Sounds like more people,(fans), are speculating about the possibility of trading for Pavelski at the deadline. Dallas would need to continue to struggle for them to trade him and his expiring $7 million contract.
Pavelski’s 37. FWIW, he and Goodrow were team-mates in SJ and then faced eachother in the 2020 Cup Finals. If we were going to get a pure rental, he’d be the guy I’d target.
I’ve always thought hertl was a brunch crowd wish, I don’t see the rangers re-signing him regardless of strome.
But if the rangers are in on him which Frank servalli specifically mentioned today in his hertl write up for top 20 draft candidates

According to cap friendly the rangers will have 31m dollars worth of cap space at the deadline.
Any cap they bring in before then will exponentially decrease that 31m cap space at the deadline
I see chytil as the centerpiece to hertl. From SJ’s standpoint swapping chytil right into the lineup with cost control and skilled wingers to play him with for hertl is better than a 1st.
SJ cannot rebuild. Their cap commitments mean getting out of them would mean it 7 years before they have enough pieces in the organization to rebuild. SJ needs to reload and hope karlsson has a unexpected resurgence and back end of his career

Don’t trade Robertson, cullye, or Othmann.

Hertl, Pavelski, and Smith are going to be pricey in terms of assets. They are purely rentals.
I would not give up good assets or a 1st round draft choice for rentals. I would only do that if the rangers were a legit favorite stanely cup contenders.

I was all for signing Ritchie in the off-season. He was pretty good in Boston, played some PP and scored a little. But not for $2.5M. I’m glad he decided to sign in Toronto

In the summer before we added a guy or two, I was fine with Ritchie. He’s good in the Kreider spot on the pp as well. I’d still take a flyer on him even with the additions but that 2.5 per for another year…..well, there are enough cap gymnastics that are already probably going to happen. He’s not the guy I’d acquire to make those worse.
