Good morning, boneheads!
It’s unfortunate that since Carp’s retirement there isn’t much around to read about the Rangers in general, and especially game reviews. And whatever is there, isn’t of high quality. I found Vince M’s work to be a bit better than others, but his work requires subscription. I’m not sure yet it’s worth it, plus I’m not giving LoHud a penny after their treatment of Carp.
The only article worth reading this morning, imo, is Larry’s. But even then, looks like he was inspired by our recent conversation about concentrating on improving defense instead of other areas first. 🙂

If I were Drury I’d be gently telling Reaves to not renew his lease in Greenwich and/or maybe start looking for a Pied-à-terre in Hartford staring in September. He has been a good presence on the team, but can’t see the value of having him on the cap for next year
Pete,
100%.
Watching him struggle to get up and down the ice is painful.
It was fun while it lasted, but it’s fairly obvious his legs are toast.
yup and can’t blame him all for not fighting at all. no reason to jeopardize his longterm health out there, but also no reason to allocate $1.75m of the cap to him next year either
I concur on Reaves. He seems to have trouble keeping up. That could change as things get bogged down and the obstruction increases coming down to the end of the season. As for Zegras, the kid is worth the price of admission. He is creative and cocky. Fun to watch. The 3rd line was better last night than usual. When the Rangers start throwing the puck around, they can be entertaining. Problem is they forget to get the puck and bodies to the net.
ILB: This is my #1 source for NYR. Thanks for your efforts & keep up the good work!

T-5 days until deadline…
When Mika doesn’t show up 5v5, that line is not effective. 3 weak efforts in a row, can’t afford that tomorrow night.
Reaves is the oldest guy on the team…Honestly he’s played more games than I expected but thats probably related to overall injury situation. GG will probably spot him and give him more rest down the stretch like he has done with other teams
Rackell was invisible last night
Contois had a nice try out. Get em.
I agree with Comtois. Never heard of him, but was impressed. Very noticeable.
I wonder if Reaves ever recovered fully from the PK Slewfoot incident. He barely kept up earlier in the season. He is really struggling now. Do they buy him out or send him to Hartford next season?
Johnny B is better than many of the bottom six guys they have run through in the last few years. Do they keep him when Rooney comes back?
Has anyone seen Ty Ronning play? His scoring has picked up in Hartford. Is he worth taking a look at for a game or two. He is likely to walk after this season.
Still see D men shy away or make a quick pass when Reaves is bearing down on them. Needs to be a team mentality to disrupt breakouts and force giveaways.
Would need to see more from Bro, but can play him over Kegger and probably Goat. I wouldn’t play him over Rooney who is an adequate 4C.
I was at the game last night. First one at the garden since Messier night. Watching Brodzinki, he was all over the place, and I don’t mean that in a good way. No discipline to his game. Kept showing up in places he didn’t belong, and was often not where he should be. But that was a heck of a snipe.
Some folks go stale on Bread because he doesn’t score enough but he had a helluva game last night. His ability to maintain puck control and create scorings opps at even strength is elite level play.
How do we get this Combtwah Dude?
Reavo’s no doubt lost a step, but he is still our most energetic banger.
We have some extra baggage here who are unlikely contributors to a Cup run. Question is, are they being showcased since we’re in the position to do so, or have we nothing better anywhere in the system?
Hochul’s mouthpiece says Garden fans don’t like women! Strange. Almost all of them gladly and willingly married one.
Coos,
The answer is, nothing better in the system. Their top forward prospects are in junior.
Hochul mouthpiece probably didn’t see or hear the huge ovation the two women from the USA hockey team got.
The MSG crowd is probably not representative of the electorate. Hochul will do ok in November. Now back to hockey. LGR!
Lol…
Chytil has been a bit better recently, even if the team has not overall. Always hard to gauge if it’s a temporary spurt or him figuring out a few things. Still not seeing him as a long term C.
Gravy,
Noticed that last night about Chytil. He was very active. Like you said, we have seen spurts from him before. We will see how long this lasts.
On his first shift, Chytil did not see on open Ranger. I said to my son, Chytil does not see the ice. He saw it well enough on his next shift with that pass to Brodsinzki.
Despite Kreider and Zibanejad scoring goals in the game, I thought that line was pretty stale last night. By far the Strome, Panarin, Hunt line was the best line. Hunt has very little O skill, but man was he a beast on the boards.
I like Marco sturm that was a good trade by Colorado
Listening to GG gush, Chytil ain’t going nowhere. Wonder if he and the GM have an ongoing pizza connection or if Calzone Boy keeps his own company.
Uncle Larry “We have, though, been told by an individual familiar with the Rangers’ approach that the GM is loathe to use a blue-chip asset in exchange for a rental such as the Ducks’ Rickard Rakell, the 28-year-old who was Zibanejad’s linemate with Team Sweden in the 2018 World Championships”
Not a scoop that Drury would be ‘loathe’ to abandon a blue-chip asset.
If blue chip asset is Othmann or Wild Will yes; if Jones or Nils; meh. Just do not want to limit potential assets necessary to acquire center; which should be priority #1 for now and the future.
Question is, who does Drury consider a blue chip prospect?
BDL – both goals were on extra man; the line will not generate much if Meeka takes the night off and doesn’t commit to 200 ft on the ice like he has been doing the last 3 games.
That’s a ridiculous comment without including names
Meeka clearly the driver on that line
Bdl
Hunt’s belongs on the 4th line where his beastiness (is that a word?) is needed most.
The reason for line 1 being stale is Lafreniere. I still say he belongs on the left side on line 3. But I guess we will see if he can progressive on the right side. Just my opinion.
Eli,
I watched Lafrenier closely last night. I find it interesting that his role on that line is the board man. He was always the first guy in to forecheck. The problem with that line is, Lafrenier is first in, but more often than not, there is no second man in. When Kreider asserts himself on the boards, that line looks different, but he hasn’t been doing that as much.
I also watched Schneider closely. He had those 3 plays that were not good. The breakaway is his fault because when you are the last man, you cannot allow someone behind you. But that play happened because of the forward making a poor read. Don’t remember who it was. Schneider is a really smart player. He reads plays in the Dzone, probably better that the other 5 guys. His first pass is very underrated, and his board play is exceptional.
Bdl
I agree with that, but he is losing most of those board battles. And it may because he is not getting the support soon enough as you said. I would definitely like to see him shooting more a lot more.
Where’s the Beef!!!!!!!!!!
Careful Bdl, you can’t say things about Kreider…there will be butt hurt defencive posts or post blaming everyone but Kreider lol.
You are correct though, enigma is enigma, not nearly physical like he should be and it creates one of the top 6 forward issues that potentially needs to be addressed because of that inconsistency.

We need a huge mobile and nasty Canuck DMan named Beef Bourguignon on the menu.
Although Kreider has always been an enigma the truth is he has never been the same physically since his blood clot and rib resection.
Was going to make the same comment about Hunt as Eli. He gets a lot of heat because he is playing out of place and not scoring, but he’s at least the 4th option on that line if they were fully healthy.
He’s grown in my eyes since that horror.
Meeka’s line quickly look to go low to high and get it back to the D. Would prefer the forwards establish puck control down low, force more D support prior to getting it back up top to D. They had a stretch where they were committed to doing that, but not so much of recent.
.
Where they have fallen down in the past 3 games is neutral zone coverage (really all of NYR forwards) giving the puck carrier a lot of leeway and backing off. Frustrating to watch them turn and chase without picking off rushing forwards.
St Pete
It’s been since the price incident to me…before that he was impressive and antagonistic to their teams…was physically overt “hard” to play against. He became a much kinder and more gentle guy to play against after that. Certainly is capable of having moments of pre price overtness but mostly just leaves you wanting more to your point.
And agree with your point, even more so after the clot which would have been a terrible experience for anyone.
Wicky
So let’s agree it was a combination of both.
After last night’s game I really like this Comb-twah guy.
St Pete
100%
In addition to Schneider’s misplay on that breakaway, Nemeth needs to not get his shots blocked near the blue line, which started that play. He failed so often to the the puck through last night that it was driving me crazy. Dump it into the corner instead.
Schneider got toasted a few times last night…thank god it wasnt K’Andre !
bobbyo
Yes he did but he is a rookie and rookies will get toasted. I don’t think we will be seeing him as a starter in the playoffs. But I guess that depends what the team looks like after the deadline.
Fran Vatrano a Ranger. 4 th rounder going the other way.
Frank Vatrano a Ranger. 4 th rounder going the other way.
That’s a pretty good trade, no?
I think so. Upgrade over a bunch of guys.
Let’s hope that’s not the best Drury can do. If it is we are in trouble. 34% career on face-offs just what we need.
Is Florida clearing $$$$ for something perhaps?
Hope this is just the beginning…ha
Good depth piece. But not a right wing🤷🏻♂️
He’s a great depth piece that we pretty much got for free
Pete all defensemen get toasted once in a while.. ..all our young D will be fine and Schneider is gonna play .
Vatrano has been playing wing but I think also a center…decent depth option either way for a good price…good use of cap space by Drury
Not much center that I know of
He did score the game tying and game winning goals last night though
Like this move. Bottom 6 forward who can score some goals.
Ev-Does he kill penalties?
Ok I changed my mind we didn’t get him to play center.
And so it begins!
Positive start for Chris Drury. 5 days to the deadline. Let’s see what else happens.
plus he has more goals than everyone else who has played in bottom 6 other than Goody
I made a NEW POST
Florida was trying to clear cap space by trading Vatrano, as they are expected to sign Giroux after he plays his 1000 game with Flyers.
