The Rangers went to Philadelphia with a new guardian and emerged safe, unhurt and with a 2-1 victory over the Filth. In notching the win, the team has equaled the franchise record for consecutive wins at 10, previously met during 1939/40 and 1972/73 seasons.
Ladies, gentlemen and the rest, welcome to the Rempe Show!
A week ago the above statement would have been preposterous and unlikely to have even been thought at all. And yet, here we are today with the #1 star of the game, holder of the Broadway hat, Matt Rempe:
Rempe (1) scored the game winning goal at 06:31 of the 3rd period doing what he should be doing – making life really difficult for opposing goalies. The initial shot was made by Schneider from above the circle, re-directed by Goodrow and then deflected off of Rempe’s ankle and in. This broke a 1-1 tie. Lafreniere (17) had put the Rangers up 1-0 at 11:56 of the 2nd on a hard wrist shot from the top of the circle after a nice drop pass by Trocheck.
The Filth played a hard game and created a lot of problems for the Rangers with their forecheck. However, Shesterkin was up to the task, stopping 39 of 40 shots. If there is one thing to critique in this win streak, it is that the team is giving opponents way too many scoring opportunities.
And now back to the Rempe show!
Just as in the Devil’s game two nights before, young Mr. Rempe kick started the team but tonight it was with a heavy weight bout that could have been called by Cosell, the Thrilla in Philla. While some biased reports give the match to Deslauriers, our card had it 10-9 Rempe, Deslauriers losing a point for pulling the jersey over Rempe’s head prior to the take down. You be the judge:
Next up, travel to Columbus on February 25th, 6:00 PM EST on MSG and BSOH.

AWESOME for Rempe. I can’t imagine what that would feel like to be him today. And listening to his interview makes you want him to succeed so badly. Shesty has been lights out lately. Quick in tomorrow for history!
another nice win.
Asslanders lose, so even better!
let’s see what energy the rangers can muster together for tomorrow afternoon in Columbus.
Rempe. Legend.
“If something happens, [Rempe] can jump in and kill somebody,” goaltender Igor Shesterkin said.
Igor, Igor. I think what you really mean to say was “rearrange somebody.” Don’t want to get the man involved, do you?
Glad we held on to that one, Philly really choked at the end.
Curious why Trochek wasn’t brought on to take a key faceoff on the PK at the end there. Instead leaves on Goodrow, who quickly lost the draw.
Lav has pushed a lot of right buttons this year, but think he could be better looking past a player’s name/rep when they are struggling and instead go with the more deserving player in the moment (eg not perpetually let Mika be on the 1st pp unit or Goodrow in a key defensive moment like aforementioned)
Trochek was like 2 for 18 for draws.
Beezle – that may be the best game review post in the history of the RR2 blog. You want video? How about 3 of them? You want a pic on top that summarizes the feelings of the real fan base? Do you want a write up capturing the fun that is happening?
Thank you my friend. Excellent job!! Ilya and James would both be proud and also wondering why you weren’t doing these from the get go.
Philly brute had hisself some welts and cuts. Our boy came out of it (again) like Gere’s date in Pretty Woman.
Deslaurier should face fine and suspension for setting up this phony, self-aggrandizing fight in warm-ups… At the very least, he should have been slammed with an additional deuce for delay of game.
Nice write up Beezle
That filth forecheck was relentless.
Zebras will watch our boy like treed hawks and will make some unfair calls IMO that will hurt us.
Torts has his team banging and clanging. Devil his due.
Does Busto finally hit the 20 goal mark? Confidence increases speed, he isn’t as slow as I thought he was. Maybe we should keep him.
Pete,
I have always felt all coaches, not just Laviolette, fail to adjust when someone who normally doesn’t get a lot of ice time is going good. You get 12 minutes no matter how you are playing. Having said that, who would you have liked to see get more time instead of Z? Trochek played 25 minutes. You were not happy with Goodrow yesterday, and Brodzinski was getting caved every time he was on the ice.
Eddie Munster found his Lurch?
Still need that tough checking 3C. Yanni Gourde, anyone?
would number 1 get them Dowd/Mantha combo?
Would love Mantha, but he would certainly demand a 1st. Dowd? I could see that. But would rather have Gourde, who I have been suggesting for a few years now.
Hopefully Rempe doesn’t have to fight every goon in the league. His reach gives him a big advantage. Even when he gets his his opponent has trouble reaching him and the blows don’t have much impact.
it’s more of can they address 2 needs with the first rounder rather than one
everyone is going to cost a first, until they don’t.
Mantha left the Cats game injured. So there’s that.
SN, thank you for the kind words, Writing it was a cartharis of sorts while waiting on some family news last night. I hope Ilya and James would not think it was too over the top!
Would expect some of the rumors out there may be Drury’s attempt at cooling the ask prices of some of these players. Whenever a NY team is in the mix the price sky rockets.
I think Monohan getting a first has gummed up the works.
Did VC play yesterday? All I remember was McDummer touching himself while talking about his Hobey Baker award and having attended Hahvahd at the beginning of the game.
SN hates vesey ..imagine if he wasn’t making 800k
161st overall
165th overall
who needs R1s??
Beez….. thanks for the great work you are doing here. I appreciate it a great deal.
You gotta love this Rempe kid….not only is he a tough guy but he is eloquent in his speech.I don’t remember him uttering one uhhhh…..or ah ah ah or a you know. Not one. Speaks well and can beat the daylights out of guys…..and scored a goal. Also, and this is really important…..he clearly takes pride in putting on the Rangers sweater and demonstrates that on the ice. I like the 4th line. The Edstrom kid is a beast as well. These guys are not be trifled with a give the Rangers a dimension we have not really seen from them since Moses wore short pants.
Beez I just wrote a comment that seems to have been swallowed again. Is it possible to retrieve it or is it in the wind
I could give a rats arse what he makes. The disappearing act happens every time he moves up and plays against the opponents checking line and top 4 D.
this now almost guarantees he has a hat trick tonite…
1RW/C – need a hybrid for depth; scraper/shooter
3LD – Need a shut down banger; Gusto has been great but need some size and strength
3C – 2way with D first mindset. That line was a del zaster yesterday
4C/W – more size, depth and snarl for the PO push
BDL, on the pp i would give Laf some minutes on the first unit instead of Mika who just looks so apathetic whenever he has the puck. To the point where wonder if he has long covid or some autoimmune issue (is it lupus? god it’s lupus isn’t it!)
Don’t care if he wasn’t having the best day at the dots, if there is a key faceoff to take and we can switch our center then it has to be Trochek in my opinion
His $2m salary for next year isn’t ideal, but Sturm from SJ won’t cost a 1st or even a 2nd in my opinion. Not going to give you much offense at all, but big defensively responsible, good at faceoffs and not know to be a soft player from what i’ve read.
Dowd would be good too, but Caps aren’t out of the mix yet and he may well end up costing more than he is worth if Henrique and the Seattle guy get moved first, especially to trade to a division rival given he has a year left on his deal.
Gourde would be the ideal get (besides touch too much $), just can’t see Seattle moving him absent being blown away with an offer. Francis a big fan of his by all accounts and important to have good veteran leadership for an expansion team. Expect he will be offered an extension this summer
3rd line did stink yesterday.
kakko was ok, but Cuylle and esp BroBoySki weren’t very eff3ctive
Phil Mushnick joke:
Man walks into a diner for breakfast. A waitress approaches. She’s scratching her rear end.
“Do you have hemorrhoids?” he asks.
“Whatever you see on the menu,” she answers.
Vesey is a 4th liner, he’s playing above his pay grade next to Mika.
Matt Rempe – a living legend.
is it safe to say Oliver Wahlstrom is a bust?
Admiral
Man, was I wrong about Wahlstrom. What happened to that dude?
You know what we don’t hear enough of anymore? Goalie controversy… 🙂
Pete,
lafrenier certainly should be getting more PP time
CCCP , agree on our no.1 goalie. He has looked very good of late. That stat from last week where he leads the league in being beaten high to the glove side is scary especially in playoffs. Hope Benny is woking on that in season.
All in all they have been fun to watch. BUT. Let me see them play well and beat Fla, Carolina, and Boston then I will be sold on them. That being said let’s all root for a team record 11 in a row tonight and just for his health,no fights for no.73. LGR
The only advantage of Gourde over Henrique is Gourde still has a year left on contract at 5.2 per. Yes, has TB playoff experience. Rear view mirror on that. Even at 2.6 per I’d look elsewhere. If Drury is going all in on this run, future be darned, Henrique is the better get.
Gourde is small at 5’9 173 vs 6’0 195 Henrique (though even that is not very big), Henrique 16G 21A vs 7 G 14A for Gourde on a better team. Gourde is meh at the dot (47.8, 48.6 career) while Henrique is well over 50% since 2018 (50.0 career).
I would hope the team could do better than Gourde over the summer filling the 3C for the next two or three seasons.

Don’t agree with their tally. Rempe kicked the crap out of Deslauries. Look at his left forhead
Beezle
Excellent point on Henrique vs Gourde. You’ve convinced me that Henrique may be the better get. I cannot believe I said that.
St Pete Agree Vesey does nothing for our top line. Stricty a valuable 4 line player
VC was Bread in Harvard Yard, but is just a crumb up here.
Two- on- none late in a one-goal game? What are we watching, St. Dominick’s Prep?
Loneranger – a lot of the voters on that site believe the “take down” is some kind of measuring stick for who won the fight. In this case Des clearly tripped up Rempe because he didn’t want to get face punched anymore (for which I don’t blame him, that guy came out looking like bruised fruit and he’s one tough customer).
Rempe still getting the decision on an unusually large number of votes, and the fight is rated like 9.4. Rempe is an instant legend over there. Time to get this guy a real number on his sweater.
shouldn’t expect too much of Vesey on the KZV line. clearly a misfit role, if he’s not grossly screwing up and giving away scoring chances I think one has to be satisfied with. cant put the line out there with only two bodies on the ice!
Henrique with retention likely is our first plus a prospect (berard? sykora? Fortescu?).
God help us what Verbeek would demand for Henrique (with retention) and Vatrano
Rich – on top of it all Rempe doesn’t seem like he’s out there looking for trouble. These tough guys are challenging him and he answers the bell. He’s throwing heavy checks effectively but not ranging around out of position hurting the team and just trying to injure guys. You can tell he really wants to contribute on the ice.
Missed this yesterday from Brooks, was part of a Derbils headline:
Hey, Des - Remove your helmet and visor if you’re such a tough guy and you arrogantly instigate an in-game Hollywood fist fight pre-game Philly fans suck.
McGratten, 34, KO’d in minor league game, stretchered off.
Davidson with yet another brutal season wandering between jobs at Columbus. When will the hockey world wake up to his opinionated ineffectiveness?
Will the opportunity to set a franchise win streak record be enough to motivate the Rangers not to under-play another last place opponent? Film at 11!
Dowd Paciioretti and Edmundson
filth forecheck not quite as aggressive as it was against the blue shirts.
