Rangers DNP, Devils 4

Published by

Can’t win if you don’t score. Can’t win three in a row if you don’t score. Can’t make the playoffs if you don’t try. Not sure what more can be said for this disaster. The usual slow start (4 SOG in 1st period). The usual defensive breakdown (PPG to Meier at 10:56 and SHG to Bratt at 12:23 in the 2nd period). The usual lack of urgency down two goals in the third with the resulting next goal scored by the Devils at 14:59.

For a team that was two points out of a playoff spot they sure did look checked out. What is worse for fans is, the Filth have been on a roll since canning Torts so it could be you wake up tomorrow to Ground Hog day of NYR two points back of Montreal, again.

The official scoring summary is below:

The Rangers host a tilt against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday evening, 19:00 EDT. Telecast by MSG and FDSNSUN.

Both locations are blacked out home and away, with the espn+ contract.

Only 2 players on this clown show worth keeping. Cuylle and Schneider. The jury is out on Mothman and Perreault.

I’d keep Cuylle, Schneider, Mothman, Perreault, Berard, Carrick, Rempe, Borg and maybe Brodude (until better comes along). Borg really is a second/third pair guy. Give the kids a chance with 15+ a night. Edstrom will hopefully be back as well.

One of the few players who shoots the puck on PP is Johnny B. I think he is a keeper. Always works hard and seems to care, Agree with Cuylle and Schneider.
This is now a total tear down. If you could possibly trade the goalie, I would. He will be a waste at his salary, even if he sometimes plays lights out.
There are way too many players who have all had terrible seasons this year.
Hopefully,a new younger coaching staff. What we have now is not working.
Only game I care to watch will be against Flyers, with JD and Sam calling the game;which I am sure they will play like crap.

I believe our team would be better with no Drury and no Lavy/housley

Last year was vets owning the room

This year doomed from the get go with Trouba Goodrow and Kreider getting shafted by Drury with trade and early public for sale signs

Lavys system doesn’t fit this team
Housley is not a good coach. Many great players stink as coaches.

If this team had Craig Berube or even Sheldon Keefe we would be a lot better. Gotta find someone like them.

Best thing that could happen is this drop in performance. Game was reminiscent of the no show vs Derbils in POs couple of seasons back.

Obv the players are first and foremost to blame but Dreary is the one who put this team together and continued to steal from the future in the hopes this squad could win the present and is now stuck in the past.

The strangest part of the season was the complete breakdown of pp which would have had them in the playoffs if they were at top 15 level.
With this much talent, it’s a conundrum. Keep rolling out DJ Meeka Mouse and putting Kam the Sham on PP2 point are the obvious one.

And Tro is brain damaged, has no ability to think out on the ice. His clean loss on PP for the Derbils PP goal was emblematic of this season. Not clutch when needed. We get to watch him run around out of position for the next 5 seasons…

    Beezle,
The Kracken coaching staff is already losing patience with Kakko. His minutes have been in a steady decline. 13 minutes last night. This is on a bad team, where minutes should be there for him.

  52. Carey Wilson Avatar

It’s good to see that people are finally including Trocheck in the blame category. He’s been awful all season, and his PK work has been flat out bad. The two best PK guys are still the same two guys who have been their best the previous 3 seasons, Kreider, and Zibanejad.

The PP is now minus for the last 6 weeks. They have given up more shorties than they scored goals. That is reason enough that the entire coaching staff gets canned on 1-18.

If Lavy isn’t canned they should give the Pens their pick for this year unless they move up in the lottery. They will be worse next year.

If they can Lavy it’s a tougher choice. A competent coach could get this roster into the playoffs(barely) next year and the pick would be worse. OTOH, If Drury is going to do a full rebuild keep next years pick and let the Pens have this year’s. Next year’s pick could be in the top 5.

    1
  55. Carey Wilson Avatar
    Carey Wilson

I think the plan is to be good again next year. The only reason, to me, to not keep this years pick, is if you plan on trading next years one at the deadline. Otherwise, you really don’t t know when you will be picking this high in the draft again.

    1
  56. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

Drury gets the blame. He put the team together. This is not a single player failure, it is the group. He picked the players, by draft/trade/signing and gave them their contracts.

Always a chuckle the fans complaining about Mika. Was Mika ever a ‘physical’ player? No. Did Mika ever get in fights? There is no record of any. And yet fans are saying “look at that p*ssy”. Wasn’t it Drury’s job to know this? And how it would or would not fit into a playoff caliber team?

How about Fox? Fights? Zilch. KAM? 1. LaCoast? 1 each in 23/22/21. Othmann has as many hits in 18 games as Fox does in 68.

There is no synergy on this team. Too many of the same type/style of player and they didn’t get that way just overnight.

    3
  57. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

Carey I more or less said the same last week. Nobody knows what this team will look like next year. It could be drafting 8th or 20th. You can have a good idea of the player you will get in this draft. If you think someone in 15-20 next season will be better, than hold on to the pick.

    1
  58. Mkh Avatar
    Mkh

In my opinion, Drury deserves 99% of the blame because he put this group of complete quitters together. Keep in mind that he was the assistant GM during the “rebuild” and had a lot of input on those terrible draft picks, that essentially destroyed the “rebuild”. He also had some or all the say on the awful contracts handed out with NMC. As long as he is here, they will suck like they did under Sather. Unfortunately, my worst fear is that he is the GM for life, just like Sather and I will never see another Rangers Stanley Cup in my lifetime. At this point, I doubt my kids will ever see a Rangers Stanley Cup.

Carey on Kakko, he had a brief stretch of four games where he got over 20 shifts, otherwise seems pretty consistent at ~18. Of the SEA fowards, he’s third in pts/game. That said, SEA games are too late for me to watch more than highlights and look at box scores to see what they are doing or not doing with him. Think next season will be make/break on which six he ends up fitting in longer term.

  63. Carey Wilson Avatar
    Carey Wilson

Does anyone think Drury did what he did without the blessing of Dolan? I don’t. There is a plan, and Drury has explained it to Dolan, and he’s on board. Short term pain, for long term gain. Goodrow and Trouba were always going to have to be gone this summer. Drury did it early. You can very easily argue that if he’d kept them, and Kakko/Chytil, they would probably be comfortably in a playoff spot. In that same argument though, you could argue that we have already seen the peak of what this group can do. That’s what Drury’s moves tell you, he believes we had seen the best of that group, and it was time to retool/reshape the team. There is at least one more move coming. Kreider is most likely gone. I’m not convinced Zibanejad is leaving just yet. Let’s see what Drury has in mind for this summer before we right them off for next year.

The way this team is playing the whole team might not get a PP goal this year. For Kreider if he gets moved he will be tied with Camile Henry. That would really stink.
If Ovi score today then Islanders will be last team Gretz scored against and the team No. 8 breaks the record.

The bad – Dreary had to have noticed the team was overly reliant upon PP and then watched them get smacked around n POs. So if the PO did not perform at a top 5 level, then this team was a bubble team. Guess what happened…

The good – Dreary traded for the best player available and only gave up a R1 and a player one hit away from ending his career. Dreary traded for Dmen who can play defense; almost all of whom had a positive +/- prior to this week. Will
Fuggin Coolio with a special shout out and Bread rising above the crud around him.

The ugly – Meeka Mouse, Lazy Laffy, Listless Kreider as the invisible Men, Trochet reverts to
Form, Lame Fox, and worse of all; KAM the Sham. The Igor contract is the cherry on the pile of dog doodoo.

The draft pick should be kept this season so he can’t trade it next season. Trades this summer can bring in more draft capital. The Cap space increasing but still somewhat constrained by overly generous contracts complicates issues.

Beezle the point is that Florida was only 2 points behind Tampa before this game and 4 points up on Ottawa.
After today’s games, they’re still 2 points from Tampa, with Tampa having a game in hand (against us, so that’s a guaranteed W), and now only 2 points up on Ottawa.
If Florida loses out and Montreal wins out, they would fall to the second wildcard. Just the fact that that’s even somewhat plausible right now is ridiculous.
Florida only has one guaranteed win left this season and it’s against the same team that Tampa is going to get two wins from.

Q4 Revenue: MSGS made $175 million in revenue during the fourth quarter of 2022.
Profit: The Rangers playoff run helped MSGS turn in a $25 million profit during a fourth quarter that ended on June 30, compared to a net loss of $9.3 million during the same period last year.

Not sure what accounting tricks are/are not being used but playoffs contribute a significantt amount to the bottom line. The long game of franchise value is where the bread is buttered however.

Please extend Brodude … as the next coach

“When power-play two gets out there, we’re just trying to focus on just getting shots toward the net, recovering pucks and just keep on firing right back at the net,” Brodzinski said. “It’s the only way that we’re really gonna get out of this slump, is stop getting east-west with it and just start putting a lot more pucks at the net.

    Good news everyone!

Mollie: K’Andre Miller is a game-time decision and Igor Shesterkin is in goal.

Sad to say it, but imo, KAR knows he sucks and is depressed about it.

If my maths works out Schneids has only been on for 7 goals against at even strength all season.
KAM has been on for 27 and as QB of PP2 has 2 assists on PP on season; that’s it…

After tonight, we should be that much closer to putting an end to this garbage season. The problem is, JD and the Nutshots will give little league pizza champ a pass bc he was handcuffed with Trouba’s contract and Mika’s (you know, the “backup-plan contract” Drury gave him bc we missed out on securing Eichel). I would honestly try and move Trocheck as well before he loses value. This cannot be a retool- that time has passed. It needs to be a tear down.

Think the problem with Trocheck is they are using him more or less as a 1C when he was meant to be a 3C.

Agree with Beezle.. just like how they messed up Bobby Holik. Forcing a round peg into a square whole. What could go wrong? Typical for the NY Rangers.
The betting app should have a new prop bet for our boys in blue. Will they get 20 shots on net?
