Did you guys think we’d be going into the week of Thanksgiving with a better record that the Caps, Pens, Devils and Flyers? I sure as hell didn’t. Enjoy it while we can, right?

heres Carp’s review

Only thing I somewhat disagree on Carp’s writeup is strome. He mentions his subtle defensive and neutral zone play and then says he gave the same that spooner basically does. If the first sentence is true then he’s already giving us an upgrade over spooner.

Plus he won a couple important faceoffs. Looked to skate about as well as spoonman. And can play the PK.

=good trade to get spooner off our books 📚 (minus the retainer salary)

I’m not against trading Kreider, but the Nylander trade Brooks, Carp are mentioning, I would not do. It’s poor asset management. If you trade Kreider, you do it if for a bunch of assets. Similar, if not better, than the McDonagh trade.

Nice snipe by Kreider ….Kreider and Skjej for Nylander would be good trade…Nylander can be dynamic player they need. Thing is if they were planning on trading Kreider they probably would have kep Miller

    BobbyO,
Agree on Nylander. Disagree with the Kreider part of it. I’d rather have Kreider and Nylander, or Kreider and Panarin. Rather than Nylander and Panarin. Team would get very small with the two of them.

Lots of “good looks” for the Panthers last night. AV would have been pleased with their effort. Hank brought his A game and Luongo didn’t. He is on pace to see as many 40 shot games as last year. The odd man rushes were disconcerting and hearkened back to the first few games when they routinely allowed them. Fortunately Florida misfired on most of them. Pionk picks up another PP point and losses a board battle that results in a goal. On the plus side, they let Hank see the shots and went to the net to get a couple of dirty goals. You can also see Chytil get more confidence with every game. They may have something there. 22 points at the quarter pole is not bad. A borderline playoff team which was at the top of our range of expectations before the season. DQ- so far so good.

BDL always easier to get bigger than better…just think Nylander would be great fit and what they need…but if they could get him without moving a Kreider all the better

Did Lettieri get back on ice after that dumb penalty in the first? Guessing he may be on his way to Hartford

BTW we bag on the officials regulatory, but great hustle by the ref to get to the net to make that call on the Names goal. That call would not have been made on the replay.

Kreider currently on pace for 68 points and looks as though he’s finallu in a system and under a coach that will get him to the next level. Playing with fire and showing leadership. Wouldn’t want to see him go right now

  14. Pete Avatar

Don’t think Toronto will want anything to do with Brady given how he is playing now and his contract. Si defenseman would have to be Pionk and if you aren’t willing to give up Kreider it would be Anderson plus likely another prospect or pick. Don’t think it’s the best use of assets at this point unless you are convinced Nylander is a no doubt first line center who is going to be eventually good for 70-80 pts a year or more, i.e. a true first line center. If you see him as more likely to be a60-65 pt guy then it’s not worth it.

With Lettieri sent down, I wonder if the call up somebody after today’s game. Gettinger, and Meskanen each had a goal and an assist yesterday. I guess they could just bring back Lettieri after the game today as well.

  19. cooscoos Avatar

Spooner described as a ‘perimeter player,’ ‘eschews contact,’ ‘skill player,’ etc. I see him a hundred times carrying the puck up the boards, seeing he’s about to be checked, and chuck the puck wherever while turning and avoiding the check. That’s SOFT in my book. He won’t take the hit to make the play and he won’t throw a check to make the play. Guess no one wants to use that very apt word. See ya.

  20. cooscoos Avatar

Looks like THE has completely bought in to the Quinn dictates. Could finally be his year. Same might be said for Hayes. Decisions, decisions.
Chytil so obviously gaining confidence. Written all over his mug.

So we traded a Spoon for a Stromboli… good thing no utensils are required!

The Nylander thing is starting to become a fetish here.. I hope NYR don’t do a trade just for the sake of it. Toronto is the team with the problem, don’t over pay and be prepared to walk away.

would be very hard to replace the size speed and strength of kreidsdale. Guys like him do not grow on trees. We cant just fall in love with all the “skill” guys.

Maybe leafs look to taking SHatty? plus Buch?

Please bring up Belesky – this team needs a 4th line to gain zone entry, forecheck like heck and keep it deep.
There’s room even with Cap implications and playing with Lias and Fast on a 4th line is what this team needs.
That’s right – one goal Fast needs to be moved down to 4th line

  27. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Be fine with that as 4th line SN and agree Fast is a great guy to be on 4th line and pk.

Not at all against keeping Kreider long term but it’s gonna be expensive to do so. He likely will be in the neighborhood of $7m/yr for 6-7years to lock up long term.

How many 7 year deals have been signed for 28 year old wingers in
Last 2 years? Would do $7×5 or $6×6. Guys who skate like him
can play a long time at a high level.
Imagine if he played with a 1C??

  30. DaveB Avatar
    DaveB

My first preference is keeping Kreider. Let’s see if he’ll take a long term deal for $6.5m per.
Second preference is trading him for a haul, rather than being part of a haul.

  31. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Evander kane just signed one at age 27, no? Panarin is on track to do the same this summer at 27 (likely for more money). Lucid signed a 7 year deal at 27/28 and Ladd did the same at 28/29. So I’d be surprised if Kreider signed here or elsewhere for anything less than 7, especially when he could insist on an 8 year deal from us

  32. SN Avatar
    SN

Pete those examples show why you don’t do 7 year deals with 28yo wingers.
Love the Kreidsdale but if he is looking for max term and money; trade him next year at deadline and bring back an absolute haul.

  33. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Not necessarily wrong SN, just saying that is the market, so he likely will expect the same unless you blow him away on a shorter deal. Real shame we have never been able to get him a real number 1 center to play with and more we win this year the less likely that will change.
    —-
Think there would be high demand for him on the trade market, but you need to bring back a no doubt young future 1st liner and then another good prospect (not sure I’d want a late 1st in lieu). Not sure who has that kind of talent to spare

  34. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Absolute haul will be gotten at this year’s deadline in my opinion SN as the trading team gets him for two playoff runs and first chance to resign him

  35. SN Avatar
    SN

Or at draft as they have him for entire season

  36. SN Avatar
    SN

Trade Haze and Kreider as package and bring back a #1 D prospect and a future first line forward.

  37. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Yea maybe a little less but still good haul, especially if it could in effect be a sign and trade. I wonder if Colorado would be open to moving the Ottawa pick at the draft if it doesn’t end up being top 2 or 3?

  38. jpp Avatar
    jpp

Really like the Strome trade. Anders Lee emergence cost him his long term spot in the isles top six and Eberle was too good to turn down. Edmonton was a mess depth wise last year. Knows he’s a candidate to be traded this year and it effects his #. I think it was a really smart target. He’s a show of support to the group, bc in its principle it’s a NOW move, it helps strengthen and solidify the line-up. But he’s also a candidate to ‘step in’ ;), to a role here, and/or increase his trade value. Like the move. Namestnikov should take notice. He played his way out of being spooner. Namestnikov played his way onto the rangers. Think he’s gonna get better and better from here. He could of folded and didn’t. Good sign

  42. jpp Avatar
    jpp

I’d sign Kreider for 6 yrs no problem. He’s gonna hold up.
He gets heat for not being lindros or even Blake wheeler instinctively. But he’s become such a good pro. His best years are coming. He got a late start to the pro grind. His body is fresh. Would I trade Kreider. Depends on the deal, but his value is at an all time high to me. Unless I land a A level player, I’m not moving him. Rangers have a lot of other talented players, I’d prefer maybe bundle two said (unsaid) players along with a high value (unsaid) player for nylander.

  43. cooscoos Avatar

As with Cally No Tax, Kreider’s agent will certainly mention the NYS/NYC taxes, and they’re a ton.

  44. Pete Avatar
    Pete

If I’m Kreider I’d only consider a 6yr deal if it was for $7-8m/yr and likely closer to 8. Otherwise just leaving too much money on the table

    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

I’d have zero problem trading pionk or SkjeL or chytil or hayes or zucc or shattenkirk or any combo of the above for nylander.

No one on this roster is untouchable by Kreider is a little tougher to replace from within than all the other (nylander replaces chytil’s “talent/skill set”).

Pete, 30 other teams could use a guy like Kreider. He just has too much of something the rest of the guys on this roster (and within the organization) do not have. IMHO you can’t let him go for another smaller skilled guy. Especially if he continues to be the best player on this team.

  58. James G Avatar
    James G

And that’s not to say you don’t have a point about giving something to get something. But maybe it’s not a wise deal for the Rangers if what they have to give is something they can’t afford to be without. Panarin will only cost money next summer. Also, I think TO probably wants a RHD or a legit #1 guy in general.

  59. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Oh James I wasn’t suggesting trading Kreider for Nylander, but rather that he is someone toronto would be looking for in return. I honestly don’t know enough about Nylander to say if he is a no doubt future 1st line center or just a slightly better player than stepan when all is said and done. If it’s really the former (in the eyes of Toronto and the team on the other side), the cost will be very high and if it’s more the latter, wouldn’t see the point from our perspective.
    —-
I’d love to keep kreider around, but need to get him a real 1st line center to really bring out the best in him and will have to be prepared to pay him market value in a year and a half. If the rangers aren’t prepared to do both, have to at least explore what the market is for him.

  60. SN Avatar

  61. St Pete Eli Avatar

A lot of good points today on trade rumours, bottom line though is Nylander isn’t coming here. Just too much to give up to get him. Ride the season out trade the UFA’s, & placeholders at the deadline & sign the Breadman in the off season.

Will be intersting to see what kratsov can do but way to premature to peg him as center. If he is a first line talent, we need that at wing. Especially if center isn’t his “natural” position. No need to fit square peg in round hole. We are deep at center. Kreider Chytil Kratsov line could be nasty in a couple years.

  65. James G Avatar
    James G

I gotcha, Pete. Sorry for misreading. Don’t get me wrong, No one is untradable but I don’t think trading our best forward is necessarily going to help them. My hope is that Kreider eventually settles in beside Lias or Howden. Zibanejad benefits him more on the PP than 5 on 5.

I don’t think they will trade them both. I would like to see them move the DJ to wing, but that won’t happen. Trading Mika and keeping Haze means a costly contract, and they will need to sign Kreider who won’t be cheat and is a must through the rebuild. No easy decisions for Gorton. They cannot afford another Yandle mistake with Haze!
