Good morning, boneheads!
I’m too much of a Rangers fan to be able to review a game like that.
I’m just going to say that the Devils beat them twice not by playing Devils game, but by playing Rangers game, and by being opportunistic. They were able to neutralize Rangers’ strength the way our boys did it to them twice in NJ.
I think it’s time for Gallant to show that he can adapt and change his gameplan. I think it’s time for all this leadership, and for a couple of new people brought in just for that, to show what they can do. I don’t think last two losses have much to do with Schmid. In fact, I suspect we will see much more low shots from now on.
2-2 after 4. Why does that sound familiar?

Agreed 100% ilb.
Let’s see what the leadership corp of this group is capable of. Let’s see the imported experience, as well as Trouba can do.
Where would the Debs be w/o #86?
Down 1-3 or possibly swept, imho.
I’m keeping the faith that the Rangers will answer the bell on Thursday.
I predicted Rangers in 6 or 7. That means they would lose games in the series. I’m still on track to be correct! It’s up to them. I have no control over the games, so I don’t let losses ruin my day. Let’s see what happens, it’s the playoffs!
Exactly, NYR in 6 still in play.
NYR were an OT goal away from being up 3-0. That said, I get the PTSD feelings of deja vu from last year.
PTSD from last year, and every year before that except for 94, which they also almost blew.
Gallant then continued:
lol Beezle… the blog part is hilarious
Rangers in 8.
Guess I’ll chime in. No panic or negativity here just disappointment. To have to hear a coach talk about how they didn’t show up or play hard enough at this stage of the season- at this stage of the Rangers development as a team- is disappointing for sure. Kreider, Zibanejad, Kane, Tarasenko, Panarin, Trouba. This is the leadership core for this run..These guys need to be reminded to show up? With the amount of hockey they’ve played in their careers, with the amount of playoff hockey they’ve played in their careers?
That’s a shame. You would hope by now that isn’t something we’d have to hear about.
Minx: I may be the old man of RR2 at 74
Isn’t Coos in triple digits? 😉
So have to say Gallant sounds a heck of a lot like DQ, just with sniffles. The complaints the past four to five years have been pretty much the same.
Don’t see enough games of other teams to say whether it is just a generational thing with all players or just that the NYR management is skilled at signing guys without motors.
i think they need to trade cooscoos boy this off season
saw third line guys pics on a milk carton
Kid line is MiA.
Maybe it’s the Devils just playing a suffocating team game more so than the Rangers not showing up?
Maybe if Shesterkin makes a couple of more saves…
Lafreniere needs to establish himself as a real player. Enough already.
Hughes/Hischier vs Lafreniere/Kakko… who wins that comparison?
Same Rangers, same disappointing result.
“Jamesgeau” (if those are even a thing around here any more)
Enough. Rangers win the next 3.
Maybe next year, Maybe next year, Maybe next year. Blah blah blah! Where is the 11 million dollar man? Mika? Trouba? This core eventually wilts under pressure. I will say this they are constant.
NJD had all the pressure on them the last two games, but never looked like a team that was panicking. Now the pressure shifts to NYR…let’s see how they respond.
Gravy
The pressure is always on the biggest stage, that was my point.
More shots and traffic needed for sure but the devils did have 112 points ..defense has been solid for Rangers
Both NJ GWG were scored by a D-man
Difference was PP which converted on road and came up empty at home. Debbie’s didn’t mark Kreider on the crease as much this game but Rangers were unable to go back to attempt tip in plays. If they convert some of the PPs, series over and Mika in middle makes no sense.
Derbils had a great road record this season and they showed why; completely different strategy; hanging back and picking off forecheckers to allow D to move puck.
The lack of in-game adjustments is the most puzzling but Igor has to stop that softy and just mark Hughes with 16 or Goodrow.
Just maintain Road Ice advantage…
Rich – your 12:00 post last night was spot on.
James – Your 10:47 today is also spot on. The leadership on this team talks a great game, spits out the same crap and then they go out and barely give an effort. Shameful and embarrassing for us fans, but apparently not for these so called team leaders. No reason to believe in this team.
If Panarin doesn’t figure out a way to light it up and carry this team to the next series, then Rangers should say good riddance. Do what Tampa did to McDonagh. Yes, Artemi, we know you have NMC, but you either agree to a trade where you have some control where you can go or we waive you and you can go play in Phoenix, Columbus, Chicago or to whoever else decides to pick you up on the waiver wire.
Rich, St Pete and others from prior thread, I started watching in 67-68 season. I did not get a chance to go to a game until 73-74. Was heartbroken when they lost to the Bruins and all other seasons that followed except 94. Had season tickets with some friends in late 80s to late 90s, so was in MSG when they finally won their one Cup in 80+ years. Didn’t get home until 7:00 the next morning. Sadly, I do believe that I will not see another Cup in my lifetime.
After 50+ years of continual disappointment, it’s hard to have any faith in this team. We all hope for the best, but expect to be disappointed. The curse of a long time Ranger fan.
James. . .you hit the nail square on the head.
But I would add to the disappointment we all feel the element of disgust. This is the playoffs….if you can’t get motivated for that then perhaps some of these guys are practicing the wrong profession.
Mika…DJ?
Panarin…pastry baker?
Trouba…jack hammer operator.
Are in-game adjustments difficult to make for a coach? Serious question.
C3
Good question.
Hopefully, someone can answer it.
I never coached so I have no idea… from my couch tho, doesn’t seem to be that hard. 🙂
MKH
difference between no trade and full no move. no trade can be put on waivers, no move can not, bread has the no move. mcdonagh at that point in his contract had no trade.
buyout for bread costs just about same as his contract for next 3 years
We are stuck with Krusty it’s why I have no hope for anything positive until he’s gone.
C3
I coached for a couple of years before I started Referring. I would think adjustments are made between periods. The game is so fast it must be difficult behind the bench. Concerning Gallant, I really don’t blame him, the players are responsible. If Gallant was coaching the pens during Crosby’s prime years he’d have a few cups already. I know some here will disagree but Panarin is the problem.
Bred in Mother Russia, but just a crumb over here. Still, I like the kid. (if they’re not yours, are 31 yr olds kids?
You move to a Greenwich mansion and they keep stuffing large bread in your jar, do you slowly start losing your street urchin grit?
If Panarin can’t produce in the playoffs, it’s like competing with an $11 million handicap.
Laffo-Busto may or may not become the player we would love to see, I still say he is to slow. But as long as Panarin is here he will be a 3rd line LW, with 20 to 30 seconds on the PP. Panarin is making 11 million to be a difference maker, exactly how is that working out game in game out?
Also McD had a price tag that was a market price. If they waived Panarin no one would pick him up at his cap hit. Trouba is a similar situation. They are above their market price with multiple years left. No one will take on those cap hits. They are here to the end.
ORF
You are correct they are here for the duration. So get used to disappointment.
Alex – Thank you, I didn’t realize you couldn’t be waived with NMC. I knew you couldn’t be traded or sent to minors, but I thought you could still be waived. That’s disappointing that Rangers are stuck with him for 3 more years.
St. Pete – Totally agree. Panarin’s soft east-west play, lack of compete, coupled with his contract killing the cap space, the Rangers will not win with him on the team.
Panarin, if not effective in the playoffs, essentially handicaps the team’s cap by his $11 million salary. It’s basically like going into every playoff series with a roster constructed with $11 million less cap space.
ORF – Good point, I suppose you are right. That’s very disappointing. Drury Should start the rebuild now, he is kidding himself if he thinks the window is still open with those guys here. Take it down completely and hope you do a better job in the draft then you did last time.
They literally cannot rebuild even if they wanted to. They can only trade Goodrow, Fox, Lindgren, and the kids.
Assdancers up 2-0.
At least the Azzlanders have pride in themselves and won’t go away quietly.
We are rebuilding why, exactly?
Because no team tied 2-2 has ever won a series.
AzzDancers 3-1 in 3rd period.
Get ready for game 6 in the Swamps of Elmont
lol Gravy
Ilb – Do you think this team, as currently constructed, with the cap situation, and Panarin continuing to disappear in the playoffs, is built to win a Stanley Cup in the next couple of years? If not, then you consider a rebuild. Personally, I don’t see this core winning a Stanley Cup, so I would rebuild for 4-5 years down the road. You keep Fox, Shesty, Miller, Lindgren. Those with NMC, NTC you get rid of as soon as you can. Devils have already jumped the Rangers and will probably be the division leader for the next few years, until they get in cap trouble. The problem was the Rangers did a hybrid rebuild and failed/had bad luck on their draft picks and did a poor job with cap management.
And to answer your next question, yes, I have a jaded view of this team and I am venting. Fifty plus years of disappointment can do that to you. Sorry, but it’s hard to believe in them, especially when they come out with the pathetic effort they showed the other night. Not to mention 2-0 to Tampa and going out 4 straight. I want to hope and believe, but like others here, we have learned to expect disappointment.
It’s hard to argue with you mkh.
ilb
I never said rebuild. I just said this team isn’t winning the cup as long as Panarin is here. He will have every opportunity to prove me wrong.
Actually Mkh is making logical sense. Rangers need to rebuild the right way as soon as this core is gone.
Lafreniere, Kakko, Chytil, and Miller don’t give me confidence in a bright blue future either. And Igor reminds me a lot like Hank. Great goalie, but can’t make the big save when needed most.
Ranger were down 3 to 1 and 2 to nothing last year against Pens and Canes and won…I think they can handle being tied with Derbils and win
bobbyo
They were up 2 zip against the bolts and wilted like old lettuce. If they were facing both teams #1 goalie they may not have gotten out of the 1st or 2nd rd. Nevertheless enjoy this year’s riden but it will end without the hardware.
Seasoned TB team very different than this NJD team. Nothing’s guaranteed of course, but they’re getting a lot of credit for only tying the series. If you’re a betting man, teams that were up 2-0 have gone on to win 80% of the time.
Hope I eat crow, but this feels like we’re about to be Tampa Bay Lightning’ed.
Isles get it done. On the road, and after a disheartening loss at home to put them down 3-1. (Oh, and the Hurricanes had more regular season points than the mighty Devils!)
Series returns to the swamp, with the Isles alive and kicking.
Let’s see if the Rangers can make like the Islanders and pull one out on the road after a disheartening loss.
When we draft a kid named Lego, we’ll know we are in re-building mode.
On paper, man for man, the devils are not superior to the Rangers overall.
Whatever happens, it’s on the Rangers to figure this out.
Unfortunately the rangers will never do a rebuild the right way. That is why they have 2 stanely cups in 83 years. I would like to see the rangers do a better job of drafting. That would be a start, this way they don’t have to always look into free agency.
Talking about the rangers core group. There soft physically and mentally.
I expect the same result in game 5. Nothing to see here.
After watching game 3 I had flash backs so I didn’t even watch game 4 because I did not want to get aggravated cause I had a gut feeling they were going to lose.
Admiral, it’s going to be tough watching the Isles and the Devils in the second round, ain’t it?
That’s probably not going to happen Scottsdale, but the fact it’s very much on the table at this late date is unsettling.
Again, it’s on the Rockstar Rangers to figure out the Derbils’ newfound defense and rookie goaltender.
If Devils played defense the first 2 games of series there number one goalie would still be in net
tommyG
That was a good call. History doesn’t repeat itself, it rhythms! Krusty and the DJ are no shows because they’re skilled set fits the regular season, not the playoffs. Obvious to anyone who has eyes to see.
you guys are hilarious…should we even bother watching the game tomorrow?
Too bad Steve Avery’s not around to torment big kid Schmid 🙂
Too bad Avery isn’t around to inject some balls into this team (yup, toxic masculinity. The Rangers could use some right now).
bobbyo
Yes I am hilarious and I will be watching and laughing.
Big-screen TVs have been provided for The Ledge for over a decade. Not much else to do out there.
This team isn’t worth the ledge.
Merrill, Lynch, Pierce and Fenner holding hands on edge of ledge. Just B4 jumping, Fenner sez ‘Hey, where’s Smith?’
Was Heath Ledger a Ranger fan?
Move KÁndre B4 he’s due big bucks. Sign back Staal and Smith for 750 each.
Ledge tickets for game 6 already on sale, heavy demand.
“Ah, might as well jump (jump)!
Might as well jump
Go ahead and jump (jump)!
Go ahead and jump.”
Coos, I’ve been watching senior citizen Marc Staal down here in Florida and…..please, don’t even joke about taking him back at any price.
Back to back losses and an extra day off not good for everyone’s health here.
Another reminder from my post from April 21st.
“For what it’s worth, the last time the Rangers took a 2 zip lead in the playoffs they proceeded to lose 4 straight.”
https://twitter.com/nihilistranger/status/1650893023356633089?s=20
Did they lose yet?
Trade em all!
I predict NYR win game #5 by the score 5-1.
Was watching Edmonton game. I think we traded for the wrong Kane. How much betted we we be with Evandef Kane?
Beezle
🤣
Practice this morning: Different look for PP1, with Panarin down low on the left, Mika high left, Kane low right. They also had a look where it was Panarin in the bumper, and Kane on the right. So they are mixing things up.
(According Pauly Donatone 1 hour ago)
Can’t wait to watch Petr Zibanedved, Michael Caine and East-West Artemi tomorrow…..
If a goal is scored on a phantom penalty call, is it a phantom goal?
Boston just got a free goal from the Boston refs.
Dolan gets at least 2 more playoff games as the Knicks move on. They had the killer instinct. Maybe the Rangwrs should have traded for Josh Hart at the deadline.
Guess Boston also isn’t winning the Cup since they didn’t win in 4 or 5.
Boston IS beatable. Mortals. Who would think…Cats did it – 4:3 in OT.
Boston just doesn’t have that killer instinct.
Knikc playoff series wins are like Haley’s Comet. They don’t come by that often so you really have to see it when you get a chance.
Scottsdale 9:25 post – I can’t think of many things more painful than having to watch Devils- Isles in the next round. I would have to root for Devils as I can’t ever bring myself to root for the Isles. I will still hope that the Rangers “veteran leaders” lead them to victory in this series. We will probably know by tomorrow, as 80% of teams that win game 5 in 2-2 series go on to win the series. LGR!!!

A lot of Dave Jackson in the ESPN story above. My apologies to anyone bothered by that.
Krusty: “One or two pucks go in, it’s going to be a different picture right now.”
Blog: Is it possible to exchange this picture you gave me for a nicer one?
Call me crazy, been called worse but my gut feeling tells me the rangers are done. Devils figured out a way to play the rangers the same way Tampa did to the rangers last year. It’s got the same look and feel.
Tommy it has that feel but they’ve pulled rabbits out of the hat a few times in the past just when that sentiment seeped into things.
Eventually one runs out of rabbits.
Colorado, Tampa and Boston are great but the Rangers suck
Beezle,
Lets hope they went to the pet store.
tommyG
It’s not necessarily that the dirt bag devils have figured out how to shut down the Rangers similar to what the bolts did. It’s that the Ranger core players are unable to overcome it. If the Rangers 3rd line was Kreider Vermont Goodrow and then fill in the blanks with lines 1, & 2, we might have something. Unfortunately there is nothing left but blanks and cap issues.
The blanks…….
Krusty, Mika, Kane, Busto, the Fragile Finn, & Chytil. A mixture of too soft, too slow, or over the hill. But anything could right? I mean the sun could ruse in the west.
Now that I’ve got all the negative rants out of my system, what did ya say we kick the crap out of these little devils tonight.
If 3 of our top 4 can score tonight;that would be wonderful. Wishful thinking for sure. Ya never know.
GG called his team out the other night with his comments. We will see if he gets the necessary response. The response we see and the results will tell an awful lot about the future of this team and/or GG. if they don’t respond, then it is crystal clear this core of “leaders” is not the answer moving forward. I truly am rooting for these veteran leaders to show the way and come out victorious at the end of the series!!!
That would be some trickery if the sun could ruse in the WEST.
i’d like to see some contributions from the bottom 6 in scoring
ChytilFinnBusto not much Gusto!
The coach is not the problem. All of us know what any team has to do in the playoffs; hit,get shots on net and crowd the net to get rebounds. The Rangers problem is there players dont do this. So they will fire the coach because of too many no move contracts. Too bad. Gg has done a pretty good job. Oh well. NFL draft to not get excited over.
moderation my ass
Game day, back in the U.S.S.A 🙂
Siouxper day for Hockey, and a Ranger win!!!
