The Rangers Win! The Rangers Win!
The Ranger win streak is at one! Earlier today, they manhandled a depleted Flyer’s squad who had been on their own spiral by 6-3. Yes, the first game ATL (After The Letter) was a resounding victory and included a number of notable events.
The complete scoring is in the summary below. The game’s number one star, Zibanejad, continued his strong season by scoring his 9th hat trick as a NYR. He is now tied with Bill Cook for most ever by a NYR. Three of his hat tricks have come against the Flyers, his favorite team to score on (23 goals). In addition, as one of goals on the PP, he has taken over first place on the NYR career PP list with 117 goals, passing Chris Kreider and Camille Henry at 116. Zibanejad also leads the league in goals (9) and points (16) since January 2nd.
Other items of note: Coach Sullivan recorded his 500th win as a coach and is now number 30 on the all time NHL list. Panarin, who had two goals, also recorded his 400th assist as a NYR. And Othmann finally scored his first NHL goal in his 34th game. Like most of the Rangers today, he seemed to finally exhale.
Game summary below:

The Rangers continue their road trip with a swing through the west coast for games against ANA, LAK and SJS. Next up, ANA on 19 January at 22:00 EST (bring your blanket and pillow), telecast by MSG, Victory+ and KCOP-13.

First
The next three games are against teams with point total vlose to theirs. The results will impact draft position. Also someone has to stay up to watch them. Maybe we should draw straws.
2017 draft
Lias Anderson 7th pick
Owen tippet 10th
Necas 12th
Suzuki 13th
Yikes!!!!😱
Mika’s on pace to pot 35+ on a tire fire of a team. Any GM would trade his left nut for a guy who plays all 3 roles, ES, PP, PK and has position flexibility (C/F).
Obviously it’s all up to him on when and where but his value has skyrocketed after last season.

Thanks for the recap. Our mediocre goalie beat their mediocre goalies.
For the record I will not be staying up to watch the west coast games.
Just your daily reminder that we succccccckkkkkkkkkk!
ORF – ANA, LAK and SJS are all better teams. All have winning records in the Western conf and only LAK are under water against the East. LAK also with an amazing number of Bettman points (13!).
However, like all young teams they take too many penalties, especially ANA and LAK. The flip side though is, being fast, they get a lot of PP’s too – SJS with 162 (vs 147 they give up). Consider the NYR have had 119 PPO and 139 PPOA in two more games!
Who is this “we” of which you speak?
Looking at the PP stats – there are not too many teams with a worse differential than the NYR and only one team has fewer PPO (Toronto, one less with one game in hand). But geez these are crazy:
BOS 143 PPO 180 PPOA
FLA 173 PPO leads league with 47 GP against 160 PPOA
MIN 161 PPO only 120 PPOA, net +41
VGK 139 PPO and 108 PPOA, fewest in league with 47 GP
SN – Mika is also 51.7% at the dot but then again, all five of the top takers on the Rangers are over 50%
Mika 51.7 Tro 55.6 JT 60.9 Laba 52.0 Carrick 53.7
The next two, Cuylle and Brodude are much smaller sample but 55% each.
Just watched it on the DVR. We were foolishly out slip sliding on the snow during the game yesterday. The first 2 periods were a flashback to two years ago. They score off the rush and on the PP. The defensive structure wasn’t great, but Martin made some saves and the Flyer goalies didn’t. The third was this year’s team. They were back on their heels and beaten to the puck by the Flyers. They hung on for a win.
Gavrikov’s game has dropped off. Are the PP minutes too much for him?
Rangers proving FO% is not that important.
Winning faceoffs really help only if you know what to do with the puck
SN don’t get in trouble Drury will have to trade a first rounder to move Meeka
Jbytes,
Didn’t you know we’re a part of the organ-eye-zation?
You trade one of Zibanejad, and Trocheck. Best value decides. Personally, I’d keep Mika. He’s a much better player than Trocheck. It’s really not close.
Can’t trade all the centers …unless you are getting some back …Meeka has been solid but you still need to consider moving him to get younger and faster
I think the goal for Drury should be, aside from younger/faster, is trade for RWs. Currently the only true RW is Raddysh.
Regarding drafting of forwards Drury and scouts only went off the lw list
Lamb, at Minnesota, is a RW. I’m not convinced he signs, and I’m not convinced he’s a true prospect. I watch him as often as I can, and he may be bored on a bad Minnesota team, but something is lacking. Big, fast skilled, and a great shot. He has all of that, but you are left wondering when watching him, is that all there is?
You only trade Mika if he agrees to it. He having fun now and his wife love NY. It’s a great place to be rich. They aren’t going to Buffalo.
Job 1 has to be to finding a landing spot for Bread so he doesn’t walk for nothing. If he doesn’t move the expiring contracts the retool becomes an immediate failure. Those are Panarin and Soucy. Deadline deals are for picks and prospects. Teams that are buying generally don’t move roster players since they are trying to add to their teams for the playoffs.
Bread’s comments yesterday sound like Drury isn’t off to a good start.
He seems to want to make hockey trades which should wait until the draft or Summer when more players will be available from more teams. These require more skill and I have little faith in Drury executing them well.
Need to find the prospect who is being blocked from getting TOI or a young roster player (3rd line forward) who is similarly blocked by contracts or performance in too 6; sort of the way they landed Mika originally.
He should also find out what the market is for Trocheck. Teams needing Center for the playoffs may overpay vs. what he will garner in the Summer.
BTW, I think The Letter 2.0 was PR BS to placate Jimmy D and maybe the Fire Drury chants. It may work for the fist but not the second. Once the crowd has a whipping boy they don’t let go.
SN- I agree and that’s what I little faith in CD & Co. doing. The Mika trade was made in the offseason-not at the deadline. I don’t think Drury can identify available players of that caliber. Sammy Blais certainly wasn’t. I don’t see a track record.
Lamb is rumored to be waiting until August to sign with the Wild. Their season will end in the Big 10 Tournament unless they win in. If he doesn’t sign right after that maybe Drury can get a late round pick from the Wild to let him sign with them sooner.
You ask Bread to go to Detroit first .,they have the picks and prospects …Kane is there and maybe he says yes. If not Hurricanes have best prospects out of playoff teams
NY is a great place to be taxed…and robbed
Carey said “He has all of that, but you are left wondering when watching him, is that all there is?”
I think you hit the problem with much of the NYR drafting. They fail to consider psychological factors and intangibles. You either have drive or you don’t. You are either willing to take a hit to make a play or you aren’t. Work ethic. Etc. An organization may think they can “train” that into prospects but that is a fools errand. Talent alone can only go so far when most others have talent too.
I am convinced this organization has no idea how to re-anything successfully. Of course only time will tell. But for me at 26 time is getting shorter.
If bread refuse any trade to a real playoff team and rather walk to free agency in last place, every GM should immediately have serious reservations about his real desire to compete for a Cup. no pro athlete worth a squat ought to be unwilling temporarily relocate a few months for the chance to win a championship.
This year different league wide
Playoff cap now for 20 players dressed each game
So unless a team has a high priced guy whose hurt for playoffs, or a redden like stiff they’d love to sit, a high priced rental may not be as desirable as in the past.
So the buyer might want to shed salary in a deal. Rangers eating half a contract would seem to be necessary to get better value
Messier 65 today
Agree that the organization has a talent development problem. Laba is an outlier — hope they don’t ruin him.
It’s the age old balance of competence and confidence; aptitude and attitude; skill and will.
Tanner Glass is teaching them everything he knows…
Yea, there’s the deadline deals (Bread, Soucy, maybe Tro) and the offseason deals (Tro, Meeka)
Mika isn’t going away over the Summer.
Bread’s going to do what he’s going to do. If he puts up 80 or 90 points he’ll have lots of interest on 7/1.
Phil goyette passed at 92
Was on cup final team in 1972
Won 4 cups w mtl 1957-60
Bread may be looking for 5X10 and someone may do it.
I lived near a butcher some of the Rangers used to shop at and remember seeing Phil Goyette go there when I was in high school. He wore horn rimmed glasses and looked kind of nerdy off the ice. They always stopped to talk us with us outside the store.
Don’t think the Wild has the assets the Rangers needs. But Drury rarely wins in transactions.
Vegas gets another one
https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/47654640/golden-knights-acquire-rasmus-andersson-flames
Great get for Vegas, for sure.
ORF yes in that neighborhood. the projection is 4×10.25M
Drury gets anchovies for mushrooms.
I saw online a poll the level of confidence ranger fans have in the rangers future from 1-10 and one that said no confidence. Of course at 90% was no confidence. You can put me down m the no confidence group. If you can’t draft and develop nothing else matters.
They can’t compete by just trading for mid level prospects. These guys are going to have a ceing of middle six forwards and second pair Ds. They need to collect picks and hit on a few of them. Otherwise they will stay in the muddled middle. The team may become watchable, but won’t be a serious contender.
Bumped it n to the person that sometimes shares information on the Rangers. Didn’t have a lot, but what he gave I’ll share.
The Rangers have set a very high price on Trochek. My interpretation of what he said is, the Rangers don’t really want to trade Trochek. The fan made rumor of the Wild, with Yurov, Stramel, etc, wouldn’t be enough. I kind of like the idea of Yurov. Said a lot of interest in Panarin. Did not name teams, or price. Just a lot of interest. Schneider, and Lafrenière were not discussed during the very brief conversation. So I got nothing on them.
In case you missed it: Anton Blidh has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Yurov is a solid and young and playing center now on Wilds first line ..Stramel is. 6’3 center first rounder
I know who they are BobbyO.
I like Yurov because he’s a RW. Stramel is someone I’ve seen a lot this year because I watch a lot of Barnhill. Like him too, but you better be sure you can sign him. He’s a senior, and could go UFA.
Have not seen Stramel …but Yurov looks like a player…not sure they are mid level prospects
I’m an old Ranger fan and it is possible I may never see them raise another cup. More than anything else at the twilight time in my journey I just want to see a team that competes and is really fun to watch. If they win the cup icing on the cake.
Sam saw this coming and planned his retirement accordingly
Can we see Trochek numbers and Laughy’s stats with and away from Bread because without is the future…
Did Dreary leave for Italy yet? Rumors of him in Milan sampling pizza.
St.Pete….I’m right there with you, sadly.
Don’t you have to go to Naples for good pizza. I agree with the Minx. I just want them to play hard and be fun to watch. A cup run may be too much to ask for.
You half full glass guys, put some vodka in the other half
Weird that Drury and Guerin both with USA and will be in Italy …will they make trade before ?
So they don’t want to trade Trocheck who is the easiest to move. Nto a good start to the retool.
Hurry up and Wait!
Drury is retooling the menu with a pizza milanese
Sherwood to San Jose for 2 seconds
Martin in net
Quick in net tomorrow vs kings
Jamesgeau
cole clayton as part of deal
25 yo defenseman who hasnt sniffed the NHL.
Glad we didnt give up 2 seconds
I like sherwood, but he will be 31 in march.
Probably not the age our window is in need of? idk
soucy definitely nursing a foot
was a wicked shot he blocked
gonna be a crazy year. lots of teams ready to be sellers. they are going to try to beat drury to the punch.
the cap rule change will be interesting to see what effect it has on the market
Beating Drury to the punch is not complicated. More often than not he beats himself to the punch.
More often still, Drury punches himself
SJS already a young team, trade works for them. It would not have been a good trade for NYR, at least not given where the direction is said to be.
Just as a reminder, get a nap in before the late puck drop. Go-time ready to fly just before 22:00 EST
My latest info from my 2 Canadian friends and I had a funny feeling on this that JT might be the bad apple and as captain he’s destroying the team. Kreider leaves after being the voice in the clubhouse rightfully so after stupid Drury makes the trade public & leaves the Rangers. JT has had an out with another teammate and wants to leave Vancouver. So we lose the baggage of Kreider and suffer the baggage of JT. Maybe JT isn’t captain material. Poor Sullivan is between a rock and a hard place.
no nap plans, grabbing an early dinner and expect this one to be over after the first period!
Impossible Lone Ranger, Drury is a winner and knows winners and Dolan is a winner and knows winners who know winners
Where’s EV?
Better video… Bob got beat lol
