It’s Go The Rafters Time!

Published by

on

I am posting this one earlier than usual because there is a big, big night at the Garden. Henrik Lundqvist’s number will become the 11th number retired, and the third goaltender. It’s usually a very emotional night, and I’m sure some of us will need extra Kleenex. I will.

As for the game, it won’t start until 8 pm.

Rangers (28-12-4) vs Wild (25-10-3), 8 pm start, TV-MSG+

Projected lineup:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Gauthier

Panarin-Strome-Goodrow

Lafreniere-Gettinger-Hunt

McKegg-Rooney-Reaves

Miler-Trouba

Lindgren-Schneider

Jones-Hajek

Nemeth, Brodzinski, Lundkvist-prucha’d

Fox (placed on IR today), Kako, Chytil-injured

Shesterkin in net

It was Meeka from the side that poked it in; Talbot never controlled puck and he splayed out in crease. Stromeo did not push him

  22. Jpp2.0 Avatar
    Jpp2.0

Strome made talbot fall forward by pushing the bottom of his pad forward with his stick, making talbot leg extend and his knee spread with it and fall forward and strome kinda ‘jumped’ the puck in.

At least no ENG. Shesty kept it close and stopped a penalty shot. They easily could have given up 4 or 5 in the second.

    (Cleaned that up)
Strome made talbot fall forward (onto his chest) by pushing the bottom of his pad forward (into the net) with his stick, making talbot leg extend and his knee slide* with it and causing him to lose all support under him and fall face forward and strome kinda ‘humped’ the puck in at the same time

It was actually mika who put that puck in. I wonder if what happens if strome didn’t do that. Talbot probably just holds onto the puck. It really was strome pushing his pad causing him to fall forward that make it a loose puck.

The Rangers were physically manhandled after the first period with no response. The physicality of the early season is gone. Igor gave one up he usually does not in the 3rd and that it all she wrote. The ref enjoyed his power at the end, finding an excuse to shut everything down and Toronto backed him. That is the kind of call the Rangers never get. Shesterkin got elbowed in the head by Greenway and there was no call. A very poorly officiated game overall. Blowing these games on special nights is getting old.

That was my first thought when I saw the ref’s reaction calling “no goal” — it’s ironic all those goals that were scored around Henrik with the refs swallowing their whistles: all throughout thr Finals against LA, Henrique’s goal in 2012 ECF, yada yada.

I’m so happy they got the call right. Makes up for all those missed trips, clutches, interference that happened earlier in the game. 🙄

  51. Jpp2.0 Avatar

Ooo that panther game is the last game before the break?

    Thats be a great ‘challenge’

We’ll see if the rangers make it a great ‘game’. Will be a good sign If they show up ready to play for real hard game instead of having an off-night that leads them into 2 weeks off

The break should be really good for us.

Amazing how important the rangers getting their Canadian games out of the way super early in the season has become. Had we had a Canadian trip during December the team would be playing through the break instead of having one

Unprecedented kind of break behind the stretch run , really. This rest could really help injuries wise in the right
Now and energy wise come games 60 and on

I’d say they missed Fox. (duh)

I don’t love Laffy with Kreider and Zibanejad.

Thought the reffing was lousy all bight. They saw the Rangers getting out worked and decided not to call the elbow on Greenway, the flying sticks that hooked, tripped and slashed. Could have called Fiala for his boarding Lindgren in the first.

So reading the thread….seeing all the during the game “observations” 🙄…folks here are unhappy with the lack of physicality and push back and no one was making the other team accountable for “egregious” liberties taken against the rangers.

Based on that “analysis” by folks, the rangers do not need to see any more of jones or Hajek and need Tinordi in at a minimum and should see if dale purinton or a similar type player is available as well.

The Rangers have been winning quite a few games by playing sloppy lucky hockey with great goaltending. It’s finally caught up with them. You can’t play the last 2 periods skating backwards. There was no forechecking, hitting or gritty work. We watched them skate for 2 periods. Our defense sucks; such give aways. Unbelievable. Unless some of the veterans get together and get this team back on track we’re in for some problems. Our game strength is puck possession and controlling the neutral zone. If we don’t do either of those 2 things we’re not gonna win very many games.

don’t know what the answer is, but four more years of strome and Panarin leading our offense isn’t the answer. Need a different dynamic at center and right wings to get to the next level.

And pretty embarrassing crop of forwards we are playing now, like a tom renney fantasy lineup of mediocrity

  79. SN Avatar
    SN

    They need to figure out a 3rd line;
Hunt-Barron-Kakko won’t get the masses excited but could be an effective line maintaining ozone possession and playing responsible D.

To note, I saw Bread knocked down from behind, Strome engaged with Greenway and no response from Reavo. That was most disappointing.

Greenway is big but will get a beat down if he drops the gloves. He needed more than a stern talking to after he elbowed Igor in the head in front of Tuba AND Reavo out on the ice.

Goodrow flies the zone early and puck ends up in back of our net; know your role son!

    get and stay healthy.

  82. Pete Avatar
    Pete

this coaching staff clearly doesn’t have a lot of confidence in Barron at the moment and Hunt is not an everyday player, let alone a third liner. Kakko should go back to Panarin’s line when healthy, that’s where he looked his best offensively and that line actually had more sustained 5-5 success for a stretch there. Also let’s Goodrow go back to solidify the 3rd or 4th line.

At most they should be rotating Hunt/Reaves/McKegg as one winger on the 4th line, not playing all three of them plus Gauthier.

Unless we find a cheap young 2C, that’s going to be our big acquisition for the next few years, which means he has to be worth not only the price himself, but also the ensuing consequence of playing multiple cheap players elsewhere, including on his right side. Strome ain’t that player in my opinion

Hunt is an effective player but doesn’t score so he stinks. Reminds me of Fedetenko; very savvy on wall, will play the body, responsible in All 3 zones. There is a reason the coaching staff of one of the top teams in the league this year was willing to play him with their top player for long stretches this season.

Not ideal but good value for the cap hit and you need those when you have $36M+ of cap hit from 4 players next year.

lack of suitable options and an ability to make up for the weaknesses of Panarin/Strome was why he was there SN.

Nothing against Hunt, but he is a fringe NHLer at best. Not gonna see a Cup winner with that kind of player in anything but a limited 4th line role.

Panarin is one of the best passers in the league, he should be playing with a good shooter, which we don’t really have on this team outside of Mika and those two haven’t really gelled before.

Panarin looks ordinary out there. Goodrow doesn’t ever seem to take a shift off but he’s not out there to provide an offensive spark.
At this juncture of the season is where they’re really going to miss Blais.
Gauthier played his best game in a while he just isn’t a top 9 player.
