It did not look good for the Rangers last night, trailing 3-1 until midway throught the third period. Then something magical happened, I suspect some Glen Sather pixie dust, and the Rangers scored two goals in quick succession to tie the game.
It all began on a high note. Brodzinski (1), recently returned to the line up on the fourth line, picked up an errant Bouchard pass on the other side of the NYR blue line, turned on the jets, deeked and scored on Skinner at 05:44 of the first period. 1-0 NYR for a little over sixty seconds. And how often have we seen this? Rangers score, immediately give up a goal? Nurse (2), left all alone at the right dot put a snap shot past the shocked Shesterkin. As the BlogFather noted on twitter, someone seemed to think it was appropriate for Zibanejad, Lafreniere and Sheary to all be on the same side of the ice down low 🤦♂️ 1-1 after one period.
The second was the Oiler’s period. At 08:48, Savoie (1) would knock in a lose puck for the PPG score (his career first), Soucy and Borgen on top of him yet unable to prevent the “shot”. 2-1 EDM. And only moments later at 10:24, Nurse (3) would get another goal, a shot from the goal line that nobody was quite sure was good until review showed Shesterkin carried the puck in on one of his pads. Whoops. 3-1 EDM after two.
To this point, the Rangers looked like they were just holding on and hoping it did not get any worse. The top six were looking deep sixed offensively and the power play (PP1) was not effective either. Until 08:18 when Cuylle picked up a lose puck on the boards, skated it into the offensive zone and resisted the urge to pass the puck and instead shot the puck. Skinner was only able to deflect it, the rebound coming out to Schneider (1) who rifled a wrist shot into the back of the net. Cuylle (3) and Vaakanainen (1) with the assists. 3-2 NYR and …
Mr. Hat Trick, aka Raddysh (5) would retake the team goal scoring lead at 12:04 putting a wrist shot from the slot past Skinner. Sheary (4) would get the assist after gathering the puck on the blue line and pushing it over to the driving Raddysh. 3-3 NYR but still a lot of time left….for someone to screw up. Tonight that would be Zibanejad who took a high sticking call in the defensive zone with just 41 seconds left, the NYR being lucky it was only called a two minute penalty.
Somehow the Rangers would manage to kill both the regulation and the 4-3 OT portion of the penalty. After a stoppage as the penalty expired, 3-3 play resumed and captain JT Miller (3) would take the ice and skate from his own end to Skinner’s net front before putting the puck home for the winning score. Schneider (3) and Lafreniere (4) credited with assists and the NYR would leave town the 4-3 OT winners.
Scoring details below:

Solid win. Something is missing on the PP. Not sure what is, but I’m going to take 20 guesses.
Could very well be our turning point in the season. They looked great late 3rd period like the Rangers of 2 years ago. They got their mojo back I hope.
Sully doing the same as Lavi – leaving PP1 out the whole two minutes while doing zilch. At the least give PP2 a full minute until the other one figures things out.
PP needs someone planted in front of net and Meeka back out on top. Shots are not getting through
Sully has them playing harder and playing defense though .
I agree Beezle, there is a second PP unit for a reason. It’s frustrating to watch PP 1 fail and never come off the ice.
I also don’t think its just missing Kreider. The PP wasn’t particularly good last year either, if I am remembering correctly. ( I may not be)
I never liked Brodude, but he always seem to score when they need it.
They definitely miss CK20 on PP… or in general.
The answer to the PP woes are blatantly obvious; Taylor Raddysh! You can’t stop him, you can only try to slow him down.
Ranger social media wanted Raddysh banished first week of the season
Da Boyz R back? Mebbe. We certainly miss THE, no question. LGR!
The whole PP1 plays like it had hoof and mouth disease. They need to change it up.
The Raddish scored 7 goals in 80 last year and 5 in 73 the season before so understandable that nobody was that excited about his potential offense. Looking at his entire career, the 20 in 22/23 looks very much the abberation.
GGMM: Sounds like Ryan Lindgren is having some of his former #NYR teammates over for dinner tonight.
Fattening them up so they are slow tomorrow
Praccy lines
Me likey – 2C Lava
Should swap LaCoast and Raddish
Lies, damned lies, and statistics! Everybody knows Foxyclean is the second worst dman in the NHL right ahead of kandre
wait why isn’t Kandre on this list
The “model” leaves out offensive opportunites created for the other team
MSG 150 is just reading off the out of town scoreboard
Is Audi gonna get some sort of refund for that garbage?
“Fastest 150 seconds” my ar se
Besides the one defensive lapse on the nurse goal. Laffy looked way more enhances this past game. He’s working his way out of this rut
Could tell JT was trying extra hard to feed him the puck.
Laffy had skill to get some quick snaps off that most would whiff on
Engaged not enhances iPhone
Laf needs to play to see if he can figure it out. Twelve years of dead cap if they were buy him out after this year. Laf actually fed JTM at least three tap in goals on the PP this season that he’s missed.
Gavrikov is quietly really good and helping Fox do his thing more.
Perrault scores again for the Pack who lose 4-3 in OT after leading most of the game.
Deny all you want but Drury/Sully have done a good job with D
Sam’s prophecy will remain’ until Drury is gone
I think I like the Cuylle Laba Lafreniere line. I hope Sullivan keeps it together when Vermont returns.
Parssinen Vermont Raddysh.
Shots from the point are largely ineffectual, indeed counter-productive without Kreider in front.
shots aren’t getting to the net and not sure if it makes sense to put one of your better passers (Miller) in front on powerplay. Maybe Cullye
Kreider is the one of the best net front players in the game. You just throw someone there to replace him. With the personal they have, they should probably change their approach on the PP.
Someone to at least screen if not tip.
Lafreniere has finally been rewarded with PP time and has been a huge disappointment. No different than his 5×5 play. He should be sitting out a few games until he decides to commit to playing the right way. No accountability.
To fix the PP they need 1-2 players who are willing to take the puck to the net, screen the goalie, cause chaos and get the dirty goals. I thought Cuylle might be that guy, but it appears I was mistaken. Can’t hurt to give Raddysh a try, it can’t be much worse.
Big dollars available for a large, agile, aggressive man willing and able to consistently crash, screen, and score. Also big $ these days for shirkers who wander the perimeters and fancy-dan. Mucho easier and healthier to fancy-dan, so it is what it is.
Give Laffy a longer leash
…alliteration AND assonance all at once!
Tell Busto if he doesn’t start taking the puck to the net we’ll take your stick away.
We could get a lot in trading Lafreniere. I can no longer stomach his total inability.
I think Laffy has the size and coordination to stand in kreiders office on the PP
He needs to go there instead of being the guy in the circle
He should have a few more PP assists ..he gave miller a few open nets that were missed
Pp playmaker isn’t Lafren big issue is it
Win the f-king game tonight and make me believe! I want to believe!
Carey – just got in. No idea why your comment went to moderation. Sorry!
Drury threw out the franchise’s most prolific goal scorer since Jean ratelle with the bathwater. I’m sure they’ll figure out the power play again some day.
Ever wonder why only one ranger has hit >400 goals in 100 year franchise history
CraigWeather now known as Fox Mulder 🤣
NEW POST
Perrault with a goal and assist in another 4-3 OT loss today. I had to check to make sure they didn’t repeat last night’s boxscore. Morrow had 7 shots but didn’t get on the score sheet. 5 G 5 A for him in 9 games.
