Bs only chance to get Kreider to trade for him now. (Your welcome Gorts)
I think Zucc is back too. And that would make not getting a 1st in the deal easier to swallow.
But I’m a sentimental fool who reads tea leaves and makes somewhat sometime educated guesses
It’s what Zucc is worth. Last year maybe he gets them that grabner type return. This year it is what it is. I’m sure the Hayes trade will be similar.
If they think it makes sense to bring Zucc back I should probably consider rooting for Winnipeg full time.
Pretty good chance Dallas doesn’t even make the playoffs and if that happens no way they resign Zuc. Better conditions than having to win the cup, but not by much. Would have pushed for that third just being a guaranteed 2nd rounder in what’s supposed to be a very deep draft
Zucc is a legitimate 2nd liner, borderline 1st liner. I don’t see why Gorton couldn’t get one 1st liner.
———
Bottom 6 Boyle gets a R2 because he is made for Playoffs; Second Assist Zucc gets conditional R2, R3 because Zucc’s game is not made for POs.
.
Dallas definitely needs 2nd level scoring. The West is wide open, every team has holes.
.
Hayes has similar problems; game is made for November, not May.
Zucc will not be back if DQ has any say in it. They are moving on from East-West AV to North-South DQ.
Nice hot take Travis Jost.
Let me paint you a picture. The stars resign Zuccarello and bottom out next year and the rangers end up with this years Ottawa pick.
I just looked at the news 20 mins ago and I see this stuff. You guys get paid and are that base
Wahhh to everyone. I love this deal. It’s smart and ballsy as F. Our GM is a smart dude
I’m actually frightened to go read the hot takes on HFboards
Hard for Dallas to make more moves since their firsts and seconds are tied up in this trade.
Bad trade. Period. Disappointed. Expected better outcome.
Cant tell if you are being sarcastic or not JPP, but Zuc isn’t a top 15 ranger of all time and not since 90 or even since 2000 (if you go back to 2000 you still had guys like leetch here remember). since 2010 he’d make that list but that speaks more to the quality of players we have had overall rather than Zucs greatness
Letang and Doumilon down tonight …tell Jim Rutherford we have defensemen available
Since 1990 name 15 rangers who gave 5 years of better service. Have fun with it
I’m saying like when you look a players full body of service and what he brought, what the team did, how fans and teammates thought of him. Name 15 guys since 1990 who have had better ranger careers
Unless Shatty has some unspoken injuries, he’ll never get any better, only worse(r). Find a home for him and Staal and find a new D among the twenty young guys we now have there.
Abysmal asset management…..again.
Thanks, Gary Bettman and your hard cap parity.
Didn’t Abysmal coach the Penguins a few seasons back?
NEW POST
Coos….lol
You know what it’s a shrewd move on Nill’s part as well. If the stars make the WCF, zucc like be a big part and they would gladly give up pick #27-28. Likewise if they do go on the run, Nill probably believes in the team’s trajectory and says even if we resign Zucc, we think we’re at least a 2nd round team again and it’s another pick in the late 20s. So if everything works out roses for the stars, then the rangers will get 2 late 1sts. That’s how nill looks at it.
The shrewd part is this. I’ve seen and read Dallas Stars’ fans wanting be stars to be major buyers on multiple players. Tying his 1sts up on conditionals, gives him a built in restraint.
Say he doesn’t want to give up the assets for stone, panarin with the possibility of not making the playoffs or getting knocked out early. But star’s fans did want them to be major buyers. Well now star’s fans are giddy at the surface level price and aren’t gonna roast nill for tying the 1sts up. If they lose, fans will be happy they didn’t pay the price for stone/panarin, and if they win 2 rounds and have that month of playoff hockey energy, fans will be ok with the 1st and will think they will be contenders next year and be ok paying a 1sr for an extended Zucc bc of the kind of factor he will be if they do get on a roll and win 2 rounds
Could this become a win-win for both teams?
Hayes to Nashville?
