The Rangers begin a mountain west road trip tonight with a Tilt in Sin City against the Vegas Golden ShowKnights. The Rangers have been great on the road so far this season but the quality of the competition is a bit stiffer on this trip than the previous. However, they catch Vegas at a good time: 3-3-4 in their last 10, only one win in their last six (STL). The Rangers by comparison come in 7-3-0, having dropped the home game to DET on Sunday night.
Shesterkin (7-6-2, 2.39 GAA, 0.913 SV%) will be in net tonight against Akira Schmid (7-1-2, 2.50 GAA, 0.900 SV%) who has been caring the load so far this season for VGK. The only question on the NYR lineup tonight is on defense – Borgen has been nursing an UBI and though both he and Vaakanainen took part in the morning skate, it would not be surprising if Sullivan stuck with Robertson/Morrow for another game. As to Vegas, a few of their name players are out: William Karlsson (lower body), Jeremy Lauzon (undisclosed), Mark Stone (upper body). Former NYR Howden is in at 3C tonight and Vegas will only be icing 18 skaters. Injuries seem rampant in the NHL at the moment!
Keys to a Ranger victory: Don’t try to play pond hockey with these guys!
On this date in history: In 1953, Andy Bathgate potted his first NHL goal, contributing to the NYR 3-1 victory over CHI.
