The Rangers were eliminated from post season play with their loss to the Maple Leafs last night in Toronto, 4-3. Though the Rangers had an overwhelming advantage in shots on goal, 43-18 (shocking after just 10 officially the game before), many were not of the grade A or even A- variety. They got behind early too with some sloppy puck play and poor team defense.
Toronto’s McCabe (4) and Robertson (14) were the only scores of the first period at 05:15 and 12:08 and they would take a 3-0 lead at 05:41 of the second period when Joshua (10) put another past Shesterkin.
The Rangers would try to make it a game again, getting two back on the PP, first at 10:16 from Lafreniere (21), assisted by Miller (28) and Fox (33) and later at 10:18 from Zibanejad (31), assists to Lafreniere (28) and Fox (34). 3-2 after two and the Rangers had a shot to tie.
And didn’t do much with that chance, letting Tavares (26) increase Toronto’s lead to 4-2 at 11:57 of the third. Before the ink was dry on the score sheets, Zibanejad (32) would get his second of the night, this time Perreault (14) and Lafreniere (29) with the assists. Back to a one goal game with seven minutes left, including 6-4 for the last 20 seconds but Woll stopped anything the Rangers put on net. Final 4-3 TOR.
Game summary below:
