The Rangers hosted the playoff pretender Washington Capitals at the Garden last night and put on an offensive show on home ice that was missing for the prior 39 home games, winning 8-1.
Washington goal tender Lindgren was not up to the task – not that he got much help – and the Ranger defense and Shesterkin proved no match for a very frustrated WAS. The first period even looked like this might be a competitve game, a goal for each team – Sheary (7) by Kartye (13) and Fox (41), McMichael (12) for WAS – and seven shots on goal each. And then the second period of Hell rained down upon Terrible Tom and his legion of choke.
Miller (17) started the onslaught with a PPG off his skate at 03:07 of the second, assisted by Zibanejdad (40) and Fox (42). This was followed less than three minutes later when at 05:53 Cuylle (18) and his skate would tip a booming shot by Schneider (16), Brodzinski (10) with the secondary. Proving there is no rest for the wicked, Cuylle (19) would score again, not quite a jack-in-the-box, at 08:33, Trocheck (36) and Gavrikov (20) credited with the assists. But wait, there’s more!
After a brief five minute pause in the Ranger scoring, Sykora (3) would score on a highlight reel play from Chmelar (2) in the corner to Laba (14) in front with the backhand pass to Sykora at the doorstep. The enthusiasm runs deep in those three! But once again, the Rangers slacked off a bit and it wasn’t until another five minutes had run off the clock before Fox (8) would get a shot through traffic on the PP at 18:27; Zibanejad (41) and Miller (33) with the assists. The refs showed mercy and ended the period at the 20:00 minute mark, NYR 6 WAS 1 after two.
Just in case the Caps envisioned some type of Mikachu five goal comeback, Trocheck (16) would open the third period scoring at just 02:27 in, unassisted to put the Rangers up 7-1. At this point, the main focus at MSG was on Cuylle – would he get his first NHL hatty today? Answer: yes, at 19:28, Cuylle (20) by Zibanejad (42) and Lafreniere (31). Final score: NYR 8 WAS 1.
Though he only faced 21 shots, Shesterkin managed to stay awake and shut down any attemp by the Caps to get back in the game. The Ranger defense also played well. While this was certainly a feel good game and showed the potential of some of the youngsters, one has to remember all the pressure was on Washington and none on New York. Even so, it was still an impressive performance!
Game summary below:

The final Ranger home game of the season is Wednesday 8 April at 19:00 against the Buffalo Sabres. Telecast brought to you by TNT, truTV, HBO MAX and MSG (so claims the NHL)

These are the times that try men’s souls!
I think these guys may be earning a special commission on each 26-27 season ticket sale before the playoffs begin
Hope Quickie gets the last home game!
Would surprised if Igor not between the pipes esp with Baby Buffaloes coming to town.
Such a fan of Lava’s game. He got some nasty in him, does not take any short cuts out there, always playing inside out.
Schneider +4, curious when that last happened for a NYR Dman
Hilarious JT could not manage a + game in a 8-1 shellacking
Bueller?
Winning is boring; no pain, no complain
There is always Sheary
Looking at FA class …which is extremely thin. Tuck is gonna be asking for north of 10M …was thinking they would be more interested in Marchment or Mantha for top 6 slot ?
Or middle six; Tuch would have been great 4 years ago
Bobbyo
Sheary is better than both Marchment & Mantha. And much cheaper. Although after this late surge he may cost more than both combined.
Someone is going to pay Tuck, I hope it’s not the Rangers. No thank you on Mantha. The move is to offer sheet Dorofeyev. Vegas is in a bad spot cap wise.
No luck with Tuch.
Marchment always on the move…yellow flag?
Broadcast had some stat the Cuylle was fist Ranger since like 1985 with a Hat trick and a Fight in same game.
I can’t belive chicrun is listed at close to his size. Cuylle made him look small and landed an early one that stopped him in his tracks
Think Marchment is type they are looking for..some size and nasty with some offense
Just want the right mix in the room with Capt Smikey face and his bro Tro
Rant Alert!
Speaking of broadcast, why are broadcasters trying to make our viewing experience feel like a video game console? The name tag above the puck carrier and circle around skates are more distracting than helpful. And the puck trail is giving me severe FoxTrax flashback.
Liam Greentree, F
2025-26 team: Windsor Spitfires (OHL)
Greentree solves problems with the puck on his stick. At 6-foot-3, 215 pounds, he has an NHL-ready frame and uses it to power through checks, protect possession and navigate traffic. He manipulates space off the rush with look-offs and give-and-goes, while forcing defenders and goalies to respect a high-end shot.
Greentree has been on a 14-goal, 25-point tear for the OHL’s Windsor Spitfires since being acquired by the Rangers as the centerpiece of the Artemi Panarin trade. He’s a crafty, powerful forward who racks up points through playmaking and finishing in equal measure.
**His skating is the legitimate concern; his first step and acceleration need meaningful improvement to project as more than a middle-six contributor at the NHL level.** The offensive intelligence, size and production profile suggest a player who will find ways to score even if the footspeed never becomes a strength. New York got a prospect with middle-six tools and a frame built for playoff hockey.
I’m loving the Chmelar/Laba/Sykora line. These guys are having fun.
Sykora sure knows how to celebrate his goals.
Breaking News: NJ Devils have “parted ways with” Tom Fitzgerald.
Other under-performing franchises make changes; NY Rangers write “Dear Fans” love letters. Ugh…
When is it drurys time to go
JBytes seeing trails….
Whose review of Greentree is that? Some of these guys think everyone except McDavid are below average skaters.
How many 6’3” 215 lb wingers are above average skaters? I’m sure he started as a center and moved to wing; speed is also about spatial awareness; understanding coverage zones and spacing.
Of course seed is somewhat important. However it is not as important as quickness relating to Hockey IQ.
They have the same number of points as the Kraken right now. The have one more win and the Kraken has 2 games in hand. Bad teams don’t win the games in hand. They are 1-7-2 in their last 10 games.
The Canucks and Hawks will finish with the worst two records. 3 through 9 are TBD.
If the Ranger lose out they will be 3rd from the bottom. Beating the Hawks, Leafs and Panthers in 4 point games didn’t help their draft situation. If they win out it is still mathematically possible to catch the Devils in the east and the Kings in the West. The Devils would still own the tie breaker so the Leafs and Panthers are the only teams in the East they can catch. One win (or a Ranger loss) by the Kings, Preds and Sharks puts them out of reach. Calgary has been playing well and could catch them if the Rangers lose out. That won’t happen if the Rangers win a game or two. They are likely to finish between 4th and 8th from the bottom and have to hope for the ping pong balls to fall their way again.
The Rangers are playing no pressure hockey right now. They just might win out. Honestly it doesn’t mean anything concerning who they will be next year.
They also won’t be that much better next year either, but they need to hit on some picks this year to be better going forward. Third in the Metro or a WC is their ceiling next year.
I was hoping Penn State would make it to the Frozen Four so I could see McKenna live, but they didn’t make it. We will just get a look at Spence and Emery. Also playing will be TJ Hughes as a top college UFA and Keaton Verhoef who will likely be a top 5 pick.
Kreider

Skating was never in question with him. But he’s a bit of a unicorn in that realm with his size
“In a workplace discrimination lawsuit filed Monday and obtained by The Independent, Miranda Tyson, a member of the team’s “Blue Crew” – a squad of entertainers who hype up the crowd during commercial breaks – claims Dancing Larry’s “insistence on touching us” has gone too far.”
Good- fuk that guy… can’t stand him. Doosh 100% lives in his elderly parents basement.
Handsy Larry. Who’s have thought?
The Chief wouldn’t stand for this kind of nonsense
ugh the Florida Tankers blew three perfectly good leads to lose in OT
Entertaining redwings game
Will say. Chariot may have worse body language than our foxy. Guy looked like dogs breakfast with zero effort in anything he was doing.
Kane still looks like a good player !
Panthers are doing what they must; Rangers are doing what feels good and makes them smile.
I still dislike Kane.
Dancing Larry is a no talent hack; fugg that guy
Filth given 60% chance of playoffs. Icelanders, Redwings and Craps near 0%.
Three way tie in Atlantic and all have 4 games left!
Ducks lost again… If Vegas holds on they’ll be tied with Edmonton (OT/L) for first out there. LAK now outside looking in after Preds win
And Sheary keeps on rolling alone

What could possibly go wrong
Ding dong ding dong ding dong
Let’s enjoy watching the youngsters play out the season. Why you ask? Because next season Drury will be starting the big time retool, trading picks and yoots for vets like Jason Robertson, not that it will be him, but you get the picture. The organization can’t help itself. Y’all know I’m right!
Would love Robertson…consistent 40 goal scorer that is only 26
Bobbyo
Me too. What’s the cost? The pieces given up need to be replaced. How arre they replaced and how many more assets?
oh, it sounded like you thought it was a bad idea. Not sure of costs but some of their draft picks would be in play in addition to Schneider and Trocheck. Drury will be inquring on Robertson and Tkatchuk …and he should
I’m not sure it comes close to getting done unless Perreault is the #1 piece.
I would ask for Perreault/Fortescue and a couple of 1st’s. Maybe Perreault/ Schneider, maybe. He’s not getting JR without Perreault in the mix.
then you include Perrault
They don’t have the assets to make a trade like that. They will plug one hole by creating another and Drury will be continually playing whack-o-mole and losing at it. He has cap space and draft picks. He needs to turn those into assets before considering a trade for a big fish. The question is do he and Dolan have the patience to do that. Recall that the perception by Dolan that they weren’t moving fast enough ultimately cost Gorton and Davidson their jobs. The same thing that got him the job could be his undoing.
ORF
I agree exactly what I said. I would love to have JR, but it would set us back for sure. Perreault may be their best draft pick since Kreider.
Robertson would be their best forward …by far…not sure how that sets you back. Honestly I think Tkatcuk is his primary target anyway. Hopefully Canada chases him out of Ottawa and the price is more reasonable
The team is not ready to add a Tkachuk, or Robertson. Like ORF said, dont have the assets. What they should go is use their financial resources to their advantage. Attack the RFA market. The Rangers are already considered the boogeyman, may as well act like it. They have quite a few premium picks in this draft, and this draft would not be affected by going RFA. There are quite a few guys out there, including Robertson.
Robertson would cost 4 number ones based on his signing price.
What do you suppose it would cost to trade for him? I’d much rather give up draft picks that are currently, 14, 15,16, and 17 years old.
Perrault/Schneider and a first? Think Dallas signs Robertson and moves Seguin to free up space. Drury should check in on Seguin —could be top 6 fit at a reasonable cost –they can take on his cap hit
Would you give up Kakko, Flip-flop, Krapsoft and Lisa A for JR?
MSG Season tix email landed this am; Sec 118-2 seats; $12,804 per. Bargain! An absolute bargain!!
Perreault Mika Lafreniere
? Miller ?
Cuylle Trocheck Cartye
Sykora Laba Chmelar
Fill the question marks without erasing anyone that is, I hope the plan.
If Trocheck is moved it must be for a younger center version of himself.
Greentree-Tro-Miller
Collio-Lava-Charzar
Sykora-Roobreck-Kartye
Doomed!
GGMM: Kevin Maxwell will rejoin the organization as Director of Player Personnel & Director of Pro Scouting.
Maxwell will work alongside John Lilley on all things related to player personnel, with Maxwell overseeing the pro side and Lilley overseeing the amateur side.
New York Rangers continue to hit the self-destruct button.
Why doomed or self destructing?
A blast from the Sather past. Olga will not approve.
