Playoffs Round #3!

Fight!

The battle for the Stanley Cup continues with matches for Prince of Wales Trophy and the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. I suppose both are suitable to drink out of in a pinch! Though there is that silly look but don’t touch superstition 🤷‍♂️

The SN announcers are expected to be Cutbert and Simpson for the Eastern and Singh and DeBrusk for the Western conference games.

    I thought it was going to be Anthony mantha? But why not both?

    🤔 The second-overall pick in 2019, Kaapo Kakko still hasn’t managed a 20-goal season and his career high in points is 44. Now, as the Kraken look for ways to improve their roster, Kakko is very much a trade candidate, already staring down the possibility of joining his third team at just 25 years old. Is there anyone willing to take a shot on him as a reclamation project with two years remaining on his contract with a $4.525 million AAV?

    No thanks on Marchment. He blocks/hits on same pace as LaCoast. Been on FLA, DAL, SEA and CBJ, did not play a full season until age 28 after finally becoming a regular at age 26. Yes, he’s tall but not ‘big’ at 212, if anything, he’s light for that height.

    If this is the direction Drury wants to go in his re-whatever, I’m sad. They’d be better off keeping Trocheck and moving him to wing.

    depends on price and term …Trocheck is getting traded

    Mantha will be an overpay. He had a career high in goals and assists at the age of 31. Maybe he did a Kreider but he is unlikely to repeat. Did he play on Sid’s line?
    He seems to be a ~50 point guy which they could do worse than. If the term is not too long there are worse ways for Drury to squander his cap space, but he is likely looking for a last contract. Make a reasonable offer but don’t get into a bidding war.

    the projected contract for mantha is 4×6.35M

    What do you think he’ll get in free agency? The expiring contract was 4.5 per.

    He was traded by Dallas -> Sea for a 3rd (2026) and 4th (2027)
    Sea -> CBJ for a 2nd (2027) and 4th (2026)

    Marchment’s short run in Seattle was average but useful. He scored 13 points in 29 games, adding size and edge to the middle six. His physical play stood out, even as discipline issues caused problems. (Athlon Sports) [his career 82 game average is 70 penalty minutes. Cuylle who is far more physical is at 57]

    Marchment could probably get $5-5.5 million with Columbus, but Pittsburgh, should they want him bad enough, could throw over $6 million at him (Hockey News)

    “It’s a disappointing ending for Marchment and the Stars,” Seravalli said. “I think he wasn’t nearly as impactful as they wanted him to be, and he kind of made himself the odd man out. For the Stars, it’s disappointing because this is a guy built for a team that needed to be harder to play against. You’re taking out one of the guys in your lineup that actually had that capability.

    I think their primary targets are Ferraro D and Tolvanen at wing

    After poking around a bit, I’d say if he were 25 I’d be willing to over pay a little but Marchment will be 31 on 18 June. Even if you say he’s just a place holder for a year or two, he’ll need to maintain at least the same pace/play to be movable later. Rather Drury focus on younger players with more upside potential.

    Mantha, 10 foot pole.

    A lot of what they may do is predicated on what the return is for Trochek, and possibly Schneider. Figure a 4th line center for sure. I think BobbyO is on the right track with Ferraro.

    The news about Claude Lemieux just keeps getting sadder. Prayers for his family. So damn tragic.
