The NY Rangers, 1st in the Metro division, host the Capitals at MSG tonight. The last meetup between the two teams saw Washington, and Robocop brother Charlie, spank the Rangers 4-0. Kuemper in goal for the Caps so any brotherly retribution will need to wait until after the game (or they chase Kuemper).
The Rangers are coming off another “not as strong as you would like” OT win against the Sabres last Saturday night, 4-3. Kreider noted in the post-game that the team needs to start putting together full 60 minute games and not rely upon “resilience” to bail them out. Tonight would be a good time to start! Shesterkin is expected in net.
The Capitals, who refuse to go into full rebuild mode no matter how many times we predict it, lost 2-1 (SO) on Saturday to Tampa Bay. As we saw a few weeks ago, they are not a pushover and rank #10 by points %. However, they seem to require extra time to bank those points.
Filip Chytil (upper body) and Kaapo Kakko (lower body) are the only reported NYR injuries. Washington lists Max Pacioretty (Achilles), Sonny Milano (upper body). T.J. Oshie (lower body).
On this date in history: In 1962, NYR legend Andy Bathgate had a goal and four assists as the Rangers beat the Bruins 9-3. The game was delayed nearly 20 minutes in the third period for stitches to Bruins goaltender Johnston after he took a puck to the nose. Tough guys didn’t wear masks back then 😁
Also on this date against the Bruins, but in 1992, Kovalev recorded his first career hat trick in a game in which the Rangers trailed 5-2 with 7 minutes to play. Alexei’s third goal was the 6-5 GWG for the NYR.

Hope Trouba injury not to serious. Keep Scheider and Miller together. Couple of nice saves by our goalie. On to Fla. For two important games.
I’m OK with Shesty not getting shutouts if he is going to keep the other team to 1 goal. He is starting to look a lot more like the Igor we love. Rangers did their best to build his confidence at the end by giving away multiple grade A chances and letting him come up with some big saves.
Still the Jekyll and Hyde team. I have no idea which one will show up on Friday. I’m guessing Shesty plays against the cats and Quick against the bolts.

I love Lafrenchie’s reaction on the final goal, just acknowledging his teammates’ work no big celebration on the fifth goal late in a 5-1 game; meanwhile Bread leaping through the air like he just clinched the ECF winner 🤣 🤣 really enjoy them as a pair

Wilson on Trouba was nothing intentional. He was driving to net and Trouba reaching in got clipped.
I don’t like Wilson but he was just trying to get a shot on goal.
