He’s so different then these american US development program and team canada kids.
He probably never did some of the skating drills in Finland that these kids are specializing in North America pre-draft. He dominated his age group bc of his size and combo of skills. It may take him a couple seasons to get to the point he’s able to play like that in the NHL. Not many bigger stronger power forward types pop right away in the NHL.
I’m betting the coaches didn’t realize how much slower the team is this year, at least compared to their first 2 opponents.

I know it is only three game but the compete level of a lot of our guys is unexceptable. Not going to sigle out the usual subject. It is something you are born with and can’t be taught. Was very impressed with Jack Hughes all around game. He will be a thorn in our side for a long time.
If the players we have do not want to do the hard work to win in the NHL;they have to be moved. The Johnson,Howden and Chytils of the world will not be here long. Starting to think the same way about the coach. Oh well;anotherseason of subpar hockey at the Garden.
There is zero chance Quinn takes his best friend Smith out of the lineup. It will be either Johnson or Miller. My bet is Miller. You will see,

This is his third season. In that time there has been zero evidence of them having any kind of system. It’s pond hockey. There is no structure to there game. They need a true NHL coach. Quinn is amature hour night after night. He has to go before its to late.
Lias left. Kravtsov left. Kakko being buried. Lafrenier position change. Gauthier buried. Chytil buried. Heck of a resume.
Quinn May not be perfect and may not be the General we tab to lead this team in the wheelhouse of what we hope are long hard playoff runs.
But I think for where we are at, in the development of the team, in the season, in the context of hockey just starting up again. I don’t know how much we see is an indictment on Quinn or just a simple where the team is at and the bounces of a given game and when they occur
i also don’t know how impressed to be with hughes just yet given how mediocre we looked. kid is also still ripe to get clobbered at some point
and if Mika goes down clearly Howden gets double shifted

I could also bring up the improvements buchnevich, deangelo, and Mika has shown since he’s been the coach.
Guys are getting better. You better believe there a structure to his system. He didn’t get hired and JD didn’t keep him around and they don’t have meetings and plan for this season and next seasons team without all being onboard with the structure the team is gonna play with.
So it’s more, either. Quinn CANT implement and consistently get them to play that system and structure, or that the players instinctly gravitate away from it depending on how a games starts unfolding. Or a it’s something in progress. The front office and Quinn and the coaching have their system and structure they think will enable them to defend and then counter to offense and manage a game. And they are in the Midst of trying to coach the players into doing consistently like muscle memory
So I missed the first goal and went back through all the goals. Georgie had the kind of night we all would have flamed Hank for in the last few years. If Georgie was sharper it’s a different game.
But again,
I also cringe at the idea of the fanbase riding this coach the way it is 3 games into this season with a young social media savvy team.
So I’m only gonna dish out the optimism
I don’t believe there is structure to his system. My eyes tell me there is none. DeAngelo is still being disciplined. Buchnevich is up, Buchnevich is down. Zibanejad is 27. If it walks like a duck, and talks like a duck, chances are it’s a duck.
It’s not 3 games. It’s his THIRD season!

And look, let me just put it this way. I get what your saying. Like I really get what your saying.
I’m just saying we had an awfully good run last season before the shutdown. This is our team, this is our coach. I’m caulking the first chunk of games of the season as something I’m watching/notes, but waiting to see and expecting to see some real growth in the fundamentals of how we play the game, approach the situations, does it slow down for everyone, players and coaches as we go.
I’m not here to watch pond hockey. I’m here to watch winning hockey with the fun coming from the details. And I know the difference between a coach who’s winging it and one who’s a steady in control never shocked maestro of his team and the game being played in front of him
Quinn is certainly not the latter at this point. But I don’t know if he’s the former either.
I don’t think he’s winging it out there. I think he’s been tasked with trying to get the youngest team in league Who’s yearly breaking in 2-3 new 19/20 year olds and trying to push the pace to get the arrival date. And I don’t know how much what we see and where we are at, is just where we’re at, actually alittle ahead of schedule, and waiting for these players to get their hours in so to speak and dial in their games.
And on the same token it’s that youngest team in the league we are questioning and wanting to see consistent structure from ala very veteran laden clubs.
And I just wonder if we were to talk to JD or gorts off the record, if they were to say, hey this is not on the coach. We are preaching everyday and we sit upstairs and watch the players just revert to junior or prior instincts and suddenly it’s 10-15 guys doing it at once and it looks like we’ve never practiced together before
The Pepe shift where he blocked two Subban bombs was vintage Captain Cally type shift.
There is a great highlight of Cally making that sacrifice that was circulated when he retired.
And they actually think it’s a positive and good sign, that they are able to play through and fight through, or go into an intermission and come out and play ‘like a different team’
That it’s actually a good sign at this stage that if the game gets away from these guys. That they do show the fight and the team dynamic has shown that it can get back in games and play a second half or 3rd period ‘like a different team’
the whole ‘Why were was this from the start’ they actually see as just the reality of where the team is at but a damn god sign that they get right the effort and the way of playing and get back into games and don’t give up or get blown out

3)Z misses the net…by a lot on a clearly wide open net.
Once again as well…they were not ready to play….don’t they yet understand you nap before the game…not in the first 2 minutes.
This is on Quinn….he better learn fast or he will have a lot of free time on his hands.
Very impressed with Lemieux’s effort in blocking those shots.
Also very impressed with JPP, trying to have a positive outlook after tonight’s game. Very tough to do.
