On a hockey note, I just saw The Athletic trade board. I believe a trade for JT Miller would be a big mistake. I think I would rather see them trade for Frederic from Boston or Olivier from Columbus, if they want to be tougher for the playoffs, but that all depends on what they would have to give up. I just hope Drury doesn’t sacrifice the future for what will most likely be a short playoff run.

Drury should be finding out what it would take to sign Borgen. Trade board says $2.7. If that is accurate, I would sign him in a heartbeat. I think anything under $3.75 would be a good deal. So far it seems like he is a solid defenseman who actually knows how to play defense and use his body to win board battles and clear the crease.

I get that some guys that are centers can and sometimes do play wing (and viceversa) but geez get the primary role correct? Half the players listed as centers really play wing most of the time.

Mika has 14 goals and 44 points in 43 playoff games the last 3 years. He’s been a bum this year, but hardly a playoff bust.
Chytil 8 goals and 13 points in 33 playoff games during the last three years.
JTM 3 goals and 12 points in 13 playoff games last year. Vancouver missed the previous two years. He had 6 goals and 18 points in 17 games in 2019-20.

Chytil amazingly still is not well aware of his surroundings. And Corporal you are right, he’s not been the biggest issue on the team this season, even with his less than stellar defensive play. Even so, he probably should not be part of the equation in future seasons but up to Drury to figure out how to make that happen.

But anyone remotely concerned with a fair assessment throws out the 6 playoff games from last year.
After playing only 10 regular season games, with the last being in November of 2023, he played one playoff game against Carolina in May 2024.
Then he was thrown the Conference Finals against Florida for 5 games. It probably should never have happened.
Toss those games and he’s got 8G 5A in 30 games.
That’s .433 pts/ game, at age 23, while playing 13:58 per game.
At age 25, Kreider had played 77 playoff games averaging .48 pts/ game while playing 15:17 per game.
That’s a difference of less than 5/100 of a point with more ice time and substantially more PP time. And were talking about “Mr Playoffs” here.
At age 23 Jonathan Marchessault had played 2 NHL games. By age 25, he had 1 point in 7 playoff games played over two years.
He’s gone to average about 3/4 of a point over 102 playoff games.

Small sample of games playing a bit more like a real defenseman; I’d still listen to any and all offers for him. I’ve never been a big fan of offensive defenders so I’m ok replacing him with a stay at home. We have forwards to score points.
