I figured since there is going to be a lot of talk about players performance this year, who stays, who goes, etc that it would be handy to have the stats in the same post, at least for a few days.
Did you pad Meeka’s hit totals!
93,8,16, a combined minus 66. Yikes.
What sticks out for me is the take/give away. Mika at -78 is bad, but at least he is offensive player. Gavrikov -81 is painful and something to work on for sure.
Carey Miller did that -30 in only 68 games 😥
Not that he’s expected to take many but Laf should work with Tro or Mika on faceoffs
Not definite to moving Trocheck
A pick does nothing for the immediate ability to compete in Shesty window
I’m not adverse to moving him. But if the return is meh, I keep him and see if they can win with him
He’s also performs well in playoffs
8 G 20 pts in our conference final year
Did a quick look at Lafrenier game log. My math may be off a little bit, but before Panarin was traded, Lafrenier was a minus 16. After, a plus 9. Meaningful?, debatable. Interesting, absolutely.
CC,
I disagree on Trocheck. He has to go. Team needs him out of the locker room. Plus, I think he is incredibly overrated as a player.
Can we please have a topic image/picture? The empty space makes the front page look uneven [out of whack].
Certainly will be interesting what Drury and sully do for next years roster
Pressure is on to be better. Glad I’m not the one that has to make these decisions
JT Miller was on ice for 64 goals against in 68 games; but was also the defensive center on Team USA so when he cares/tries, the results can be there
Interesting to see the 3 season segments w Fox and Shesty availability
Before injuries
During injuries
After injuries
Cuylle 302 hits….no one else has as many as 200. They better keep him around.
Agree. They will need to keep cap in mind for next year with cuylle contract up
He’s a keeper
Did you notice how few hits Fox and Gavrikov have? I knew it would be low but was really shocked just how low.
JBytes – all fixed!
LaCoast’s game changed dramatically after removal of gluten from his daily diet. Whether it was playing with Bread or just the psychology of removing the road block it was a big move in the right direction.
Derbils news:
Sunny Mehta becomes New Jersey’s sixth General Manager
Is trocheck part of the culture problem? I thought he always got good marks for mentorship, etc etc.
This free agent class sux ..:especially at center
Trocheck will have value ..time to cash in ..root for Wild and canes to exit early and get those prices higher
Rich I can’t see these stats on phone but Kartye
Should be right there with Cullye for hits per game
Thank you, Beezle! All’s right with the world again.
I can’t explain why, but that picture gave me a good laugh.
Thanks Beezle as Chuck Barris would say, “Good Stuff.”
The issue with Vermont is not what he does well it’s that he needs to be moved now. Drury always waits too long. We’ve seen it over and over again.
Their top 8 scorers were a total -104 for the season with only Fox a plus at +5. That’s because they just don’t score enough goals. The 250 allowed is in line with many playoff teams. Only the Kings made the playoffs with less goals than they scored.(224 vs. 238) and they had the lowest playoff point total (90). They need to score about 50 more goals next year and maybe improve a bit on goals allowed. Where will they come from? (They also lose 19 from Panarin.) Miller has to be better. Cuylle and Perrault should chip in more. Maybe they get you 35 more. LAF may get 5 more. A 7 goal scorer can’t be in your top six. They need someone the replace Sheary in the top 6 and score 25. Is that a UFA, a trade or Greentree or Aspinall? If they score <3 goals per game they will struggle again.
They’re going to practice passing the puck into the net
*ducks and the kings. That division is drek.
Flames leading in 3rd
Go Flames go.
😮
Flames win. So, we’re guaranteed a top 5 pick now, or is it top 4? I forget
Top 5. A team can only move up 2 spots – from 3rd to 5th in the Rangers case. Kudos to the Flames for not tanking.
well I’ll be a monkey’s uncle
Good result for NYR! After the Rangers car-crash season, I needed a break from hockey tonight. I opted for an episode of The Capture instead.
ORF
If one uses the post Olympic stretch as a proxy for next season estimated offensive output, they were top 5 in goals scored, but strong agree on needed goal scoring.
March scoring – 16 games
Mika 9 goals
Laffy 9
Gavi 5
Sheary(!) 5
Purro 4
Tro 3
Coolio 3
Kartye 3
Sully asked about needs for next year. Puck moving D, and bottom 6 forwards.
bad news for Schneider
JBytes if you haven’t ever watched “The Fall” its only a 15 hour or so commit. Serial killer drama w/ Gillian Anderson, really a perfect fit for NYR fans used to being abused 🤣
good news for Fortescue
via GGMM:
#NYR captain J.T. Miller: “There’s definitely moments that were challenging for me, like it was hard. I put a lot of weight on my own shoulders, and I think in moments, it might have been a little too taxing for me. But I’ve learned a lot about it so far… I can take a lot away from this. I need to get away from it. It was a lot. It was heavy for me this year. There was moments where it’s overwhelming… I just need to make sure I learn from my mistakes I did make.”
Sully what Fox a puck losing D?
They are loaded with bottom six forwards. That is the organizational strength. Why does he want more of them? To press box them? He needs a top six forward as a replacement for Nepobaby who is at best a bottom six forward. If he doesn’t understand that we should prepare ourselves for Sheary 2.0 next season.
agree ORF but maybe that means he thinks there may be some forwards moving into top 6?
SN- 84 games projections based on March
Mika 47
Laffy 47
Gavi 25
Sheary 26
Purro 21
Tro 16
Coolio 16
Kartye 16
Mike and LAF are not going above 40. 35 is a optimistic, reachable number. Gavi isn’t Makar. If he gets 10 again I’d be thrilled and shocked. Sheary shouldn’t be on the roster next year, but I fear he will be. 21 for Perrault is very doable. He could go higher. 16 for Tro and Cuylle would be disappointments and a step back. I’d be ecstatic with 10-15 from Kartye.
They need more from Miller and they need to add another scorer or two and they need to drive possession more which will help the D which is adequate.
ORF,
They are loaded with AHL bottom 6 forwards. Sullivan is right. They need bottom 6 ( 3,or4 of the) NHL forwards.
Top of post updated with some playoff info. First game is CAR v OTT Saturday 18 April 15:00 EDT. There will be a go-time tomorrow that includes the complete schedule for both conferences.
plenty of Bottom 6 types UFAs available Dickinson, Bunting, Jenner, Duhaime, Scissons, Acciari
NHL News: Congratulations to Nathan MacKinnon on winning the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy!
19-year-old Macklin Celebrini set the #sjsharks franchise record for most points in a single season, passing Joe Thornton with his 115th point. #TheFutureIsTeal
I think at this point NYR fans would be overjoyed if LaCoast ever hit 70 pts
via GGMM:
Mika Zibanejad on his individual #NYR season:
“I mean, obviously, it’s a better feeling, but I think I proved to not myself, but to maybe some other people, like BobbyO, who had a thing or two to say about me last year, to show what I can do and what I’m still capable of doing. I still gotta bring it again next year.”
lol ..whatever works Beezle….he had a good year…perfect time to move on and trade him to get younger down middle…saw something about Mctavish on Ducks getting healthy scratched and pushed down on depth chart.
Need at least 1 top 6 forward maybe 2
Have not replaced bread yet
Maybe cuylle takes the next step into top 6 but that still leaves a hole
I think Chemlar is definitely an NHL bottom 6 player
Garbage time or not, he showed many attributes that he can play
Very strong on the puck and doesn’t make a lot of mistakes
plenty of bottom 6 UFAs available Bunting, Jenner, Duhaime, Scissons, Acciari …top 6 …slim pickings ..thats why they need to go trade and/or RFA route
JTM sounds like a basket case. Best type of leader is a role-model leader: moving your fuggin skates and don’t fire cross ice wish passes on a break out. This guy is not Capt material; he’s going to break next season; already happened in Vancouver. What a mess Dreary made.
Culture Club? More like psycho ward
Laffy was on a 94 pt pace in March. Is that locked in for next year? Heck no, but the potential is there and he, Mika and Purro had some mojo at the dojo working.
Prust saying
JT was almost on Point per game pace since January…just needs to stay healthy and give bland post game responses ….like Meeka
Busto is not skilled or mean enough to reach 94 pts unless McDavid or MacKinnon is his pivot. I would be thrilled with 70 pts. He only needed 13 to get there. If he could work on his shot over the summer anything is possible.
Glass half full
This was millers first time being captain.
Maybe we take him at his word and he learned a lot from the trials of this season and the pressure that comes with rangers captaincy and team struggles.
I predict he comes back rejuvenated and with a much better attitude and body language
I think Quinnie and Sully have the mentorship ability to help him be a better captain
Tough draw the kings got with Colorado
They really needed the better wild card to have a shot at winning a series for our draft pick to improve
Avs are a paper tiger; not sure if Kings have the muscle to slow their bustle, but love to see it
dreaded president’s trophy winner
Busto is perplexing ….more ice time and PP time once Bread left but that still doesn’t explain how he became faster/better skater.
Agree that he does look faster. Maybe confidence allowing him to be lighter on his feet and make quicker decisions.
He has the strength and frame to play a more physical game like a McKinnon or landeskog. Maybe he’s a little nervous to get hurt.
1205 re laffy
Sounds like Trocheck was describing a parapneumonic effusion which may have turned into an empyema which can make you very sick.
Glad he’s better now. Definitely helps explain his slow start and early missed games.
He’s a gamer
Exit quotes via GGMM
#NYR Jaroslav Chmelař: “I mean, I’m as hungry as I’ve ever been. I’m gonna put a lot of things on my vision board in the summer, and hopefully it will come true. I’m gonna work my ass off to get here and get here next year.”
#NYR Adam Fox’s face lit up when I asked how he thought his pairing with Vladislav Gavrikov came along:
“I thought it was really good… I think he’s the perfect complement for me. As you guys know, I played with Lindy my whole career in the NHL, pretty much. Vlad has got a lot of similar tendencies. Obviously, he might jump in the offense a little more, and stuff like that. I think it’s nice for me. I’m happy to see him do that. You score 14 goals, you’re contributing a fair bit offensively. Defensively, he’s just steady. I think that’s the biggest thing. I think I play my best when I could read off someone and know where they’re going to be and they’re predictable. He provided that for me in a lot of ways. I was really happy with how we played and kind of how quickly we formed to get there.”
#NYR Igor Shesterkin on his individual season: “I can play way better for sure.”
#NYR Matt Rempe on where he’s at in rehab process after 2nd thumb surgery:
“It’s coming along a lot better than it was at first. After the second surgery, it’s come along really well. I think that it’s in a good spot now. A lot of work to be done this summer, but now I’m confident I’ll be able to play my game.”
#NYR Braden Schneider on his future with #NYR: “It’s something that is out of my control. I love being a Ranger. I’m very proud to be a Ranger, and it feels like home here. I know I’ll be doing whatever I can to be the best player I can be, and I hope it’s here. Whatever happens is going to happen. I’m proud to be a Ranger, so that’s where I’ll leave that. We’ll see what happens.“
Schneider knows
Thought Tro had a UBI?!?
lungs are upper body 😉
#NYR GM Chris Drury praised Dylan Garand for what he’s shown so far, but in regards to the No. 2 role:
“We’re certainly looking at him, among other options, as to see who could be backup.”
Translation: Drury doesn’t want him
via GGMM:
How close does GM Chris Drury think the #NYR are to a playoff roster now?
“As I said before, I’m not going to get into timelines. I know I said it before and feel the same way now, I think we have a lot of good players. We have a lot of talented players. As we said in the letter, certainly wasn’t good enough to that point and we’re trying to retool and find some different ways to have success. I do like a lot of our pieces. I’m excited to begin the offseason and take a deeper look at it and try and figure out how to be better.”
Presented with the fact that Jaroslav Chmelař and Adam Sýkora emerged for bottom-six roles, #NYR GM Chris Drury was asked about how he sizes up his top six and if there’s enough there:
“Those are certainly going to be great candidates and options, the kids you mentioned, moving forward as bottom-six options…As far scoring and looking at the top six, I do think we have a lot of really good players in the top six. Some got a little more opportunity down the stretch and produced at a good rate, but it’s always something we’re looking at, exploring as to what we can do to be better.”
#NYR Adam Edström said he had a fracture in his ankle that he played through for almost six weeks.
“Eventually, me and the doctors made a decision together that was best for me and the longevity of my career. So I ended up having surgery on that in December.”
Sully’s boy Matt Murray is a Free agent
Is Murray a relative too? 7 games in the past two seasons.
“I’m excited to begin the offseason and take a deeper look at it and try and figure out how to be better.”
Like wtf have you been doing since “the letter” ??? Making pizza?
I laughed the other night flipping channels and saw an old b&w movie on called…. The Letter. Bette Davis
Think Garand gets job..but Murray may be at camp
Murray the Cop?
Matt Murray and Conor Sheary next year’s dynamic dup!
Chris Drury auditioning for Idiocracy 2.
Speaking of relatives …what about Mcevoy for Foxy?
Ross Perot
All is not well in the Peg:
Quick summary: Connor Hellebuyck fired all kinds of shots at the state of the #NHLJets and how it’s difficult for him to see an easy way out of this mess. When I asked if this would cause him to re-consider his future, there was an extremely long pause.
@Beezle
I did see the first two season of The Fall and enjoyed it quite a bit. I don’t remember why I never went back to finish the series.
Hope Drury comments about Garand were just to keep him hungry with his training over summer
I don’t think Drury can come out and say he won the job this early after 3 games.
But I believe he’s the front runner for sure
ORF, your 10:03: I’m hopeful that Laba will chip in 15-20 goals next season.
I know some of you will disagree with me but Drury is a terrible GM. I have zero faith he will do the right thing come the draft and another summer of misery. He will resign the nephew because we need more aging vets.
Perreault Mika Lafreniere
Cuylle Laba Kartye
Are 2 decent lines going forward.
Lines 2 and 4 should should have Miller 2 and Chmelar 4. That leaves 4 open spots do we really trust Drury to get them right? I don’t.
If I were GM I want to see what some these OHL forwards the Rangers have bring to to the table at training camp.
However, since Drury is GM he’ll trade them and then some for Austin Matthews who could not elevate Toronto past the first round. I really hope Drury does nothing….that way he can’t anything stupid.
We are stuck with the double D’s and there isn’t anything we can do about.
The cap space will be burning a hole in Drury’s pocket. My hope is that is where he concentrates his attention. Overpaying vets is less destructive than trading away the few assets he has for underwhelming returns. Hopefully he keeps the terms short and doesn’t give out NMCs like lollipops. After next season only Mika, I got and Gavy have full NMCs.
Get the 1/2 pick move Trocheck and Schneider for a young center/D and picks and sign Raddysh, Marchand and a depth center and this is a playoff team next season
JBytes I encourage you to watch the 3rd season! Really thought they did a great job with the soundtrack as well.
Is it too early to extend Drury again?
No to Marchand. Old and now breakable. A waste of money. Getting Raddysh means we will have 2 Raddysh’s. I don’t like Raddysh’s.
