Welcome to Monday boneheads. May this next season put an end to Sam’s lifetime remark!

changes to division teams this off season
Who are the guys who may be UFAs on 8/15?
I posted a link to an article about guys who may be available in August but WordPress ate it as usual. I think I followed their procedure for including a link. One of our admins may be able to release it. It’s from Rinklive magazine back in January so some of these guys may have signed already. Johnny B’s brother is on their.
I fear that Sam’s induction into NY Sports HOF cause his legacy to transcend a mere lifetime
Been catching some NYR Game Replays on MSG-TV as the channel is next to Mets; presume they are showing through out the summer. Interesting to look back at segments of these games and appreciate the level of play which may be lost in the moment.
Hoping Reilly Smith works out as the glue guy for 93/20. How else do they improve is another year older of the yutes; Laffy, Miller, Coolio, Schneids, and most importantly, Kakko and Chytil. If both enigmas are on the 3rd line, they may need VC as adult supervision given their wayward ways on the Dzone.
A 4th line of Coolio-Edstrom-Rempe would be absolutely fantastic imho.
I would hope Cuylle would be ready for something more than 4th line minutes this coming season. He should be more than a banger. They could use secondary scoring from him
Give Cullye a longer leash with the Huggy twins
Cuylle LW?
Coolio is a top 9 player but having him on 3rd line with Flip and Flop would be a del zaster…
Flip wont be here…Johnny be will be 3C
i would be a lot more optimistic if we solved the chytil problem. drury dropped the ball on that one. the guy has no role here. a cup contender would not want him on their team
Byfield 5×6.25. Will be a UFA at 26. Boy that Lafrenière extension is going to be a doozy.
when are you optimistic?
well i give credit for making eastern finals 2 of last 3 years. but could have been better if we solved the chytil problem
hopefully with the short summer our boys can get healthy and strong! Let’s go!
St. Pete’s first post is a lot more morbid if you stop reading before the last word.
Hey, kids! Missed me?! Yeah, I know…
I apologize for not being around much lately. Between working the night shift and caring for my mother-in-law, who has been living with us for the past 4 months, my life feels like a real-life episode of “Survivor.” I’m constantly trying to avoid unsolicited advice and endless reruns of her favorite soap operas.
Is Troobuh still a Ranger?!
Gravy
Eyes wide open!
cccp
hopefully you have a man cave to escape to when needed
hang in there cccp
long season ahead.
C3p0, nobody even knew you were gone.
CCCP has a manroof to escape to. Though no A/C
Cuylle should be a solid 3rd liner if that 3rd line is a real checking line that is looked to for some but not much secondary (tertiary?) scoring. Right now it’s not, and he’s sort of a tweener. He’s got the going-to-the-net part down pretty good but need to become more effective at it. Can’t fault his energy, effort, or playing style at all.
Great 4th liner if the 4th line will actually get real ice time. That’s not an indictment of the player but the roster construction and the role he would need to play right now. Scoring not his primary attribute, which may be why it appeared that he struggled on 3rd line when it was needed to be an even strength scoring line.
Above not safe for viewing by Minx
Disgusting, and I refuse to watch.
For such a big fella Cullyle lost a few too many puck battles in the playoffs. still room and time for growth
If you don’t put someone with balls with the Huggy twins they are just running in place. Cullye should get a shot there ….otherwise split them up already
bobby trolling with the huggy twins references. meanwhile both are far better than his boy chytil.
not trolling its simply pointing out a fact ..if they don’t get someone riding shotgun with balls they will continue to fold against heavy teams
it is trolling and you know it. and they’re the 2nd line based on deployment and aggregate salary
maybe you should criticize chytil who is the softest in the league. or even bread. talking about folding vs heavy teams.
Deployment and aggregate salary? listen to yourself …they are the main problem
you’re clueless bobby. they are a big reason the rangers made eastern finals 2 of last 3 years.
could have done better if solved the chytil problem.
and they are a big reason they didn’t get past the Eastern finals
It’s getting a little testy here in the dog days. Maybe we need to take a dip in the pool. Take a lesson from Drury. Don’t let it ruin your Summer.
fla stopped all the big guns from boston, tampa, rangers and edmonton (in biggest games vs edmonton) . but lets not give the other team major props.
until we solve the chytil problem i don’t expect us to get past the eastern finals and likely won’t even reach that.
your solutions make the team worse… you don’t buy out a center when you have no centers to replace him and you don’t trade one unless you get one back…its not complicated
i don’t expect chytil to be healthy all season. and if he is playing he’ll be totally gun shy with his concussion history. we’ve needed that cap space. he is not top 6 player. he is not 3rd line center. drurys last chance to get rid of him via buyout at 1/3 rate is next summer. doesn’t help this season but this problem needs to go away.
Jane you ignorant slu!
dumb asset management
You both have excellent points. Can’t trade or buy out a center without a center coming back. Chytil is not the answer at 3C, and is more of an accident waiting to happen then the Fragile Finn. So far Drury has his eyes closed hoping for the best.
‘”dumb asset management” except chytil is a liability. drury dropped the ball this summer
There have been centers available the past two seasons, for similar or less than Chytil’s cap, that Drury was not in on, at all or in any big way. So that Chytil is still on the squad and apparently back to 3C is owned by Drury.
One that was available has played in 14 more regular season games but trails in the scoring – 39 vs 64 goals, 62 vs 80 assists.
On the other hand, they have 270 vs 141 blocks, 445 vs 124 hits and 47.9 vs 40.4 FO %.
In 32 playoff games, they have 6G and 6A to Chytil’s 8G 5A in 36 playoff games.
Chytil’s cap hit is $2.5M more.
Another player that was available has played 708 games to Chytils 337 (2.1x). 126 G and 172 A, 389 blocks, 825 hits but a not so good (but still better) 42.1% on FOs. Chytil’s cap hit is $2.4M more.
Are we playing “whats my line”? …maybe Drury thinks the DJ is the checking center based on the situation
The Carolina Hurricanes placed forward Evgeny Kuznetsov on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination on Wednesday.
Don’t want to trigger any boneheads by naming names
name names!
i feel like one of these guys may have won a cup.
SC winner Howden and Vlad Namestoolong
NYR fans couldn’t wait to be rid them and yet they would both fit better on this team than Chytil does and leave an extra $2.5 in cap to have a better RW on the Mika line. Grunts over fly boy wanna be 😉
need another Derrick Dorsett type player. Maybe Carrick?
would also like a Klein on defense
Were the rangers clearing vlad’s $4M cap hit when they traded him at the beginning of the season? His subsequent deal much more reasonable but failure to replace him with another adequate $2M center more recently is squarely on the GM once chytil had “emerged”
Bret Howden C – 6’3″ 200
Morgan Barron LW – 6’4″ 220
With Drury there was one big issue; they were Canadien, eh?
Howden stunk. Would just fall over and wouldn’t use that size. I don’t miss him. They didn’t win cup because of him and we wouldn’t have been more likely to win with him
Barron had promise but he’s more of a tweener with AHL and we needed to use asset to get asset
interesting. Two of the other fights o saw on YouTube were against X rangers. Lemieux and mcilrwrath. But weren’t much as went down to ice quickly.
but was impressed how he stood toe to toe with olivier after Olivier had beat rempe.
also seems to forecheck hard and throw body.
Howden. = Quinn’s son. Lol
Howden and Names are 4th liners and if you put them in at 3C you are just rearranging the deck chairs
saving cap $ as others said bobby
“Lindgren’s arbitration hearing is slated for Aug. 2, so that’s probably the deadline by which you’ll see agreement on what will most likely be a one-year deal in the vicinity of Lindgren’s $3.6 million qualifying offer.”
thanks Stape
Alex if you think that Chytils salary is gonna cover a 3C and Top 6 winger …you would be wrong
bobby
if they got rid of chytil at the beginning of summer, there would have been no need to trade for smith. would then have kept the 2nd they gave up for smith, which could be used at the upcoming deadline. so add savings from smith salary to chytils.
think chess. a few moves ahead
what top 6 RW were they signing? and how quickly would that contract have become a liability?
time to move on for sure, but Chytil a big reason they made the ECF three years ago as well.
don’t think they are getting past ECF until Mika, Panarin and Trouba either are all gone or figure out how to make a positive impact once get passed second round
Trouba shot not be traded. There is no replacement for him. He’s a leader who stabilizes the blue line and plays the hard minutes esp on the PK and keeps attackers honest with his huge hits.
he was big reason we made it to ecf two years ago. This year his injured ankle decreased his effectiveness but when healthy I want him on my team
we have no choice but to get rid of trouba next summer. 13 and 31 in for huge paydays
they’re gonna trade Chytil and a bunch of other assets for 37-goal scorer Frank Vatrano, a guy they could have had the last two seasons at less than Chytil’s salary instead of future HOFers Showtime and Janice Rossi. duuuuuh.
Groulx will play 3c 😊
plenty of high end players like Mika and Bread failed to make it as far as the rangers. Many missed the playoffs altogether.
crazy to hear people want to blow up this core without as soon as they can
I’ll take a year like they just had every year
they had a shot and came up just short.
that’s sports
doesn’t mean the team is broken
they are knocking on the championship door with a lot of the pieces they need with some great players in their primes
Alex your chesss moves leave them with John’s B as the 3c
not necessarily bobby
Drury’s plan is all about strong wings, he knows you can just castle a rook in to attack the center while moving your weaker piece to safety on either side of the rink.
I knew those names would trigger you guys! Totally forgot about M. Barron until SN mentioned. Kid is certainly willing to hit and block shots, 46% at the dot.
We don’t need an “elite” 3C. We need one willing to get dirty, bang around and hopefully not be a defensive disaster. Maybe make a 3rd line that can take some of the matchup stuff off of Mika and Kreider. Heck maybe they might even be able to play PK too? Chytil 337 games, 7:50 SH TOI. Barron had 9:06 in 18G with NYR lol, 231:40 career. Namestoolong 614:29. Howden 462:05.
Not saying it has to be any of those guys but there have been players that could have filled the roll at Chytil cost or less and been better overall for the team.
As to the cap space, take the extra $2.5M and perhaps step up from former penguins? 3rd pair? Sprinkled on the bottom six?
no argument they could have and still can find a better suited player for 3C, but weren’t solving top RW in free agency with cap space cleared by buying out chytil, that amount of cap space could only have come via trouba trade.
Otherwise Longterm cap too big an issue, so short term trade like they made always the most logical move
An Clegg, let’s not forget Trouba’s poor play also turned the Tampa series for the worse last ECF as well. Don’t dislike him, just not quick enough to keep up as a top 4 D
the names thrown out here are “meh” ….Panthers have Lundell as the 3C …and we think Howden as 3C would even things up? I have no issue bringing in a checking 3C but its got to be a good one and its not going to be cheap or easy which seems to be the consensus here… Centers cost more and teams tend to hold on to them
Pete they are spending now 75% of 5M on Smith, so 3.75M. Add in a roughly 1.9M net net had they bought out Chytil and replaced with someone of order 2M cap. Now you are in a different swimming pool for that RW next to Mika, right? Either outright or a player who had a higher cap hit less retention.
There is no perfect solution because Drury has no interest in moving a #21 pick while he can still try to jam the round peg in the square hole.
The names out there may be ‘meh’ but if their addition can make the overall team better, so be it. Note that the team made it to the ECF without Chytil and the handful of games he played (after much praccy and everyone swearing on a bible that he was 100%) he made absolutely no difference on the ice.
And it is not that I hate the kid (though I do worry about his long term health). There is probably a team out there that needs someone with his style of play and capabilities and cost. The NYR need something different.
They made the ECF because Drury traded for a 3C that signed somewhere else for 5M this month.
Hate is a strong word….there is some extreme dislike here though!
Difference of strongly stated opinions imho. Everyone here has their personal likes and dislikes; nobody being hired as GM of any NHL team.
Just focus on the issues; don’t make it personal.
Th irony of the need for a top 6 RWs and the two obvious candidates; Flip and Flop are square pegs in round hole.
1 yr for Lindy should be the deal. Cannot commit long term to injury risk.
Flip and Flop 🤣 🤣
Can kakko play center? Checkmate!
1 year would be higher cap hit than 2
Carrick taking on the heavyweights and coming out on top and can also add value on the ice? Me likey.
2 years would be higher cap hit bobby

off season jamesgeau
just not obvious who they would have spent that $ on in free agency to me Beezle. For instance, had no interest in Guentzel at what he got.
Sign me up if they find a long term answer at RW via trade and for that they should be willing to trade a 1st rounder and a good prospect. Don’t think anyone in our system (or for most part NHL roster) is untouchable if the player coming back has fair amount of term left
You don’t have to give lindgren 6 years but a mid term contract of 3-4 would be fine. He’s only 26. May as well replace him if all you can agree to is 1 yr, that’s a deal you’ll only get once before he walks?
I suspect you are right about where they will wind up with Lindgren. Does Drury want to have to replace him next Summer along with the other things he will have to deal with?
I don’t think the author of the underrated article, understands what underrated means.
Lindgren should have been trade last offseason, if not before. You could see this coming a mile away. Drury has lessened Lindgren’s trade value by waiting till he was a year from UFA. Now the options are, sign him to a deal you know is bad. Go to arbitration, and walk him to free agency, or trade a depreciated asset.
Since he became a regular in 2019 after playing 5 games in 18/19, Lindgren is #58 in GP among all defensemen. The past two seasons he is tied for #100 at 139 games (interesting aside: Pionk tied #1 at perfect 164 games). Even so, in those same two years Lindgren is #2 on NYR in SH TOI at 337:31 to Trouba’s 364:48. KAM is third at 298:11.
I get the injury concerns but can live with him missing 10 games vs whole seasons or months for other players. Get him on for 3 or 4 years with a M-NTC (unrealistic to expect none) in the final two years. We aren’t talking 10M a year here.
at this point, all Lindgren is really known for, is taking a beating, and coming back from it. He’s tough, but what else is he. And as far as injuries/games missed go, how many times this year did Lindgren get hurt during a game, and either miss a significant portion of the game, or the rest of the game? I like him. He’s important. But at what price is being Fox’s sidekick no longer worth it.
Not clear what you guys want to pay for a top 4 defenseman ….Lindgren has vale and aint gonna break the bank
is he really a top 4 Dman?, or is he a product of Fox?
At least Laviolette thinks so
Or is Fox a product of Lindgren? Defensively that is.
Miller hits total last two seasons, 162, 148.
Lindgren hits total last two seasons, 68, 114.
Trouba, 218,191
Schneider, 147,167.
I ask again, what does Lindgren bring to the table that they don’t already have, aside from taking a beating?
What does Drury do with Lindgren? I’m not sure he has a clue. But why is the delicate Czech still our 3C?
let him play out the year and then move on. don’t make the same mistake as with staal and girardi
Who else do they have to play 20 minutes per game on the left side, block shots and kill penalties…?
and Girardi and Staal signed last Ranger contracts when they were older than Lindgren
The blog has advocated for moving Miller, Trouba and Lindgren since the season ended. Gustafson is already gone. That’s a lot of upheaval to deal with on the back end for Drury. Especially for a team that was in the final four last season and aspires to contend next season.
I’ve only advocated for Trouba to be moved due to his contract …he’s a great 3rd pair Dman …if they were paying him 3 or 4 million less
ORF, to me, the left side needed to be changed. 2/3 of it. Either Miller or Lindgren, plus replacing Gus with someone not named Jones. I never thought trading or buying out Trouba made sense. Two years left, rode it out. Having now seen the cap problems for 25/26, only one of the two seasons of Trouba contract is sustainable. So he goes next summer regardless.
Remove Trouba lindgren goodrow and don’t replace them with others that style of play we’ll all (most) be here next year kvetching the rangers aren’t tough enough to make it out of the second round? Can’t win.
Going forward find a beast to protect the Fox. Drury make a hockey trade please.
Miller Schneider
? Fox
Lindgren Trouba
Trouba and Goodrow, yes, difficult to replace. Lindgren is easier to replace. The Rangers believe Carrick is the Goodrow replacement, at a 1/3 of the price.
unless the Rangers believe that Mancini is ready to replace Trouba, and it’s possible they do, then replacing Trouba is much more difficult than haters want to believe.
Eli, you put exactly like I would have. Meaning the spot to target would be a big LD to play with Fox.
Utb
Yeah it’s not complicated, but finding that right guy will cost some assets in a hockey trade. Drury doesn’t have a lot to work with. And 3C is still an issue.
Okay so big tough capable defenseman to play top line minutes and for less than $3M is the ask? 🤷♂️
How many of Miller’s hits were to move someone from netfront? Probably not many as he doesn’t seem to be in that area very often. Lindgren spends more time there.
Also not sure what it means to “protect” Fox. Do you mean like physically? So Fox skates with his own personal enforcer? Or do you mean protect Fox defensive liabilities because of his offensive first focus?
The issue with Trouba from day one has primarily been the contract. See how things develop during the season, still possible he is a deadline move though I would not retain more than 25%.
Beezle
Yes, to protect Foxs’ defensive liabilities because of his offensive first focus.
At the right price, Trouba is fine at 3rd pair, and Dajenabiz fine at 3C. Unfortunately they are both overpaid. Maybe Dajenabiz will turn it around and become what he’s paid to be. But I’ll be speechless if he does. You can’t turn a cotton swab into a walnut.
His play was the biggest issue in the last two ECFs. wouldn’t have been any more acceptable if he was making $1m/yr. Only difference is he would have been scratched
Drury should be thinking hard (in light of the Trouba contract) about Fox’s contract. Risk/reward is precarious with that hit, selling high often the better thing to do in the long run.
Beezle

I was unaware of this. Disappointed on many levels. Just saw a clip of Panarin scoring a goal. Shouldn’t he be in the gym?
https://russianmachineneverbreaks.com/2024/07/14/alex-ovechkin-among-many-nhl-players-playing-in-all-star-game-against-khl-players/
Brendan Dillon would have been the guy for me. I think he got 3×4 from the Devils. Would have been perfect for Fox. Forget about trading for Smith. Use Othmann, Cuylle, or graven forbid, Kakko with K and Z.
Dillon, Fox, Miller, Schneider, Lindgren Trouba. Who says no?
Dillon is 33 and projected as 3rd pair on Devils
Panarin and the gym are mutually exclusive!
think Miller Fox pairing is gonna get a long look this year anyway
Miller+Fox? Are they the new fourth line wingers? I’m not feeling a lot of good defense there.
Luke Hughes, and Jonas Siegenthaller the other LD the Devils have. Something tells me 3rd pair Dillon is going to get an awful lot of ice time.
From Brad Penner USA Today
Could a blockbuster trade see Mitch Marner and Timothy Liljegren donning the blue and red of the New York Rangers and the Maple Leafs pick up Alexis Lafreniere and Jacob Trouba?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A big no to Mitch Marner and anyone else from Toronto. They have not won a Cup since before Jets won the Superbowl. Marner is Panarain;great in the regular season and shrinks in the playoffs.
Rangers should clear as much cap space next 2 years and make a run at Connor Mc David.
Hey you never know. Another very good Oiler might lead us to the Promised Land.
I know it’s a pipe dream, but it is the dog days of summer and being a Rangers fan all I have a very good memories and dreams.

I have a question: Do any of the registered users use this site in reader mode? It’s a really cool way to post. You have a dedicated reply button for each post, which allows you to reply directly to someone, similar to Facebook. The most recent comments stay up so you don’t have to scroll down every time. In my opinion, the interface also looks much cleaner.
Panarin is in a ready form…almost.
https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9pYe9GocHq/?igsh=emMzZWk0d3NhbXh2
like it
So we will see the Michigan from Panarin next season. How many of those were scored in the playoffs?
“I watch this show and I see a team that is basically every player is evaluated individually, so they’re adding talent, not building a team. That’s my one concern.”
That comment was made by a former GM about the NY Giants on “Hard Knocks” but seems to me that kind of applies to how NYR have been going now for the past eight years or so.
I regret to inform I’ve not yet had time this summer to seek out an alternative to word press. Will try to get it on the agenda.
Beezle
You can do this, the Minx believes in you.
Sweet! The problem is that you cannot see who “likes” the comments.
2. Panerin move was the Zoro I believe and fun to see him having fun on the ice in the offseason. He’s a guy who’s work ethic and love of the game I never worry about.
3. Trouba is not a 3rd pair D. He was deployed on a different pair when he was a. Hurt and b. Lavy needed to try a different balance. He still got 1st pair minutes. Or did you see him go 12 min some night?

BMB is not on the same level as Laba. Silly to rank him higher. Korzac is not a prospect.
dreaming if you think Lafrenière comes in at 6. He will be between 8 and 10.
Perreault, Othmann, Berard, Laba, Mancini. Those are the Rangers top 5 prospects.

That’s Dom’s model at the Athletic that had the Rangers scrambling to make the playoffs. It’s really like a fantasy league model that tends to overvalue offense. It also doesn’t account for cap realities. There are currently no $15MM players in the NHL.
Fox is a great offensive D. He is undersized and was banged up a good deal of last year but still was productive in the regular season. The cheap shot he took in the playoffs limited his effectiveness in the ECF. I’d like him to play less minutes to save on wear and tear over the long run and keep him fresh for the playoffs.
Corp. Clegg – wowza; 13 yo going to light up his eyes early with the funk. I have older brothers and was introduced very early to rock concerts which led me to see Zeppelin at MSG in 77 and the Dead at the Coliseum in 79 & 80. Took my daughter to DMB w/ Sheryl Crow opening at Fenway when she was 11.
Keep on Rockin in the Free World.
Dom is the leader of the brunch brigade. Loves the point compilers while de-emphasizing Defense. He’s pretty much wrong 110% of the time
It’s approaching 24 hours since the last post. This is a test. 10 days until Lindgren’s arbitration hearing. I hope Drury comes back form vacation in time for it.
that’s awesome SN!
what a weekend. Fantastic both nights.
when he was 11 his first show was jones beach. He keeps wanting more. I waited to take him until it was his choice to see them. He is very mature intelligence wise for his age. I also make sure he has very good ear protection.
The real little kids that are brought there unwittingly I’m not sure I agree with.
the other shows we’ve seen as father and son that he’s loved are Jason Bonham Led Zeppelin experience, Brit Floyd, GreenSky bluegrass
my daughter loves Ben Folds (she’s 14) so we just saw him at a cool venue at a winery on the finger lakes
I am finally over my 3rd round of covid with shingles sprinkled in. It’s been a wonderful 2 weeks. Applause excepted!
Got to be some payolla involved
Official: Salt Lake City named host for 2034 Winter Olympics.
St. Pete-that sounds awful. Glad to hear you are on the mend.
ORF
Thank you, thank you very much!
Minx glad you are feeling better. Had a friend that had shingles, didn’t look like it was much fun! I got the two shot shingles vax a few years ago, so far so good.
Beezle
Thanks. I had the shots as well still got shingles. Fortunately it wasn’t unbearable.
St Pete’ Glad to here you are getting better. It stinks when you take all the precautions not to get sick,be it covid or shingles and still fall ill. I and my wife have both been lucky the last few years taking all vaccination’s as soon as they are available. So far we are batting 1000%; let’s hope and pray it stays that way.
Summer stinks for Range fans;especially when both Chytil and Miller are still on the team. Goota hope someone is moved; if not it will be another season of no Cup.
LGR
Q: What does Lindgren bring to NYR?
A: Intestinal fortitude (i.e. – a spine)
that’s a great quality. What else ya got?, besides being Adam Fox’s buddy.
Used to Be Hates Lindy!
Can we go all Freaky Friday with Miller and Lindy?
I understand that Lindgren is an important player. I also understand that Lindgren takes a beating every season, and no longer gives a beating. Tough decisions have to be made in a cap league. Lindgren is not a guy to give term. Should have traded him last summer. Now Lindgren and his agent feel they have leverage. 1 season from being a UFA. If he’s not getting what he wants from the Rangers, then test the market. Does anyone doubt that someone will give Lindgren a stupid contract next summer? Hopefully it’s not Drury.
what term would be a problem for Lindy…4 years or more?
4 would be max for me, but because Lindgren is in the position he is, it won’t be enough. 4×4 would be good for me. On the open market, he will get more.
Rempe in Stamford training with Kreider. In other news, Trouba last seen doing his wife’s laundry.
4 by 4 would be fine — dont think arbitration would take him more than 4.5 for one or 2 years …that term would be okay
Lindy is not the answer. Everyone seems to like the little guy who tries hard but just a wee man who will just wear down over the next few years. One and done.
rempe training with Kreider is a good thing for him!
There are no other answers …at least not for this year and next. If they sign him more than 2 years he could still be a good 5/6
he won’t sign for 2 years since he’d be ufa in 1
Ran into a guy in Burlington yesterday that might have been Chytil’s agent (or BobbyO) 🤣 Was also strongly in support of making Igor the highest paid goalie. Oddly, it was well past brunch time.
Hopefully it wasn’t Drury. I have met him. I referred a couple of his kid’s games years ago before the purge.
YAWN…
Double Yawn!
the WJC summer showcase is currently taking place. The Rangers have Perreault and Emery participating ( different teams). Perreault had 2 goals yesterday. Didn’t really see anything on Emery, but the team he was on gave up 2 goals.
BTW, anyone still have doubts that Lafrenière is getting 8 plus , after seeing the Konecny contract?
UTB I think Laffy is going to have to step it up to another level to get that kind of coin
ages 19/22 seasons. Konecny, 299/83/72/181.
Lafrenier, 298/75/73/148.
Konecny 12 PP goals. Lafrenière 5.
83/102/185 for Konecny.
35 PP assists for Konecny. 7 for Lafrenière.
Konechny should get paid
2 x $6.5M for Necas
8 x $8.5M for Brock Faber
Wild management should be shown the door
He’s 5 years older than LAF. How is that a comparable? In 2019 At age 22 he signed a 6 year contract at a $5.5 AAV. That a comparable contract. LAF has five years and another contract before he reaches Konecny’s age. I hope his numbers well be better over that period and he makes more. LAF will be better than a 60 point player.
Maybe that Fox contract isn’t so bad
At least Fox won the Norris before the big contract. He had similar numbers to Fox in his first season. His hit totals and blocks are higher. He is bigger and more physical than Fox. Probably not a horrible contract.
Lafren has always the look of a gamer but the points needed to follow. If he puts up another 60 point season he’s in the conversation for that type of contract. Konecny needed to put up three 60+ seasons to get that contract. Lafreniere has stayed pretty healthy too, which adds to his value. Konecny’s been out of the lineup a bunch. The big question may be whether Lafren puts up these kinds of numbers when he’s not the opposite wing from Bread having a career year or whether he’s a big part the reason that happened.
My Mom met Brady Thatchuk at the track this weekend…. “a nice young man and very resepectful” She did did some recruiting for Rangers..he said has 3 more years on his contract
Lindgren 1 yr 4.5 MM
can revisit long term on Jan 1.
Eric Staal has signed a one-day contract and will officially retire as a member of the Hurricanes
“great family”
Sign Eric Staal for 3C
That answers the question, yes somebody will overpay Ryan lindgren next year
When all 3 of them retire they can start their shuffleboard business.
Head Check Shuffleboard Inc.
Hope Lindgren has a successful and healthy last year as a Ranger!
Someone will give him 5.5 or 6 assuming he stays healthy.
IMHO Drury should have signed Lindgren to a longer term contract and lowered the annual salary. He is a heart and sole player. Now, he will be gone by next summer and once again the team gets softer and softer. Drury needs to go!!! If Lindgren goes, Dolan might as well tear it down to the studs and start all over again. If Drury offers Igor a 12 Million dollar contract, he needs to be fired before Igor can sign the contract.
In 3 or 4 years, Lindgren will be a shell of himself. Book it.
This coming year just may be the cores last shot. 2026 would then be the restructure year at the deadline.
Lindgren may not have been interested in a long term contract at a lower salary. He wants to test the market. Drury needs to see what he has in the system and be prepared for Lindgren to walk.
Canadiens getting work done: Kaiden Guhle is 6 years x $5.55 million.
Drury has decided to run it back with minimal changes. Improvement will have to come from within. Igor seems to be the only thing left on Drury’s plate now. 12 MM is 30% above what any top goalie has gotten in the last 2 years and more than most good teams can fit under their cap. Drury needs to decide what he is willing to pay him and act on it.
If Lindgren is a first pair D he will look for similar dollars and term. I assume Drury wasn’t willing to go there. What’s the plan?
Trouba situation forced the run back ..I think the plan is Fox/Miller on 1st pairing
Igor, Lafrenière, and Miller being up for contracts in 25/26, has caused them to run it back. They could not give out term. Which is why Lindgren only got one year. They will probably go for it at the deadline this year, regroup in 25/26, and the start going for it again in 26/27.
Drury has no choice but to trade Trouba next summer. Panarin of the books after 25/26. Kreider of the books after 26/27. Both of course could re-sign. It would have to be for less than they are currently getting.
if he had 6-8 million to play with he didnt have to give out term
I’m not so sure Drury would have had as much as you think, or would have used it immediately. I forget which insider had this, but the rumor was, Trouba to Detroit, with some retained by the Rangers. I think i saw 2 million retained. In exchange for Justin Holl. Holl makes 3.4, and the plan, supposedly, was to buyout Holl. 2 mill savings on cap, with a 1.4 hit for 4 years.
You guys all seem to think the cap will not go up at all over the next 2-4 years. Cap Friendly, priod to demise, expected around $92M for 25/26.
General comment about the various signings of the past few years.
What is the point of ELCs and RFAs if teams are going to do six (or more!) year extensions one or two years in, at full market value of an experienced vet? The argument that “oh we might have to pay more later” is stupid. You save considerably on cap until that point, you find out if the player will even be worth that lofty contract and finally, barring pandemics, the cap will continue to climb.
If clubs are not going to use the leverage available to them in the CBA they might as well flip to the NFL way of handling contracts and cap.
a very quick look at the cap for 25/26, with giving 6/6/10 for Miller, Lafrenière, and Shesterkin, I have them at around 71 mill with just Panarin, Fox, Zibanejad, Kreider, Trochek, Chytil, Schneider, Miller, Lafrenière, and Shesterkin. That’s all of 11 players. My Miller, Lafrenière and Shesterkin estimates are on the low side. That’s not including Trouba, and Kakko. If they can’t trade Trouba, and Kakko has a big year, well, you can see when I’m going with this.
ITs an election year who knows if the Cap will go up
Beezle-completely agree. The owners shut down the league on multiple ocassions to force the cap and all the rules on the players that are designed to contain salaries. They then consistently overpay players who have zero leverage. WTF!
Did the Wild think someone was going to give that salary as an offer sheet to Faber next Summer? If that happened they still can match or take the draft picks. What was the hurry? He’s a good player but not Bobby Orr.
ORF there isn’t much in the system defensively? Drury will likely have to look for an entire third pair externally.

Such a likeable kid. Too bad he blows chunks. 🙃
You’re probably right. I haven’t given up on him as a hockey player yet.
can’t wait for 93 to be shown the door..soft..low energy..non playoff player..sick of his play and as St Pete always says (and I agree 100%)..we will never win w 93.
that rempe article was amazing!
can’t wait for this kid to prove his critics wrong
we’ve been waiting to draft someone like him. Hand wringing about all the smurfs along the way.
imagine he was an islander ? 🤮
