NY Rangers continue their first big road trip of the seaons with a tilt against the Calgary Flames. Calgary, coming off a 111 pt 21/22 season, disappointed last year with just 93 points and no playoffs.
Though some expect a strong bounce back for the Flames, others fear a continue spiral down in the standings. In late September the Flames re-signed 34 year old Mikael Backlund to a two year year $9M deal and named him their new captain; he has two assists so far after 6 games. Flames are banged up at center with Honzek likely out another month; Rooney (regular) and Pelletier (season opening) are both on IR.
It also appears there is already some tension in the Flames lockerroom:
Ranger Nick Bonino is probably a game time decision, he has a non-hockey illness.
The unusal starting time is by decree from Gary Bettman to stagger the starting time of all 16 games tonight.

Good road game. Played pure counterattack in the 3rd, lots of time in their own end, but defended well, kept shots to the outside, cleared the crease pretty well, blocked a lot of shots. Low shot count over all, Shesty was solid. The Violet should be happy.

I don’t mind this win.
A bit sloppy at times, but overall shut it down defensively after a jittery start. Igor was Igor and that always helps. Face offs could’ve killed us tonight, but….again, good job protecting the net and good job by the guy in the net.
