Rangers 4, Kraken 1

Published by

on

The Rangers opened the game a little slow and tentative which led to early pressure from the Kraken. Was this going to be a repeat of the Predator’s game?

About two minutes in, play was stopped by the on ice officials as a few of the lights in one corner appeared to have gone out. Though slightly dimmer, the decision was made to continue play and for the teams to switch ends at the first stoppage after the 10 minute mark of each period.

Seattle got on the score sheet first with a goal by Schultz from the circle at 8:41. Definitely a goal Quick would like back, he had a good look at it but slid too far across the net to make a play on the puck. 1-0

About three minutes, later Lindgren made a smart dump in that drew much of the Kraken defense down low. Though they got to the puck first behind the net, Lafreniere caused a turnover. The puck, and most of the Seattle defense, moved out to Chytil along the boards. Chytil quickly spotted a wide open Panarin on the other side of the ice, passing the puck over to him for a shot up and over the shoulder of Grubauer. 1-1 at 12:15

That goal seemed to really pick the Rangers up and from that point they more or less controlled the pace and overall game. Seeing that Panarin had something going tonight, Laviolette got him extra ice time by sitting Wheeler on a few shifts.

The 2nd period (and the rest of the game) continued with the same lighting issue. This would not hold the Rangers back and at 13:02 Kakko cleaned up a loose rebound in the crease off a hard point shot from Trouba. 2-1

With two minutes left in the period, a nifty exchange began with Lafreniere stealing and then passing the puck from just behind the net back up to Chytil near the circle. Chytil skated and deeked down towards the net before dishing a pass back to Lafreniere, now up in front, who put the puck home. 3-1 at 17:59

The 3rd period would become a bit chippier with the Kraken down 3-1 (but not for long). Miller skated the puck up the ice from his own end into the offensive zone before passing it off to Chytil. Chytil again spotted Panarin, this time centered in traffic, sending him a wish pass that was deflected in the air. Panarin managed to get and steady the puck before wristing it behind Grubauer. This was Panarin’s second of the night and Chytil’s third assist. Miller notched his second assist as well. 4-1 at 5:30

Around the 9 minute mark was the first scuffle. Gourde put a hard hit on Chytil. Fox returned the favor with a shove and then Kreider with a cross check. Gourde and Kreider then quickly ended up on the ice with only a few swings by Gourde. The result was a 10 minute misconduct to Gourde and double roughing minors to both Gourde and Kreider. Gourde’s night was done and he was sent off ice.

Less than two minutes later, Trocheck had a tilt with McCann. They had had words not long before and Trocheck made McCann’s head look like a speed bag

The Kraken continued to play hard and Quick had to make a number of pressured saves in the last six or so minutes to preserve the win and prevent a last minute Chinese fireplace. He finished with 18 saves.

All in all, a good bounce back win and on to Canada and the Calgary Flames.

The game when Flip learned that passing leads to good things. Huge strides.

Need 3 strong pivots and thought they all played 200 ft games last night

Laffy had a great game making smart plays on wall and Kakko scored a Kreider goal from 3” away. Key was getting shot on goal and forcing goalie to make save and deal with rebound.

West bonding trip could pay dividends. Stay tuned.

Better effort, Let’s see if they can sting a few together. They don’t look as slow(except Wheeler) when they aren’t thinking as much. Wheeler may be Jarret Stoll 2.0 without the Cups or Erin Andrews.

I’ll bank the two points, but I won’t read too much into NYR’s performance; Kraken aren’t a particularly strong squad at the moment.

My three songs of the match:

Billy Squire – In The Dark
Ric Ocasek – A Quick One

Something to watch and evaluate after another 10 games or so will be the kids who have been more noticeable so far. Separating and integrating them throughout the lineup looks like it’s working to the benefit of the entire team.

Certainly seemed like a much higher compete level last night, especially on the boards. It seems to me they are throwing more pucks to the net and going to the net more for rebounds. Does anyone else see that or is it just wishful thinking on my part? Let’s hope they can start competing consistently.

Good write up. The brouhaha with Trocheck started after his clean hit on Dumoulin behind the net. It was great to see the team bounce back from the stinker against the Preds and not only come from behind but play with structure, discipline, and consistency of effort. Aside from that goal that Quick gave up he played a good game too.

In general I have not been the biggest fan of Chytil. One thing I notice this year is that – to my eye at least – he appears more willing to dump a puck or make a sensible pass during zone entries rather than trying to beat a defender one-on-one, at which he has only rarely been successful and more often than results in a turnover and chances the other way. Coaching? Personal growth? Am i fooling myself?

Miller demoted, shocked, played better. About time all his Coaching and Press sycophants stopped telling him how good he is. He needed a kick in the keester and he finally got one. Maybe it’s a start, but unlikely.

Only criticism of this game was in period 1 , gustafPeters’on was on the ice at least 2 maybe three times in a row with the first line (Mika’s line) and he had horrid turnovers and shows very low hockey iq with his wish passes that killed offensive zone posession time

And the O zone is supposed to be his strength ?!?

I think right now we have the bipolar Rangers…. they’re up they’re down. Perhaps by December we will know who the real Rangers are. Maybe a tweek here and there to the lineup and perhaps we might have something.
Also they need to keep their feet out the cement buckets. Good things happen when you think move and react quickly.

Gravy is the better FO% because of the guy at the dot or because of the players around him? So many times in the past the NYR guy taking the faceoff “won” it but his teammates were unable to get possession either because of bad positioning, poor stick work or just being out muscled

Minx, Coos, EV et al: I spoke with CCCP about how I could help out.

I’ve agreed to help and will primarily focus on making sure there is always a go-time and writing up some of the post games (note: I’m rarely up as early as Ilya was so west coast games might be later that 7 AM 😴)

As to “moderating” – really not my thing but if I see (before CCCP) a drive by shooting/spam or something really over the top I’ll act – otherwise that kinda stuff falls upon CCCP.

My personal view is as long as you guys are respectful to each other, I’m good. If something looks like its going into the gutter, I’ll tip CCCP to take a look and decide how far is too far.

Also, in checking on WordPress (not a fan) I’ve discovered it now uses an AI to pre-detect comment spam. This may explain why some of your posts go to spam for no apparent reason. So… don’t write like a bot or chat-gpt 😉

  67. Beezle Avatar

Minx – on the staggered starts – the option is always there to watch more than one. I guess this is more about the “Foxwoods final 5” than the rest of the game?

On a weekday my limit is pretty much one game; by the time the NYR are over its catch the headlines and weather and walk the dog and off to bed. Weekends different story!
