Greetings from Winnipeg! I come bearing news of an interesting Rangers lineup. Julien Gauthier is not on the ice for warmups, but Libor Hajek is. Here’s what the lines looked like:

The fourth line didn’t even take a real line rush, was difficult to follow, but it looks like the Rangers are going with seven defensemen. We’ll ask coach Gerard Gallant postgame what happened with Gauthier.

As someone mentioned on an earlier post, Gauthier took a stick or skate to the face when Graves knocked Shesterkin over the other night. That may be why he’s out.
Hajek plays forward? Barron is in warm-ups, but sits? Didn’t have a great game against the Devils, but wow.
Another update from Mollie just now:
“ So here’s my immediate reaction upon watching those warmups: The Rangers appear to be going with 11 forwards and seven defenseman, the seventh D-man being Libor Hajek, instead of playing Morgan Barron. Something must’ve happened with Gauthier (COVID, personal matter, etc.), we’ll see if we find out later. Regardless, if Barron is healthy and available and the Rangers are opting to go with 11F/7D over him, that’s an eyebrow-raising choice. Evidently, the Rangers see something in Barron’s game that is keeping him out of the lineup.”

According to friedman ehlers is a guy who was really unhappy playing in Canada last year with the restrictions and brought up he’d liked to be moved. He’s been hurt for awhile just coming back.
It’s not cheveldayoff’s MO, but they could take advantage of the deadline and head into the summer with a much different outlook as opposed to heading into the summer trying to figure out where to begin and things looking real stale.

It is just strange. Scheifele, Wheeler, Connor, Ehlers, the Jets should be killing it. Been weird up there for years. Kane, Bufyglen, Trouba was going to leave. Maybe they get cabin fever up there in the Winter.

It’s been said people around the NHL seem to feel this really began when bufyglen left. Bufyglen was such an presence on and off the ice. That dude was like Charles Barkley 76s days on ice. He was such a unicorn and he gave them balls.
Wheeler was probably named captain bc big buff wouldn’t have wanted it. But big buff led that team.
Much like the deteriorating torts culture through the AV years. That’s what Winnipeg’s going through. at times the compete level and battle of yesterday comes out but not often enough

Rangers should be able to make a deal with these guys. Hajek would be an upgrade on their D. Copp would be an upgrade on our bottom 6.

Stastny is 36 YO. He is a UFA. So is Copp. If you can imagine…….the current Jets D playing tonight is costing them $25MM.
stasny-57% (only taken 175, but great career numbers ); Copp-53.6% (taken over 550). those concussions would give me pause offering too much for copp (or trying to resign him)

Not sure they could afford copp after the season nor would that be the plan if they acquired him but I think either would be an upgrade as the 3rd line centre this season.

I’ve always liked Lowry but he’s got quite some term left I believe.

If drury, not James but Chris, wants to do the work and spend additional assets there are reportedly 6-8 teams that are willing to absorb cap this deadline, so I guess guys with term might be possible.

Thé jets have had a lot of issues since big buff and Trouba left. There were a few reports out of Winnipeg that the Trouba deal and the handling of the buff injury created some issues for the players and it created a huge leadership void.
You guys are definitely right that something is “off” for them for a while now. Too much talent to be mediocre.

Must be nice for Trouba. Winnipeg plays without any heart or emotion. It did not used to be that way up there. Talk about underachievers. They only have $250k available to them under the cap and they have some big, long term contracts to pay. They also traded a lot of their draft picks. They need a shakeup for sure.

Igor’s numbers are better than Hank’s in his Vezina season. I was a bit of a skeptic, but, he’s the deal deal. Staying healthy is his only thing to worry about.
Guys : I will probably say this again tomorrow, but going from Henrik Lundqvist to Igor Shesterkin in goal for the Rangers is like going from Joe DiMaggio to Mickey Mantle in centerfield for the NY Yankees.

3rd period Goodrow took Lowry heavy into the boards and gave extra nudges to put him halfway into the rangers bench. Lowry thought about going after goody, but Reavo was there. Lowry sulked and went for a change.
Fox and Bread had some sublime passes to each other. Especially on PP. Like in a phone booth perfectly on stick through defenders.

Selma Hajek is a great skater and a solid defender. If he added some offensive rushes to his game he could turn heads.
Nemeth is doing ok since his return. But Hajek is mobile and looks hungry to improve and earn an NHL spot.
If they play Hajek more they could either raise his trade value or…and here’s a novel idea…. See if he has the goods to be our #6 defender.
Nemeth is fine to have this year but his several year contract at that price was one of Drurys worse moves so far. Can’t see keeping that contract when the cap crunch cometh next year

In the video that SN posted, it definitely looks like Gallant is giving Chytil a piece of his mind as they leave the ice. I’m curious to see how he’s used over the next couple of games.
Even when turk is talking nice he looks mean. The resting B face if you will. Hopefully just a moment in time of him getting a point across on a specific play.
That is called coaching. Whether Flip is listening or not is a whole other issue. Or more importantly will he absorb and apply the concepts being reinforced by GG.
This team has all their big money players pulling their weight, when that happens, usually good results.
Peg has some good forwards that need a change of scenery but the cupboard is pretty full here with very little cap space starting July 1
