Good morning, boneheads!
That game wasn’t only on Georgiev. Too many bystanders, both forwards and D-men, who decided that exerting themselves too much against a team desperate for points wasn’t worth it. It’s hard to blame them, it’s not possible to maintain same high level of play and concentration throughout the entire season, especially when you are all but officially in.
But Georgiev didn’t help himself at all. He didn’t help Drury either. Nobody would trade for him to make him their number one, or even their back up at the moment. He is as good as gone after this season, and probably for peanuts, if anything at all.

Hank told the sad truth about K’Andre last night. He’s the ONLY one who has the stones to do so.
Foxy and Lindgren being beaten down, just as I predicted. They’ll both need some healing RandR before Playoffs.
What did Hank say of K’Andre last night?
Adm – he pointed out that he wanders in his own end and must learn effective positioning.
Do my eyes deceive me? They appear to deliver these lackluster performances in front of Georgiev more often than not.
He thinks he should be a #1, lol. As of now, he’d have a hard time even to find a backup job in this League.
Back up the truck. Back it up!
two seasons of Georgie’s flat/uninspired performances as he sulks but at least we didnt have to deal with Deangelo’s twitter feed
2 seasons? This is who he has been. Don’t spin it into being butt hurt over Tony D (Schneider will be 2x the Dman btw)
Georgiev has never done well after long layoffs and he’s laid an egg when they’ve tried to use him for >5 consecutive starts or so.
He’s a middle of the road performer. Not a good fit for what they need with Shesterkin.
Not really sure why the Rangers can’t hang with Minnesota. They’re not that good. If there’s a confidence issue or a lack of compete when Georgiev is in net then that’s a whole other problem.
James he’s been whining about his role and playing time for 2 years jughead waited too long to move him. Minnesota isnt good? They are plenty deep ..just looking at their 3rd line versus Rangers is all you need to see
Georgiev is an easy guy to dislike. Last night, he shows stones to come out for the interview but then says he is not playing enough. Same thing he has done for all the time he has been here. To me, he seems as he feels he is entitled to the net even though he gives up 5 every time he plays. His body language is poor. No idea how he thinks he will ever earn himself a starting spot with this level of play. Perhaps after the Rangers let him walk, he will sign a $900K contract somewhere and make a comeback.
I actually think, despite their recent slump, Minnesota’s a pretty good team. Rangers effort was weak and it was a far more important game for the Wild. I expect Guerin to be aggressive at the deadline.
GG is no dummy. He’s rolling Georgiev out for these trap games, (protecting Shestyerkin), but i don’t feel sorry for Georgiev. If he wants to prove he can play in this league, he’s got to make the most of his chances.
They can certainly afford to play him more going forward, but if you’re Gallant, how do you start a goaltender whose records is 0-5 over the last 5 games? At this point it isn’t necessary about his trade value anymore, but it should be about Shesterkin’s backup.
Hey Drury did you see your back up last night who you gave $2.5 mil to lose games suck again?
Did drury give him his current deal?
Hank didn’t say anything new or earth shattering about Kam last night, it’s the same thing that has been said about kam around here for a long time.
The foligno line last night reminded me of the impact the clutterbuck line used to have on the rangers until this year.
Jamesgeau
What’s that beeping sound? Oh, the truck backing up…
KAM get nothing but praise from SalmonJoe and everyone else connected with Ranger Management. Hank’s astute assessment is the first contradiction to that pie in the sky stuff I have heard over and over.
NYR are 1 player short of tough enough – Sammy Blais.
If they can trade Georgiev, go ahead. Even if they can’t, they should trade for a backup.
Wicky
Was it the Hedgehog?
Bdl
That’s a good call
Georgie’s silent and unspirited body language when not playing speaks volumes.
Lol…Sam and joe. I amazed at how many people still listen to them here instead of the other feed.
Anyone who works for Dolan toes his line or goes on unemployment.
When Boy George came up with the Rangers he displayed all the tools of a good goalie and he played well. He seemed to understand he was Hanks backup and when was gone he would be top dog. But noooo because here comes Shesty and blows that theory out of the water. And for Boy George that is unacceptable and thus he has wedged his head in a dark and remote feculant place and now can’t stop a beachball. He has become valueless to the Rangers and any potential trading partner. We could not trade him for even that putrid muppet in Phily named Gritty.
If you are located in extended NY Metro area, NYR games on ESPN+ are blacked out.
SN
I experience the same thing with my favorite team the Lighting…………..just joking Wicky!
Blues lose to Sens last night they will be pissed off!
St Pete
I don’t get it, what was wrong with that?
Bobby plenty of depth (including Nino Neidereter who also has scored more goals than our 11 million dollar star)
But they’re not a top five team in the league that should be embarrassing the Rangers on both meetings this year. Clearly a bad match up but the point is that the Rangers seemed uninspired
BDL, I tend to agree with Wicky that Kinkaid is a perfectly capable and better suited back up. With that said I’d still move Georgiev out. Not because of the contract but because despite whatever he may or may not be capable of overall he doesn’t seem very interested in doing it here in his current role.
Likewise the Rangers don’t look ready to collapse in front of him to support his struggles.
James you seem to be on a Breadman tear but Neideriter is on Carolina… anyway the reason they seemed uninspired is that their back up goalie lets in softies
If Heorgiev does not want to be here, Drury should accommodate him. Who wants a guy that does not want to be here? Kinkaid would happily fill that role for now.
Lmao! Not Nino. The other dude. Folingo. Sorry Bobby. I can’t keep my allegedly mediocre wingers straight in my head.
Look im not saying that they aren’t a good team I’m just saying the Rangers shouldn’t be getting blown out like that. Make your own assessments as to why they did. Twice
James a Foligno …or a Greenway is what Rangers need
Wicky
What’s wrong with what?
Rangers have backup goalie problem. Georgiev is all butt hurt….he thinks he didn’t get a fair shot at the #1 job but Igor is clearly better and deserves it. If Georgiev can’t up his game and play well in spot duty the Rangers are better off getting rid of him and finding a back up who knows his fugging role and can play well when his number is called. Rangers can’t afford a drop off in goal because quite frankly I don’t think they’re that good without Igor in net. He doesn’t give up any soft goals. Georgiev is good for at least two softies a game.
If anyone had a right to complain about being a backup it was Glenn Healy in 1994. Coming off a great playoff run in 93. Yes, he signed with us with his eyes open but if anyone could have whined and sulked and it would have been understood to an extent it would have been Healy. He understood “team” and wanted to win a Cup. Georgiev should look him up sometime.
some FA from college ..couple of centers available…Drury needs to stock up
https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/peters-minnesotas-ben-meyers-tops-college-free-agent-list/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
And another thing…if Igor keeps up his play and we make the playoffs in a good spot it be a damn shame if he didn’t win the hart. Tired of guys who score the most points (Mcdavid, Draisaital) on teams who suck (Oilers) winning the mvp. If they were so damn good then why don’t their teams make the playoffs or advance past early rounds (Matthews)?
My son played competitive hockey for 8 years. He said the worst think in any game is knowing your goalie can’t stop a beach ball. It changes the way you play.
Mcbain is supposedly better than average

Also Bobby, it’s not just me. Most of you guys are on a bread man tear you just don’t realize it.
When we sit here day after day saying “oh can’t do this because of the cap. Need more 5v5 scoring but can’t bring anyone in that has term or makes too much. Cant sign Strome. Cant sign Kakko. How are they going to fill 3C?”
Most of those issues are because one guy is making 11+ million dollars a year and he’s not playing as well as we have seen him play in the past.
Just because I’m pointing it out by name shouldn’t matter.
Wicky
Sorry I know you dislike the bolts it was in reference to that. I don’t like them either. Just trying to add some humor to the blog.
St Pete
Oooohhhhh! Lmao.
Sorry, I thought I missed something previously on a thread and was going back and looking for it 🙄
I’ve got too much crap going on clearly
One thing I’ve noticed, rangers don’t play well against teams who play a hard noise game consisting of body checking and being physical and that won’t bode well for the rangers in the playoffs. I’m also starting to think that if it wasn’t for Igor this team would be a mediocre team out of the playoff picture. I hope Drury doesn’t mortgage the future for this year because it would be a waste because this team is nowhere near competing for a cup this year.
ROTFL
James
No idea what is going on with Panarin. He just doesn’t look like the same player from before March 2020. He even looks slower and a number of passes have no crispness to them. Maybe it’s just me idk.
I agree with JamesG regarding Panarin who is not the type of player for the playoffs, for the regular season, sure but not the playoffs. That is a big waste of cap money.
Drury is gonna be bringing in some beef shortly!
The playoffs will be very telling with this lineup.
Agree a comparison of 3rd lines last night illustrates a big issue.
Am I the only one who likes watching Gettinger bang bodies. Kids always around the puck.
It’s obvious they miss Kegger and don’t trust the Red Barron. At least the second part.
regarding the playoffs, you still need to score goals….that’s where Panarin comes in. He needs to shoot more obviously because his current RW can’t but thats an area that hopefully will be addressed
I’m not sure I get all the Zamboni stuff. I think the problem is “hope”…hope gets people all amped up. I think this team is showing what it could have been for the last 3 years but until this year it had a crap gm.
They added some of the players they needed with the new gm, now the team is good…fans get hope thinking of what they could possibly do…but then they see the cap and panic about it because they don’t think it’s possible to be a little better and they get their hope diminished.
It’s all Panarin’s fault because he makes the most money…his production is down a bit but if this team wasn’t good and fans didn’t have hope it would be like last year and it’s the actual holes on the roster that are the problems not Panarin.
SN
Nice of you to hop on the gettinger train, welcome aboard!
Watching Flip “battle” on the wall was all you needed to see from Mr Softy.
As soon as the rangers get rid of Panarin everyone is going to be trying to find the next Panarin
Yeah I don’t want to ship out the Bread he just looks Krusty!
Good thing Drury is unlikely to judge this team the way we are judging them this morning after a bad game. I’m not convinced they win this one with Shesterkin in net. In case you forgot, they won 3 in a row before this stinker, are 20 games over .500, and are sitting comfortably in a solid PO spot. You can’t expect them to win them all and be at your best every night. If anything, if you throw a stinker, you are OK to do it on the road against WC team.
ILB, I understand and agree what you are saying but my eye test tells me Igor on most nights has to stand on his head in order for this team to win because there defense isn’t good.
They are a good team… until Igor pull another groin:)
I think all these convos and reactions are exactly why drury needs to be active and “go for it” this season and quite frankly most seasons.
Everyone talks about this guy isn’t playing as well, if this one guy gets hurt, etc etc…not saying those takes are wrong btw
Simply saying the line between very good team to ok team isn’t that far and when you have it working it needs to be capitalized on…a team is always one hit away from a key player getting sauer’d, you have a career year from a vet player going on and a great season from a goaler. Maybe next season the goalie gets injured and the cet goes back to his career average of 19 goals a year?
Go for it now!
Their current place in the standings has been achieved with a terrible 2C, their star player having a “down” season, one of their two top d pairs being worn down and sleepy, the other top pair having a guy that can’t play any D at all, missing a good third line player in kakko for quite a while, not having Blais for the majority of the season, having no viable third line centre, a bad backup goalie, can’t score at 5v5, missing a top 6 winger from day 1, all of their prospects are past their best before date, they never come out prepared to start games, the coach plays guys that are blocking all stars…this team should be behind montreal in the standings!!!!!
Wicky
Maybe it shows how bad most of the teams in the league are?
GIVE US MORE TEAMS! EXPAND NOW!
Wicky
Now imagine they have declining Hank and Georgiev in net? We’d be the Arizona Rangers.
That’s why Igor is a godsend …
Our 3rd line is anemic!
IIRC, the moment they drafted Shesterkin it was known he was Hank’s heir apparent. So maybe Georgiev thought he’d beat him to it? He wasn’t very smart then. Igor is producing very similar numbers in every league he’s played. All are ridiculous. Now after watching him this year, I know why.
KHL- SV% .935, GAA 1.68
AHL-SV% .934, GAA 1.90
This year-SV% .942, GAA 1.94
Yeah, but how many goals has he scored?!?!
This coaching staff is pressing a lot of the right buttons and top players are playing well (includes Igor). Emergence of Laffy and Schneider.
Remember last season when the Habs went to the Cup Finals…exactly.
There is no perfect roster. In 94 they needed OT in Game 7 in semis to advance and then went to 7 games in Cup final.
Honest question. If the Rangers send Georgiev to Hartford, does he get claimed? And if he does, is it a bad thing?
Yeah I’m the same guy who thought that Edmonton might be desperate enough to give us a 1st round pick for him. I wasn’t anticipating he’d struggle this much.
LOL Wick no need to mock me. I didn’t say get rid of Panarin and I certainly didn’t say anything about goals being all that matter.
If I said Kreider is the problem because of his contract you’d see what I’m attempting to say because you acknowledge the bad contract there.
Panarin needs to step it up. Plenty of other guys do too. But there’s a limit to what they can bring in and when and that’s because they paid a few guys to be at their best. Panarin isn’t at his best right now. That’s all
tom
i think he doesn’t get claimed. we won’t tender him as rfa and let him walk in off season.
and for those bashing Bread for not supposedly being built for the playoffs, it’s not like he’s a complete bust in the playoffs to date. In 30 games he has 10G and 18A
The games will get much tougher beginning next week, as there will be many more divisional games. Even bottom feeders like Devs and Isles always get up to play the Rangers and would like nothing better than to knock them down in the standings. Rangers do not match up with teams that play physical and with speed. To me, the biggest need is to address/replace the third line, not including Goodrow as he plays any/every line depending on the given night.
Rangers should be exploring trade with Wild for McBain(6’4″ Center with skill) to try and address their center need, as it appears McBain will not sign with the Wild and will be a UFA out of Boston College at end of the year. Maybe Chytl and Kratsov can get that done or offer one of those two with this years first round pick. They should also try and sign Meyer, an undrafted free agent center(Wisconsin??). They desperately need better forward/center depth. Trivigno should also be considered as he is local kid from Long Island, however, he is a small left wing but has a lot of skill and compete level. Was Frozen Four MVP last year for UMass and captain of UMass this year.
id feel a lot more comfortable heading into the playoffs if Panarin was paired with PLD and Anderson than Strome and Hunt. A good playoff team will be able to keep Panarin and Strome to the perimeter more than we’d like and that problem gets compounded if Panarin keeps being so hesitant to shoot and Strome keeps missing so much. Not gonna knock Hunt, he just isn’t a top 9 player
Brining in a guy like Miller would help a lot, but seems less and less likely that happens by the deadline and same with Pavelski.
So who else is out there that could play that role on that line?
James
With all due respect, that had nothing to do with you.
Pete
So you’re trying to replace 2 of the guys on the Zamboni line?
Only the RW before the deadline, Wick. But should replace both in the offseason or expect more of the same
Ok, that makes sense.
To your question about who…well it seems the consensus on here is the guy needs to have some overt physicality to his game like Goodrow but that scores at a higher rate than Goodrow from what I can interpret from everyone’s posts about that spot.
Of the names that have been bandied about, guys that don’t meet both of those “criteria” are…rakell, Kessel, lehtonen
Guys that in theory do…miller (if he’s a wing), comtois, kubalik, radulov (not sure Dallas is moving guys at this point).
I think guys like smith and debrusk can possibly fill both criteria but not sure…it’s “potential” to.
I’m at a loss for other popular names at the moment.
Wicky
R. Smith is the guy just doubt Vegas would move him
agree Eli they will do everything they can to keep smith.
i do like idea of trying to get comtois even tho may be hard.
also think Dallas is a buyer more likely than not
Smith was the guy rumoured on the move from Vegas for most of the season until they started the ltir train.
Smith has one of those unique names.
‘The life of Riley’ see what I did there?
All for Comtois but not sure he would be the fit for Breadman line…a LW and not much offense …Rackell is best ..realistic fit
Saw a name that was new and interesting earlier today…Connor Brown from Ottawa RW that can score a little signed for another year also at 3.6
think we need to avoid taking on that kind salary for next season unless it’s a center (as wouldn’t pay more to get Ottowa to retain cap, if their cheapskate owner would even do it)
agree re Rakell if not too expensivo
Pete I think Brown plays some center also …don’t think 3.6 is crazy
For those who have doubts about going for it this year, the Rangers have Shestyerkin for 3 more years at $5.66. (Vasilesky is on a long term $9.5 aav deal) We’ll cross that bridge when we have to, but Drury needs to go big or go home. Get a middle 6 center, a middle 6 right winger and a left D who is made for the playoffs. Don’t be a hedgehog.
If you guys think the opposite wing of Panarin needs to have some physicality, rakell is NOT the guy.
Which, as I mentioned earlier, seemed to be the consensus here and was one of the two attributes you guys talk about was needed on that line.
You guys should make up your minds lol
Anyone watch last nights game and thinks the rangers can play 4 ,7 game series of that kind of hockey? We are at least 2 to 3 players away. I am all for trying to get them this year but i just do not think that is going to happen.
To me a very big problem is our backup goalie. They have got to fix that sooner then later or georgie will be dead by the first week in may. I just dont think there are enough big boys on this team.i could be wrong but i dont think so.
What would Hertl cost?
what they need and what they can get may not be one and the same tho
kubalik likely obtainable, but another lefty so can he play his off wing? not sure i’d give up more than a 2nd for him tho
comtois also a lefty and harder to obtain given age and already signed for next year, but would be someone to gamble a good prospect on
no thanks on debrusk (another lefty) as won’t be cheap given still an RFA this offseason and can’t afford to resign him (or at least would be an unwise use of cap space)
tom, have to think the ask would a 1st, good prospect (Nils/Othman, etc) and then another pick/prospect.
may not get all they want, but don’t think they’d take Chytil as best player/asset in the deal
Okposo? What’s his cap hit?
St Pete
2 yrs 6 mil per
Maybe we could pry Chytil from the Rangers. He’s young, relatively cheap, big (like KAM, and just filling out,) has netted six goals already this season, and can play anywhere in the lineup at center or wings.
Pete
By lefty, I’m speculating you mean lefty shot and that doesn’t really matter. The best that line has looked is with Goodrow on it…a lefty…hunt is a lefty…buch played there last year, he is a lefty.
If a guy is like Kreider and can’t or won’t play the off hand side, then that’s a reasonable reason to exclude a guy as a potential candidate for the spot, but just because a guy is a lefty shot doesn’t mean he should immediately be omitted.
Plenty of guys play their off wing and play it well.
Edmonton needs to trade for Scoregiev. Koskinen just let in a goal by Washington with.8 seconds left to tie the game. Even Scoregiev would’ve stopped that one.
I would ant Rackell for Panarin wing as plan A with some beef added in bottom 6 along with Kakko return …..Physical wing is plan B but options with scoring punch appear limited
You talk about not ideal possibilities, that’s fine and quite likely…Goodrow is not ideal and costs no assets and quite possibly fits better than some guys that would. He has 12 goals this season playing all over in the lineup, it’s not impossible to see him at 20 with regular shifts there for the majority of a season…it’s not ideal, but…..
Bobby, anyone has more scoring punch than career high 4 goal scorer Dryden Hunt
Yikes. McDavid and Draisatl in a 2 on 1 in overtime. Any chance that combo ever fails?
Bobbyo
Makes no sense if folks are worried about perimeter play etc from the line. That’s the gist I get from most.
No one says it has to be a scoring guy or a physical guy, I think the opposite and the player should be able to do both.
And I’m not against adding rakell fwiw, just don’t think he’s best suited for the Panarin line.
Rakell is a sniper and would bury some of the sweet feeds from Panarin and Strome, but he is not a banger or puck retriever. That line would be even more of a prancing line than it is now with Rakell. So it depends what the Rangers want. They could put Rakell there until Kakko gets back, then put him on the 3rd line with Chytil and Goodrow/Whomever to add some offense. Rakell can also play center.
I’m not sure Kreider won’t play on the right side. I think it’s more the chemistry with Zibanejad righty Kreider lefty. They love their breakouts.
yea sure some guys can play off wing, but others struggle with it, so would want to know that before making the trade.
Not exactly flattering description of Debrusk’s game in a recent Boston Globe article (from January):
“ Where DeBrusk’s game lacks most, and therefore he can make his greatest strides, is fighting for the puck — be it around the net, between the hash marks, or along the wall. Telling that he again did not land a hit Saturday, amid a game in which the two sides totaled an NHL season-high of 91 hits.
DeBrusk has recorded only 12 hits this season, the lowest among Bruins…. DeBrusk doesn’t have to transform himself into a bruiser. He does not have that frame. (6 feet, 195 pounds). But the best trade available resides within himself, a willingness to use his speed and reasonable size to get after pucks along boards, in the corners, and contest more in high-danger areas. He is built to fly and produce off the rush, and he delivers best when using his jets to burn by checking wingers or defensemen. It’s the heavy, mucking, grinding, blade-to-the-ice, workhorse game where he comes up far too light, sells himself way too short, and too often renders his line a nonfactor on the scoresheet.”
I’m not one worried about perimeter play from Panarin line… just looking for an offensive upgrade. The grit is going to come from the beef Drury adds to the bottom 6
I think we’re all getting away from the point. Grit vs goal scoring is not a thing. Or at least it shouldn’t be. Ideally you want a couple of well rounded players to be acquired. No successful team that I know of has clearly divided top 9s within it’s roster where they say “ok you guys go out and only try to score. ok now you guys go out there and only do some rough stuff”..maybe in the 80s. And yes there are shut down lines and grinding lines etc but the successful teams aren’t comprised of a bottom six that can’t do anything with the puck.
Bobbyo
That is proven to not work. The grit has to be throughout the lineup not just at the bottom.
James is correct, it’s not one versus the other the player has to do both…which is also what I’ve stated.
Pete
It’s very possible re debrusk he isn’t the best fit there, it’s why I put him in the bot sure category so to speak.
I also feel like he’s a change of scenery candidate and should be treated as such…definitely not a guy I would “overpay” for.
Well putting a RW that can’t score with an all world player and passer ain’t gonna work either. If you get a Rackell at RW that pushes a more well rounded player like Kakko to the 3rd line. And while I’m all for well rounded players its not clear how many of those are available for a reasonable price at the deadline. Bottom line I would rather more grit/size added for bottom 6 than seeing any more of Goatboy, Brodz, Kegger or Gettinger …we already know that they can’t friggin score….pretty sure Drury is gonna feel the same way
I have looked throughout the league at teams that may be selling at the deadline. There really isn’t a right wing out there that checks all the boxes that we are looking for. The key there is checks all the boxes!
Good morning, boneheads!
Game day.
I really don’t have much to add to this deadline debate. Except two things. No GM whose team is still has a reasonable chance to get in by 21st will go and tell his owner he is trading so and so, or a few of them, because it’s the best for this team’s future even though it will hurt this team’s chances of making it now. Because if he does he will be told by his owner to take a permanent hike or compensate him for potential loss of gate receipts.
And second thing. No GM will do Drury a favor and trade his assets for what some of us think they should. They know about all of these prospects/players more than we do.
Clearly we agree to disagree on this, Panarin has produced well with a certain type of player his numbers over his career are better with those types than with Kane.
I don’t think there is a single person on here that doesn’t want to see 30+ goal scorers on every line. Love to see more production out of that line, but putting a one zone guy out there that can’t do what that line needs becomes more detrimental overall than a positive.
There’s a difference between can’t score and scores at a rate that is acceptable to some fans lol.
Ilb,
I’m going to disagree. If you are Anaheim, you are going to keep Lindholm, and Rakell in hopes you may sneak in? Risk losing them fo nothing in the summer?, instead of getting helpful assets in return?
Vancouver has been rumored to be trading everyone we have talked about because they want cap flexibility. Boeser has a ridiculous QO. His days are numbered. Playoffs or not.
He’s a good fit
BTW, Brooks, in his article today mentioned that he has heard a few rumbles that Panarin may be unhappy with the Gallant system. To stifling to him.
If true there’s nothing like a disgruntled superstar!
Several sources have suggested that Panarin may feel constrained playing for Gallant, whose system is more structured than that of predecessor David Quinn, with an emphasis on chipping pucks out of the zone on the breakout. Hence, there are fewer home-run passes, fewer odd-man breaks through the neutral zone (unless triggered by Igor Shesterkin) and less open ice on which Panarin can work.
If there is truly an issue here, it must be resolved. The Rangers can bolster their third line, they can add depth on defense, but if Panarin is a pedestrian, the Blueshirts will be going nowhere
Sorry, didn’t get all of that, but that’s the part Brooks wrote about Panarin.
Wick what does that line need exactly? is it someone who forechecks and retrieves pucks and is reliable defensively because than Hunt checks those boxes
BDL whats constraining Panarin isnt the system but more likely that he has a 4th liner playing on his RW
Bdl
That’s a possibility. Change of systems affect players and that’s been brought up before. It’s the same reason you need to be careful if you’re drury and the kind of player you add to play that other wing. It has to be a guy that is physical and plays 200’…especially when you consider Panarin , the system, etc.
Not to mention, GG hasn’t been the best with Russian players in the past…he “seems” less tolerant fwiw.
Geez, slow down, BDL. The operative word is reasonable. Anaheim is 5 points behind and played 3 games more. Vancouver? I’d like to look at the rest of their schedule, but they just won 3 in a row.
Panarin did just fine in Tortorella’s system. It might be more stifling than GG’s
Bobbyo
No, it has to be an agressive overt physical guy with that can score 20 goals. And no, not saying anything close to an enforcer type, but guys like hunt and Blackwell etc are not it, not overt enough.
Same with kakko now, in the future it’s absolutely possible if he’s still here.
It could be a centre instead of the wing, and strome is feisty but similar to hunt he doesn’t have the overt oomph behind it on a routine basis.
Goodrow is the best in house fit and the stats that were posted a few threads ago reinforce that.
Outside the org, I listed a few guys that might be available that would fit previously…other guys probably not obtainable or fit due to cap like Anderson (worked well before), a tkachuk, landeskog, etc
Ilb
I think the thing it’s it could be mix of things, the system could be part of it. So can the lack of a steady winger, nagging injury perhaps, etc.
Pretty sure in the torts system his opposite winger was the ideal fit for him and his style…although his production wasn’t as good as here with his hodgepodge mix of wingers.
As far as Boeser goes. $7.5M QO is still the same for any team he’s traded to. It will be very few of them because of cap constrains. That team should also be willing to sign him long term thereafter. Otherwise it’s not really worth giving up assets. I have to look, but I believe he’s going to be an UFA after next season.
He is
He is completing his 6th pro year, so he’s an UFA after next season. And I edited my previous post to what I meant to say.
Talented, cheap yutes always in demand.
To me boeser is in the same category as any player they might add that is a ufa at the end of the season…rakell, pavelski, Giroux, boeser, hertl, etc…you pay the rental price if as the gm you think your team needs it and you’re willing to do it.
I heard crouse name in a rumour again today, I think he’s got term and I’m not sure the role (I know someone here didn’t like him on a previous team…apologies I don’t remember who)…just passing on what I heard.
Exactly, Wicky. Let’s say Drury trades for him. He’s here for one run. How much would you guys be willing to give up for him?
anyway you look at it the rangers are stuck under a rock and a hard place and as usual because of the cap and these contracts. I rather they bring in a few bottom six playable toughness players for the playoffs and call it a day.
to add to my post I rather Drury wait until the offseason to make any big trade/trades.
regarding offseason, trades for player’s in need going forward with term.
If I’m drury I’d be showing other teams georgiev’s stats when he’s been the “starter” not a clear backup behind shesty because he sucks as a backup but he’s a decent starter.
Then you take whatever you can get for him at this deadline because it’s more than you get by letting him walk. Or use him in a larger deal.
Can we get Laine from Columbus? He’s been on a major tear ever he returned from the injury.
Ilb
Doesn’t matter what we’d give up, it matters what drury will;)
I’d give up a decent haul.
But I also think it’s a fluid situation for the rangers with a couple of unknown next contracts at this point (strome and kakko) and whether or not those guys are both back or just kakko is. That’s an estimated $8-9 mil…moving parts and all…I rule nothing out at this point and the potential of add now, worry about the cap later is a possibility.
crouse control.
Crouse another LW!
Wick aggressive physical guys that that can score 20 goals are not gonna be readily available or fit within cap structure going forward ..Especially at RW. Assuming you are talking about a Gallagher/Anderson/Tuch/Konechny type .. brought up Connor Brown as a possibility as a lower level option
So few jobs in the NHL, it’s hard to believe there are kids, no matter what size, who won’t go into all-out, unrelenting 45 second shift beast mode within their game.
Goodrow has 12 goals through a partial season and has played all over the lineup including lower lines…I understand that the big name guys are high $$$$…they didn’t start that way in some cases, they earned it and showed they could.
I don’t think lw/RW matters in many cases…as we’ve discussed before.
Brown…he doesn’t fit in with the rest of those guys…I’d rather have Goodrow than brown.
I get it, you’re bargain shopping and that’s understandable due to cap constraints going forward but not mandatory by any means.
disagree on the lw/RW matters …..can’t be wasting assets to fill a hole unless they are sure it can be filled
I think you are being a bit flippant and assuming a lot. You make it sound like there is no “research” being done by the trade makers of the rangers regarding incoming players.
I feel that’s an asinine stance on your part, in no way shape or form am I going on that when I list players and fully expect drury (not James but Chris) to do his due diligence on which wing a guy can play.
When I say lw/RW doesn’t matter, I’m talking about the position a player is “listed” at on various media outlets…I could care less about that, it’s can they play a position effectively that matters.
BDL,
I don’t think GMs look at it as cut and dry as fans do with this whole “they HAVE to trade guys instead of risking them walking for nothing” stuff. If a team is a bubble team and there’s pressure from ownership on the FO and the coaches to make it then yeah you’re absolutely taking that risk because your job depends on it. It’s as simple as that. There’s no one in the organization going “well we’re 3 points out of the wild card but we need to trade 3 guys from our core because they’re on expiring contracts”. I mean maybe it’s something they waiver about but it’s certainly not a cut and dry scenario. Dallas is fighting for a spot and have guys they’re going to risk losing but they’re supposedly one of the most aggresive shoppers on the trade market right now.
I will say this much about Panarin- If the organization is headed towards any kind of issues between HC and star player then it’s on Drury for not finding a way to avoid it upon hiring a head coach. There needs to be communication and everyone needs to be on the same page from the get go. Especially when you’re paying a guy ELEVEN MILLION dollars. So let’s hope that it’s a resolvable issue or maybe not an issue at all.
You’re “wasting” assets (I disagree trading prospects for rentals is a waste when you are trying to win a championship) on ANY rental regardless of cost (according to your position) unless they win a cup this season.
And there are degrees of “wasting”. Moving a player like nils that is pretty clearly blocked in his path to the nhl with the rangers for 3 or 4 more seasons is clearly a much lower degree of wasting than if you trade Schneider for a rental.
You hold on to these prospects for too long for fear of “wasting” them even though they may not be the best team fit or get passed on the depth chart by other prospects, then you suddenly have a georgiev on your hands.
Wicky, I’ll just butt into your conversation here even though Bobby likes to yell at me. I think his concern may be that they’re going to trade for a guy who has no experience playing RW and just put him there and say “play right”.
And I think what you’re saying is that yeah that could be done but there are also plenty of versatile guys in the league who can and do play more than one wing regardless of who is a left or a righty.
I feel like it’s a little more of an issue with defensemen but Kucherov is a lefty for pete sake. Something like 82% of the league’s forwards are lefties and they aren’t all playing LW/C so…
Bread has been a little stale since coming back from COVID, but the points are still coming. That said, he’s a 30 goal scorer on average for career, a bit below that pace (22) for this year. THE aside, he’s not going to magically turn into a 50 goal scorer.
James
It’s huge with d men, not nearly as significant with forwards.
And you are partially correct and it may indeed be what Bobbyo is saying, but it’s not anywhere close to what I am saying nor for a second do I think the organization is going to trade for a guy that can’t effectively play the position they are putting him in and as I stated in my 1:06 post, I think it’s asinine and ridiculous to infer that’s what I meant or what the organization would do.
Gravy
Exactly…a point producer not a huge goal number scorer (not trivializing 30 goals, just saying he’s not a 40 or 50 goal guy).
disagreeing with you doesn’t make me asinine … some players are designated LW or RW for a reason that where they usually play. And if the research involves he played the off wing back in the minors or juniors well then then maybe thats not the right fit.
3.14 GPG under Quinn, 3.00 under GG. System is definitely stifling.
Dallas is a veteran team, looking to make a run. The Ducks are all about the youth. Very different scenarios. Vancouver, and Winnipeg are sort of stuck in the middle. Both need to retool. They have gone as far as they can with their core. It hadn’t worked. Both need personal changes.
Bobbyo
Two things….
First, assuming that I meant it didn’t matter if the guy could play the position he was being acquired to play is asinine…period end of story. That is not disagreeing with me but instead making an incorrect assumption!!!!
Second, that’s a pretty big assumption you are also making about the organization and them considering acceptable research for greenlighting a trade is this guy is a left wing but we need a right wing and like his game and he played right wing in bantam for 4 games….let’s make the trade…lol
BDL- agree on Ducks. I was talking with teams like Vancouver and Dallas in mind.
Wick, that wasn’t my inference regarding your take on lefty/righty. I knew what you were saying. I get what he’s saying too or at least I’m interpreting it how I think it makes sense. But you guys carry on, you’re doing a great job : D
Do you guys know anything about Jankrok? I had never heard of him before his name popped up as a potential acquisition.
Ducks put Getzlaf and Silfverberg on IR so let the fire sale begin.
He’s meh
Uncle Larry was also talking about Foxy and Lindy slowing down and being negative plus-minus since break.
.
Player like Bread will always feel Constrained in a system. GG happy to win 1-0; just cares about the win. Remember he chose to leave Torts system and joins team with a rookie HC with no system.
.
The issue is not Bread scoring at lower rate but the lack of any bottom 6 scoring that places a heavier burden on top 6 to produce.
.
At the very least Drury can upgrade bottom 6, they get Kakko back and have the depth for a run.
I think we all agree they should trade for a LW to put on the second line RW.
That Princeton kid is probably going to sign with the pens…don’t tell st Pete 😉
Gravy, if I wanted to try to create some turbulence I would argue that Panarin hasn’t been the same since Wilson pounded him into the MRI tube but I honestly think that’s a coincidence.
I think he took liberties with Quinn too- not that he was “happier with Quinn’s system”. So if the coach is the issue he’s gotta get over it.
I’ve stirred the pot unintentionally by critcizing him this season. I know he’s not a 40 goal guy and I know he’s on pace for roughly his average output but I think we got two seasons or seeing the level he can play on and he’s just not at that level this season for whatever reason IMO. That hurts for a team that’s relying heavily on goaltending and is in need of more 5v5 scoring. If he were contributing even just a little bit more in terms of goal scoring at 5v5 I think they’d be in better shape for the post season.
I mean the Blue Jackets have scored more as a team this season. if that doesn’t say the Rangers are too reliant on goaltending I’m not sure what does.
Just like everyone thought they were bringing in a winger to play centre gravy lol
Wicky
Thanks for that 🐧 tidbit! Makes my day and ruins my night. But I have plenty of rum on hand.
St Pete
I’m here for you 😘
I would not be a bit surprised if the Rangers end up with fat Kessel.
Is there another version that isn’t fat?
There may have been at one time before he discovered pastry!
They should trade for Kessel. Fat or not.
Bdl
They just might he would be chunky cheap!
Wick there are a lot of names flying around here and most of them play left wing
Bread would have 10+ more points with a different RW. If his play is one of the bigger issues; this team is in good shape for a run.
His cap hit along with Foxys next season is a bigger issue imho in a flattish hard cap league.
.
Mika lining up Greenway for a bit on the wall when they were down in the 3rd period last game was another data point how GG and staff have helped his overall game.
.
If Laffy is staying on RW, moving him to Bread’s line and Kakko to Mika’s may be in the best long (and short) term interests of the team. The Bread line needs a shooter who can engage on wall. Mika’s line needs more wall play than shooting per se.
Not a 2022 solution though
Brodeur after unexpectedly meeting Kessel at Manhattan restaurant and getting chilly reception : “I guess Fatso there forgot to shake my hand.”
GG is very complimentary even to his worst children in public. In person, he has the more factual, unflattering things to communicate.
Bobbyo
So? Still does not mean they can’t play RW effectively or don’t now.
Kakko should not be in the top 6 when he comes back. If he is drury has not done a good enough job by the deadline.
There isn’t much available on the R wing to help them with scoring. Kessel isn’t a horrible option, I’m just not how much he has left, to be honest. I would approach it differently for this playoffs run. I’d would spend (reasonably) to get Lindholm from Anaheim. More than solid L D-man who eats big minutes. He can take off a lot of pressure from Miller who can be sheltered from playing against top players. And he can also relieve Lindgren, depending on the opponent, and depending on how deep they go. I would get a banger/defensive forward for the third line, and a depth forward who can play the wall and fill in when necessary.
I’m sure you are all getting my point. With that defense, and with Shesterkin, there isn’t as much pressure to to try and outscore your opponent. I’m pretty sure our top 6 are able to score enough. Even with Hunt or Goodrow there. Plus, playoffs or not, there will be PP opportunities. This is still a lethal PP
I don’t disagree with SN about lack of bottom six scoring but what was to be expected going into this season? Chytil was the only guy with offensive skill per say. Goodrow has never been a goal scorer. The fact that he has 12 this year is a testament to his versatility and being able to hang in the top six when he’s had to.
But Blais had 8 goals last season. Rooney 6. Offense certainly wasn’t the plan for Reaves and Hunt and Mckegg were supposed to be 13th forwards/AHL. So unless they were expecting Gauthier or Chytil to pot 15+ or maybe felt that Kravtsov would have been in the mix to add some offense I don’t see where they were going to get points from the bottom six.
I think it was more about the fact that they had two guys that are/were capable of 100 point seasons in the top six.
The game is at 8pm, so I’m not carping anyone till 7:30 😃
Lindholm is gonna cost alot..more than Chariot for sure
Is the asking price for chariot a 1st plus?
Might as well make the ducks a one stop shop lol…lindholm, comtois, rakell
James I think they were expecting at least some scoring from bottom 6 … Gauthier one goal last 24 games, McKegg one in 34, Chytil 3 in 23
etc
throw in Getzlaf for James Wick
What’s giordano going to cost?
Damnit…I forgot him, yes….getzlaf, rakell, comtois, and lindholm.
Giordano was supposed to be a 2nd rounder with Flames return the rumor
I think they need vet d depth besides Tinordi for the playoffs.
Giordano, chariot, lindholm…who else is a LD that’s available? Chara?
I’d much rather spend on Lindholm that Rakell. I’m not sure Chiarot is upgrade on Nemeth.
So what you guys are saying is we need some more Playable Toughness…
They need to get fox away from the pk and it’s minutes…I’m for either giving those pk minutes to Schneider or for adding whichever d man fills in for miller or Nemeth (I’m guessing) that will take the fox minutes (but he’s a righty so it makes sense for Schneider to me).
Dehaan from Hawks …Leddy/Staal Detroit… Hagg Buffalo
Dekaiser cleared waivers so I guess Drury doesn’t read our blog
Haven’t heard Henrique’s name mentioned so I’m guessing he’s not been speculated to move. He’s got 2 years left on his deal @$5.825. If Anaheim wanted to retain even a little salary, he might make sense. FWIW, he played for GG and with Schneider in Riga @ the World Championships. If we’re looking for one-stop-shopping, could lump him in as well, but again, haven’t heard any rumors about him being moved.
Lindholm would be a huge upgrade over Nemeth. However, of the UFAs in Anaheim he is the one the Ducks are striving to lock up. If they don’t, he will be a very expensive rental who the Rangers will likely not be able to afford to keep. Chiarot is nothing special and I would not go near him.
Lindholm is an upgrade on anyone they have on the L side.
ilb, 6:30. lol. Everyone gets nervous around Post Time, worried that their Pulitzer-worthy contributions will be either un-read or Carped.
Hey Wick, if you’re ever confused about who said what about a player not in the team, go look at what teams that player has played for. Nine times out of 10 of that player has played for the Panthers, that person was me. Lol
I was the one who didn’t want Crouse.
