Yes kids, the Filth are in town tonight and it is up to the Rangers to pick up the trash, bag it and put it in the dumpster behind Penn Station. Anything less is an afront on the paying customers at the Garden.
The Flyers enter the game on a three game win streak and five of their last six. The Rangers have won six of their last ten while getting points in nine straight. So both clubs appear to be on a bit of a roll.
Line-up wise: Flyers are without forward Laughton and are starting Richard, an AHL callup, on the 4th line LW. Ersson (2.70 GAA, 0.892 SV%) is expected in goal. The Rangers will have the same line-up again, including Shesterkin in goal. The NHL would like to make sure the Flyers get at least one goal by noting in the pregame that Shesterkin has a 164:03 shutout streak going.
The fine NHL officials for the game tonight are Mitch Dunning (274 GP) and Francis Charron (776 GP). Dunning calls it a bit more even than Charron. Both tend to get less involved than the average zebra. The linesmen are Ryan Daisy (532 GP) and CJ Murray (242 GP). The refs are both Canadians and the linesmen are Americans. Murray is from Pittsburgh so shouldn’t have any sympathy for the Flyers!
Keys to a Ranger victory: Play the same style game they did against Ottawa.
On this date in history: NYR acquire Jaromir Jagr from the Washington Capitals in exchange for future hall of famer Anson Carter. Jagr would play 277 games in NY, scoring 124 goals and tallying 319 points.
