Rangers (e) 3, Leaves 4

Published by

The Rangers were eliminated from post season play with their loss to the Maple Leafs last night in Toronto, 4-3. Though the Rangers had an overwhelming advantage in shots on goal, 43-18 (shocking after just 10 officially the game before), many were not of the grade A or even A- variety. They got behind early too with some sloppy puck play and poor team defense.

Toronto’s McCabe (4) and Robertson (14) were the only scores of the first period at 05:15 and 12:08 and they would take a 3-0 lead at 05:41 of the second period when Joshua (10) put another past Shesterkin.

The Rangers would try to make it a game again, getting two back on the PP, first at 10:16 from Lafreniere (21), assisted by Miller (28) and Fox (33) and later at 10:18 from Zibanejad (31), assists to Lafreniere (28) and Fox (34). 3-2 after two and the Rangers had a shot to tie.

And didn’t do much with that chance, letting Tavares (26) increase Toronto’s lead to 4-2 at 11:57 of the third. Before the ink was dry on the score sheets, Zibanejad (32) would get his second of the night, this time Perreault (14) and Lafreniere (29) with the assists. Back to a one goal game with seven minutes left, including 6-4 for the last 20 seconds but Woll stopped anything the Rangers put on net. Final 4-3 TOR.

Game summary below:

The Rangers are back home for a tilt with draft order implications on Friday 27 March against the Chicago Blackhawks at 19:00 EDT. MSG and CHSN with the telecast.

Cuylle Laba Kartye, going forward. A really good 3rd line. Couldn’t care less if y’all agree or nor. Perreault is a definite keeper. He just needs to get in 80+ game shape. Faster and stronger.

Long time lurker would like to ask:
Does Dolan attend any of the Rangers games?
Or does he only care about the Knicks, who have done very well the last few years.
You would think he would have to be upset with one of his two marquee teams being at the bottom of the standings.
Has he made any public complaints about it?

shot attempts 79 to 40 after only getting 37 vs. Sens. Mika had 10 by himself.LAF has surpassed his assist total from 23-24. He had many more shot attempts in 23-24. He needs to shoot more.

Dolan has a prominent seat in the first row behind one of the baskets at Knicks games. That an indication of his level of interest.

Dolan chews purple crayons when not practicing his awful playing in his blues band, ‘JD and the nut shots’ not sure if the music is purposely blues or a description of how one feels upon listening to it.

Don’t look now Igor back into the top-5 in goals saved above expected per 60 for goalies with > 35 games this year.

Both Laffy and Kakko on 60 season point production pace (Kakko injury lowers games played). Kakko +12 on a middling team, +6 in losses over past 15 games which is impressive

Thomas Chabot of Senators has a broken arm thanks to slash by JT Miller. Nice to see player safety suspend this dirty player for a very serious injury. Chabot will be out for 2 months. What a piece of sh**.

Kakko was spoiled by the expectations after his play in the World Championship. If he was a mid first round pick everyone would have been more patient -including him- and he’d still be here. He’s a solid NHL player. Not a superstar.

Man. We don’t have any speed when thinking about what they could bring.

Rangers failed to fill that void with tossing away Kreider for nothing in return

The guy they trade CK for likely will not play an NHL game. His coach says his ceiling is a 4th line center.
Bad news is that Potulny lost out on the Minnesota coaching job. He’ll probably be back in Hartford next year.

I hated to see Kreider go. But they were not winning a cup with the core hanging on. Just reality. Now is the time to clean out the rest of them.

The hamhanded way in which Drury dismantled the team is the problem. He got pennies on the dollar in his trades and crushed the spirit of the team. He is like a turnaround specialist who blows up a company to save it. He needs to move on so someone else can build on what’s left behind.

2 conference finals outta 3 seasons means we were knocking on the door. Roster needed tweaks not an overhaul

Now we are in a quagmire

That roster with a peice or two at a deadline with a healthy Shesty could have won a cup.

Especially with Florida licking their wounds now

  40. corporal clegg Avatar

We don’t know for sure Bobby.

But there is no use trying to convince each otherwise. I think they had a chance. Which is more than the zero chance your statement implies.

Like mcdavid has “chances” each year. But his team has fallen short. Doesn’t mean he isn’t winning a cup. But odds are always on the side of “not winning” so the pessimism will be correct many more times than optimism.

Right now. With this team as constructed there is near zero chance.

But the team with Kreider Trouba bread Mika Trocheck Shesty Fox Schneider had more than zero chance. Especially getting to the final four. It just didn’t happen. And Florida was a machine that couldn’t be stopped. Until they ran out of gas and had injuries.

Florida loses Barkov, all the other supposed tough guys are back except wanna be tough Tkascmuck for half the season but no Barkov. Result, out of playoffs. They have the best 2way player in the game and some nice complementary pieces. Did Fla tough guys not care or maybe it’s not about being a supposed tough guy but having the best player.. how’s the psycho coach doing? Forgot how to coach or not as good without their star player. Ragging the puck refers to a tactic in ice hockey where a player retains possession of the puck by skillful skating and stickhandling without attempting to score, often to use up time. It can also mean stalling or killing time in a broader context.

Do any of you remember when Rangers penalty Killers in the 70’s would rag the puck back and forth playing keep away and not letting the other team have any time in there d zone. Bill Fairburn, Walt Tkacuk, Dave Balon and Steve Vickers were masters of this. Too bad we don’t see anything like it today. I guess you have to be good and disciplined to work this kind of magic.

Always pay attention to the year junior players put up big numbers. Greentree put up big numbers in both 17/18 year old season, and his 18/19 year old seasons. Aspinall is putting up numbers in his 19/20 year old season. Aspinall may be a late bloomer, but history says the season he’s having, at the age he’s having it, will not be meaningful.

The only thing that matters with Ranger prospects is where and if they will fit in the bottom 6 or 3rd pair D. There are no elite prospects in the cotton candy clown show organization. That doesn’t mean they won’t end up being good additions to the teams overall mediocrity moving forward.
