When was the last time any NY team had a draft pick like Cooper Kupp? Is it HL?

  47. Wicky Avatar
    Wicky

    Beezle
Interesting thought. I like the tans approach to winning. They don’t overvalue first round draft picks and normally trade them for proven league players instead of maybes or potentials. They also make their draft later draft pick success an important part of the teams depth etc.

They do their draft homework and get true value in the the mid late rounds while continuing to improve their roster with actual players by using high round picks…I like it.

Zibanejad (500 pts), and Kreider (400pts), approaching milestones. Kreider is a plus 80 for his career! I know, I know, meaningless STAT, but not bad for a guy who for most of his career was considered pretty bad defensively.

  52. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

He is the NY Mets first baseman. 2nd round pick. I believe Krupp was a third rounder.

  53. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

hmmm.. Alonzo played for Florida in college, seems a little less of a draft reach than Eastern Washington who are 1-AA? Romo was also out of 1-AA so not that there aren’t potential solid players but few in number ever become elite.

I’m struggling with Tomas Hertl. I don’t see the attraction. He has had one big season. The rest of the time he has been a middling player. He’s going to get 56 mill in the summer.

I’m kind of talking myself into Pavel Zacha. RFA in the summer. Do for a raise, but should not be a massive one. Probably in the 4 range. An ascending player. Might be able to sing him and Strome.

  62. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

Zib #424 (218), THE #454(210) in regular season goals scored in NHL history.

Need over 310 to potentially break into top 200, 402 to enter the top 100, 485 for top 50 and 601 for top 25. Over 761 total points gets you in the top 200 of that stat.

Barring injury both should end up at least in the top 200, Zib has legit shot at top 100.

For comparison (Goals, Total Points) career through season todate:

    Kreider:
    stdev 5.6, 7.5
    median 21.0, 45.0
    mean 23.1, 43.3

    Hertl:
    stdev 7.2, 15.4
    median 19.0, 38.0
    mean 19.2, 40.1

    Kreider > Hertl

  73. Wicky Avatar
    Wicky

And to be very clear my guffaw is about how fast someone posted some sort of stat to show some sort of Kreider hertl comparison.

I’ve never been a hertl fan, if the rangers add him to play In the Chytil spot as a rental (I don’t think they will) it’s an upgrade there for sure, but there are other options I’d much rather have.

I’d take Kreider over him 10 out of 10 times.

    But still lmao

  74. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

NYR should be in on Giroux. Fits the bill of playoff rental going to summer UFA. No impact going forward as likely still will ask more than NYR can or should pay for 34 yr old.

Not sure what the ask will be. Our 1st will probably be in the mid 20s, still fairly attractive for a rebuilding team.

JT, btw, doesn’t have any restrictive clauses in his contract. That’s because he was traded to Vancouver before he was eligible for UFA status. Vancouver didn’t honor his trade clause that was given him by Tampa. Teams can’t do that anymore.

  84. Wicky Avatar
    Wicky

If he’s moved, it’ll be his 4th stop. He’s got talent and a not terrible contract considering the talent. For his sake, maybe he’ll get his act or perceived act together at his next destination.

Not surprising gorts finds a deal with Calgary

He had a ton of conversations with them as rangers GM, used to talking/ negotiating with each other and suddenly gorton has a new trove of assets and knows what treveling wants to do.

  106. Wicky Avatar
    Wicky

Carolina had 9 new players this season…9….no one talks about the rebuild because roster turnover in clumps is not a rebuild.

To publicly state what they are doing (in a very “quiet” league) to allow their ineptitude to be covered by fans gullibility, is a stroke of genius.

Pete, as far as that idiotic QO for Tkachuck goes. They tried to at least limit that with the new CBA by capping the QO to 120% of AAV. Doesn’t apply to his contract though since it was signed before 7/2020. But I guess you can’t fully eliminate the stupidity because even it it was applicable to his contract, his QO would’ve been $8.4M. Not much of a difference

Word is neither horvat or Miller are the rangers 1st choice off Vancouver.

Miller just happens to be the most available and fits the best/easiest.

Horvat looks like a guy who has no interest in playing in the New York market

He just gives me those vibes.

The juice in gallants pressers come from the things he outright dismisses and shoots down (which is truth) and the way he handles the media’s questions he doesn’t want to answer.

Seeing Yahoo sports chatter about Drury having interest in Chiarot.
As well as he should. Gorton drama aside, I think he’d be a nice playoff piece and could be had for a respectable price in the Hajek/Tumo R2 neighborhood.

Chiarot is physical, playoff experienced and a team first kind of players. A lot of fans will hate him instantly.

If the kakko injury drags out, it makes the potential addition of bdl’s boy for third line RW (with kakko out) more logical. I still think him in the top 6 is a bad trade off but third line is where he’s made his hay in the past.

I don’t think we need to worry about Drury being Hedghog JR

He has already shown plenty of difference. Including limiting leaks. Obtaining gritty players.

Drury is an NHL captain with Stanley Cup ring

Gorton is a suit who could just as easily been a gym teacher or a high school principal

Drury did his time as assistant GM but was given the job because he has a different vision of what the team needs to be. If he was Gorton 2.0 I don’t think sather and Dolan would have given him the keys

The thing about Hagel and the Goodrow type player…the subject is 100% accurate. The debate was great because one of those guys said he was a Goodrow type and the other guy didn’t think so. I’m in agreement with the latter, don’t think he’s a Goodrow type guy.

Interesting thought that wasn’t mentioned on the pod but I was thinking, is Blais not a Goodrow type player? Is it possible that drury realized this in the summer?

    Just a question.

  207. cregg7 Avatar
    cregg7

Really sucks not having Blaze On for the stretch run and playoffs.

Wanted to see more of him and what he brought to his line.

The other team had to be aware he was on the ice (as did Chytil) so they didn’t get their heads knocked off with a hit. That opens space and creates turnovers as opponents need to rush to get rid of the puck.

Reaves does some of that but not a middle six like blais. And Blais with his speed and youth can sustain the effort for many more minutes

Effin PK slewban!!!! Gosh darn it!

This is from pronmans article on who says no

    16. Rangers acquire JT Miller at 50 percent retention in exchange for Vitali Kravtsov, Nils Lundkvist, 2022 first-round pick — Anthony C.

Miller being reacquired by the Rangers has been a popular rumor of late. The Rangers have a deep farm system to make a deal work, and you figure one of Zac Jones or Nils Lundkvist will be moved this deadline or in the offseason. They’re both strong prospects but hard to imagine an NHL coach playing three small offense-driven defensemen given they already have Adam Fox.

Exec No. 1: That’s not bad. Canucks would get a first-round pick. Gets them some cap space, and a very good defense prospect — of which they have little in their system. Kravtsov is a wash. Rangers have two second-round picks this year and some cap space so I like this deal for both sides.

Exec No. 2: It sounds fair, maybe Rangers say no

I personally do this deal if I’m drury.

    https://theathletic.com/3124375/2022/02/15/who-says-no-nhl-executives-evaluate-your-trade-proposals-for-chychrun-giroux-hertl-and-others/

But I think the deal would be done already if drury offered all 3 of those pieces in a Miller deal alone

More likely drury would like to use those 3 assets in 1-3 separate deals instead of packaging all 3 for 1

I wonder what drury would value more to keep. This years 1st or Matthew Robertson

I might in the rangers spot prefer Robertson’s development and close to readiness over a 20-27OA 1st rounder
